It went smoothly however since they brought along a replacement hot water heater we were not given a choice of type. I was told that it was a higher quality than what I had. I was not shown the specific problem but was just given the imression that is was not a problem that could be fixed. I was going to go back and ask about the specifics but I did not because it was already a done deal.

They were really good too. I really don't know how much they charged me. The price was very reasonable. The air filter was gone in for free and it was a really nice one. They were very knowledgeable and were able to fit the problem on the spot, because they were originally going to put this furnace in the way it was supposed to be put. That didn't work for our area; so he had to re rig it on the spot and it worked.
Description of Work: We just got a new furnace put in through John Nugent & Sons on the 27th September 2010.

It went better than anticipated. Thought I was going to be without hot water for 1-2 days. As it turned out, it was replaced within 5 hours! All I had to do was supply the representative on the phone with the make and model of the old heater (he even told me where to look for the tag) and the workers arrived with the new heater with 20 minutes of scheduled time...they were early.
Description of Work: Water heater originally installed by Nugent 12+ yrs ago sprang a leak. I called in the early AM and the new heater was installed by mid PM. Plus had a new heat thermostat installed. Workers and person on phone were extremely courteous, prompt and neat, Highly recommend,

The humidifier system in our house wasn't working so we called Nugent and Sons. Fast response after our call and he was out to us the next morning. The humidifier needed some parts to be ordered but this was quickly done. Three days from call to finished job. These guys were great; fast, courteous and able to handle a remote credit card payment (I was away on travel). Definitely recommend them.

We had two other contractors doing other work tell us we should replace our 12 year old water heater when asked about the pipes. Nugent and Sons assured us our water heater should be fine for a few more years and fixed the leaks.
Description of Work: Pipes in and out of water heater had a lot of build up on them and very slow almost unnoticeable leaks.

I called Nugent & Sons at 8am on a Saturday, and they were very nice and responsive. The technician arrived at 10am, and did a thorough inspection. At that time, he thought that the board, which is an expensive part, may need to be replaced. However, after a second inspection Nugent & Sons advised me that a less expensive part was the actual culprit. I really appreciate their honesty. They could have easily charged me for the more expensive part. Also, I have an elderly parent that lives with me, so my house being cold was a major concern. Nugent & Sons were very flexible and rearranged their schedule to get me heat as soon as possible.

I emailed the John Nugent & Sons regarding a gas line issue. They called me back early the next morning and with their expertise over the phone they answered all my questions and determined that I actually really didn't need any work done. The receptionist was kind, helpful and professional. I will call them in the future for sure when I do have work to be done.

I spent $399 for that job. They were very courteous on the phone when I was setting up the appointment. They explained what they were going to charge and were able to respond quickly to send someone out in the afternoon. They offered to call me at work when they were on the way. They showed up when they said they were going to show up and provided an efficient service. They were very clean. They took care and made sure they did not make a mess in the kitchen. They were polite and explained what they were doing and let me know what was working and what was not. It was a professional interaction.

Noticed the house getting colder and saw that the thermostat was not operating. Called Nugent and Sons based on Angie's List at 11:00 and was given an estimated time of between 12-4. At 11:45 they called and said the technician would arrive within 30 minutes, which he did. Lloyd quickly determined that the problem was a blown fuse, which he replaced. He then looked over the system. I had confidence in the work and the responsiveness, so I said I would like to start an annual maintenance contract. He performed the maintenance, describing every detail to me, and got the humidifier operating again. Lloyd was always cheerful, careful to wear shoe slippers, offered good advice, and was pleasant and professional.

Water heater and humidifier installations were a week apart. Both were scheduled for a tech or plumber to arrive between 8-10 AM and both times they arrived in that range. This was great to A) be given a 2 hr window vs 4-8 hr windows as I have received from other contractors and B) for the employees to show up within that window! Both times I was called to be notified that the tech was on his way, not a call from the tech or plumber himself and that he was waiting at my door! It's nice the company realizes that my time is worth something! Water heater replacement was done very professionally by Troy, who is a very knowledgeable and experienced plumber. I had initially called the company who installed the original water heater back in 1996. They were busy for at least one week and I could not wait that long for hot water! John Nugent & Sons were able to schedule a next day installation, so I took a chance based on the positive reviews here in Angie's List. They are my new plumbers and HVAC team. Not only did they come out the next day but they beat the pants off their "competitor" (my former HVAC folks) by several hundred dollars. For those of you reading who have this type of water heater, it is much more expensive than your standard one (my type runs $1600 and up, most folks have one that costs under $1000 installed). The new water heater is more energy efficient, and quieter (induction fan noise has been reduced in the newer models). So I am not only pleased with the product, I am pleased with the manner (and speed) in which I was treated. Almost a ditto experience with the Humidifier. I am very picky about how things are done in my house so I wanted to see how they performed with the water heater before moving on to replacing my leaking humidifier (all of these things started going at the same time!). This task being lower priority was scheduled a week after the water heater. Remember, these contractors only have so many on staff and this time of year there are numerous "no-heat" calls that get priority. Still, one week is much better that prior HVAC company who told me they would call me "sometime when they had some downtime". The sales guy actually admitted to me that "we don't make much money on this so they are not a priority". I don't think I would ever tell a customer that. Well, that is why I switched to John Nugent & Sons. They scheduled the day with the same 8-10 AM window and the tech arrived at 9:45 AM - and that was after I received a call from the dispatch indicating he was on his way. Oh and did I tell you that I saved $75 from what the other guys were charging - with an indefinite wait period! John Nugent & Sons has coupons at their web site for many of these types of service. The other guys, well they have a web site (and a not very well done one at that). There was a small issue (nothing major or threatening) with the humidifier install that needed attention and the tech came back out a few days later - this time between the hrs of 7 - 9 AM and was there close to 7:30 AM and had things configured properly and was out - no charge. These folks seem to get the concept of customer service. I hope your experience is equal to or better than mine.

We noticed water standing under shrubs next to the foundation at the front of our home recently. I called Nugent to investigate and recommend a solution. I had used Nugent and their master plumber Danny Reddick for previous work on an unrelated plumbing matter. As I had anticipated, the problem was due to a leaking main water supply line into our home (after eliminating the other two possible sources of water in this area). The existing water line was buried at least 10-12 feet underground so it was not prudent to attempt to find that line and determine where it was actually leaking. It was decided that the best course of action would be to replace the entire length of supply line (about 150 feet). The work was scheduled for the following week after Miss Utility could mark all the underground utilities in the yard. The work involved excavating a 150 foot trench, disconnecting our existing water line, installing and connecting a new water line to the home. It also involved navigating around underground irrigation supply lines and sprinkler heads, underground wiring for outdoor lighting, an asphalt circular driveway, a brick paver walkway, a water fountain, and multiple shrubs and other plantings. This work was undertaken during cold weather and in very wet and muddy ground where the water had been leaking for quite some time apparently. Needless to say this was not an easy or a pleasant assignment for the Nugent crew. At our request, Danny Reddick was responsible for doing the work. He and Julian from Nugent worked seamlessly with the folks from Five Star Septic who handled much of the excavation work. The excavation involved both a small tracked backhoe and hand digging in sensitive areas. Needless to say we were very concerned about the damage this work was likely to cause. There is no way a job this extensive and in such a heavily landscaped area could be undertaken without damage. We are convinced that Danny and his team did everything in their power to minimize disturbance and damage to our yard. They tried repeatedly to bore under the driveway to minimize excavation work but kept encountering unseen barriers underground. The worked until late into the evening to be sure that we had water before they left that night. We were amazed at their determination to finish this work before leaving. And it was almost 11 PM before the installation was finished and initial backfill of the trench was completed so there would be no freezing problems overnight. . The next morning they returned to complete the backfilling work. They also replanted virtually all the shrubs that had to be removed. They leveled and raked the beds and yard to return our property to as original condition as possible. They also repaired two small sections of irrigation pipe that were inadvertently damaged during the excavation and reburied the electrical wiring and replaced the fixtures in our outdoor lighting that were affected in the work area. They cleaned up the inside of our home as well where they had to bore through the foundation and connect the new water line to our existing system inside the house. The basement looks just as it did before they arrived. Our yard definitely looks like it has been worked in and we will have to do some re-sodding and landscaping next spring. But, we are amazed at how little damage was actually done in completing this very intensive project. It speaks volumes about the professionalism and care that Nugent and its employees (Danny and Julian) and its subcontractors (Five Star Septic) bring to their work. We couldn't be happier with this work and will definitely hire them again if the need for plumbing work arises.

The technician was nice to work with and was very knowledgeable and professional, but he did flood my HVAC closet and also leaked water into my neighbor's HVAC closet. It was kind of a huge mess, but he handled it well (and apologized a lot) and did his best to clean up the mess. He did ultimately make the A/C run better, so I guess it was worth the trouble. I was glad that he didn't try to sell me a new A/C system even though my system is 25 years old.
Description of Work: My A/C was not cooling very well so I called this company to see what the problem was. The technician noted that the coils were very dirty and recommended cleaning them. He climbed up a 3-story ladder with a hose and sprayed it out.

They were fantastic. Very professional and their installers really took the time to do the little things to clean up after themselves and did a wonderful job overall. It has been a little more than a month since the work was performed and everything is working great. I will absolutely call on John Nugent and Sons again if I need work done on my HVAC system.
Description of Work: I needed a new furnace , air conditioner and water heater for a new home I purchased. The gas furnace in the home was over 30 years old in a location that was extremely difficult to access. I had 4 companies come out and take a look at options for relocating the furnace and replacing the water heater and air conditioning unit. John Nugent and Sons gave me the best proposal for doing the work and seemed the most knowledgeable. They placed my new furnace in the crawlspace under my home, ran new ductwork, replaced my water heater, air conditioner, and installed a new thermostat. It was a huge job.

While it was annoying (and cold) to go without hot water for a couple days, Nugent got out as soon as they could. I probably could have gotten a company associated with one of the box stores out that Saturday, but based on research (including here on Angie's List) I had little confidence of how well that would work out. So, while I no doubt paid more than I could have, I feel pretty confident the job was done very well and I have a quality hot water heater. Everything about the way Nugent operated for this job (and indeed every other time I've used them for plumbing) was professional and pleasant...the Nugent installer spent alot of time with me on the phone Saturday (before I had even decided to go with them) helping me understand what was needed (which the other companies I was talking to could not do).
Description of Work: Nugent came out the Monday following our weekend hot water heater disaster (water all over finished basement) and replaced our hot water heater. They replaced a 14-year old gas water heater with a new gas water heater, additionally installing code required ventilation and plumbing stuff.

Nugent did not have regular dealings with the manufacturer of the broken fan motor, and it look about 4 tries for them to get the correct part from the company. First they appeared to have sent the wrong motor, then left out an adapter, then sent a defective motor. Although the experience was very frustrating for us as well as for Nugent, I really appreciated the determination of Nugent's service manager, Walter Lynn, to keep on calling the manufacturer to get the matter straightened out. When the repair came down to the wire and we were about to leave on vacation the next day, he arranged to have a generic motor installed that would restore AC until we got back into town (we were leaving geriatric pets at home, so this was important to us). Nugent probably lost money on the repair, given all the house calls and office time it involved. We are grateful that they were willing to go the extra distance to get this problem solved.
Description of Work: The fan motor on our high energy H/AC system broke for the second time in 4 years, leaving us without AC in the middle of a heat wave. We had switched to Nugent after becoming dissatisfied with the company than originally installed the system, and Nugent (eventually) replaced the motor for us.
