I don't remember the price, but it was too high. My advice to others is to hire somebody else. To get an A they could have improved their prices and their punctuality; they could have been a little sooner.

Following a great start it went down hill rapidly. Technician never tested the lines, complained about not being able to access the air handler upstairs in the attic, and stated the thermostat we had was likely not compatible with the system in use. Thermostat has been in operation for 4 years with no problems on heat/cool cycle. At no point did technician verify operation or check system pressure levels or any serious diagnosis. I ended up paying the known service charge for someone to tell me I needed a new system, but with no explanation on what was wrong with my existing system. After a project this summer I contacted Bud's for an estimate to replace my upstairs system since I knew I was increasing the square footage. It appears this was all Bud's was interested in for this call. I would not recommend the technician and based on the performance will not sue them for my replacement project.
Description of Work: Our upstairs heating stopped functioning correctly. Requested a technician. Fast response, showed up same day and at the time scheduled.

We have a contract with them. We've had the contract for years. We've been using them for years and every time we have a problem they send someone right out. They put on these slippers over their shoes like a surgical thing, of course they have the uniforms too and all that.

They had done a full rebate on our set. They sent out two crews, one with a large truck and one with a small truck. They were in and out of here in about four hours completely redoing. The cost was something over $10,000, but that is the high seal rating AC and 98% efficient furnace. It was all the whistles and bells. There was an air cleaner put on with it. It was a big job. They are always good to work with.
Description of Work: I used Buds for heating and AC. They replaced the downstairs heating and air conditioning system.

They are great. The cost of service is $294 a year. That is for two heating and two air conditioning units serviced twice a year. In the summer, they do the air conditioning stuff and in the start of the winter, they do the heating out. It is kind of cheap insurance, but it is better to do the preventative maintenance than the reactive maintenance. I have been with them for 15 years.

Bud's arrived early. Had two crews. They put red plastic down on our stairs, carpet and wood floor. They removed old heat pump air handler from the 3rd floor attic. Tapped up vents connections to ensure no leakage of air to spaces other than where it was supposed to go. They installed the new Tam7 air handler in the 3rd floor. They removed the old gas pack and installed the new one. When I ask a question they offered good information on the scope of the job, amount of time it would take and kept us informed about progress. The names of the gents on the 2 crews - Drew, Marcus, Stephen and Patrick. These guys worked tirelessly to get the job done in one day. Important comment I would like to make. We purchased a XL15i Heat pump from Buds in the summer of 2014. We had a few issues that I would say were the fault of the equipment and not the installation. Once I brought it to the attention of Buds they took care of the issues and problems. To me, its not so important how a company does when things go right rather what you really want to know is how a company will perform and stand behind their product and work when something goes wrong. Without a doubt Bud's is a company that stands behind it people, products and takes care of its customers. If you need a Heating and A/C company that knows what they are doing, stands behind its people and the product they sell then you will want to do business with Buds. The sales person that we purchased all our systems from was Chris Johnson. He is well informed about the products he sells, he is detailed oriented and provides good technical advice on what system options would work for us and the pros and cons of the various systems. If I were you I would ask for Chris Johnson. Overall we found Buds to be the best value. Buds offered a fair price. Not the lowest but when I thought about doing business with a company that stands behind the products its sells and a company that continues to invest in its future it was an easy decision to select Buds.

Great. All work completed as expected. I maintained constant contact with the estimator, and they always called when they were on the way, so I didn't waste time waiting at home when I didn't need to. The workers very carefully explained what they were doing, and solicited my input when there was possibly a change to the original plan. It took them two days to complete (they lost some time driving to Larchmont all the way from the Peninsula), but it was worth it. Everyone I interacted with from initial sales to install manager, to install scheduler, workers and billing department were very friendly. They were much more concerned about doing a quality job than being in a rush to get the payment from me. I only had two small issues (caulk on the rug & and a misaligned crawl space door) and they were both corrected graciously when the install manager came out to my house and personally took care of both. I definitely plan to use this company again, both to replace my old HVAC system and to start a monthly service contract.
Description of Work: Replaced all ducting under in crawl space(flex duct) with hard duct, and replaced runs to all air registers, as well as main duct from air handler to crawl space. Added on additional air supply to utility room.

This is the 4th time in the past year we've had to call Bud's to come back to repair a system they recommended to us. We even purchased the maintenance agreement which we thought would help defer costs and provide preventative maintenance. THis has not been the case. Each time has been something different and all the maintenance agreement did was reduce the already expense visit by $50. I will say the technicians are always on time and very respectful but also always apologetic. I have already shared my experiences with Bud's with the Kiln Creek Homeowners Association and our church. Bottomline is there are much better and less expensive heating and air companies in the area to put up with unreliable systems and repairs. .
Description of Work: Tighten a bolt that came loose and released all the refron. This was 10 April 2015 and today, 4 May 2015, we've had to call them again because the air conditioner is not working.

Conducted a routine inspection under a maintenance contract. Discovered a dusty coil and blower motor in the system. The options are dismount the coil and clean or, according to the Bud's representative, install a UV lamp that will "burn" off any dirt. I know that UV lamps are used to disinfect air systems (under rare circumstances where there is a mold problem) but this was the first time I had heard that it was a potential coil cleaner. So, what the heck, I had it installed. I also had the distinct impression that the primary purpose of the visit was to sell air cleaners. My suspicions were aroused when the technician refused to give me a part number for the device saying it would be on the invoice - which it wasn't. When he wasn't looking I grabbed the box which has the desceription. After purchasing the UV lamp to clean the coil, I called the manufacturer. According to the manufacturer the device does not clean a dirty coil from dirt only biological, In fact where it was installed it would impair the efficiency of the UV lamp. The technician also did not know that modern high efficiency systems have a primary and secondary coil and it is usually the secondary that can get clogged. Thus placing a questionable UV lamp with the primary would not clean (or "burn") off any dirt. Buds apologized for the misunderstanding and agreed to clean the forward coil at no cost. The total cost for a UV lamp and a required repair was $1100 - note that the first technician indicated that it would cost almost $2200 for basically 3 hours of labor and the UV lamp - the hourly rate for a Wall Street lawyer. After the second visit the Buds technician delared victory and left. I originally blasted them in a review for the misrepresentations of the original technician; when Buds agreed to make amends, I rewrote my recommendation providing a positive report based on the assumption that I would be provided with a working system. Next morning, as the temperature was dropping due to an approaching storm, I turned on the system and - NOTHING. Three observations basd on this experience: 1. Don't buy a service contract unless you want a semiannual pitch for air cleaners. 2. If you are told an expensive repair is required, smile, open the door, release the dogs, and get a second opinion. 3. If the technician claims the repair is complete, have him actually turn the system on - he might get suprised. 4. Lastly if you are told an expensive part is required, get the part number and call the manufacturer - you might find the sales pitch was overly optimistic. .
Description of Work: Inspected home AC/Heating system. Performed install of UV lamp; identified potential additional repairs. Cleaned the coils. Disabled the system so that it wouldn't work.

We have waited since the June, 2014 installation of our H.V.A.C. unit to write this review. The removal of the 7 year old builders unit and installation of the new system by BUDS went with perfection. The crews were neat, clean and extremely professional. It is a major difference with the new system verses the original system. The house for the first time since we purchased it four years ago has been cool in the summer, and warm in the winter. Now for the best news regarding the unit that offers the best manufactures warrantee. The energy efficiency is remarkable. What a difference in energy consumption between the two units. We have been pleased with the service we received prior to the installation from BUDS and will continue to do to be a most satisfied customer.

We gave Bud's representative a list of our requirements (specs). These included providing a detailed cost breakdown of each item of equipment proposed, as well as cost of labor, material, & other fees. I explained that we required this to enable us to compare systems based on a level playing field - i.e. so we would not be comparing apples to oranges. Their representative seemed to balk at this requirement but stopped short of outright refusing (as some other dealers have done). He started to work up a proposal in his vehicle but then stated that it might be better if he could take the time to address all of our requirements. He promised to get back to us with a proposal within a day or so. We have never heard back from Bud's, nor did we follow up! As a side note, this industry seems to be a very tight-knit and very CLOSED business. Another firm - a major HVAC supplier on the south side - flatly told us that Trane would NOT allow them to provide cost information for their units or their franchise/license as a Trane dealer would be revoked. If this is true, then it supports a non-competitive, high-pressure business industry that tends to prey on vulnerable customers at their worst time of need (heat of summer or freezing cold); then price gouge. NOTE: Bud's did NOT claim this but, then again, they did promise us a proposal and we never got one. I presume that it's because one of our requirements was to have the detailed cost breakdown. I would have thought a reputable firm would have given us the courtesy of a response (phone call?) to say they wouldn't be able to bid on our project.

We contacted Bud's after deciding to install a new gas fireplace. I wanted to do if myself, but my wife insisted that we should rely on the Pro's just to be safe! Our Fireplace salesman had already came out and looked at the job and had indicated that it was a trivial matter of removing a small portion of the existing pipe, adding a fitting and flexible yellow gas-line. I relayed this information to the Scheduler @ Bud's, who was courteous and polite, and she had a guy scheduled to come out in a day or so. Bud's initially sent out two young men who quickly sized up the job, went to get supplies, and had it done in very short order. Unfortunately, when the inspector came out, it turned out to be the wrong kind of flexible hose and I failed the inspection. I relayed this information to Bud's and they had their expert out the next day. Apparently the first two guys did not properly a**** the job, and the expert removed and replaced the job all with hard-piping at their own expense. The inspector came out again and, for whatever reason, this time the system was not pressurized, or had leaked, but we failed again. Bud's came out again and re-pressurized, and after a some logistical problems, we finally passed. This is a rather truncated version of the story, however, through all of this hassle (and it was a lot of hassle) Bud's personnel, from the plumber, to the receptionist/scheduler, to the general manager, all of them were extremely courteous and maintained their professionalism. Furthermore, upon hearing of the repeated troubles, Bud's elected to fully refund our cost of the job even though I am sure the overall cost was much more than the original $236. Despite having multiple things go awry, these guys stuck with it, got it done, and made it right. I am relatively certain that these guys get it right 99.99% of the time, and when it doesn't you can depend on them to finish the job correctly, no matter what.

They were very quick to respond, come out, and check the air conditioner. They explained to my son-in-law exactly what was wrong with it and then they gave us a very detailed description and helped us make a decision on what new unit to purchase. They were wonderful; they first tried to fix it and if it was not going to fix, then we knew we had to do a whole new air conditioner and that is what we ended up doing. They also went over to their old house and repaired, for no charge, the air conditioner. They are just a nice bunch of folks, they really are. I feel very comfortable when they tell me something needs to be done; that they are not just trying to make money. It took us a long time to figure out but we found a unit that was going to work great for them and they are very happy with it. We were going to have to do it anyway and we were really glad we got this company to do it. Their price was not high and not low; it was right where we thought it would be. They are about to come out again tomorrow because my air conditioner just died.
