My appointment was rescheduled once by the the company saying that they were overloaded with calls. I was disappointed with this because I had taken a day off work to ensure I was home when the technician arrived. I was able to meet him the next week. Service wasn't bad. Did a thorough check of my furnace and thermostat. I have an older furnace and I'm most concerned with ensuring my everything was safe. He replaced one part that was going bad. I expected something to come up. Charged $199 to replace. But told me if I didn't do it now, if it went bad later and he had to come back I would be charged the service fee. Decided to get it replaced to be safe. Overall not a bad experience. But with all these things...price really throws me off.

Here is the problem we are running into which causes rescheduling to take place. We schedule maintenance calls weeks ahead of current day activity and sometimes the weather changes dramatically before we reach your scheduled date and time. Hotter or colder weather always causes our phones to ring and usually the caller has absolutely no heating or air conditioning. These call do not come in until the morning hours of the day you maintenance call is scheduled, so we have no idea what the call load will be for these types of call. We must prioritize the calls we run daily so we go to the customer who has no heating/cooling first. If your system broke down on you unexpectedly we would put you first in line for service and most likely have to reschedule someone else to help you out in your time of need. We never want to do this but in reality the emergency situation is exactly when you need us most and I pride myself on our ability to take care of all of our service calls on the same day the customer calls in ... that is why we present ourselves as a "Same Day Service" company. I know this does not make you feel any better if you took time off from work to be there for us. I am open to suggestions from everyone to help us find a way that works for you and our other customers. I apologize for the inconvenience we caused you ... I purchased the Angie's List "Hot Deal" from this company to come out and do a 21 point inspection, cleaning, tune up, etc. AS ADVERTISED in the Hot Deal promotion. The price was $69 (a "$297 value" according to Guy Smiths advertisement) and sounded too good to be true. I paid by pay pal yesterday and the techs, John and Phil, came out today. Both were very nice. They went into the attic to inspect the air handler, but I don't believe anything was cleaned. John recommended the UV light for $300, but said the area was "not too bad." (I declined.) John told me the air handler unit was a 1998 model. John said the outside unit (which initially he thought was a 2.5 ton but later verified is a 3 ton unit), is a 1992 model. He checked the freon level and said it was okay. Again, no cleaning of any type was done. The conversation was primarily that I have an "old" system, and "would I like an estimate for a new system?" I agreed and after about 15 minutes I got the estimate. When I got home and looked at the "service call invoice" I noticed that there was no indication of what had been checked (i.e., "21 point inspection"), nor if anything had been cleaned, as advertised. The only thing noted on the "invoice" was that "checked overall operations and components" and "unit is old and can fail at any time." When I went back on Angie's List to look at what others have experienced with Guy Smith Heating and Cooling, I noticed comments made by Ken Smith (to other customers) that made me think that I did not get the "$297 value." Case in point is when Ken mentions that "once the coil is cleaned" by "adding the ultraviolet....the coil would never have to be cleaned again..." Again, John said mine was not "too bad"...and so I don't think he cleaned it, nor anything on the outside unit. I was asked to sign the invoice (tho I had prepaid) because I declined the UV light thing (for "$300.00"). Shouldn't there have been more info provided to me as to what was actually done today. Truly, I feel I paid $69 ("a $297 value"), just to get an estimate for a new system, rather than as a (bargain) preventative maintenance service. I already knew the system was old... After some back and forth conversation, (detailing what I state herein), with Ken Smith and several rescheduling glitches he had a (different) technician from his company come back out after a few weeks, but the only thing done at that time was to wash down the outside unit with some cleaning solution. The tech told me that was what he was insturcted to do. I guess it was worth the $69 for that. Ken told me after our first contact that Angie's List had made a mistake on the Hot Deal advertisement; that Angie's List could not take the ad down; and that any future Angie's List Hot Deal for his company would not include all that was offered in the deal I bought. As they say, "If it seems to good to be true, it usually is."

Work was done satisfactorily-which I expected-in fact I gave the technician a tip at the end. What I didn't expect was to have my carpet heavily soiled by the technician. I specifically requested that he wear shoe protection-or I would provide the shoe protection. The technician had shoe protection-unfortunately FOR ME-the obvious practice of only using shoe protection once and throwing the bootie away is not something that is practiced by the folks at Guy Smith Heating and Cooling-now I'm left cleaning up the mess. Anybody can do this work-its the other things associated with the service call that make for repeat customers.

Brian came out the day I called to investigate why my heater was not working. He showed up on time and was very professional. The news was not great...we had to get a new motor and a few other things. He was very knowledgeable and explained everything to me, he even offered to take pictures with my phone so I could show my husband. The part needed to be ordered and it took a week to get it in...luckily the weather had not quite turned too cold yet. Brian was the one who came out after the part had been ordered and was able to do do all the repairs in only a few hours. I plan to use them in the future, but I was not too happy with the cost...mostly because it was very unexpected! Thanks Brian for getting my heat back on!

We charged you $149 for after hours service and that included the replacement of both capacitors. Not a bad price considering that we even told you that we would apply the entire amount you paid that day towards the motor replacement charges. Regarding the $545 you say you saved ... I do my homework and have concluded that based on actual oem vs aftermarket parts costs ... not even factoring in the costs of running a business and paying all of the overhead expenses that are required for us to be here on a moments notice, like we were for you after hours that Saturday, that you either had a friend perform this repair for you or you had someone doing sidework for you and that maybe they were using used or stolen parts. There is not a single company in town that would ever perform the repair you needed at the price point you claim ... they would be losing money. I do not believe our price was out of line and believe your review is not a true statement of what you really experienced with our company. Overall the experience was positive with Guy Smith. There were some scheduling issues in that the technician and I would agree upon a plan like a date and time but the actual scheduler did not schedule the team per my agreement. Multiple times I had to call the company to inquire as to why people did not show at agreed time. After my system was inspected by the city I immediately called the company with the discrepancies. The gentleman said he would have a guy over that afternoon to rectify matters. I was going out of town later that afternoon and made it clear that I had to leave by a certain time. No one showed to rectify the issues and I received no phone call that no one was coming. It has been almost a week and I still have yet to hear from the company about scheduling a time for them to fix the discrepancies. The issue is still outstanding and when I return back home I will call them. 2/22/2014 - Sorry for the delay. All outstanding issues were taken care of shortly after the above listing. I would definitely use Guy Smith Heating and Cooling again and recommend them also. Lastly, I told the inspector what I paid for the system and he said I got a good deal.
Description of Work: I initially purchased a tune-up off of Angies list. Norm the technician came to the house. I knew my system was old and since I have owned the house 10 years, I have never had either the upstairs or downstairs systems looked at. Norm was very professional. He recommended that I replace the upstairs system. While sitting in his truck he researched a replacement system. His goal was to give me exactly what I needed nothing more. I agreed and he submitted the order and within a week a team came out to take out old system and install a new system. Since part of my yard is in a flood zone my compressor had to be place on a platform. I was out of town when Norm came over to build it but he texted me pictures of the final project. I was pleased and appreciated that he took the time to do that. The city inspector then came over to ensure everything was within code. He commented that I had a new quality system and felt I got a very good deal. He found a few minor discrepancies and those were forwarded to the company and are in the process of being rectified.

I called to make an appointment for someone to come out and give us an estimate on how much it would cost on replacing our old heating and cooling system. We were possibly going to switch to natural gas. The phone was answered with, "how can I make you smile?", or something along those lines, so I thought that thongs were off to a great start. The lady I talked to said she would give the technician, or representative, my husband's number to set up a time to come over. My his said he was contacted the next day and was given a time later that evening for the meeting. Well, needless to say, no one ever showed up, much less called to say why they never showed up, or reschedule, or apologize or anything. How VERY unprofessional! I did not even call them back. I will always tell people about this experience, and make sure people I know don't use this company.

I could not have been more happy with this company. From the office staff, to Mr. Norman, all were professional and helpful. I called on the 9th, and he arrived a few hours later and left in a rain storm to drive back to Norfolk to pick up parts and came back and worked into the night to fix the leak and everything else that was wrong. He left it much better than he found it. He took the time to show me what he was doing and to explain our heater in a way that makes sense to me and that I had not known before. He was kind and courteous, and I told him when he was done that he deserves a raise - and he does! I would recommend him to anyone. I want to also say one thing that sold me on this company when I was looking through the many options on Angie's List was the way Mr. Ken Smith responded to the D and F ratings his company received. I was very impressed by how courteous and personal he was to respond to each complaint. I had looked at other companies that received A ratings but their replies to people's complaints were sarcastic and impatient, but that was not the case for Mr. Smith. It showed me a lot about his character and the character of his company - and I was not at all disappointed. Thank you very much, Norman and Mr. Smith. We will be using you in the future!
Description of Work: Norman came out and replaced our relief valve and pressure-temp gauge on our tankless hot water heater. He also solved the mystery as to why heat had not been reaching half of our house - we have an oil-supplied tankless hot water heater with hot water base-board heat. I'd had other people come out and tell me it was a plumbing issue, then plumbers tell me it was a heating issue. Norman arrived and thoroughly inspected each heater and solved the problem, and for the first time in 7 years of owning our home we are getting good heat to all rooms of the house. He also performed routine maintenance on the heater and replaced several parts including the filter while doing that.

I am impatient at times but I try to follow the golden rule of life ... do the right thing, no matter how much it hurts. When there is a negative review or even when the customer is not submitting a review but they are on the phone with me discussing the problem ... I have to be completely fair to my company and the customer ... I have learned that there are very few customers who believe that any company is perfect. As human beings we make mistakes and can only make a situation worse if we do not accept that fact and move forward by doing the right thing. I purchased the deal 4/18/13, received a call to set up the appt 4/19/13 and was able to get an appt the next day 4/20/13. Chuck was great - very friendly and professional. He thoroughly checked out the furnace and A/C and told me I had a great system and it was working perfectly. He also gave me some valuable information for when I sell my house and purchase another. Right after we purchased the Big Deal coupon, we scheduled the service appointment. The Guy Smith office called later to say they could not keep the appointment, rescheduling it for the following week. They did this THREE times. I had the impression we were definitely not a priority for them. I hope it was not because we were using the coupon. When they finally did come out, they checked the unit, added coolant, and said that additional items on the unit had to be replaced. It ended up costing us more than the original Big Deal price. Since our unit was 15 years old, we asked for an estimate on replacement of the unit. The techs took pictures of the air handler, pointing out why they thought it would be very expensive to replace. We got 2 other estimates from reputable companies, and Guy Smith had the highest estimate. We went with another company for replacement of our system, and it has turned out well.

I was contacted a couple days after purchasing the big deal to schedule an appointment. I was not in a hurry and mentioned I would call back at a later date to schedule a time and date. A few weeks later I called and the appointment was set up easily and conveniently for my time schedule. The technician arrived on time and performed the agreed upon services, he also made suggestions for various upgrades. We chose not to purchase the upgrades and there was no pressure and was an overall easy and pleasant experience.

I enjoyed a thorough discussion of the work to be performed, a reasonable cost estimate that matched other bids, and an installation that although not absolutely perfect in every way, was well done. The installation was longer than expected, but I didn't mind that the chief installer checked behind his helper and corrected a thing or two. The wiring to the thermostat was barely touching on one contact, something I noticed when installing an outdoor sensor a few days later. I recommend getting an established company like this to do new HVAC work since they generally include a year or two of service and a guarantee of their work. Everyone I met with Guy Smith was professional in every way, friendly, and didn't mind me asking lots of technical questions.

I had previously used Advantage Heating and Cooling and I first called them to fix my problem. They said they could not get to me for 5 days. In that heat it would have been unbearable. I looked up another business on your list and they said they could come that afternoon. I was extremly happpy AND COOL!
Description of Work: He checked the outside AC unit and discovered the problem right away. He was awsome. Ants had invaded my unit and messed up the contacts.

I was very please with his professional work ethics and knowledge of the HVAC system for our condo. Service was completed in a little over an hour. We discuss getting an estimate for a more energy efficent HVAC system. We received a call from their sales office and met with them for a detailed estimate. I would strongly recommend Guy Smith Heating and Cooling quality service!
Description of Work: The technician assessed the HVAC problem, run a freon test of and determined our HVAC was low on freon. Recommended servicing and installed a new Thermostat.

We called the company the same day I purchased the coupon and they responded by accepting the coupon, sending a repairman that same day. The repairman was knowledgeable, friendly and not pushy. The repairman took his time to explain all possibilities for repair and provided several written quotes. After he left we check consumer reports for quality of replacement units offered. One of the one's offered was listed as top unit in Consumer Reports (having the fewest repairs). I also invested the cost of units on the internet and found the repair quotes were fair and felt this was a good buy. We decided to purchased a new unit and called the company bad. The same repairman returned and we are scheduled to have the new unit replaced on Wednesday of the next week. This company also offered a discount for Angie's list participants. So far I rate them as excellent

I contacted Guy Smith Heating and Cooling and Electrical after the first company (A rated) who serviced "all brands" would not accept our extended warranty from Amana. I thought the reviews on Guy Smith were fair and contacted them and they accepted our warranty and could get someone out on the same day which I appreciated. Tammy made sure all my paperwork was in proper order so that I would not have to pay parts or labor per my warranty. It was a late service call and the technician Norman C. arrived friendly, professional and ready to get to the task. He maintained his positive demeanor through the diagnosis and repair of the troubled unit and through the maintenance of all 3 units, even through the rain! He wore booties throughout the house which I appreciated. I questioned him about how long he has been with the company and how the employees are trained to stay current. It is a comfort to know that employers appreciate, respect and educate their employees as I prefer to spend my consumer dollars with ethical employers. I even saved $50.00 on my yearly service agreement for 3 units over the initial company I contacted. As expected my repair was no cost due to my extended warranty.
Description of Work: The experienced and qualified technician diagnosed the reason one of our units was not cooling and then serviced all 3 of our units and provided invoice and service agreement paperwork.
