Completed several major renovations in other areas of our home and this was by far my best experience.  Contractor provided clear expectations up front and communicated consistently well during entire project.  There was a clear sense they were interested in ensuring we were satisfied with the final product.  We were given many opportunities to select options during the process which contributed to project success.  On-site project lead was excellent, very competent and conscientious.  Not gun shy for next project as I was in previous experiences with other contractors.

I did not use them; their quote was high and their materials were deficient from other quotes that I received. The representative that came out was friendly but was not what I call thorough. It was a roofing job and he did not go up on the roof to review what needed to be done; he basically just walked around the outside of my house and did not even see anything on the backside of my house. He was here for the estimate for, at the most, 15 minutes. I was not impressed and will not use them again in the future.

Response to Provider's Response:

I understand that roofing materials can be figured out by using basic math formulas, but where the process was lacking was that you cannot see the backside of my roof due to a hill.  As for the materials quoted, all companies that I contacted were asked for estimates of 3 tab and mid-range architectual shingles,  I requested the same (or like) materials for all 4 companies and your quote for the lower end 3 tab shingle was inline with what I ended up paying for the GAF Timberline with a lifetime warranty which was the basis of the deficient materials comment I made in the original post.  All estimates were treated the same and I did not let any of them know who the competition was or products being quoted. I will also state that none of them criticized any other company or product.
While I appreciate your defending your company, products, and sales person, I was trying to provide feedback to you about what I see as a flawed presentation.
Response from Total Home Improvements
"Although we are disappointed with the review left by this customer, I do take exception to some of his comments. We first saw him on December 29th after he contacted our office for a proposal on a new roof. Our salesman, Joe, who visited him has been with our company for many years and has 35 years experience in this type of business. Joe continually exceeds sales records even in a volatile economy. All of our salesmen are professional including how they dress, what they drive and in their actions. It is not uncommon for a salesman to not have a ladder as we quote various types of work that does not require one. When we are estimating roof replacements, our salesmen will visit the job, and unless the roof is complex, we may measure it from the ground. There are many ways to measure it from the ground that anyone in the business recognizes. One of the ways this is done is to measure the width of the roof and then either count the shingle tabs up the roof or look at the gables and estimate it's length. In almost 25 years in business we have never known this to be a problem and measurements have always been very accurate. If a roof is too complex to do this we would then have a roofer come out and measure the roof. This appointment was actually 30 minutes in length. Some companies come into your home and use lengthy sales strategies which may be very high pressure. We choose to look at a job, prepare a proposal and then re-meet with the Homeowner. This is the case with this customer which we re-met with on January 5th. The product which was shown was Owens Corning Duration. Owens Corning is a very old and respected manufacturer which has the highest sales of all manufacturers and has 64% of the market in custom homes above $500,000.00. Duration is Owens Cornings top shingle which has a lifetime warranty against winds of 135 mph. Although I understand other companies promoting the product they are selling, we believe it is unprofessional to talk negatively about other companies or products. We would love to have had the opportunity to work with the customer and hope that he has a successful transaction with the company he chooses."

They did excellent work.  Had some  trouble organizationally (wrong materials delivered, took longer then expected).  They addressed all issues promptly and postively.

Overall we were very happy with the quality of work performed by Total Home Improvement. We were especially pleased with the workman who were on site for the three months of the renovation. We felt that they knew their craft and were pleasant to be around. The subcontractors that were used had a long term relationship with THI which gave us peace of mind. We had a lock box on the house and work was performed while we were away and the professionalism and trust we had in the site manager made that situation easier.

Overall, as stated in my description of services performed, I was very pleased.

We had a final "Walk Through" today. I was happy with the finished product.  I would use Total Home Improvements, Inc again. Tonight we invited our neighbors to look at our 'new' bathroom. Their home is circa 1970 too and they need their bathroom/s renovated and I encouraged them to call Total Home Improvements, Inc.

The sales team was very responsive and very helpful.  The job took a little longer to complete than I would have liked, as I think they were working on multiple jobs at once.  Obviously some things need to take time, like tile needs to dry before you can grout it, etc.  THe one minor hiccup we had involved being told that the shower would be restored to working condition ASAP and I came home and it was not.  I called the Production Manager and he immediately sent the plumber back out to fix it same day.  Everything else went pretty smoothly.

The service from start to finish was professional and of high quality.  The process was lengthy because of number of subcontractors involved and the length of time the custom glass took to be ready to install.

Overall, we're quite pleased with the result. The addition did not take much over a week and a half over the time they estimated, even with days of rain to slow the work. The painters did an excellent job. The young man who did the trim work inside was exceptionally good as was the young man who did the deck.

The demolishing crew did not properly cover the toilet s sewage pipe. Tile and other debris got in there and resulted in a back-up/overflow of the new toilet. We informed Total Home Improvement of the problem. They came out and plunged the toilet, claiming it to be fixed. It worked for a couple of flushes, then it flowed over again. They came out again, plunged it and it worked again for a couple of flushes. The next day we had a party for 60 people, not only did the new toilet overflow, the other one did as well. Finally, the entire sewage line backed up resulting in the kitchen/dishwasher back up. After this event, they took the sewer line apart and low and behold found the old tile and construction debris in it, proof that it was their fault. They told us the backed up line had to do with our old sewage line or squirrels dropping nuts down the vent pipe, no apologies, no admitting that their crew had caused this. No apologies to speak of. They did reimburse us for the plumber we had to call to snake the line and for a snake that we rented in order to remedy the situation ourselves, but there was nothing said to reimburse us for the time we spent snaking the lines or cleaning up the mess, with 60 guests present! They also installed the bathtub incorrectly, now we are missing an inch in the width of the tub. We have glass doors installed, it is pretty tight in there. Their response was, oh well, let s move the doors over and that ll buy us another inch and you should have bought a bigger tub if this is too tight. It would not have been too tight if the tub was installed correctly. We chose a standard tub in order to keep the bathroom a certain size. BUT, they incorrectly measured and constructed a wall a good 5 inches further into our living room than was written in the plans. With that much extra space we could have installed a significantly bigger tub! The punch list left included several items that we decided to fix ourselves just so they wouldn t have to come back out. The job already had taken more than 4 weeks (the estimate was 3, max 4 weeks) and we had no confidence that they would fix the problem to our satisfaction. We are appalled at the indifference management was showing to our concerns and complaints. The sales guy did a great job selling, but we never saw him again until he came out wanting to take pictures of the bathroom. We would never, ever hire Total Home Improvement again.

They've had to come out 2 or 3 times. They had dented my siding, which they didn't replace. They did replace the work, they didn't do correctly, in the first place. They left me with windows, I was unable to really open or close properly.

They were wonderful to me. I really loved the new French door they put on my den room. It had lights on both sides of it and they did a good job putting it in. They cleaned up nice and hauled off the old stuff when they were done. I thought $300 was a steal for that door.

They did a terrific job of taking out the area that wasn t needed even while the carport was being built. The concrete that was added to make the drive the size we wanted blended great with the existing and hasn t showed any problems. We were very happy with the exact dimensions and quality of workmanship.
