My HVAC system was still under warranty, but the air conditioner was not cooling the room. This was the second summer that this happened. The first summer the tech put in some refrigerant and pretty much called it a day (except they charged me over $400.00). The company changed hands this year, but they honored my warranty. This time they sent out a fabulous technician -- Mr. Wen Nguyen. Mr. Nguyen was patient and sought out the leak which took him many hours to discover. He replaced a leaking valve that he had to order. I am so thankful for this fabulous technician -- they are not all so talented or willing to spend time finding the problem. In addition, it was covered by my warranty and all I paid for his expertise was the $90 service charge. I wish the technician last year had fixed the problem and not charged me over $400.00. In the future I will ask for Mr. Nguyen.

Snell Heating and Air Conditioning installed a heat pump and air handler in my home on May 30. I have to say I am disappointed. The system recommended by Snell and sold to us apparently is considerably more powerful than our old system and has resulted in a massive increase in noise from our ductwork. The noise created by the new system was such that watching television, holding a conversation in certain rooms, or even sleeping was difficult. Snell’s customer support was a mixed bag. On the good side, when techs were scheduled, they arrived promptly. Other times we were told Snell would “get back to me” on questions, but this did not happen. Sorry – lack of follow-up to a customer’s call is not good customer service. The system install also failed our county’s electrical inspection. It has taken two months and two tries to get anywhere near an acceptable fix to the noise problem. Frankly, I would have given Snell a much lower score than "C", except for the help and advice I got from our last technician, Chris – who was able to accurately diagnose the problem and implement a partial solution. Kudos to him. The system still creates much more noise in the ductwork than I would like, but short of replacing it with something smaller, I don’t see a better solution. We’re OK with the increased airflow and accept the increased noise as an unhappy byproduct. However, I do believe Snell does need to do a better job at sizing their systems or explaining the implications to customers before installation.

The tune-up went well. There service tech pointed out the various things that were working well and the various areas that needed attention. We had an A/C that used the old freon, and the tech educated me on the expiration of the old freon and the options we had for repairs or replacement. Snell is more expensive than other companies, however, I know that I can count on their advice and work. I'd hire them again. We were able to use their spring special pricing for our tune-up.

They showed up on time and installed the system. They were great to work with and very professional. Unfortunately, during the install, they accidentally damaged out water heater (it was a very tight space and this would have been easy to do). Once we brought this to their attention, they immediately and easily agreed to pay for repairs. It is a true measure of a company for how their treat their customers when things go wrong. I look forward to working with them in the future.

They are awful. They told me it will take 6 days and it took four months. They had full access to my house. They fell an inspection. The inspector told them to do it right. Just extremely unprofessional. Advise not to go near them with a 10 ft pole.

I’ve been a Snell customer since 2012. They serviced my last house and I’ve always had a good experience. So when it was time to service the units at my new place I hired Snell. Scheduling was easy and the technician showed up on time. After the service he explained to me that one of my units was low on coolant and that there was either a faulty valve or a leak. That was surprising because my house is just over two years old. He gave me a quote of around $900 to correct this issue. There was a $409 flat fee for refrigerant, $440 in labor, $25 club fee and the cost of any parts required. I declined at the time thinking that the units would be covered our builder. The builder noted I was outside of my warranty and said I could try talking to the company that installed the system. Went back and forth with them with no success. Decided to get a second opinion with another local HVAC company just to make sure there really was a leak. To my surprise the technician that showed up said that there was no leak and the refrigerant level was great on both units. He went through the whole system for over an hour and found NOTHING! I thanked him for being honest and paid the service fee. Snell was dishonest and tried taking advantage of me. They used to be a good company, not sure what happened but you’ve lost my business.

Exceptional knowledge and professional experience provided by Justin Whitesides who determined that my 15 year old HVAC lost 80% of the coolant and there was corrosion around the coils. Justin inspected the 23 year old furnace and found that corrosion was forming and though it was working properly that failure could occur anytime in the future. Justin photographed all of the failed and failing parts so it was never just a matter of personal or blind opinion. Justin explained all of my options as well as comparing replacement systems with the systems that are failed which helped me make a proper and considered choice for replacing both systems with higher SEER ratings, greater efficiency, and better warranties. As a result of Justin's recommendations I chose to upgrade to a Lennox Signature Series with an 18 SEER and a variable blower, which increased the cost considerably but I learned that Lennox will provide a significant rebate that takes the sting out of the price. Furthermore, this upgrade provides greater labor, parts and materials warranties that distance it from lower cost systems thus supporting the theory of pay me now or pay me later. I won't have to deal with this problem again during my lifetime and enhance the comfort of my home both winter and summer.

This was the 2nd year & 3rd company we had come out to address a leaking HVAC unit in the basement. The diagnosis was quick, things were explained plainly to me. We followed their service recommendation ($400) & the problem hasn't recurred this year. They also recommended a better filter system for our older unit ($733) We have 2 fuzzy dogs that shed mounds of hair. They worked quickly, neatly and at an affordable rate . We signed up for their bi-annual maintenance plan.

They made it seem like they were too good for me to do business with them especially if I was being cost conscious. It reminded me of Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman (the scene where she goes to Beverly Hills to buy a dress). After getting over that, they gave their speech about how their products are better than Carrier. How their installation follows best practices where most installers don't. In the end, their upper end system was about $2k more than the Carrier upper end. Their more cost conscious system was comparable (a few hundred more) but it was a Ruud system. They touted their reliability compared to Carrier in Consumer Reports, but if you read the Consumer Reports article closely, it is in the margin of error (+/-3%) so I think they are about the same (and personally even if not right when I resale my home I think buyers will recognize the Carrier name more than Ruud). In the end, I ended up going with someone else. They seemed a little too rigid for my taste and also they could not do all the equipment that I wanted installed without me having to bring in a second contractor. So while they are probably very good, their style and capabilities just did not match my preferences. Comparable contractors would be FH Furr if you want someone else that works like them.

They were very responsive each time. I have a "value based" HVAC system that was in the home when I bought the townhome. They provided prompt and very "educative" service. BUT...it was a very hard sell for a new system each time they came. Each time it was all about the disaster waiting to happen. I found their cost to be high. I severed the contract and the system is continuing to work adequately.

Had Snell come out to inspect one of my A/C systems. They confirmed the system was not salvageable and would need a full replacement due to age and condition. We had a slight hiccup in communication with the company early in the transaction process which was no big deal I thought, simple mistake. I mention this, not to cast a negative light on the company but instead to say that they had gone above and beyond to make up for the simple oversight to win my trust because that is just what great companies do. Everyone whom I had contact with from the initial Technician who did the diagnostic to the system engineer (one **** of a guy) who was extremely patient with me to teach me everything I needed to know to make an educated decision on which system would be best for me, to the installation technicians who did the work so fast and efficiently with not one bit of mess left behind, to the front office staff who were so friendly who helped me finalize payment. I will not hesitate to use them again as they have more than proven to me that they really care about their customers and will go above and beyond with their customer service. I'm very happy I used them.

CO alarm went off 1/17/19. According to Loudoun Fire and Rescue I had 50 ppm. Shut down water heater and furnace, since source seemed to be near my utility room. Called around for help. Snell was the only company that bothered to call back. Lloyd Boyd came by the next day, on time, brought everything back online systematically, testing for carbon monoxide throughout the procedure. He tightened some exhaust connections and pronounced me CO free. So far so good. Although no obvious source presented itself, Lloyd was great and Snell gets high marks for professionalism.
