Brennan's was fantastic, we purchased a new home and the A/C & Heating System was 19 years old not working properly and just ugly. Brennan's had Pat come by to take a look, we ask him if we could redesign the set up to get more space from our utility room, Pat and his team put together a plan. On the day of the installation Danny, Mark and Mike come out and were ready to work, worked as a team and by the end of the day we had a new system that was working fantastic and a utility room that was cleaner then when they arrived. I would defiantly recommend them to all my friends and family

The technicians, Donny and Darius arrived right on time and started to work. They first covered our hardwood floors with drop clothes to protect them, and always wore shoe covers whenever walking in the house. The install took about 12 hours as they meticulously removed the old sytems and then set about installing the new higher efficiency systems. They removed all the fluid lines and installed new. Due to the requirements of the new systems they had to install new fresh air and exhaust lines for the furnace. They also added a new whole house humidifier and media filter system. They had to rework the existing duct work to fit the new systems and connect into the water supply for the humidifies. All installed items were neatly placed, secured and put in so as not to interfere with the useable space in the basement. The finished install looked so much better than the previous system. The duct work was neat and orderly and blended with the installed systems, the fluid lines and pipes were almost invisible unless you knew what to look for. They left the work area inside and out as clean as they found it, it was like they had never been there. Even though they had been there for 12 hours they took a lot of time going over the systems with us, explaining how each operated and what we needed to know to keep them in proper running order. They spent a lot o time reviewing the operation of the thermostat and went into detail about the warrantys and maintenance. We have used Brennan's for over a decade to maintain our hvac systems across multiple homes, they have always been honest, above board and provided excellent service. This is the first time we have had to install a new hvac system and the experience could not have gone better. Brennan's even went as far as to register all our new systems with the manufacurers for us so that the manufacturers warranty would be in place the day they delivered it. They also pulled the building permits and are arranging the countly inspector to come do the final inspection. We literally did not have to do anything ourselves, Brennan's took care of everything. Service this good is hard to come by these days and we really appreciate all the folks we worked with at Brennans.
Description of Work: Removed old gas furnace and air conditioning system. Installed a new Carrier high efficiency gas furnace, new Carrier air conditioning unit and coil, installed a whole house humidifier and high efficiency media air filter system. Also installed wifi connected Carrier Infinity Thermostat. Replaced all fluid lines and installed new fresh air and exhaust pipes for the gas furnace.

This is a review of Brennan's quotation service for a air conditioning replacement part job. I had great difficulty in getting any satisfaction with the part's manager for this company. All the usual excuses why their price for the job was substantially more expensive than what is quoted online, even when I showed that the comparisons were valid. This company quoted $715.00 for the job; another company quoted $550.00 for the same job. I had to hunt and hunt on the web for information. Not helpful, why would you use such a company. Just so tired of companies coming up with extremely high pricing and justifying it against their inefficient level of overhead charges, and "distributor" costs. If I can go onto the internet and get parts with free shipping and at 100% less then so can these companies. And saying the customer just doesn't understand is just insulting. High charge-out rates to cover indirect costs that are not being constrained just accepted and passed onto the customer work fine when there is no other providers.
Description of Work: Provided a totally inadequate quote for an air conditioning repair job.

Response from Brennan's Heating & Air Conditioning Inc
Brennan's Heating and Air Conditioning has been listed on Angie's List since 2005 and has received the "Angie's List Super Service" award for the last nine years in a row. In this time, I have never seen a more inaccurate review from a phone conversation. This customer called on 5/9/16 and asked for a price to replace a condenser fan motor. Unfortunately, the customer didn't have the necessary information for us to provide a quote. We suggested the customer reach out to the company that condemned the motor for the model number or part number of the equipment. The customer stated that they didn't want to use this company anymore and they were sick of dealing with a mid-sized company with high overhead expenses and having to pay for overpriced repairs. Instead of just saying "we're sorry, we can't help you", we explained to the customer where they could find the model number. On 5/10/2016, the customer called back with the model number. Within 15 minutes, we had a price quote and availability of the motor. The customer was given a price quote or $715.00 for the installation of the motor, a motor capacitor and a comprehensive 28 point inspection of the air conditioning system. The price included all materials, labor, and taxes. We back our services with a 1 year parts and labor warranty. Also, this customer would have received an additional 10% discount, if they would have made us aware that they were an Angie's list member. Total cost would have been $643.00. At that point, the customer stated they did their own research and found the motor listed for sale on an internet site. We attempted to highlight the differences between using a contractor that is providing a service versus just ordering a part from the internet to this customer, but obviously they didn't see any value in hiring a reputable contractor. Several times in their review, the customer makes reference to "these companies" which makes me wonder how many HVAC contractors provided this customer with the same information. I felt compelled to copy and past the " Disclaimer of Warranties and Limitation of Liability" directly from the website that this customer researched and is suggesting HVAC contractors to purchase from. Who would ever order from this website? You be the judge! DISCLAIMER OF WARRANTIES AND LIMITATION OF LIABILITY: "THIS SITE IS PROVIDED ON AN "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE" BASIS. NO REPRESENTATIONS OR WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND ARE MADE, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, AS TO THE OPERATION OF THIS SITE OR THE INFORMATION, CONTENT, MATERIALS, OR PRODUCTS INCLUDED ON THIS SITE. THIS SITE'S OWNER WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY DAMAGES OF ANY KIND ARISING FROM THE USE OF THIS SITE, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO DIRECT, INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, PUNITIVE AND CONSEQUENTAIL DAMAGES." Given the opportunity, I truly believe this customer would have seen the professionalism and value from our staff at Brennan's, if they had chosen us as their service provider. However, this rush to judgment of our company, because you are looking for a cheaper price, is unwarranted and very inappropriate. This customer has never used our services, doesn't know anything about our business structure, our overhead, our morals, or our employees.

. Our A/C unit stopped working in the middle of the summer and they came out the next day (without an emergency charge) to diagnose and repair the unit. Adam Brown was our technician and he was exceptional to work with. Adam did a complete diagnostic on our unit and went over everything with us before completing any repairs. Our A/C was about 8 years old and it was a "builders grade" (read: the builder installed the cheapest unit they could) model and we were concerned that it would need to be replaced. Adam explained to us that the compressor was very weak, the coils were rusted, and overall it was performing in very poor condition. We inquired about replacing the unit and he explained to us that it wasn't something that we probably needed to do right away. He estimated that we still had a good two years left in the unit and gave us some advise as to when to consider replacing it. He told us what times of the year we can get the best price on new A/C units and when labor is the cheapest. He advised that we save up some money and buy a new one when we can get the best deal. There was absolutely no pressure to replace our unit. He told us what the problem was (a blown capacitor) and explained to us how the part was fairly expensive (about $85 - $100 if I recall correctly) but that we wanted this part as opposed to a cheap knock off that some people insist on. I can't remember the details of the conversation, but we wholeheartedly agreed with him and we still think we got a good deal. The total cost was about $300. About $100 was parts and about $100 was diagnostic. So $100 for a service call and labor seems really reasonable. The bottom line is we loved Adam and we feel like we were treated well and got a good deal. We'll definitely use Brennan's, and ask for Adam, in the future.

Called when breaker popped late Friday night. Jeff came out and investigated the problem. Our compressor was shot so he gave us options for repair or replace, Because the system was older than 10 years it would not be compatible with the new systems. Jeff said he would get with his supervisor to voice our concerns and get back to us the next day. He called again the next dsy and told us the results of his conversation with his supervisor and said that we would get a call on Minday morning and we could make our decision on what to do based on their pricing options. We received the call and after discussions with their finance people, they lowered the price to where we were comfortable so we decided to do a total system replacement. They said that they had an installation crew standing by and they could complete the install today. An hour later they called and said the install team was on their way. Darryl and Rembrr arrived, took a look at the job and got right to work. They put down clothes everywhere they were moving equipment inside the house to alleviate dirt, etc. They were both very professional and explained everything when I asked questions during the install. It took about 4 hours to complete the installation and when they were done, Darryl explained everything I would need to know as the homeowner.

Phenomenal! I contacted Brennan's about 1030pm when a couple of wires in my old HVAC caught fire and the system stopped producing heat. The previous company I had been using didn't perform emergency services after 10pm -- my HVAC didn't care what time it was! I looked at Angie's List, saw that Brennan's performed emergency services, and Gari came out right away. What a nice man. He covered his shoes as soon as he entered, inspected the equipment, explained what happened, and repaired the wires so I would have heat that night (and could sleep without worry it would catch fire again). The system was 16-17 years old and I knew I would need a new one soon -- this did it for me. I asked Gari for some estimates. His first question was "what's your plan for this house?" What a smart question! It helped me determine how much money I wanted to put into the system. We discussed things at length, and he left me material about 2 Carrier systems he recommended. They service multiple brands, but are certified Carrier installers. He answered all of the questions I could think about after midnight, and I never felt under pressure. As promised, a written estimate was e-mailed to me very early in the morning by the wonderful staff at the office. They gave me credit for the emergency repair work and the Angie's List install discount. I had another company provide an estimate as well for the same Carrier systems. Yes, the other company came in much cheaper, but Gari had warned me that Brennan's isn't the most expensive but not the cheapest -- but they had a tremendous customer service. Brennan's also could install the next day (Friday) while the other company would try to fit me in. Brennan's model was slightly different than the other company's but when I asked Gari about the difference, he thought the other model would be too large for the tight spaces I had. (Gari answered several calls from me later in the day about the systems.) I selected Brennan's for their professionalism, no high-pressure sales, anticipated customer service, and their outstanding Angie's List reviews. The afternoon before they arrived, Gari called to tell me he heard some systems might get a tax rebate -- good news for me! Gari called early Friday morning to double check on the install team's arrival, but also to state he did some more research for me and the rebate might not be available for me after all. So, the company reduced my price by $100, and provided me with a one-year maintenance agreement. Wow -- I'd already made my decision and they were still trying to "make it right" for me. Awesome. As promised, Mike and Zach arrived within the expected hour. They too covered shoes, were dressed very cleanly, and worked non-stop until the job was done! Even though I encouraged them to take a lunch break, the two insisted on completing the job. I confess I like to watch such installations, so I periodically checked up on them -- at no time did I see them sitting around checking e-mails, or just hanging out. Each time I looked they were busy, and easily explained anything I asked of them. I had a complete system install -- fan/coil, heat pump, and humidifier units. When complete, they took the time to explain the thermostat options and programming, the filter locations, and overall flow of the units. They cleaned up the area and were gone -- and the heat works great! I received a call from Gari a few days later to check in and see how I liked the system, and offered to stop by the next week to check everything and answer any questions I had. I intend to have him drop by for about 10 minutes only to answer any questions I've uncovered since. I also received within the week a packet and letter from the company, containing copies of the warranties submitted on my behalf (they take care of that). Any calls I've made to the office were outstanding ... extremely polite ladies and always eager to help me with anything, from the proposal signatures to scheduling. A few days later during dinner with some friends from Woodbridge, a friend noted she used Brennan's too and had been pleased with them. I am very happy to be under their maintenance care right now -- yes, I may have spent a few dollars more, but I feel like I am getting a complete, professional, supportive deal. I intend to keep using them from here on!

It was great. It was a seamless all around process. From placing the service call, to scheduling an appointment, to receiving confirmation from the dispatch regarding the technician's arrival, to the technician arriving on time as scheduled and performing the service as required. Adam Brown, the service technician, was very professional and explained every detail of the service. He inspected the area, made an assessment and provided his professional opinion regarding the service needed to rectify the issue. He immediately went to work resolving the problem. The results were immediate. I am very pleased with the service received from Brennan's Heating & Air Conditioning. Highly Recommend.

Paul came to inspect our HVAC system as we were considering replacing it. He was incredibly friendly and helpful, answering all of our detailed questions and follow-up questions. We weren't sure if we would need a new system or not, and he gave a lot of good reasons why we should wait a few years, and some steps we can take in the meantime with the current one to make it work better. We greatly appreciate his honesty and responsiveness and will be calling to do work with Brennan's in the future for our HVAC needs.

I decided not to use them any further because they recommended a new air conditioning unit and it turned out with some replacement parts the air conditioner continued to work with no problems. So, even though their recommendation was probably accurate because it was an older unit, it still was repairable. I don't think I would use them again, in fact I stopped using them. Their price was reasonable. They basically did not do the repairs, they wanted to replace the unit. I felt like that was a wasted cost.

We purchased 20 year old town house that had the original furnace and a 12 year old AC. At the time of purchase, our inspector warned we would likely have to replace both in the near future. After moving in we had to have minor repairs performed, but our HVAC company assured us it was in good shape. After this company closed, we called another A list member from Angie?s List and signed up for a one year plan that included two services a year. When they came for the first service (winter) the technician shook his head when the machine started and said the motor was on the verge of breaking. After some conversation and some deliberation, we decided to stop kicking the can down the road and install a new system. The gentleman from the A List company provided three total system replacement estimates ranging from 12-20K. He said the low end would easily suit our purposes. This Lennox package included the SL280V Gas Furnace, XC17 Air Conditioner, Pure Air House Purification System, and an S30 WIFI Thermostat. No information was provided for the evaporator coil. We almost jumped on it, but decided to secure another estimate. Interestingly, the A List company did not provide a written estimate. A friend referred us to Brennan?s Heating and Air Conditioning. We called that same day and they were there that night. The technician (Paul) was friendly and admitted his company was not the most expensive and not the cheapest. They were somewhere in the middle. He measured and said he would send an estimate with options based on the needs of our home. He also warned against the purification system, stating cheap filters changed once a month do the best job for keeping the air clean. The next day we had an estimate for 8.2K. The difference in price was astonishing. The components were Carrier and included model numbers 24ACC636 for the AC, CNPVP4821 for the Evaporator Coil, and 58CVA090-1-16 for the gas furnace. We compared both systems and found them to be identical in efficiency, capability, technology. The were near identical in component price (carrier being slightly more), reliability (carrier being better rated) and popularity (too close to call). After looking at the math, we concluded the other company was asking for nearly 4-5K in extra cost while Brennan?s was asking for about 2K. Again this is according to my online research. Naturally we went with Brennan?s. Zach and Danny came to install the system about a week later. They were very professional and did not take any shortcuts. We watched them install it most of the day and was impressed at their attention to detail and worries about aesthetics. They took their time and were in no hurry. When they installed the outside unit, it was larger and required some work to level the ground. They used existing rocks from the rock bed the unit sits in to do this. Realizing the use of the rocks left the bed with mostly dirt, they called and had another Brennan?s employee deliver some new gravel to replace the rocks used to level the unit. Although this did not cost much and they footed the bill, the fact they chose to to take the time to make the installation look good was most appreciated. At the end of the installation they fully tested the system and walked me through the features. Folks, we are here to tell you this is one quiet system. We cannot tell when it is on (the old one always let us know when it came on and off). We are also amazed at the steady temps maintained in the home. We are very pleased with the overall service and would always recommend Brennan?s. Buyer beware?always shop around and put stock in a company?s reputation.

Our 20 year+ a/c was running nonstop and we found it leaking inside. The Brennan's person on the phone said to turn it off to prevent freezing up, and they would send someone out that morning. Adam the technician, arrived, checked the system out, found the problem and repaired it, and checked the rest of the system out. They called before the technician arrived to let us know he was on the way. The price was reasonable and the service was great! Adam was a true professional and did a terrific job - everything we would expect from Brennan's! He didn't try to sell us a new system, but we will definitely call Brennan's when this one finally gives out!

Great. I was having problems earlier in the week with warm air blowing out of the vents, called Brennans for service since I bought the unit from them in 2007 and had a warranty. Bryan replaced a part in the outdoor unit but then we realized the air was still warm. After much investigating and attempts to get the system working he realized the original wiring was breaking apart. Bryan and Rick returned a couple days late to replace the wiring. I appreciate their efforts to snake the wires through a very small space without having to cut drywall. They were friendly, patient, professional and kept me informed of their progress. I would use them again. Thanks for the great customer service.

Brennan Heating & Air Conditioning performed 2 unethical actions when repairing my home's outside air conditioner unit (fan was not spinning). 1) The Brennan technician unnecessarily replaced a fully functional air conditioner contactor. Specifically, I was charged $143 for a replacement contactor even though the contactor was fully functional. The invoice stated the contactor was replaced because it was "pitted and burnt". Fortunately, I asked for the old parts before the technician drove off.....the attached photo shows no pitting or burn marks. To make matters worse, my on-line research revealed that the contactor can be purchased for $9.59-$21.46.........Brennan's charged me $143. 2) I was charged an absorbent amount for replacing a broken air conditioner capacitor. Specifically, I was charged $247 for a capacitor that I learned after the fact costs between $40-$55 at Lowes and Home Depot (photo of capacitor attached to illustrate what a simple part it was). I paid the invoice in full ($486) at the time of repair (21 Jul 2015). This included parts and labor. The $96 labor/service fee is legitimate and agreed upon. I also agree that I should have been charged for the non-functional capacitor and a reasonable parts mark-up is understandable...BUT not $247 for a part that costs between $40-$55...that is an absorbent mark-up. The technician should not have replaced the functional contactor. They are welcome to swap the new contactor with my original. To compound the mistake, not only did the technician replace a functional part, I paid an incredible mark-up ($143 for a part that costs between $9.59 and $21.46 on-line). I expressed my displeasure with the technician as I wrote him a check for the entire bill ($486). Immediately after the technician left, I called the Brennan main office and asked to speak to the owner/manager (Joe?). I expressed my disappointment and informed the owner/manager I would not consider them for any future work.

Response from Brennan's Heating & Air Conditioning Inc
Thank you for giving us the opportunity to service your HVAC system and we appreciate your feedback. It is unfortunate to hear about your experience with our service department and we regret that you did not have a positive experience. At Brennan's, we take great pride in providing our customers with exceptional customer service, timely service, accurate diagnostics and service repairs...all at a fair price. We promise to provide our customers with a full evaluation of their HVAC system and to offer our professional recommendations based on years of experience. Every customer will receive an Up-Front repair estimate before any work is started. Our flat rate pricing guarantee’s our customers know the exact amount for every repair which includes all labor, materials and taxes. We back our services with industry leading warranties. In this customers case, the capacitor installation of $247.00 included labor, taxes and is backed by a 5 year part warranty/1 year labor warranty… the contactor installation of $143.00 included labor, taxes and is backed by a 1 part/1 year labor warranty. This customer was given Up- Front pricing for the repairs and was approved by the customer before the technician made any repairs. At Brennan’s, we only use OEM approved replacement parts, that may have slightly higher price tag than generic parts that can be purchased on the internet. OEM parts are engineered to exact equipment specifications to ensure form, fit and function…resulting in a longer lifespan and reliable equipment performance. The claim we replaced the contactor unnecessarily is very unfair and unwarranted. The picture the customer posted is a side view of the contactor. The burnt and pitted contacts can only be seen from a top view. A contactor that is pitting and burnt doesn't allow the full voltage (power) to reach the compressor and fan motor. This is known as "Voltage Drop". This Voltage Drop results in HEAT which then leads to burnt wires and possibly burnt motors and compressors…this is the reason the repair was recommended. HVAC Manufactures recommend replacing a contactor every 5 years under normal operation to avoid serious electrical damage to the equipment and to prolong the life of the equipment. Sincerely, Mike Brennan

I first called about a week ago because I was having problems with my central air. Turns out it and the furnace were completely corroded (yes, I looked at it myself) and apparently original to the home (25 yrs or so). We have lived here 12 yrs. The gentleman (Gari) explained everything thoroughly to me, told me all my options and choices, and I opted for the middle option over the least expensive one...the financing and guarantees were better. He said they could install it about 9 days later; in the meantime, Brennans provided and installed a window unit until the conversion would be completed. He was awesome made sure to tell me all options. I did not feel pressured at all. They arrived exactly when they said they would...calling before to let me know they were on their way. Richard (Rick) and Derrick were very professional (booties on the shoes), super polite, and answered all my questions. They know their stuff! They explained what they would be doing, how long things would take, when and how long for a lunch break (they were back and working before I could get my own lunch). They cleaned up everything better than when they arrived to start! When they finished, Rick went through everything step-by-step...what they did, what I needed to know, what I needed to watch for, how to change the filter, and then went through the paperwork and explained all the warranties and everything. I now have a 'new-fangled' thermostat...YAY! I can truly say, from start to finish, this has been one of the most pleasant experiences with people working on my home that I have ever had! From the office staff to everyone that came out to my home, particularly Gari, Rick, and Derrick...just OUTSTANDING service!!!

On a brutally hot day, technicians Darren and Rember worked tirelessly to remove 30-year old equipment and install a new heat pump, air handler and thermostat. By our calculations, they worked steadily for 9.5 hours without taking lunch. We were so impressed. Another truck came to pick up all the old equipment. Everything taken out or added had to be carried up and down stairs or outside. A lot of heavy work. My husband watched carefully and was able to make suggestions as needed. He was demonstrating the switches in the basement when he accidentally turned off the water system. After a number of hours, we all discovered there was no water and began to worry that the technicians had disconnected something, but then found out it was our fault. Darren and Rember were so gracious about it! Loved their work and loved their positive attitudes. We recommend this company without reservation!

The installation of the second floor heat pump unit want well, Brennan's was able to use the existing refrigerate line, high and low voltage circuits. Brennan's installers tested equipment and everything was fine. After a couple day the system stopped working the power want out on the unit. Brennan's technician came out and replaced low voltage fuse set the thermostat to run off the battery and left. The system was on through Friday night then want it want out again. When a different technician checked the system that Monday he replaced a circuit board on the out side unit. After several blown fuses the Brennan's technician found that the low voltage thermostat wire one for cooling was shorting out and blowing the fuses. He change the wire with an extra in the circuit'. it was fine for a while till the power was out again. this time it was the fusible ring pull station that was bad and needed to be replaced. After this it ran well for a couple years. Now for the recent A/C and gas furnace replacement, a week before the work would be done the upstairs unit want out again, Blowing a fuse on a low voltage circuit. The technician came out and use the last wire on the existing eight wire thermostat cable. At this time I realized that the cable will have to be replace. So I had the arranged to have it replaced when they replaced the gas furnace and A/C unit. There was a charge for replacing the thermostat line for the upstairs unit. The Sunday before Brennan's came out the circuit blowout the fuse again. the Technicians Came out the first of June and did a great job changing out the old furnace and A/C unit. It was running late in the day but the guys stayed and ran the new low voltage circuit . Both systems are running fine so far. I was satisfied with the install but realized after checking the thermostat was not the recommend thermostat for the system by the manufacture to give me the full benefits of the furnace bower design. I talked with Brennan's and they said they will be getting back to me today the 16th of June have not heard back yet..
