Window & Door Showplace

Doors (Interior) - Install or Replace, Interior Home or Surfaces - Paint or Stain, New Windows - Multiple,

About us

Window and Door Showplace began in 2009 when industry veterans with over 75 years of combined experience, Lynn Pedrotti, Scott Smith and Jason Worrell observed a need for a premier window and door dealer in Northern Virginia. "We understood the variables and obstacles that homeowners, builders and remodelers faced when trying to decide what window and door options were best for them. We felt it was necessary to provide superior windows, doors, hardware and installation services so our community had a complete window and door solution," says Lynn Pedrotti. There are a lot of places to buy low priced replacement windows, but sometimes you need a little more than just a cheap product. Residential and Commercial free In-Home estimates, Showrooms, Samples, Literature, and Post-installation Product Inspections. We also will review drawings and plans and work closely with Architects, Engineers and Designers. We have two beautiful showrooms in the DC and Northern VA area. 6832 Old Dominion Dr McLean, VA 22101 703-752-4748; 44845 Falcon Place Suite 191 Sterling, VA 20166 703-736-9600. I researched my project extensively before hiring Window and Door Showplace.  I wanted a quality door that would not break the bank.  My research indicated that the Marvin door was an excellent product, and Window and Door Showplace was one of the larger companies in the area representing this line.  I also looked at Pella but the on-line reviews for Pella raised a lot of warnings about durability.  Once I called Window and Door Showplace they responded quickly and sent a representative to meet with me the next day.  The sales person was very interested in finding a door to suit our opening, which was not a standard size.  This experience contrasted with another company who sent someone over who kept telling me that "they never advertise and just go by referrals."  He seemed less interested in helping me and wanted me to pursue him for the job!  When Window and Door Showplace came out, they made me feel as if my project was important, even though I only had one door to replace and not an entire house of windows. At the same time, there was no pressure to buy additional windows from them. I really apprecaited that.  The door was delivered within the time frame in which it was promised. The installers were there on time, were very efficient, and cleaned up completely.  All in all an excellent experience and we love our new door.

Most of the work was satisfactory. However the installer failed to properly install the bay window.
As a result, I didn't go forward with the last phase of the project with this company.

Everything went great. They are very professional and very neat. All of the crew was very good at keeping updated on the progress. These are custom made doors so it took a bit of time, but the finished product is gorgeous. I would recommend them highly to anyone.

The service was professional and pleasant from the time of our first meeting until the end of the installation.  About the most painless renovation project that we've had. Everyone we dealt with was great.  We've had some bad window and door experiences with other vendors. This was a pleasure, and the product is very high quality. We worked with Richard in the McLean office and he knows his product, and cares about doing what will work for your house. Our new windows look beautiful and work wonderfully with the style and feel of our home. Highly recommend them.

If you are smart and/or a minority, please don't waste your time.
This company has branches in McLean, Falls Church and Sterling. All are just showrooms and it is a single company.
New windows experience:
My house has some Marvin windows. Couple of panes (not the whole window) lost seal and I also wanted to replace a number of original single pane windows (non-marvin) so I called them for a quote for both. The guy came a bit late. I was expecting someone decent looking based on my experience with high end window companies like Pella and Anderson. He wasn't. He didn't bring sample windows. He didn't have a ladder but some how managed to measure all the windows. He was trying to sell me wood windows and I told him that I am only looking for high end fiber glass or vinyl windows that are maintenance free. They also don't expand / contract like the aluminum cladding on the wood windows. Now a days all the wood windows are made of cheap soft wood (e.g., Pine, Fir). I told him that I have quotes from competitors and want to make a decision soon. He wanted me to come to the showroom. I asked him about fixing the seal and he told me that it will cost several hundred dollars to fix the seal but if I buy windows they may give some discount. I got scared and immediately eliminated Marvin Brand from my list of probables which is a mistake (read about Hodges Marvin dealership in Falls Church in the next section on repair of windows).
Repair of windows experience:
I wrote to Marvin asking them if repairing seal on their windows is really very expensive. Turns out it is not that expensive. I however ended up with a less experienced customer service person. This person asked the partner at Windows and Doors show place to fix the seal. The greedy partner gave me a preliminary quote which I found to be later very high. For instance he quoted me extra for using a simple step ladder. He said super confidently that he can order the right glass without charging me extra for measurement from the purchase order if I send pictures and my measurements. I sent him the picture and measurements but each time I called, he sounded lazy and said that he will get to it. Wasted 2 months of my time but still no final quote. He sent me an harassing email when I inquired via email. I finally realized that this partner may be a racist. I wanted to sue him but didn't want his employees and other partners to suffer because of him. I eventually called their competitor - Marvin Dealer Hodges in Falls Church. Day and night difference, Hodges was very courteous and professional. They recommended using glass repair company to get it done economically and even gave me names. The glass and screen repair company did the repair in record time at a very reasonable cost.
New doors:
When I was talking with the partner on the repair I told him about my need for couple of Patio doors (French doors). I am very honest and told him that I already have competitor quotes and his company has a chance only if it is competitive. He made me measure and said that he will email me an estimate. Needless to say, he never sent me the quote.
Naturally, I ended up going with the competitors.
In summary: If you are smart and/or a minority, please don't waste your time.

To Angies List Staff: If you do advanced search on the company name "window and door showplace" you will see 5 Company Search Results. They need to be consolidated because all are just showrooms and it is a single company. Couple of 'A' reviews seem bogus (they are similar), they need to be verified. Thanks!

Originally, I came to Window and Door Showplace because the company is a Marvin dealer. ( Although I had never heard of Marvin before, my sister in New York had purchased their products for a home renovation and was very pleased with them.)  At the showroom, I met Sean McClellan who became my salesman and was excellent  to work with throughout the entire process, which spanned several months.   Although I had sought  out the expertise of a specialist vendor (as opposed to buying from a big box store)  I did not have a very clear idea of the type of products that I needed to buy.  This was especially true for the window purchase, an important decision compounded by the fact that I planned to use the same type of window style in the enclosed porch (a smaller, older room)  as in the sunroom (a much larger, brand-new  room.)  I met with Sean on several occasions and he  patiently provided pricing information and  answered my questions as I investigated various  window styles.  After working my way through double hungs and  casements,  I finally found the right style for both rooms-- sliding windows.  I then began a second round  of review, investigating window materials such as clad, vinyl, and fiberglass.  The sunroom door purchase was much easier.   Sean suggested the four panel Marvin sliding French doors, which were promotionally priced, beautiful and solid as a tank.  When I compared the Marvin doors (have one in the showroom) against other competitior french doors (also available in the showroom), it was an easy decision --I wanted the Marvin doors!
I would also like to acknowledge the professional service rendered by Window and Door Showplace's technical crew.  When Martin and his crew installed the sliding doors, they spent several hours to set them (this is not surprising given the fact that the doors are 8 feet high and 10 feet wide and the crew had to install each panel separately) However, after they left, we noticed one of the Marvin sliding screens did not slide smoothly.  Luckily for us and them, the screens for the Jeldwin sunroom windows had not come in with the original delivery. The following week, when Wladek came out to install the Jeldwin screens, he also checked the one Marvin screen  and adjusted it.  After he finished his work, Wladek gave me some helpful tips on how to keep the Marvin doors in good shape.
An excellent experience from start to finish!

Our home is in a historic district in Washington, DC so we had some rules and guidelines that had to be meet. The salesman came out to do the initial measurements and promptly got us a quote for replacement, wood insert windows, including a unique 5 window bay on the front of the house who's look had to be strictly replicated.
The Marvin price was higher than their usual competitors', but we had requested a quote based on a special they ran in a magazine ... so the final price was better than their competitors! :)
When we were ready to go they sent our their technical person to re-measure. He raised some questions and issues especially about the bay window. Wanting to be sure they got it right they asked to schedule a third measurement consultation, and during that meeting determined the best way to recreate the look of the old windows, making sure to give us as much light from the new windows as we got from the old leaky windows.
When they installed the windows, especially the unique bay window, I was AMAZED how well the original windows of our late 1920's had been replicated, and how well they fit.
The installation team were two very nice and detail focused guys who worked hard for two and one-half days to install a total of 12 windows. I was a bit unhappy with the interior finish work around the bay window, but the Window and Showplace staff came out to review my concerns within a couple of days. They agreed that some adjustments needed to be made and we scheduled an appointment for their master carpenter to do the work. When he arrived he was FULLY prepared, having precut and primed the pieces of moldings that needed to be fixed. He diligently worked on the modifications that were needed and at the end of the day, no one could have told that we'd had any work done on the interior or exterior of the windows.
Now we have wonderful new windows, some with retractable screens, that we are very happy with. We would HIGHLY recommend the company.
We all know that with any contractor, you have to monitor their work. What I like about the Smith Family's company is that they admit if something isn't perfect and they take pro-active steps to make the work perfect. Marvin Windows are the cheapest but they are the best, and so is this company. Use them ... get them!

I did alot of research on windows that would block sound(live on a busy street) and decided on Marvin.  Contacted Marvin to get the names of dealers in the area( about 2 i think) Set up meetings with both for measurements and estimates.  I was very clear on what i wnated and how I expected the job to be done.  I wanted the contractor to take down all window treatments, remove windows, replace windows and trim and paint all to match existing trim and paint.  I did not want to manage multiple contractors for the different aspects of the job.
Once I received both quotes and they were similar in cost, but not in the understanding of what I was trying to accomplish.  Was able to communicate with Scott and James much better than the other company.
I selected Window and Door Showplace for the job, they showed up when they said they would and did an amazing job.  The job lasted about 2 1/2 weeks from start of install to being complete.  They matched all the inside and outside trim and paint.   They cleaned up everyday, and fixed small issues when pointed out immediatey.  Very professional.
I would use Window and Door Showplace again and would not hesitate to recommend them.
Scott, James, Martin, Gregg, Alberto were fantastic from start to finish.

A horrible experience--still not complete. We ordered the door on August 04, 2011. The first door arrived for installation November 30, 2011. It was not delivered as ordered. For one, the mail slot was placed in a position that does not meet USPS requirements. There were two other significant variances from our original order. These variances were due to mistakes made by the Window and Door Showplace as well as their supplier. They installed that door so that we had something to use and ordered a new one that would correct the problems with the current door. That one arrived for installation February 21, 2012. It also was not as ordered. Apparently Window and Door Showplace has no quality control to check doors as they arrive from suppliers into their facility. Their representative confirmed this saying "We have millions of dollars of product arriving each day. We can't check them all." The next attempt at getting the door correct is scheduled for installation May 8, 2012. This will be a full nine months after our door was first ordered. I reminded the Window and Door Showplace representative of this and he laughed at me. I continually have to call and badger them to get even this level of service. After all of these fiascos, we are still not getting any priority or consideration with Window and Door Showplace. I paid $5400 for this door and expected much better quality control and service. I will never do business with this company again.

They were on time, did what they said they were going to do, and were on time.  They had a tough job, opened up openings for windows, and did a good job.  I would recommend them.  They get high ratings and I will use them in the future.

See above.  It is extremely important that the customer verify the accuracy of every detail of a custom order:  e.g., size, color, types of glass, etc.  We also used our own installer because it was less expensive, but it places more responsibility on the purchaser , so be sure to choose a very knowledgeable installer, especially if dealing with a Jeld-Wen door.

They removed all of the old windows and reinstalled new wooden ones. The work also included painting the interior trim. I was happy with them.
