We picked them because after doing some research, they seemed to be the most qualified for the job. They were very knowledgable and offered the best price. They seemed to have a good service record. We went to their place of business and they showed us around their plant and over the duration of the project I felt secure and that I was going to get the best deal I could get financially. I also got the impression that I could count on them even after the project was finished.
Description of Work: They installed a new heating and air-conditioning system.

The technician determined that the freon level was low. He started to add freon, but found the leak within three minutes. He then determined that the indoor coil was bad. He showed me where the leak was so that I would understand the problem. He ordered a new coil, and it was ready to be installed within three days. Upon return the new unit was installed quickly. The technician was clean and courteous during his work. The problem I had during this installation was that the manufacturer did not honor the warrantee. Keven took my problem to the manufacturer, and after going above and beyond the call of duty, was able to get the manufacturer to agree to honor the warrantee. Overall, they were very knowledgeable and interested in ensuring I was educated in the repair process. I would recommend them to my family.
Description of Work: The heat pump was not putting out hot air. A leak check was performed to determine what the problem was. It was determined that the inside coil was bad, so one was ordered. On the return visit, the new coil was installed.

It was fine and reasonable. The man was very professional, helpful and answered all my questions. He was prompt and he followed up. He did a good job. The price and the arrangement that he proposed was not as good as the others. The estimate was around $10000 and that included a rebate from Costco service groups, the potential rebate that had from Costco. The original proposal was close to $11000. He was very responsive. I would consider getting another quote from him.

Paid for service call and service check. Discontinued service due to bad feeling. Their main goal was to sell AC units not fix them.
Description of Work: Freon was out on one unit at our 9 yr old house. We called Bud's. They charged for a service call, then said we needed new Air Condition unit. To do service check and find out what our AC needed, it was another charge. Bud's tech said to fix our unit it would be $1200 plus. They said we could apply the service call and initial work price toward a new unit. We didn't have any other work done since we had a bad feeling about Bud's Co. The next co. said we didn't need a new unit, just freon and fix a pipe. Cost from other Co., $350 to add freon and fix pipe. Saving, Approx $6,000. We're still going strong after two summers. Don't call Buds.

Response from Buds Plumbing Heating & Air Conditioning
I am posting this response after reviewing all documentation involving a service call completed almost two years ago. On April 27th 2009 we visited this client for an afterhours service call complaining of no air conditioning. The service technician found the system void of refrigerant and advised that a system leak search be performed to pinpoint the leak, which the client agreed to and scheduled for the next day. The leak search discovered a repairable leak and the client was offered several OPTIONS to repair, and given that the system was at the upper end of its life expectancy for that type and model heat pump, a replacement was also recommended. We never gave the client a proposal for a new system and there were no options offered that totaled anywhere near the $1200 that was noted in this posting. After applying the appropriate discounts from the prior service the client would have paid $455 for the preferred repair which would have replaced the leaking component. The “next” company was able to use our professional diagnosis to repair the unit and I am glad that that the repair has “held up” for the client for two years now. We have a satisfaction guaranteed policy here at Bud’s and would have been more than happy to review any complaint or grievance and refunded the invoice amount if we did not perform adequately or properly. I have never received a phone call or any other communication on this matter from the client, until this posting popped up almost two years later. Bud’s Heating & Air Conditioning has been a valued and well recognized member of our business community for over 40 years with an A+ rating with the Better Business Bureau. I can't say anything bad about them. Everything was really good. The guys were in uniform, and they showed up on time. They had little booties on their shoes, so they didn't track in dirt. They were clean, nice, and respectful. I will definitely keep using them for my twice-a-year service.

i had trouble with the a/c to begin with. it ended up being a colony of ants in the wires. so to cover the charge for that service and to save money, buds started me on their twice a year maintance package. they come out in the spring to check your a/c and then again in the fall to check your heating unit. also with the package you get 20% off all other services thru out the year. the service tecs are all dog friendly which was good since i have two big dogs. i've had several tecs to my house from sept. 2010 to dec 2010 for several different reasons, and each time they didn't try and have me pay an arm and leg. i ended up needing a part for my heating unit and it needed to be ordered. so they put in a temp part that was in the truck so we didn't go without heat. and the part didn't take forever to come in, just about 6 days later. i would recommend buds to everyone.

On Wednesday afternoon, I called around 3:30 p.m. because Bud's had not called me. They said the part had not come in, but it would probably be in Thursday. On Thursday, I again called at 3:30, after they get their afternoon deliveries, and was told again that it was not in and it would be in on Friday. When I called Friday at 1:30, I was told it was not in and they would check on it. I received a call back about 15 minutes later and was told the part had not shipped out yet, was being shipped out from Iowa and that it was being shipped by ground delivery and would not be in until next week. After 6 days of no heat in freezing conditions day and night and being lied to by the customer service rep, I expressed my displeasure in the strongest of terms. And apparently the customer service representative, Christy, decided to put the phone down and walk away until I was finished. I figured this when she did not respond to me and also heard numerous voices in the background that I did not hear before. After she picked the phone back up,Christy asked me if I realized this was not Bud's issue, but with Lennox. However, as I was told on Tuesday and every day thereafter that the part was inbound and it in fact was not, the problem may be partially with Lennox, but also with the unprofessionalism displayed by this company. The fact that there are sub-freezing temperatures in this area and nothing special is being done to help with my situation is appalling. The fact that I was basically lied to by both the service man that came out and by Christy, the customer service rep, for 4 days, led me to cancel my service contract with this company, try to find someone else to service my system and also write this review.
Description of Work: Called on Monday because heater was not coming on and Bud's was supposed to be the top Lennox provider in the area. Service man came out Tuesday, on time, and checked the system. He told me that there was a bad circuit board and it would have to be replaced. He also said the board was under warranty and the only cost would be for the service call. He said the part would probably be over nighted and would be delivered Wednesday. He also informed me about their Heater and AC service and recommended I sign up. I did. So far so good.

This was the winter visit on a preventive maintenance plan, which is what the invoice was for. Two professional employees reported and performed cleaning and inspection of 26 year old gas furnace. At the start of the job I had mention a possible problem and expected to pay extra to ensure that the issue was resolved. The technicians located the problem and instead of replacing the part adding to the bill, they work their magic made a simple adjustment and the system has been running great ever since. It?s nice to be able to rely on a good honest company with professional employees.

Upstairs unit was broken and original repair company, D.C. Ramsey, was useless. Downstairs unit could not keep up with load. After waitngin 3 weeks for Ramsey to effect repairs, called Bud's HVAC to at least look at downstairs unit. They sent technician out that afternoon. He diagnosed problem with both units as was able to get the downstairs unit working by adding freon. Upstairs unit required repair part we were still waiting on other company to deliver. The Technician from Bud's was very professional and thorough.

We recently had it serviced. The air flow was not where it needed to be for the air conditioner. There was only a nominal service fee charged. They had to run maintenance on it to find out what was wrong. There was nothing wrong with the unit per se. They were a bit pricey.

In August of 2007, I had an air conditioning unit that was about 20 years old, and wasn't even able to get recharged anymore. Bud's came out the day I called, and installed a new unit within a week. They convinced me that the Lennox unit I was buying was of superior quality to the alternative brands. Now, in April of 2010, less than 3 years later, I'm getting charged for them to come out and fix the supposedly superior Lennox unit. I feel like I was duped into spending more than twice as much as was necessary. Save yourself the money and find another company to install an A/C unit for under $3K. The service and response time was top notch, but it's not worth the added expense.

We called them for an estimate to replace our old furnace. The furnace was still working so we weren't in a crisis situation. We had time to get estimates and think about things. We called 3 other companies for estimates. Bud's was not the cheapest, but we had confidence in their Lennox products and NATE certified installers. The salesman, Kevin, gave us estimates on several options, including gas furnace alone, gas furnace and central air, or dual fuel (gas furnace and heat pump). We liked the dual fuel option. In climates with moderate winter such as Virginia's, heat pump is efficient most of the time but not below 35 or 40 degrees F. The high-end programmable digital thermostat can be programmed to heat by heat pump when the outdoor temp is 40 degrees or warmer, and by gas furnace when the outdoor temp is below 40 degrees. (Or you can have it programmed for a lower or higher temp switch-over point if you choose.) We liked the dual fuel idea, as it takes advantage of the best of both fuel options and therefore is environment friendly as well as conserving fuel COSTS. In summer, the heat pump serves as your central air conditioning. The salesman gave us estimates for systems with 2 energy efficiency levels. The top level was several thousand more expensive than the next level and would save more on gas heating, but the heat pump was the same for the top level and the next level. The salesman suggested the top level of energy efficiency was not as cost effective in our area because in a normal Virginia winter we wouldn't need to use the gas furnace much. We took a few days to make a decision, but once we made up our minds, Bud's scheduled us within 2 or 3 days. The work was completed inside of a day by Patrick, Calvin and Gilbert; the installers were prompt and courteous and answered all my questions respectfully; they covered their feet with cloth booties when they came in the house; they cleaned up the work areas when they were done; they gave me a lesson on using the programmable thermostat before they left. The salesman told us they have technicians on call 24 hours every day of the year, and the company's aim is to respond to a "no-heat" call within a half hour. They also offer an optional annual maintenance package. We gave this company a B for responsiveness because there was some difficulty reaching our salesman. The office told us he was out for a day or maybe it was a couple half days with a health issue. I suspect that had we called a week earlier or a week later, the responsiveness rating probably would have been an A. We rated the quality A, but the unit is brand new. At this point we can only assume the system components will perform as anticipated for a period of some years.
Description of Work: Removed old gas furnace and central air system and installed new "dual fuel" system, consisting of new Lennox gas furnace and new Lennox heat pump. Also new high-end programmable digital thermostat. And we opted to add a high-quality air filtration system. The filter removes 95% of particles down to .3 micron and 90% of microorganisms down to .01 micron, and it needs to be changed only once a year. Amazing. And they hauled away the old equipment.

We had first contacted another company at the recommendation of a friend immediately upon returning from our vacation. They promised they'd be out the next morning. We waited through the early afternoon and they hadn't showed up. We called to ask where they were and they said that they simply hadn't gotten around to us. No phone call, nothing! Again, they promised to come the next day, and again, they stood us up. We decided to sign up on Angie's List with the expectation that we could find a more trustworthy company. It was the best investment we could have made! Not only was Bud's able to fit us in the next morning, they made sure to follow up with us first thing to confirm the appointment and they showed up on time. The technicians were nothing but professional and polite, even to our dog Parker, which one of the technicians made a special point to befriend. I had to leave, so my Partner stayed behind to finish with the appointment. I was worried that they'd treat her differently without me around (an experience we had with another company for our floors), but when I returned she said they spoke to her with the utmost respect, clearly explaining the details of the issues and our options, as well as answering all of her questions. When I returned home, we had a complete understanding of our options and Bud's even called us the next day to follow up on arranging an appointment with their sales team. Speaking to the office representative reassured us that they were happy to work with us to find something that would fit in our budget, including financing. Although we ended up putting everything on our credit card, we appreciated how proactive they were. A week later, our new A/C unit arrived, with Bud's contacting us a couple times in the interim to keep us updated and to ensure that we scheduled a convenient time for the installation, which would take about half the day. The service crew arrived promptly in Monday morning. The crew was exceptionally polite and patient with our multitude of questions. When the work was *finally* completed, they took extra time to explain the warranty and service contract options, as well as installed a free digital thermostat, which wasn't on the original work order. It was clear they weren't leaving until we were completely satisfied. In summary, we were totally.
Description of Work: Initially came to inspect leak in A/C unit after we returned from vacation with a 1/2 of ice covering both sides of the coils and water dripping onto the floor. Technicians said that they could recharge the freon, but that the type of freon used was to be phased out within the year. The coils had corroded to a point that, even if repaired, would likely leak again. Plus, they were surprised our unit had lasted so long - it was 15 years old! They gave us the option of 1) repairing the coil assembly itself, 2) replacing the entire indoor and outdoor units, or 3) replacing just the inside unit. With these options, they suggested we replace the internal unit since it would only continue to deteriorate. The outdoor unit would be fine.

My heat went out and it was 20 degrees outside. Because of this I didn't get to compare around for prices. When I contacted them they didn't have the unit I wanted, so I had to upgrade to a higher item. The month after they replaced it, my heating bill was very high. They came back out to check to make sure everything was working properly, and it was. Since then my heating bill has gone down and is now more reasonable. Before using them again I would compare with other providers.

The technician arrived on time, was clean, friendly and explained the work he performed in terms I could understand. The price was very fair, they went over my equipment top to bottom and were very thorough. What I was most impressed with was that when the young man came to my door, he had my newspaper in his hand (he had picked it up off the driveway for me), which I thought was great. When he was ready to leave, he noticed that the trash truck had just come and he offered to bring my trash can back up to the house. These seem like little things, but this type of customer service just isn't seen anymore these days. BRAVO, Bud's!!! I have already told several of my neighbors about your company.
