The first time (7 years ago) with Cabinetrends was wonderful. If anything was wrong, they were there to make sure we were happy. Not the same experience this time for this small job. The first "copy" was one inch too wide. (How do you mess up that badly?) The second attempt had the hinge mounting pockets placed with a slight vertical difference from the original. An attempt to make the doors level with each other by using the maximum vertical adjustment of the hinges resulted in a 1/8-inch difference. Not far enough to move the mounting hardware securely but not close enough to look good. Without measuring, Cabinetrends denied that it was different (The jig never changes!) while also claiming the factory couldn't exactly duplicate the pocket placement. (No one knows how to make a jig in the "custom" factory" ???) In the end they gave me three options: (1) split a $150 fee for a factory "consultant" to evaluate the problem or (2) find (that was my job) an independent cabinet guy who could fix the problem or (3) refund. Option (1) seemed useless since, by CTs own admission, the factory couldn't do anything about the problem anyway. Option (2) was not attractive because the special materials and processes (e.g. thin laminate surface) the factory uses likely wouldn't be available to the craftsman. We do want a match, after all. So we took the refund and the "copy" and now have mismatched undersink doors. 1/8-inch doesn't sound like much to you? If you can, throw your existing cabinet doors out of vertical alignment by 1/8-inch and see how you like it. YMMV, but once the big job is done don't count on service when the warranty expires - at least with the current Cabinetrends management.
Description of Work: Seven years ago we worked with Cabinetrends on a successful kitchen remodel. Big job for about $18000. Forward to the present: we needed one of the two undersink cabinet doors replaced because of water damage. I gave them the original to model.
