***UPDATE***
I am still angry about the whole situation that I didn't get what I paid for. And now I have to continue to spend to get the doors fixed properly. This is why I joined Angies List!
"Member, I've spent the last 25 years of my life watching my Dad, Mark Mitchell, build our company to what it is today. We tried everything in our power to get the job done and make sure you were satisfied. It's a shame that you've resorted to defamation simply because you are having an off day. On that note, here is the email that our President, Mark Mitchell, sent to you on March 28th via email and USPS. From: Mark Mitchell Sent: Wednesday, March 28, 2012 1:17 PM To: Member Subject: RE: Door proposal Member, As the owner of the company I regret that you are upset. As for the moving of the washer, it was assumed that the washer would need to be slightly scooted over to allow for the removal of the interior trim and the insert of the interior split jamb and casing. We feel that we could do that and scoot it back after installation without causing any problem. I fully understand that is unacceptable to you. We have a second option. We can install the doors without installing the back half split jamb and have the new door installed just fine, this can be done without moving the appliances. I understand that this was offered to you as an option which you declined. Patrick and Mike have worked on getting the door to the warehouse where we prepainted the door and drilled for the lockset. They wanted to install the door for you and unfortunately you could not become comfortable allowing the door to be installed. The door is at our shop and we are willing to load the door back up on the truck and install the hinge side split jamb with doors and leave off the portion inside the utility room leaving the interior of the room undisturbed. Patrick was able to repair your existing bifold doors into operable condition. My current understanding is that you do not wish to continue the job further. If that is the case we can deliver your door to you as you have paid for it. Unfortunately we have no use for the door and cannot offer you any financial consideration. Please understand that it is our intention to do all that we possibly can to deliver our customers high quality service and high value products. Please let me know if you want the door install rescheduled less the interior split jamb portion or if you just want your door delivered to your home. I hope you realize that we are here to help you the best way possible. Mark Mitchell, President"
"Member, Repair business is an important part of the services we offer and we take as much pride in providing reliable repair services as we do any full project installations. I am so glad you are satisfied and hope that we get the opportunity to work together again."
"Your project turned out beautifully and we are so glad you are pleased! We incorporate every component possible into the original price and convey to the client that the only charges that may arise are from minimal wood replacement. I know it's never easy to have to absorb additional costs but I hope that we were able to you informed throughout the process and that in the end you found it reasonable. Pleas keep us in mind for future projects!"
"Member, It's great to hear that the repair crew provided you with the level of service and satisfaction we strive for at Consumer Construction. We greatly appreciate your business and your review, so thank you again!"
"Member, I am so glad you were able to find value in Angie's List service! Hopefully, we can become your trusted contractor for future projects as well, we love establishing long-term relationships with our customers. If this repair gives you any problems within the next year, don't forget that it is under warranty and we will be glad to come back out to address the issue free of charge."
The salesman called to ensure I was satisfied with the results and said to call if I noticed any imperfections in the future and they would be here to correct them. So on top of the new roof they delivered piece of mind. The following week I received my invoice with a request to fill out a survey, which I gladly did, and a nice letter from the President of the company thanking me for my business.
Consumer Construction obviously cares about the customer and the services they deliver.
Due to the experience with the roof I chose them to replace a bay window as well. The same professionalism was displayed by the installation team. I am thoroughly satisfied with the price and delivery of the new bay window.
You cannot go wrong using this company! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THEM!
"Member, Your review really means a lot to our company and I have placed a copy of it in every employee's box. We take our feedback from customers, both positive and negative, very seriously and have thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated your review. I hope we have the opportunity to work together again in the future and just know that we are available to answer questions or provide service to your project at just a phone call away. Thanks again, Mark E, Mitchell President, Owner"
"Member, We are committed to getting every job to 100% and ensuring that our customers are wholly satisfied. I am so glad we were able to make all of the necessary adjustments and that now you can reap the benefits of your completed roof and brand new door! As for the price, I hope you can measure the value of the project in regards to your overall satisfaction. We will never be the cheapest option, nor is that our goal, but we strive to have our customers see the value of the project in the finished results. Thanks again for the review and your valuable input!"
"Member, Your project came out beautifully and we are so glad you agree. The beauty of a home is all in the details and the finishing work you did to improve the look of your home's exterior has really made a difference. Thank you for your review and we look forward to working with you again in the future!"
"Member, You were a pleasure to work with and we truly enjoyed your remodeling project. Your home looks beautiful and I hope you are able to now enjoy the benefits of your brand new windows and siding. We look forward to working with you again soon!"
Finally in March/April we decided to go ahead and get the roof replaced. Consumer Construction honored the quote they had given me in January for the work. Mark was very helpful as I chose a roof color. I chose one color and a week later decided to go with a different color, they were very accommodating about the change. After the roof was replaced and the attic fan installed, we were hearing a clunky noise from the fan. A technician was able to come out within a day or two to adjust the fan. Overall, I was happy with Consumer Construction and would consider them if I need other outside work done.
"Member, Thank you for your review. We are so glad you are pleased with the final results and that we were able to meet your expectations. We have enjoyed being able to work with you over the span of several projects and hope we will have more opportunities to work together in the future. Your new roof should help reduce the risk of ice dams in the future and will certainly protect you from these springtime showers! Thank you again for your business and review!"
"Member, I'm so glad we were able to complete your job in a timely and effective manner. If you have any problems or need any additional work, please give us a call. Thanks for taking the time to write a review and thank you again for your business!"
After the men left our home I sat right down to write the company a note.
Here is the note I have emailed to the company tonight.
Dear Mr. Mitchell and Consumer Construction Crew,
It is absolutely essential that I sit down and write you - tonight-
regarding the work your team has just finished on our home.
Your men have worked nearly non-stop doing work that is
beautiful.
The new roof has 'stopped' our neighbors. They have come
to us telling us they like everything about it, too! The color, the
quality, the materials, the workmanship - everything is perfect.
To us the description is "Amazing!"
This new roof is beyond our expectations. If we can rate your
company and the work you have provided we will give it 10 stars
if possible.
From beginning to end you have attended to every detail with
professionalisn.
We are very thankful we have worked with your company.
Gratefully,
"Member, Your response means a lot to our company. It is customers like you that remind us why we love working in exterior remodeling so much! Your appreciation of the time and detail put into our proposals as well as the quality of the products we use shows what kind of consumer you are. We always enjoy a job where we can provide the highest standard of products and service to our customer and we take pride in your finished product. Your home is stunning and we hope you will get to bask in the glow of your neighbor's admiration for quite a while longer. Thank you very much for taking the time to write this review, we certainly appreciate it and value your business and feedback. Mark E. Mitchell, President and Owner"
"We try to provide our customers with photos of the repair work since it is impractical for the homeowner to climb onto the roof and assess the repair first-hand. I am glad we were able to provide this service to you and that you found it helpful. We enjoyed working with you and hope to have the chance to work together again!"
"We enjoyed meeting with you and hope that we will get the opportunity to work with you on your future projects!"
"Member, We are so glad we were able to handle that leak for you and that it is no longer giving you any problems. We do our best to give repairs top priority before they create any larger issues for the customer inside the home! Please keep us in mind if there is anything we can help you with in the future- including windows, doors, decking and patios, siding, and full roof replacements!"
Based on the estimates, professionalism, knowledge and customer service, we selected Consumer Construction. They scheduled us quickly as we were working towards a deadline for putting our house on the market for sale. Prior to starting work, we hit a snag. One of the skylights they ordered was a "fixed" skylight instead of an "active" skylight (one that opens and closes). We requested an "active" skylight as that is the type needed for an identical replacement of the existing skylight. Neither Consumer Construction nor my husband and I realized this mistake until the materials were delivered prior to beginning work on the project. We called Mark and he and his staff discovered their clerical error, apologized profusely, and did everything possible to locate the "active" skylight that should have been ordered. Unfortunately, they were not able to locate an "active" skylight in stock prior to the scheduled work. Given our situation (rushing to get our house ready for sale), my husband and I decided it was more important to stick to the work schedule than to wait a week for the "active" skylight, so we settled on a "fixed" skylight and the work proceded as scheduled. We were credited the difference in cost between the two skylights without question or hesitation (the dimensions and materials used for the skylights were identical -- the only difference is that the "fixed" skylight didn't open and close and didn't have a removeable screen). The Consumer Construction customer service team was extremely apologetic and accommodating, and happy that we were able to reach an agreement and stay on schedule.
Our project was complicated and required two full days of work. The crew worked very hard from 7:30 a.m. to sundown (around 6:00 pm) taking just one short break each day. During the course of the installation, a satellite dish that was on our roof (no longer in use) was supposed to have been removed, but it was left in place. The crew completed the work, cleaned up beautifully, and left. By the time they were finished with their cleanup, it was dark and we couldn't inspect the work, so we waited until the next morning. As we reviewed their completed work, we noticed that the satellite dish was still in place. Apparently, the instruction to remove the satellite dish did not appear on their (lengthy) work order. We called the company and they apologized profusely and acknowledged their error. They sent a crew to our house within an hour to rectify the situation. They carefully removed the satellite dish and replaced the necessary roof lining and replaced the new shingles that had been installed the day before -- to completely cover the area previously occupied by the satellite dish. Again, they were very apologetic and accommodating.
Despite the two problems we experienced (the skylight and the satellite dish), we were very happy with their work and the professional way in which they handled these problems. All things considered, we truly feel they deserve "A"s across the board.
Today, two days after installation, we had very heavy rain all afternoon. Both new skylights held up well and there was absolutely no leakage. They were installed and fitted beautifully.
We would definitely recommend Consumer Construction, and would use them again in the future.
"Member, You have certainly provided some valuable feedback for both our company and our future customers and we really appreciate that you took the time to write about your experience in such detail. From the start, our company takes a no-pressure approach to meeting with the customer and chooses instead to earn your trust through expert advice and attentive service. In your particular case, we did have the advantage of being a multi-trade company which is able to take on projects that include varying elements of exterior renovation. Our company prides itself on its ability to handle large-scale projects and complete exterior renovations. I understand that your job did require some call-back work and I am so glad we were able to handle that to your satisfaction. Though it is unfortunate that not every project can go without any return work, we make sure that any work required to get a job to 100% completion is made a top priority. We can't thank you enough for choosing our company above all other top-rated Angie's List contractors. We appreciate your efforts to be an informed consumer and in turn create opportunities for others to become informed as well. I hope that we will get the chance to work together in the future but until then, good luck with the sale of your home! I hope that the warranty transfer information helps provide that added boost for your prospective buyers! Mark E. Mitchell, Owner"
"Member, We are thrilled to have had the opportunity to work with you and are even more pleased that you are satisfied with our work. I hope you will keep us in mind for future projects or help our business grow by referring our company to your friends and family! And thank you so much for taking the time to write our review!"
They called me first thing the next morning and as we talked about setting up an appt for 2 days later, I noted that there was another big rain storm coming in and was worried about the rain getting in my attic. so, they said they would see if they could get someone to come out today and would call me back.
Before they even had a chance to call back (and within about 2 hrs) a truck pulled up and the men got out and straight to work. They took the old piece of ridge vent and left no trash, no signs they were even there. There were no hassles, no problems and I got great customer service.
"I'm so pleased that we were able to take care of your repair before the storm struck. I hope we will get the chance to work with you again! Thank you for the feedback- we really appreciate it."
