Our A/C was running, but not able to keep the temperature in the house cool.  I called Buds on Wed. and spoke with a friendly receptionist who said they could have someone out to the house on Fri. and that someone would contact me on Thur. to establish a time for Fri.  Someone did call Thur. and established a time for Fri. between 9:00 am and 11:00 am.  The technician called about 15 min. before he arrived at 10:00 am on Fri.  He inspected the A/C system and determined that it was low on refridgerant and that the contacts and a capacitor were worn and needed to be replaced.  Total cost for repairs would be about $700.  I asked how much the contact and capacitor repair would cost and he gave me a specific price which I can't remember exactly, but was about $400.  Considering that the A/C was still running I assumed that the electrical system was still functional and that the capacitor and contact repair were not required immediately, but that they may go out in the near future.  I told the technician that I didn't want him to replace the capacitor or contacts, but would like the unit recharged with refridgerant (which cost $85 per lb.).  He gladly complied and did not push any further for the eletrical repairs.  The A/C was cooling the house again within a couple hours and is still going strong a week later.
The technician was friendly, knowledgeable and proficient.  I wish that he would have laid out the repair options a little more clearly.  For example, "I can charge your unit and not replace the capacitor or contacts and it will cool the house again, but it may shut down in the near future due to these worn out electical parts or I can charge the unit and repair the parts and the unit should be good for a while longer."  The way he presented the cost was as if the contacts and capacitor needed to be replaced immediately.  It wasn't until I asked the cost of the electrical reapair and chose not to do it that the option not to repair them became clear.  Otherwise I was very satisfied with the service.
Knowing that our A/C unit is on it's last legs bcause of its age, I plan to get a home warranty (through a home warranty company) that covers all the apliances in the house including the A/C (about $400-$500 per year).  In the event that the electrical parts go out the repair will be covered for the cost of the service call (about $75).  If the unit needs to be replaced it will only be the cost of the service call to do that as well.  This was my plan before Buds arrived and was part of my resoning for not paying for the electrical repairs.  The cost of those repairs would easily pay for a warranty on all my appliances including the A/C for a year.

It went well.  There was a delay in actual work since weather problems caused some delays not entirely the provider's fault.

Service was prompt, efficient and courteous.   We became Bud's customers after Hurricane Isabel in 2003.  They inspect annually and have repaired flood damage three times.   We rely on Bud's for our heating and air conditioning service.

The last time when the technician came out I asked him about getting a new a/c and heater.  He had it set up immediately.  The consultant came out and he told us all the options they had to look affordable and work out economically for the house.  I will use them again in the future.

Our A/C went out late one evening, we called a few other places, but everyone was either booked or not taking anymore service calls for the evening.  Bud's sent someone out within a hour.  He was able to get our unit running again in a very short time.  He also told us that if we invested in a new system, that the almost $250 service call would be credited back to us through Bud's.

We decided to replace our aging 15+ year old system with a new one.

The work was accomplished within about 2 weeks from the contract signing, and installed in one day.  We have been very happy with the system, the CLEAN ducts and all of the technicians that have been to the house to take care of our work contract.

Everyone was very careful to minimize any dirt coming in to the house, and to be sure we knew everything that was going on with the work.  Our system has been humming along nicely since it was installed.

We picked them because after doing some research, they seemed to be the most qualified for the job.  They were very knowledgable and offered the best price.  They seemed to have a good service record.  We went to their place of business and they showed us around their plant and over the duration of the project I felt secure and that I was going to get the best deal I could get financially.  I also got the impression that I could count on them even after the project was finished.

The technician determined that the freon level was low.  He started to add freon, but found the leak within three minutes.  He then determined that the indoor coil was bad.  He showed me where the leak was so that I would understand the problem.  He ordered a new coil, and it was ready to be installed within three days.  Upon return the new unit was installed quickly.  The technician was clean and courteous during his work.

The problem I had during this installation was that the manufacturer did not honor the warrantee.  Keven took my problem to the manufacturer, and after going above and beyond the call of duty, was able to get the manufacturer to agree to honor the warrantee.

Overall, they were very knowledgeable and interested in ensuring I was educated in the repair process.  I would recommend them to my family.

It was fine and reasonable. The man was very professional, helpful and answered all my questions. He was prompt and he followed up. He did a good job. The price and the arrangement that he proposed was not as good as the others. The estimate was around $10000 and that included a rebate from Costco service groups, the potential rebate that had from Costco. The original proposal was close to $11000. He was very responsive. I would consider getting another quote from him.

Paid for service call and service check. Discontinued service due to bad feeling. Their main goal was to sell AC units not fix them.
Response from Buds Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning

"I am posting this response after reviewing all documentation involving a service call completed almost two years ago. On April 27th 2009 we visited this client for an afterhours service call complaining of no air conditioning. The service technician found the system void of refrigerant and advised that a system leak search be performed to pinpoint the leak, which the client agreed to and scheduled for the next day. The leak search discovered a repairable leak and the client was offered several OPTIONS to repair, and given that the system was at the upper end of its life expectancy for that type and model heat pump, a replacement was also recommended. We never gave the client a proposal for a new system and there were no options offered that totaled anywhere near the $1200 that was noted in this posting. After applying the appropriate discounts from the prior service the client would have paid $455 for the preferred repair which would have replaced the leaking component. The “next” company was able to use our professional diagnosis to repair the unit and I am glad that that the repair has “held up” for the client for two years now. We have a satisfaction guaranteed policy here at Bud’s and would have been more than happy to review any complaint or grievance and refunded the invoice amount if we did not perform adequately or properly. I have never received a phone call or any other communication on this matter from the client, until this posting popped up almost two years later. Bud’s Heating & Air Conditioning has been a valued and well recognized member of our business community for over 40 years with an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. Kevin Kramer was very knowledgeable and helpful - really knew his products. Bud's sent a team of 5 on install day as promised and was in and out in under 6 hours as promised. Pleasure to work with, highly recommended.

I can't say anything bad about them. Everything was really good. The guys were in uniform, and they showed up on time. They had little booties on their shoes, so they didn't track in dirt. They were clean, nice, and respectful. I will definitely keep using them for my twice-a-year service.

i had trouble with the a/c to begin with. it ended up being a colony of ants in the wires. so to cover the charge for that service and to save money, buds started me on their twice a year maintance package. they come out in the spring to check your a/c and then again in the fall to check your heating unit. also with the package you get 20% off all other services thru out the year. the service tecs are all dog friendly which was good since i have two big dogs. i've had several tecs to my house from sept. 2010 to dec 2010 for several different reasons, and each time they didn't try and have me pay an arm and leg. i ended up needing a part for my heating unit and it needed to be ordered. so they put in a temp part that was in the truck so we didn't go without heat. and the part didn't take forever to come in, just about 6 days later. i would recommend buds to everyone.

On Wednesday afternoon, I called around 3:30 p.m. because Bud's had not called me. They said the part had not come in, but it would probably be in Thursday. On Thursday, I again called at 3:30, after they get their afternoon deliveries, and was told again that it was not in and it would be in on Friday. When I called Friday at 1:30, I was told it was not in and they would check on it. I received a call back about 15 minutes later and was told the part had not shipped out yet, was being shipped out from Iowa and that it was being shipped by ground delivery and would not be in until next week. After 6 days of no heat in freezing conditions day and night and being lied to by the customer service rep, I expressed my displeasure in the strongest of terms. And apparently the customer service representative, Christy, decided to put the phone down and walk away until I was finished. I figured this when she did not respond to me and also heard numerous voices in the background that I did not hear before. After she picked the phone back up,Christy asked me if I realized this was not Bud's issue, but with Lennox. However, as I was told on Tuesday and every day thereafter that the part was inbound and it in fact was not, the problem may be partially with Lennox, but also with the unprofessionalism displayed by this company. The fact that there are sub-freezing temperatures in this area and nothing special is being done to help with my situation is appalling. The fact that I was basically lied to by both the service man that came out and by Christy, the customer service rep, for 4 days, led me to cancel my service contract with this company, try to find someone else to service my system and also write this review.

This was the winter visit on a preventive maintenance plan, which is what the invoice was for. Two professional employees reported and performed cleaning and inspection of 26 year old gas furnace. At the start of the job I had mention a possible problem and expected to pay extra to ensure that the issue was resolved. The technicians located the problem and instead of replacing the part adding to the bill, they work their magic made a simple adjustment and the system has been running great ever since. It?s nice to be able to rely on a good honest company with professional employees.

A little pricey, yet very prompt. Had one small issue following installation. The came right out to fix it. Installation helped get better service 3 years later when we had a small electrical problem with the AC on a 100 degree day.

Immediate response when we called for help. Our HVAC unit was failing during the hottest week we have experienced here in 20 years. The evaluation team was professional and thorough, on time, and easy to understand. They explained to me in detail what was wrong, and what could be done to fix it, the alternatives I had, and the costs involved. My correspondence with the Manager of the company to set up an installation was courteous and friendly. We set up an installation date for the new machine as soon as their schedule would allow. In the meantime, the freon leaked out of our old unit, and the temperature was approaching 100 degrees outside. The Manager dispatched a technician to temporarily recharge our old unit at no charge to us, to keep us going until the new unit could be installed. Because we are on a fixed income, the company included the first years maintenance on both of our units at no charge. I highly recommend Bud's Heating and Air Conditioning for their excellent customer service and response.

Upstairs unit was broken and original repair company, D.C. Ramsey, was useless. Downstairs unit could not keep up with load. After waitngin 3 weeks for Ramsey to effect repairs, called Bud's HVAC to at least look at downstairs unit. They sent technician out that afternoon. He diagnosed problem with both units as was able to get the downstairs unit working by adding freon. Upstairs unit required repair part we were still waiting on other company to deliver. The Technician from Bud's was very professional and thorough.

We recently had it serviced. The air flow was not where it needed to be for the air conditioner. There was only a nominal service fee charged. They had to run maintenance on it to find out what was wrong. There was nothing wrong with the unit per se. They were a bit pricey.
