After 15 years, it was time to get a new AC system. We had been using another HVAC company for maintenance and repairs to entire central system for the past ten years. While they did good work, every time they were here they tried to sell us something. THEN, The AC went down for good - the tech called a supervisor who came out and confirmed the demise of the compressor. He then provided us a quote on the spot that seemed rather pricey - we said thank you and we would be back in touch. Now it was time to sign up for Angie's List - which we did. The choices were many, with highly qualified companies. We contacted six companies - one didn't show, and one didn't log our appointment into their system (that's called sales prevention). From the other four, each one had a competitive price, which was almost HALF of what our current HVAC provider tried to sell us on! You can imagine that conversation - I digress. Of the four, we really liked John Nugent and Sons, which was represented by Andy - he did a great job explaining what they would do, and also mentioned that we didn't need a new furnace at this time! Can you imagine that? We were sold on Andy and the company. All of this happened to be during the last week of August 2011 - all 100 degree days here in Mount Vernon...it was painful. Andy came out with window units to help us at least get through the nights.Installation was thorough, and we are now enjoying the benefits of a new system.

I wasn't impressed with the service provided. The tech did some basic checks of the system and said that everything was working fine. He made some basic recommendations like using less restrictive air filters instead of the 3M Filtrete filters, add an attic fan, etc. I asked two questions that he was going to ask Trane but I have not heard anything back. I had another company come out a week later and found out the unit needed more refrigerant and the TX Valve replaced. After the other company fixed the problem the unit runs less often and the temperature difference between floors was only a few degrees instead of the 10 degree difference we were seeing up till that point.

Great! Serviceman was punctual, thorough, and did not try and sell me a bunch of stuff I didn't need. Cleaned unit which was really dirty once he took the cover the cover off. Also quickly diagnosed issue. Told me two issues - 1) the cover was rattling and not to worry about that and 2) that compressor sounded like it was starting to go bad (thought something may have broken loose inside). Took me outside and pointed out the different issues. Tested performance of unit and noted that at the current point in time it was working fine (within specs) and that there was no reason to do anything at this point in time. Said he didn;t know how long the unit might continue working but to just keep running it. Amazing - he didn't try to tell me it needed to be replaced then. I will definitely call them back whenever the unit finally goes in the future.

I called John Nugent and Sons to replace a traditional tank style hot water heater (A.O. Smith 50-gal.) that failed after less than 2 years of operation. They installed the original HWH in Feb. 2010. The HWH was still under warranty so I did not have to pay for a new one. However, I did pay labor ($500) because it was more than one year since the original was installed. Installation of the new heater by Troy and his helper went fine and took 30 min. I have no complaint with the installers, who were knowledgeable, courteous, and efficient. Rather, I'm annoyed with having to pay the same labor charge for the same component 2 years in a row. I sought price relief and I didn’t ask for much. I presented a discount coupon from Angie’s list for John Nugent and Sons valid through 8/24/11 which states “$50 off new hot water heater installation.” Back in the office, the plumbing manager refused to honor the coupon. He said the original HWH install had already been discounted by $50 (true). To my way of thinking it’s a gray area – I had to pay new labor charges because it was more than one year out. Why shouldn’t I be able to benefit from another coupon (again, a new install more than one year out)? And, by the way, a HWH should last for years. $500 for 0.5 hr seems like a really high labor rate. (Yes, that is $1,000 per hour, which is equivalent to the combined average wages of four neurosurgeons.) The new HWH is identical to the old one (same connections, pipe sizes, etc.) and it was a simple matter to swap the old one for the new one. Considering this and the extenuating circumstances, I was expecting at least a small amount of wiggle room, but JN&S was totally inflexible. Not what I was expecting from this company.

I got an an appointment on the same day I called and another call from the provider in advance of the technicians arrival. I learned a lot about my system and how to better maintain it. I received excellent service from a highly professional organization.

Nugent and Sons is a fantastic company. Andy Popovici came out to estimate the job and provided me with options for exactly what type of system I was looking for and within my price point. He explained options, made excellent suggestions, did not try to push a system I didn't want, and highlighted cost saving options I had not considered. This was not my experience with other estimates from other companies. Nugent's pricing came in $4000 cheaper than other estimates. I chose them and was not disappointed. They did a quick, clean, efficient install and up until now, the system works great! I have a new Rheem AC, furnace, and condensation pump that does exactly what I wanted it to do. I highly recommend this company if you are looking for honesty, a quality product, fair pricing and responsive service.

This is the best HVAC contractor experience I've ever had! They live up to their high-rating on Angie's. They came out to fix our water heater which kept shutting off and not producing hot water. Like contractors we've had in the past, they could have bilked us for a thousand dollars plus phantom parts, come out numerous times with scare tactics and we'd be sitting ducks. The problem? It was simply dusty! The repairman simply washed the filter in the sink, educated us on how to vacuum and dust critical parts, understand how it works, and offered to come back to vacuum it with a special part that reaches deep inside the unit. I took my shopvac to it - it's going to need another round of professional services from John Nugent and Sons and we're planning on calling them for ANYTHING that goes wrong with our water heater, heating and air conditioning problems! We have duct work problems and we've spent thousands of dollars with very high utility bills on the Rube Goldberg contraption our builder put in to save money. It's been a nightmare. Not sure why we weren't billed even though the problem was minor because it still cost them time. The bottom line for us is simple: We'll be calling ONLY this company when we have ANY problems with heating, air-conditioning, ducts, vents, etc. Fantastic service. Family owned. No bureaucracy or non-sense with this company. They demonstrate that honesty, hard-work, quality, standing by their work are all you need to rise to the top. Can't say enough good things about them.

Troy came to our home on two occasions. The first to perform repairs to plumbing and gas lines required by home inspection. He was helpful in selection of a new hot water heater - even changing the minds of the prospective buyers as to the correct appliance. On second trip he and an assistant delivered and installed the hot water heater. He was great to work with The old hot water heater left a lot of rust behind as it was removed and Troy cleaned up quite a mess and left the area in good condition.

I got three estimates for this work. They gave me the best deal for the work. They came in as the best. They came in less than everybody did. I got a discount from Angie's list. I got an excellent warranty for 10 years. I got a humidifier with my system. I got so much more from them. I got value, great price, and great warranty. I got a service contract with them. The energy efficiency of the model I got is 16. There was no question as to whom I would go with. The financing was also pretty good. I would recommend them.

They seemed okay and they were good. We spent $89 for furnace maintenance. They came over and they did fine. They did exactly what we asked them for. There wasn’t really anything in particular that jumped out either way.

They came out to my house on Apr 12 to do maintenace to my A/C, and I called them this past Friday (7/15) to tell them that the A/C is not working, and the SP said that "its too bad because your outside the 30 days". When I called back to tell them that Angie's List said it was kit picking. They SP denied that they said that to me. So I have them come out and I pay them $95. Then they said the money would go to the repair to the unit if there was a repair, and now they're saying it won't. Because the unit was frozen over when they came on Friday. They are coming out again today, but they will not credit the $95 to repair and that's not what they told me. Again I spoke with the mgr and again he denies it. Every step you take with them is a step back. So when I called them on Friday he said he would call Angie's List and tell them their policy. They're whole way of thinking is dishonest.

Everything has been excellent. I have an annual contract with this company. They are honest and trustworthy. I would recommend this company to anyone.

We have used them several times and they are very good. They do excellent work.

I had water in my basement. I turned off the main water and could still hear water running. I then turned off the a/c, and it stopped. Since it was a holiday weekend, I called on July 5, and got an appointment for July 6. Lloyd, the technician, arrived promptly, flushed out the line and performed a system check-up. The whole visit took an hour. I will definitely call them again, and highly recommend them.

The plumber called ahead and arrived in the agreed upon time. He was a very friendly guy and started the work to remove the old water heater right away. He noticed that our valve was out of code and would be an extra charge. The charge for that seemed reasonable. The old unit was removed and the new installed in about 90 minutes. I was very pleased with them and would certainly hire them again and recommend them. We also signed up with them for a HVAC service contract.

He chaecked several things but only needed to add coolant. He arrived when scheduled, seemed very knowledgeable, and didn't try to talk me into services I didn't need. I'm happy.

I would definitely use Nugent & Sons again. The tech who came out was very knowledgeable and quickly figured out what was wrong. Because the system was frozen, it could not be fixed immediately, but the company was able to schedule a convenient appointment for later the same day after the system had thawed out. The system is working great since it was repaired.

They are excellent to work with. They were responsive, timely, and polite. The guys were all great. I will definitely use them again.

I scheduled an appointment with Nugent, because they had performed maintenance service on our old unit. The guy showed up on time. He took a quick look at the unit under the roof, never asked any questions and said he would send a proposal via email. he said that they were very busy and that if I accepted their proposal I would have to wait 3 weeks for an installation date. The proposal never arrived, which was sort of unprofessional. The other two companies I invited to give me an estimate, did a much more professional job. Both noticed that my returns and the soft ducts leading to the unit were undersized and needed to be replaced (something that had been pointed out by a home inspector previously). They also counted the number of vents concluding that are unit was undersized for the number of vents we have (this also had been pointed out to me previously, and was one of the reasons our upstairs never got really cool). Only one of the other two companies identified that and they are the ones who got the business.

It was easy to schedule the appointment with the dispatch staff, who were very helpful. The technician, David, was pleasant and professional. His diagnosis was spot-on and the repair was rapidly made. I was concerned that it would be a major repair and was pleased that it was less than $200.

My AC was not working, the tech came out the same day, and managed to fix the problem quickly. Very happy with the quality service.

Very well. When contacted a professional "estimator" came within a day or two. Price was promptly quoted and follow up questions answered. Once we agreed, an installation technician did his work and, since we were flexible on installation dates, we were able to be serviced quickly due to an unanticipated opening in the company's schedule. The installation crew worked efficiently and left the house tidy.

I didn't have a definite problem with our A/C. I personally thought it could be a little cooler and maybe needed some freon. I called them up and they were able to send someone over 3 days later, which was fine since we didn't have an emergency. Overall, things were fine. Serviceman was great. He did arrive late, but they did call to let me know. I would call them again if we have a future issue.

Everything went great. I had no complaints.
