Our rep arrived on time, was polite, professional and knowledgeable. I had a leak under the kitchen sink. I called the service on Sunday to report it. My husband used plumber's tape to temporary seal them until the plumber arrived. I do feel the rate was a little expensive. I suppose the company charged me an emergency rate even though it was not an emergency.
Description of Work: The plumber called back on Sunday to investigate the call and asked me questions regarding my call. The plumber assessed this was not an emergency and instructed me to call back on Monday morning and set up an appointment. The call representatives said the plumber would arrive Tuesday between 10 am-2 pm. The plumber did not arrive until ~4 pm. He assessed the issue to be a hot and cold water line leak that needed to be replaced. This took approximately 45 minutes. The plumber was professional. He explained to problem and quickly fixed the problem.

I called for someone to come and fix my broken gas furnace, and was told they would send someone over between 12-4. Four rolled around and no one showed. At 4:15 they called me to tell me the service guy was running late (really?!) and that he would be at my house between 4 and 6. At six o'clock, I received a phone call from the technician telling me he was 30 minutes out. I told him he was no longer needed, as he had already wasted 6 hours of my time. Completely unprofessional, and they caused my family to be without heat for another night.
Description of Work: Absolutely nothing besides waste my time.

I was pleased. The serviceman showed up wearing a uniform so I could identify him. He put covers on his shoes as he entered the house. He was able to determine the problem quickly. He spoke good English and communicated well so I was able to understand what he'd found and the solutions for the problem. In my case the problem was actually the thermostat and not the furnace. Apparently it had a problem and was telling the furnace to produce air conditioning instead of heat! I had already planned to replace the basic thermostat with a smart one for energy savings and had the thermostat I'd purchased on hand. He got that installed and everything was working again very quickly. Thank goodness too, because we are experiencing a cold snap just two days later and I'm glad I didn't have to worry about pipes freezing! Then he told me that he could charge me for the visit ($170) or he could charge me for a maintenance plan for 1 year (2 maintenance visits to make sure everything is working for summer/winter) for only $29 more (total of $199). Yes it was an up-sell, but it was respectfully done and politely explained. I went ahead and took the maintenance plan. One thing I should note. When I called and set up the appointment, I'd asked about installing the new thermostat. It is a "Nest" and some companies don't install them. I was told that they do install them. The serviceman informed me that although he could install it, he was not able to PROGRAM it for me and in fact would not be able to provide any info about programming it. Since I'm a Computer Specialist, this wasn't a problem for me. However if you want someone who will not only install but will program a Nest thermostat be sure to ask in advance.

Unreliable. After more than 20 years of working this company, I'm changing providers. There is a trend for the company to cancel appointments the day of the service appointment due to technicians calling in sick. But two cancellations within 5 weeks (November 27, 2013, and January 6, 2014) due to technicians calling in sick is too much. There is a lot of turnover in the technicians (6 different technicians servicing the system over the past 5 years even though requests were made to keep the same technician.) In November, the technician doing a regular check did not consider using a more sophisticated amp meter to confirm a high amp draw, nor did the technician point out the accumulated dirt on the blower wheel and recommend cleaning the wheel after he observed the wheel being out of balance. However, he did provide a quote to replace the inducer motor and to replace the blower wheel. A noisy vibration started to occur on the day of that servicing. A second opinion was requested of the company. The second technician fixed the vibration problem with a stabilizing ba. He noted that the blower wheel had some dirt on it and cleaned it, and he used a more accurate amp inductive Multimeter to determine that there was, indeed, no problem with the amp draw.
Description of Work: After coming out to provide a second opinion on the condition of the furnace (high Amp draw, blower wheel out of balance, and very noisy vibrations that started the day of the original servicing), the second technician recommended cleaning the blower for $240. Using a more sophisticated inductive style Multimeter, the amp reading was normal. The technician installed a stabilizing bar to stop the noisy vibrations.

The gas hot water heater in the basement of our home started to leak very late on Christmas Eve. We called a plumber that we knew named Troy, who now works for John Nugent and Sons. John Nugent and Sons gave us their first appointment available due to the lateness of the call and the holiday closing. Troy and another plumber arrived promptly as the first call in the morning with the new heater and all of the supplies needed to complete the job. They did an excellent job installing and checking the tank, as well as installing the drain pan. All work was cleaned up and completed in a timely, polite, and efficient manner. A generous guarantee on the hot water heater automatically comes with John Nugent and Sons. I would highly recommend Troy and the John Nugent and Sons Company.
Description of Work: The provider finished draining and removing the old heater, then installed a new 50 gallon gas hot water heater. A drain pan was also installed.

We did not have any heat because our safety switch had expired. They came on a Thursday and diagnosed the problem and ordered the part. The part was installed early Saturday morning to our great relief.

The technician was prompt and efficient. He called before he came, he hooked up the washer and dryer, and left. I thought the price was high, however he did not try to sell me other products or services, which is a big plus for me.

Thanks Nugent and Sons. We had scary sounds coming from our pipes this weekend and were fearful they would burst. We were using Nugent & Sons for a first time and though the agent on call said this probably could wait until Monday and though he already had several clients booked for the weekend, he found a way to fit us in. They worked with us to price match after we received four other bids. We liked them so much that we now have a yearly contract with them so they can come check our other unit periodically. We will definitely use them again due to their excellent customer service.

Before you read the review, note that I do recommend them to others. I will call of them again, when I need a quote for any work they do (HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc...) I needed a new HVAC system installed in my home. I researched local companies, both large and small. I ended up getting 4 quotes for the exact same work and the exact same Carrier equipment. I tossed out the highest and lowest quotes given the obvious differences from what I expected and after discussion with the people who came out to quote the system. (One was very obnoxious and rude, the other seemed clueless and the 5th I would have gotten did not even bother to follow up with us with a proper quote....) For all of the companies, I made it clear what was expected in terms of quality products (but not the highest priced with bells and whistles that I will not use or need) as well as the current comfort issues of extreme temperature variations from the basement to the upper (3rd) level. The system is: Carrier comfort 13 seer AC Carrier infinity furnace Carrier infinity control Honeywell media filter Aprilaire whole house humidifier The good: - Nugent's was NOT the cheapest, but they were the most thorough in working through the project details. - The estimator we worked with is a former HVAC tech and knows not only the "business" but the technical aspects. - As I said, they were the most thorough. They spent a few hours in the home looking at the ductwork, the mechanical supporting aspects (gas, electrical outlets, reworking any other items for the new system in the mechanical closet where the furnace is installed). - The listened to what I wanted vs. what they wanted to sell. The asked questions about the current comfort levels on all 3 levels of the townhome. They provided advice for modifications for adding ductwork and also which equipment would work the best based on our criteria. With all the advice and suggestions, were technical details supporting why and how the modifications would work to fix the issues. - The job was a 2 day job. They brought in what I would call the "A" team. They had a pair of techs working in the basement and in the attic or a total of 4 techs (additional ductwork to resolve the upper level issues). They were very coordinated and in step with each other. - The estimator \ PM showed up at the beginning of the install. Walked through everything and helped with some aspects of the install. After he left, he checked in and followed up at the end of the day. - After they had the old system out, they found a couple of unexpected issues including some damaged ductwork in the walls and the need to re-route some electrical work and piping for a bathroom exhaust that was damaged when the original unit was installed 13 years ago. In addition, there were a few other small things they found. The "good" is the fact that they just fixed the issues and told me about it when I checked in with them. No additional charges, etc.... I would have expected some additional charges in most circumstances, as the work was clearly out of scope for the project but was related. Instead of haggling, they just did what needed to be done. - The technical guys were very explicit and willing to answer all questions, without any attitude or short answers. In addition, they took the time to explain all facets of the install and the "why" they did some of the things they did to make the system perform at peak capability. ( I will spare you the details, but if you are "particular" like I have been told I am, you will appreciate the overall attention to detail). - No pushy sales. No overselling. - They were very respectful of my home. Kept all spaces cleaned and protected with drop cloths, a vacuum cleaner and broom. They always asked before moving anything and put everything back as it was, with no issues. I say this is "good" since I have hired contractors for other things in my home and some do not act with the same amount of respect the techs from Nugents gave to me and my home. - Everyone speaks English. Why is this "good"? Well, it can be intimidating and concerning when you are in your own home and the workers running around in your home do not speak English and\or walk around and in front of you speaking a language you do not understand, etc... The bad: - Promptness and punctuality are important. Specific to pre-sales and coordination before the job, I had to wait what I consider to be an unacceptable amount of time on more than one occasion for communication from them, including having to wait multiple hours for them to meet with me before I signed the contract. For example, a 5pm appointment does not mean arrive at 8pm. Yes, we are in NOVA (traffic, etc...) and yes, they did communicate that they would be late and\or ask to change the time. The issue was it was a call at 4:45pm that they would not be there until 8:00pm. I discussed this with them, they were very apologetic and got better. I would, however, be remiss if I did not share the good and bad aspects. It was obviously not a show-stopper but something you should be aware of, etc... - Communication. They need to improve their communication. I had to call them multiple times to get them to schedule the job! I offer this as constructive criticism, as when they do communicate, they are both professional and respectful. I speculate that they are understaffed in back office support and sales, which I expect in the current economic climate. The ugly: - Nothing really up to this point. I will say that they are still on the hook for the AC testing in the spring. They were unable to test the AC due to current temps outside (20 to 30 degrees in January). Overall: B+ - Quality service - Patient, respectful and friendly - Competitively priced - Attention to detail is obvious - Went over and above what I have come to expect in dealing with contractors in NOVA. Finally, I did not "go to provider's location". The work was performed in my home. (See below)

The folks at John Nugent & Sons are always very upbeat, pleasant and helpful. This is the second time we used them to service a problem with our HVAC. Both times we were able to get speedy service. The tech calls about 30 minutes before arriving, they wear the little booties on their shoes so they don't track any dirt onto your floors, and both of the techs we've interacted with were very professional and also very pleasant. And their prices are fair.

I had a fantastic experience with the team from Nugent and Sons. The installers (Joe, R.J., and Marcus) did a top-notch job, were friendly, professional, knowledgeable and the like. We are very happy with the equipment they installed and how they handled the whole process from start to finish. They were flexible and handled my many special requests cheerfully. I interviewed and obtained bids from six different companies and found Nugent to be the best "mix" They had the right equipment, their reviews on Angie's List and Yelp were outstanding, and their price was the best. I spent hours and hours researching equipment options, brands and providers - and ultimately settled on using Nugent and Sons. Glad I did.

Our Air conditioner wasn't working in the summer and we called Nugent and Sons based on Angie's list reviews. They came out quickly and diagnosed the problem correctly (needed to recharge the coolant). The cost of the coolant was very high as they have stopped manufacturing it,but the service was good. We signed up for a maintenance plan. So it was roughly $350 for the coolant and labor, and $350 for an annual contract that covered two A/C-furnace units. They came out around September and did the maintenance. Very friendly and effective. Pricey, but you get what you pay for.

I had another plumber (not Nugent) come out and quote me a very high price to fix a leak. I then had Nugent come out and quote a price to correct the problem which was considerably less. The solution he found didn't involve tearing out tiles in my tube or expense work, just a new small part. It worked beautifully! The plumber I worked with was extremely cordial and professional. So much so I asked for him again when I needed a new hot water tank installed. I highly recommend them!
Description of Work: I had them come out two different times. One time to fix a leak in my bathroom and another time to replace my hot water heater. Both times I was extremely pleased with the plumber, the work done and the price.

Extremely satisfied. Courteous on the phone, gave time range same day of when technician would show, clear on cost. Technician called ahead of time to say when he would be there, determined the cause, gave a clear estimate to repair, and fixed it in one visit. Very prompt.
Description of Work: Determined cause of high water alarm in waste sump system, cleared problem, reset portion of system installed improperly to begin with.
