Called on Saturday to have propane delivered. I was on auto refill so not sure why I had to call in the first place. Was told I would receive a call back on Monday regarding an error with my account. Got the call back Monday morning and was immediately put on hold for 20 minutes followed by another request to call me back. Received a 3rd call from America's later that day and delivery was scheduled as an "emergency". 3 days later I still have no gas so a 4th phone call was made today. Was told by the agent that he didn't understand why I didn't have a delivery yet as an emergency was supposed to be delivered in 24 hours and he will call me back. Currently waiting on my 5th call for a simple delivery.

Horrible. They gauge you every chance they get. You have to monitor your bill because they will DOUBLE the rate on you. You have to compare to the U.S. Energy Information Administration then call them. You have to tell them that you've checked the rates. Then they will lie and tell you that you must have been coded in the wrong code. However sometimes they will not do anything. I'm fed up and am changing!

First let me start by saying the delivery service was great. We were on automatic fill and never had an issue. The delivery drivers are personable and, unfortunately, were the only part that reflected well on the company, in my experience. We have been using AmeriGas since July 2012 simply because they were the provided to the house we purchased at that time. We were fairly happy with our service until the Fall of 2013 when I started hearing about propane shortages and started seeing the price of my bill creep up. Propane shortages = higher bills, right? That was my thinking until January 2015 I received my bill and it was 1/4-1/3 higher than normal. When I saw the per gallon rate, I decided to investigate so I called around to 2 other providers and asked what their going rate was...both times is was in the mid-upper $3/gal range. So I asked if they had charged over $4/gal at any time during the heating season. Both providers said no, they had always been under $4/gal. So I called AmeriGas to ask why I had been charged $4.89/gal...since September of 2013! (I didn't notice the higher rate in Sep because my bill was around the same amount we always paid, but when I went back to look at it I noticed why it was the same...they only put 1/2 the amount of gas in!!) Anyway, I called AmeriGas and questioned the higher rate since I had heard consumer reports of companies taking advantage of the shortage and price gouging. I was calm and collected and only asked why the price was so high...didn't ask for a refund. The lady immediately said she was sorry and would issue a price adjustment. Wait. What? Red flag...if they weren't doing anything wrong, why issue and adjustment I didn't ask for? Of course I let her adjust it. Then I told her I would like to stop automatic delivery because I had lost trust in the company and planned to discontinue service with them. She put in the stop delivery order in January 2014. Fast forward to August 2014. Our tank is down to 20% (low enough to move, I was told). I called AmeriGas to come do a site survey to make sure they could reach the tank to remove it, since it was placed 20 years ago and the location is somewhat obscure. Sure they said! However, instead of a site survey, they sent the delivery man to fill the tank with 300 gallons. I was angry. My husband said he would have given up here and just remained with the company. Not me. I was too unhappy and had lost complete faith in them, particularly after this event. I called back and alerted them of the mistake. The man on the phone flippantly informed me that the lady I spoke to in January failed to put the stop delivery order on my account. I told him I did not believe that because the delivery service is fantastic and they would never let us get below 40-50% and here we had been at 20% for months. His tactic was to blame someone else for the mistake. Whatever, I know better. By now (and many phone calls later), we're in October. I had to call to schedule an appointment to pump their mistake out of the tank before they could move it. I was informed they could not schedule the tank pick-up until after it had been pumped. I told them it was getting cold and they would need to schedule both appointments. After some attitude, they did. The gentleman came to pump out the tank and, as always, was a professional person...way better than the service folks! They picked up the tank as scheduled. My new company delivered and filled our new tank 2 days later (after the weekend). Two weeks later our account with AmeriGas was settled and I received a check in the mail. Lo and behold they owed us $850...but only paid us $700 because they charged $149 to pump out the tank! I called and said I didn't think I should have to pay for their mistake. The manager reviewing my account said she saw where I had requested to stop delivery in January (you know, even though the guy I talked to earlier said the ex-employee never put the stop delivery on our account....) They said their policy was to charge to pump for anything over 5%, so even if they hadn't filled the tank they still would have charged me. I was told the tank could be moved with 20% or less propane in it. We were under 20%. If they hadn't filled the tank I would not have had to have them pump it at all! I'm still fighting this battle. Just letting you know that AmeriGas: - Are price gougers (They were charging $1+/gallon more than other companies - They tried to place blame on an ex-employee instead of owning up to their mistake (Lying!) - They have underhanded practices to trap their customers (I don't believe filling the tank was a mistake, I think it was a tactic) - I made it a point to stay calm, but customer service lost their temper with me at least twice...and both times it was because they were not listening - both representatives had a notion in their head of what they thought I was saying instead of listening to what I was actually saying, and then got irritated with me when I told them that wasn't the question I was asking. - Only 1 time have they returned my calls (not including my call to corporate...corporate returns calls). Our local office failed to return at least 4 calls when they said they would have someone call me back. This last time when the manager asked if she could call me back, I actually said to her, yes, but only if she would promise to call me back because no one from the company seemed to return calls...she's the only one who called me back. She called to tell me about the 5% rule. I have a call into their corporate office now. So ridiculous.

We purchased our home in July 2012 and decided to continue using the 500 gal propane tank that the previous owners were using, which happened to be owned by Amerigas. Delivery has been responsive and we have never had an issue with a low supply. My concern however is with the cost. Currently there is an effort to conserve propane due to conditions in the western plain states, so I expected prices would rise, but was not prepared for what we received on our last bill. Normally we pay less than or around $3.00/gal (our April 2013 price was $2.43/gal) making our bill around $400-500 for around 200 gallons (give or take 20 gallons). We received a delivery in November 2013 for 109 gallons at a rate of $4.08/gal....because the bill was still in the $400 range I didn't pay attention to the fact that only 100 gallons were delivered (my bad!) But then they delivered again in January and this time they delivered 217 gallons at $4.66/gal, which made our bill over $1,000! Can you say sticker shock?? That prompted me to call around to competing companies to determine the current price of propane. Quarles said their price was currently $3.30, Southern States was $3.79. So I called Amerigas to find out exactly why our price was so high. The representative gave me the speil about the propane 'shortage' and whatnot, but once I told her the prices for Quarles and Souther States she immediately offered to adjust our price on the bill to $3.69/gal without me even asking (which I guess is a positive, but the underlying cause is what concerns me....and the fact that it felt like she was doing so 'fast' talking. I mean, why was the bill so high in the FIRST place?? I hadn't even threatened to leave, nor was I upset or rude...I just stated facts and asked a question). She said that was the price for gas on the day it was delivered. Now.....I had asked Quarles if their prices had been over $4.00/gal at all during this heating season and they told me 'no'. Something feels fishy to me with the pricing at Amerigas so I am planning to switch companies. I said I would never use them again, but honestly, if I had to use them I would. They have friendly, knowledgable drivers and like I said before, they always filled the tank so we never had issues in that department, but their pricing policy is tainted for me right now so I think I need a nice long break from them to try someone else out.

We have a thousand gallon propane tank for the house so they come out to regularly fill the tank. Every time so far, we have to call them and dispute the price. We were told that because we live in a nicer area that we are charged more than average. We have done some research because it was really expensive. So we called them and asked why it was like a dollar more than the average price. They would say that he would talk to his manager and after 15 seconds said that they would give us a discount and it was like $800 more. But then, they still wouldn't refund that, it was just a credit on our account. So we basically gave them $800 of our money until the next time they filled our tank which was six months later, which again we had to call and dispute the price. So, I think people just need to be cautious. You could be charged more than your neighbor just because your house is nicer. They come out regularly and the people that come to fill it up is fine. It is however they price things or whatever magic they come up with to figure out the price which is the problem. They come out regularly. We've never had to call to have them come fill up the tank and there is always somebody there to answer the call. I would absolutely not use them if I had a choice.

I don’t like them so I would not recommend them. We have a tank that it is connected to a fireplace that we don’t use, expect in an emergency so they only have to fill it maybe, once every couple of years. They charge us just for the rental of the tank and it is fairly expensive; it is $82 per year. We are not even sure, if they own the tank or if we own it. That is why we are really upset with the company. The gage on the tank was broken, so they came over and said that they couldn't put any gas into it but still charged me for coming out. I thought that was pretty dishonest and the tank obviously should have been replaced. They were punctual. I think each company rents their own tank so one can’t change companies; one would also have to change tanks. They make it a three-year agreement and if one breaks that agreement, it is very expensive.

I pay monthly and the experience has been excellent. I am on a regular auto-fill program and they have a budget plan. They are really good, show up and I have only been short on propane one time and that was a misread by both of us so it was the fault of both of us. I have never had any issue with them.

Amerigas forwarded our information to a local office and a technicioan was sent out to provide us with an estimate for the work. We were very pleased with his professionalism and responsiveness. We intend to use Amerigas when we are ready to commit to a residential generator.

At the beginning of October we saw the Amerigas truck pull up in front of our house, since we were moving out the middle of October we asked the gas man not to fill our tank and to stop automatic fill, he said it wouldn't be a problem. The same day we called the Amerigas office it Warrenton to stop automatic fill. We were again told it was stopped. On November 8th we received an email from Amerigas saying they filled our tank and we owe $300.00. We immediately call Amerigas and we were told there was no record of our previous requests and we were responsible to pay. We asked them to go take the gas back and we were told to there would be a reclamation fee of $130.00. If you want your account closed with Amerigas request Amerigas provide you in writing that your account is closed. They will probably refuse as they did with us, just don't leave their office until they provide it, they will. This is not the first problem we had with them, but it will be the last.
