After getting estimates from multiple vendors we contracted with Brennan's to purchase and install a new high-efficiency heat pump to replace our existing air conditioner and oil-burning furnace. They did a great job both before and after the sale in answering our questions and explaining the technical aspects of the purchase. Their installers were prompt, careful, and fast. We're very happy with the product and with the professionalism of the service

My air-conditioner died just before Labor Day weekend. We had very high temps during that time. Brennan's came out and checked my unit to see if they could get it working and it was DEAD. They let me borrow a window unit for my bedroom so I would at least be able to sleep in with air conditioning while they ordered the unit. They were at my home when they said they would be and it actually took less time than expected. They were very professional and I would definitely use them again. I've recommended them to several of my neighbors.
Description of Work: I had a new air and heating system installed. I checked around for pricing and Brennan's had the best price. I'm very happy with their service and will definitely use them again in the future.

My air conditioner froze up last night. I called Brennan's this morning and they sent out Mike to look at my system. He quickly located the problem, gave me a quote, and did the job. In addition, he explained the cause of the problem and what to look out for in the future. Thanks for the great service experience.

Mike arrived about 10:30P and checked out the unit and made the necessary repairs quickly and professionally. He took the time to answer all my questions and concerns, and provided me the old parts. We were extremely happy with the service.
Description of Work: Our air conditioner stopped cooling on one of the hotest nights in July, and we needed an emergency repairr after hours. I called Brennan's and the after hours response was great. I was told that the job was assigned to Mike and that he would be contacting me to let me know when he would arrive. Mike called me, and kept me informed as to when he would arrive as he was on another job at the time.

I had been living on borrowed time for several years with my Furnace and Air Conditioning System. In late August my AC finally kicked the bucket for good. I knew I was in the market for to purchase and install a new system. I joined Angie's List specifically to get a list of reputable Heat and Air service providers. I selected three that came highly recommended and called to arrange for estimates. Brennan's was one of the three I called. Mike Brennan came out to take a look at my system. He came on time and was very professional. He spent about an hour going over the inside and outside components of the system and diagramed the ductwork and inside unit. He explained what I needed and went through the various options (essentially low, mid and high end based on SEER and performance characteristics). Very informative. Later that afternoon he emailed me a proposal. Of the three contractors that I received bids from I was most confident in the technical competence of Brennans and one of the others. The third contractor was very nice but didn't provide me with a strong impression of their technical understanding of the airflow requirements of my system and what I actually needed. The equipment that Brennan's proposed for my replacement system was nearly identical to the second contractor that I felt was a strong contender. But Brennan's proposal was about $700 less (the third contractor was actually the highest of the three in terms of cost) . Brennan's installation crew was also right on time (arrived at 830AM) and did a very good job on the installation of the system. I was particularly impressed with the craftsmanship associated with the metal work that they did. There was a substantial amount of duct re-working that was needed. They worked non-stop for about 7 hours until the job was complete. The supervisor very patiently explained to me how to work the programable thermostat and then I cut them a check and they were on their way. System is working great. Would definitely recommend Brennan's for this type of work.

Called Brennan's based on Angie's list recommendation. Fan stopped working in furnace, No AC, 90+ outside, and family due from out of town in 2 days. Brennans came over right away and determined a circuit board had shorted out due to excess moisture in the furnace. They ordered the circuit board and came back NEXT DAY to install. Also fixed a clogged outlet pipe from AC unit and cleaned up the excess water. Very curteous service, everything working perfectly. and price was very reasonable with Angies list discount. Highly Recommend.

Description of Work: Brennan's installed a new electric water heater and a replacement air conditioning system. Mike Brennan provided me with several options and pointed out the issues with my current system. All three appliances were 15 years old. Everything was explained to me in great detail. The installers (2) arrived at 9am and installed everything in one day. It took them about 7 hours to finish everything and they were friendly and knowledgable. They covered my floors with drop cloths and removed all of the debris. It was one of the best experiences I've had with a contractor. I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

Of the three companies I got an estimate from, Brennan's was by far the most thorough. Mike Brennan was in my attic for a while, and made me a drawing to explain my system and the space available, and why a certain model was better b/c of the size. Their estimate was also about 1000 less than the competition - who may have been recommending a system that wouldn't have fit! The installers came on time and had no issues and were done by the end of the day. Note - it was a hot day to be up in an attic, and they didn't seem to mind at all. There was one minor issue of a strange flapping noise when the system was on high (noticed the next day) - and they quickly responded and sent someone out to fix the issue. Mike Brennan called to make sure everything was ok, which I greatly appreciated. I took a while to write this review, but have now had my new system (Carrier) for the summer, and have had no issues at all. I'd definitely recommend Brennan's.

We’ve used Brennan’s several times for heating/air conditioning problems. This time we had an air conditioner that was not working. They came out the same day we called for diagnosis and were able to install the new system the next day. They provided three different priced options to select from and also offered interest-free financing for 2/3 of the cost of the system. They were punctual for the installation appointment and called ahead to let me know they were on the way. They also protected the carpeting by putting down sheeting and used covers on their shoes. They explained the new system and what we needed to do to care for it. The only downside to this appointment was related to my misunderstanding of the coupon they offered on Angie’s List. The coupon offers 10% off repairs or $300 off a complete system replacement. Apparently, purchasing/installing a new air conditioner and evaporator coil does not fall into either of these categories even though it was to repair a non-functioning unit. The VP did decide to refund me the initial diagnostic charge of $96 and a different coupon of $100 was applied to the work. I consider this a fair compromise. Overall, we will definitely use Brennan’s again and have been very satisfied with both their customer service and overall value.

It was a challenge to the company but they were amazingly prompt and professional. Great experience.
Description of Work: Experienced several issues with the fan in the furnace/AC unit during the week with the fan eventually failing to operate. I contacted Brennan's via phone and email the night the fan stopped, and they were incredibly prompt in following up at 7:30AM the next morning. (I did not report it as an emergency so was greatly/nicely surprised at the quick response). They came out the same day - did an analysis of the antiquated furnace, and we all determined that rather than fix the old furnace/AC unit, it would be best to install a new one They came out the next day to do that. The anticipation was to have a rather normal installation; however, the old furnace was full of surprises. A scheduled install of 3 to 4 hours became 12. Gari and Fred were the two who put forth over and above service to ensure the installation was completed that day doing a fantastic job on the new furnace. Their service manager even came out to help create the custom made covering for the new furnace/ac unit...you can tell that there is a mutual respect for everyone in the company and they all pitch in as a team. It's a rare thing in most industries and it was great to see it's existence in Brennan's. I highly recommend Brennan's and if Gari and Fred happen to be one of your technician's I know the job will be done well. Good luck to the company's continued success.

My existing HVAC system was a Goodman SEER 13 system installed in 1999 by Cropp Metcalf. Although consumer reports states that this is a system to avoid, it performed flawlessly until this spring mainly for two reasons: 1, It was installed by a reputable contractor; 2. It was on a continuous annual / semi-annual preventive maintenance program. During the annual preventive maintenance cycle this spring, the technician from Michael and Sons noted that the compressor was showing indications that it is approaching end of life and that at best it has one more summer season left in it. He recommended Carrier Inverter technology as that is what he was going to install in his own home. I started my source selection by referencing consumer reports ( www.consumerreports.com) and Air Conditioning Contractors of America ( www.acca.org/consumer). Referencing these sites was the best approach to learn what the key issues are that you must pay attention to. The bottom line lesson learned is that there are three major considerations to find the optimal solution for you; in priority order: 1. The system installation contractor is the most important factor to address; 2. System operational performance and reliability; and, 3. Determine the total cost of ownership. Together these allowed me to determine the best value system. 1. CONTRACTOR SELECTION: I reviewed Angies list and then the Better Business Bureau data bases. From this review I selected several contractors to contact and settled on Michael & Sons, Manix Heating & Cooling, LLC, F.H. Furr, and Brennan's Heating & A/C, Inc. Each of these contractors proved to be highly professional and delivered excellent evaluations and presentations. I have no doubt that any of them deliver high quality installation and services. 2. SYSTEM PERFORMANCE & RELIABILITY: My research into each of the major technologies available lead me to the two-stage compressor, inverter, & variable speed DC motor fan technologies available that are key to delivering the highest level of performance and lowest cost of ownership. There are many manufacturures delivering two stage compressor heat pumps and variable speed air handlers. However, I only found that Carrier offers a heat pump with inverter technology at this time that should substantially reduce heating cost. Some limited knowledge of these technologies helped in my discussions with the professionals who provided a clear picture of the state of technology. The brands manufacturing residential systems that were closest to what I wanted ended up being Carrier and Lennox. I received bids on both that end up with Carrier Infinity 20, Infinity 16, and Lennox XP16 providing the top three scores in best value. However, I selected the Infinity 20, because it delivers the lowest TCO. 3. TOTAL COST OF OWNERSHIP: The best and final bids I received ranged from $12,400 to $16,500. My installation also included some significant work on the duct system and the optional air filtration, air scrubber, humidifier, and E-Z Trap systems. I selected Brennan's Heating & A/C as their offering proved to deliver best value. Mike Brennan was patient and agreed to the additional Manual-J load analysis which proved to be a very smart move that saved $1,000 of up front cost and $9,000 of operating cost over 12 years. Mikes willingness to work with me on the price of options that he knows are important during the life of the system again demonstrates Brennan's commitment to their customers. Another important factor about Brennan's, and high quality HVAC product and services providers, is that after the sale, Mike doubled his efforts to reduce delivery risk and my satisfaction, by explaining in detail the end-to-end delivery process. I confirmed my specific expectations in writing and he followed up to complete the communication. Mike promissed delivery of the system within two days to the specifications and desires we both agreed to. Mike completed our communications directly to Darryl, Team Foreman up front on the day of delivery. This gave him time to ask questions to ensure he understood the objectives and customer expectations up front to again close the communications loop. Darryl clearly had the respect and rapport with all members of the Brennan's Team on and off site that made him effective and efficient as he directed and worked through the installation proccesses, techniques, and procedures. There are some aspects of the installation on plenum sizing and location of duct work. These are personal preferences and will not impact system performance. Replacing your HVAC system is a major expense that includes not just the price you pay up front, but the cost of operations and maintenance. Informed, smart decisions will ensure you get the best value for your money. Overall, I strongly recommend you consider Brennan's Heating and Air Conditioning, Inc. when you need to select and install a new or replacement HVAC system. I also recommend you anticipate when your HVAC system needs to be replaced. My selection process required about two weeks. A good technician can inspect your system and advise you on the status of your system and provide a reasonable estimate on its remaining life cycle. It is smart to get more than one opinion as well. FOLLOW-UP WORK: On 8 August 2012, I noticed the system wasnt cooling properly upstairs. Brennan's sent out Bill, their operations supervisor, to inspect system performance and provide an additional quality control checks. We found some of my registers were not open, but more importantly two flexible connections at the supply plenum were leaking air. I also commented that I was not happy with the return and air handler plenum. Once again, Brennan's proved that they guarantee satisfaction. We agreed to the details of what corrections needed to be made. On 10 August 2012, Brennan's team came back out and completed all corrections to the return and air handler plenums and replaced the flexible duct connectors. These efforts improved the air flow to the upstairs and improved upstairs cooling. To be fair, Brennan's engineers had some concerns that a zone controller may be needed. A zone controller installation would cost an additional $2500. We agreed that we would try to make this work and only install the additional system if we found it became necessary. This is another reason that I view Brennan's as the best value service provider. I'm very satisfied the installation and the initial performance of the Infinigy 20. I noted a small savings on this months electric bill, but the system was only operating the last five days of the billing period. Next months bill will be the first test of system efficiency/ operating cost.
Description of Work: I selected Brennan's Heating and Air Conditioning to install a Carrier Infinity 20 system. Mike Brennan provided excellent sales / technical consulting services to aid in my selection process (see the discussion below that describes my selection approach). I developed a cost/benefit analysis spreadsheet to accurately determine total cost of ownership vs performance to determine the best value system / configuration for my specific situation. Once I selected Brennan's I asked Mike to complete a detailed Manual-J load analysis of my home to make sure that I needed the 4 ton system recommended. Mike felt this was a good idea because he was not aware initially that I had installed windows and doors with E-rated glass. This was a good idea because the analysis proved that a 3 ton system would work and have a good margin of excess capacity. Mike then gave me his best and final offer which reduced his price further and he gave me reduced pricing of an air scrubber, humidifier, and improved air filtering that will improve comfort all for a lower cost than the 4ton unit alone. This is the mark of a quality contractor aiding in making the decisions that will truely deliver best value. For example: the total cost of ownership (TCO) for purchase, operations/maintenance of the existing system was over $35K for the 12years it operated. The HVAC industry online simulation data entered into my cost model indicates the Carrier Infinity-20 heat pump / air handler deliversy a TCO of $8404 (this include the savings realized over the existing system baseline). Mike arrived on 2 Aug with his installation team 5min ahead of schedule. We reviewed the installation with the Team Leader, Darryl who demonstrated his knowledge and their process driven approch to de-install the existing system and install the new system. Each team member meticulously followed NATE certified process, techniques, and procedure. Brennan back office, team members worked efficiently to move equipment and supplies from their shop to my home arriving on time for each part of the installation. Quality control checks were completed with the oversight of Darryl. The team turned up the new system and completed a meticulous and thorough test and verification of the system and subsystem components installed to ensure each was operting properly. Ed Guzman completed a full review of the Brennan installation quality check list and confirmed all aspects of system operation to my satisfaction and completed the project exactly on time as Mike Brennan stated. I developed some concerns after the system was in operation. I contacted Brennan's and the Operations Supervisor came out immediately to perform a quality check on the installation. He found additional issues with the duct system and I reviewed my concerns on the return and air handler plenum. Again, Brennan's demonstrated they guarantee satisfaction. On 10 August 2012, Brennan's made adjustments to my satisfaction. Overall, I have worked with large scale infrastructures and system installations for many years. Brennan's clearly believes in business and technical process management and field team performance that results in commercial grade quality for a residential best value price. Thanks to all in the Brennan's Team.

On Saturday, the temperature in the area reached 106 degrees and my A/C unit couldn't handle it anymore. The capacitor blew out, understandably. I didn't know that until the technician came out but that was the problem. I called for help the next day, Sunday, instead of waiting until Monday. Brennan's said they would send a technician. The rates were what you would expect for services on a Sunday since they didn't occur during normal business hours. However, they were quite reasonable given the circumstances and I can imagine that less reputable contractors would take advantage of the situation in their favor. Brennan's did not. The technician was on time and identified the problem immediately, quoted me a price for fixing it and was done pretty quickly with the work. I would definitely hire them in the future for my needs. The only thing perplexing was that the technician recommended I get a new HVAC unit. I grant you that my current unit is 12 years old, but that's an expensive change, between $7000 or more dollars. I didn't see a reason to consider that though his assessment was correct, I don't get a lot of cool air pushed to my third level (my town house is all three levels above ground, third level has a hard time staying cool). Anyway, I was happy overall.

We had to get the service person to come out on the weekend --our work schedule did not permit us the luxury of waiting and while we had to pay an overtime fee, we appreciated Brennan's willingness to work us in their schedule. The person I talked to to arrange the schedule was SO accommodating (unlike another well-known service in Manassas that announced.."just getting ready to walk out the door...we do weekend calls, but you will need to work through the voice mail system..."). Conversely, Brennan's spokesperson not only welcomed my call but arranged a back-up plan is the technician could not come. Also--the technician called exactly when he said he would! Brennan's technician arrived, was very pleasant, efficient, and responsive. He also gave us good counsel about the future. I don't know that it matters to anyone but me, but in my research of the company, I also saw that Brennan is an established company--basic, solid service that is time tested; further, Brennan's team was diverse --women, men, people of color, varied ages. That means a great deal to us in hiring a company..such an effort makes our community stronger. Way to go, Brennan.

They came out in July to fix my AC, it was a warranted part but they had to order it. I would have to pay a delivery fee of $250. They told me there was an issue between myself and the manufacturer of the part. It's not a problem with the works they do, but I think its a problem with the respect that I'm receiving as a customer. I have paid their annual maintenance fee, and I am not satisfied with the customer service. I think that they need to take care of the fee for delivery since I'm a routine customer. I would like for them to wave the next two years of maintenance fees.

Response from Brennan's Heating & Air Conditioning Inc
First I would like to let the customer know that we really understand her frustrations. However, she has an extended warranty contract with the manufacturer of her HVAC equipment. This extended warranty contract covers the cost of parts and labor for repairs to her HVAC system during normal business hours. It does not cover the cost of shipping parts. Once we diagnosed the problem we tried to order the part needed to get her system running from the local distributor. The part was not available locally and would need to be ordered from the factory. Standard shipping from the factory is 10 to 14 days. We inquired about getting the part sooner and found that expedited shipping would cost about $250.00 which is not covered by her extended warranty contract. The customer elected not to pay for the expedited shipping and wait until the part arrived. Brennan’s is just the servicing company for the manufacturer. We do not make the equipment or the parts, and have no control over the stocking or shipping of the manufacturer’s equipment. Had the part been available at the local distributor, we would have picked it up and installed it immediately. We would have billed all charges to the manufacturer under her extended warranty contract, fulfilling our obligation to both the customer and the manufacturer. While the customer does have a service contract with our company for routine maintenance, we fulfill that obligation by performing two inspections of her HVAC system each year. Expecting Brennan’s to be responsible for the cost of shipping a part to repair her HVAC equipment is unreasonable. Asking Brennan’s to wave the $159.00 renewal of her service contract for two years is unreasonable. We have finally received the part from the factory and will be installing it this afternoon. While we have tried to provide great customer service, we have explained that if she is unhappy with our company she has the right under her extended warranty agreement with the manufacturer to change to another servicing company. The manufacture’s extended warranty department can be contacted at 1-800-554-8005.

After the heavy storm and winds that hit Virginia a few days ago we heard a loud noise coming from the AC fan located outside the house. When I went to check it out I noticed that the fan was not moving but the AC was turned on. I called up the AC company that performed the inspection on the unit before but they were not able perform good customer service in that they promised that their emergency technician would call the same day. I had to call them again and then I received a call that no one will come out. So after word of mouth from my neighbor I contacted Brennan's Heating & and Air Conditioning. They received my emergency call that same day and I heard back from their emergency tech soon after. The tech explained that his team was very busy dealing with other customers' issues and said that he could come out the next day between 12-6 in the afternoon. On Monday June 2nd, the tech called stating that he would arrive by 1pm, which he did. He performed the emergency service on the AC fan unit outside by replacing a bad capacitor. He said this would be temporary in that Brennan's would need to order the Goodman capacitor since my AC unit was still under warranty and they would come out for no charge to install it. In total the services would come out to nearly $200 but after I was informed about the offer that Brennan's has for signing up for a 1 year service contract which would cost only $159 I decided on it. This 1 year service would allow me to have two inspections and cleaning performed on my AC and heating unit. The technician David was very knowledgeable and provided some useful information about the AC and heating for later seasons. Also, after signing up for the 1 year service contract he performed other services such as cleaning out the fan unit and the AC unit located inside the house to prevent it from clogging up. Overall, he was a blast to talk with and his services were professional and full of excellence. I would recommend Brennan's Heating and Air Conditioning to anyone!
