So, this was a difficult service to rate, because in the end the service I called for wasn't actually done. But I had to give them an all around conditional positive because they owned up to it and refunded the charge without a big fight. I have a geothermal furnace; one night it had a trouble light. My regular guy - who had installed and serviced it for the past 10 years or so - wasn't answering his phone, so I called Nugent the next day (Friday). Their website said they handled geothermals, the lady on the phone said they 'do them all the time' and she would send her 'best geothermal guy.' It was freezing and February, so I said yes please. The guy was late -- he showed up around 7 pm (but remember, it was freezing, February, and he said they were swamped with calls) - and very polite. Unfortunately, within about ten minutes it was clear that he wasn't a geothermal guy. He said he hadn't worked on a geo in several years, and he didn't even have the right tools. He was in fact surprised to learn that the company worked on geos (he was even surprised when I pointed out that the back of his shirt included the work 'geothermal'). So there wasn't much he could do except fiddle with wires for half an hour until I said I'd wait for my guy to call. I'll give him props, he was willing to try, but it made me nervous. He said he had to have a check before he left, so I wrote him one. I felt really bad for him, it was a Friday night and a late call and he really was nice and this was not his fault -- he said he didn't even know he'd been sent out on a geothermal. I called the company Monday and told them what happened. They were apologetic and offered to send out another guy Tuesday - but I was a little leary of accepting (remember, this was supposed to be their 'best geo guy'). Eventually my guy called - he was out of town on a family emergency - and fixed the geo in, like, ten minutes. It was a bad fuse. Bottom line: although it took some phone tag over a period of days, I reached their service manager Walt and told him the problem. They refunded my money within 6 weeks. Everyone seemed really professional (if you overlook the fact that the best geo guy couldn't see that the fuse had melted to the board). So I'd recommend them conditionally, just not for geos.

A/C was not as cold as expected. Having used Nugent for a hot water heater install last fall we immediately thought of them. They came out same day. Nick was polite, professional, friendly and helpfull. Even though my unit is ~20 years old, and I had mentioned I was open to a new one, he never tried to push that option. These folks are truly in it for the long-haul. Shop Vienna!

Extremely well done. Polite, clean, efficient. No surprise charges at the end. Salesman and installation techs were very helpful, walking us through each step and adding no pressure to the situation. Joe was exceptional.

I'm as happy as anybody with an unexpected $531 bill could be. Very happy to have my sink working again, thanks to Matt. Late Friday afternoon I found my kitchen sink wasn't draining. Sara at John Nugent, was kind enough to see if someone was available to come out in the morning, and scheduled a call. Matt called in the morning to let me know he was going to be a bit later and arrived then as promised. He snaked the drain from the upstairs to the basement and when that didn't work, climbed onto the roof to snake it from there. That finally unclogged it. He told me it wasn't the last thing I put in that stopped up the drain, it was that and 50 years of accumulated gunk in the pipes. Matt was efficient, professional and very courteous. Before he left he noticed that my kitchen faucet wand had a tiny crack in it and water was leaking from it that eventually would have dripped down the back of the sink. He told me I was in luck it was a Moen, which has a lifetime guarantee. Then he showed me how a new wand would be attached. He even gave me the phone number -- 1-800 BUY MOEN. I found the model number, called Moen and got an email saying the new part is scheduled to arrive May 5. No charge, even for shipping! It was bought in 05, and I would never have remembered the guarantee it it wasn't for Matt. It was terrific to have my kitchen back in working order so quickly. I'm positive that no other firm could have done the job better or more cheaply. Matt was terrific, and I can understand why John Nugent is so highly rated. Thank you Angie's List for a great find!

The were on time, gave me up front pricing, did a good job. Price was good, not great, but good.

I was out of town during the big freeze. My pet sitter called to say it was 47 degrees in the house. From South Carolina I got on Angie's List and began looking at reviews and calling providers. They were very responsive. Identified the problem and had the furnace fixed within about 2 hours. The next day another call to report a broken pipe in the garage. I called them again and they were able to come out faster than 3 other providers I called. Their work was good, they were prompt. The technicians explained everything to me and my pet sitter. I called a friend and explained the diagnosis and quote as my absence would have been a perfect excuse to overcharge. They did not. My friend agreed with the cost estimate. So I hired them and I'm happy I did. Responsive, professional and reasonable. I think all costs in this area are expensive and since I have no comparison, I gave them a B. I might have paid more; I might have paid less. Overall I'm very happy.

Showed up on time - was the only one of four estimators to put the little bootie things on his shoes when coming into my house. Price was in line with industry standards. Not bad at all, just got beat out by a better price/ equipment combo by another provider. Needs to make sure he keeps his information straight though... told me the Nest thermostat I wanted was being recalled when it was the Nest smoke alarm that actually had the recall on it.

Service was great- only wish we would have been asked for input re new appliance as we might have gotten a more energy efficient one. Also, price seemed a bit high after talking with my neighbor who had replaced one. But, unfortunately it looked competitive with market.

It was a long process but it went well. Can't say enough about the work and the professionalism of everyone I came into contact with. I have already recommended them to a friend.

One of the coldest days of the year when installed. Technicians professional, dedicated, and hard working. They had to hand carry the equipment through my condo. Very good at laying down coverings to protect my rugs. Job done in half the time.

John Nugent & Sons have done several plumbing jobs at my home. I have been using their services for over 2 years. They are always on time and are always very professional. They explain the required work in detail, and their prices are very, very competitive. I always get estimates from other companies, but invariably I come back to John Nugent & Sons. They have done so much work at my house. I recently had a gas leak that could not be detected by the fire department or the gas company. I called John Nugent and they found the gas leak right away. I am extremely happy with their service. They are in the process of doing some extensive electrical work for me including installing recess lighting, chandelier and a ceiling fan. I know that I will be pleased with the project. I am totally satisfied with John Nugent & Sons and highly recommend them for any of your plumbing and electrical work.

The installers came on time, were courteous and friendly, explained everything to our satisfaction and took less time than they originally thought it would take. They also cleaned up well after removing the old system. There were several glitches getting the system up and running properly (one big one involved a faulty part on the part of the manufacturer), but without fail they came back each time to fix things within 24 hours and worked on it until all was running smoothly. I was very pleased with the whole experience.

They were excellent! Starting with the estimator who gave me options and discussed pros and cons of each. Then a project manager came ahead of the actual work and figured out what duct work needed to be replaced so that the new system would meet the older duct work. The install crew of four guys showed up around 9:00 and put down tarps to ensure no dirt was tracked through the house. Then they immediately began removing the old system and put the new system in, including a new Wi-Fi thermostat. The crew was very conscience of our pets and made sure they cleaned up all packaging and trash. They even went beyond the work order and replaced some PVC drain piping. Project was complete by 4:00. I'd hire them again!

After receiving several quotes to wire our new hot tub, from $600 if not wired to code up to $1400 if wired to code. I called John Nugent and Sons Sterling Virginia location and requested another quote. Their electrician (Michael) showed up on time for our appointment was very professional. After discussing several options we came to an agreement that the hot tub would be wired to code and how the wiring would be run to the spa. Considering how high some of the previous quotes were, and the 10% coupon on Angie's List, I booked the install. When Michael came back to wire the spa and install the spa disconnect it was a cold and rainy day, but instead of making an excuse about the weather and delaying the install, he and his assistant toughed it out and completed the wiring.We have really been enjoying our new spa, thanks to Michael and John Nugent & Sons!

The technician showed up on time, at the beginning of the two hour window. He was friendly and explained to me the entire replacement as he was performing it. We would definitely use this company again.

Troy was prompt, courteous and fast. He explained everything that needed to be done, how long it would take and the cost. He has been here for two different jobs and we were please with the results of both. We would highly recommend.

Extremely prompt, efficient, professional service. Diagnosed problem and recommended solution but also said that if we had a home warranty, definitely worth going through the home warranty. My HVAC died the night before a massive snow storm. I called my original provider, who didn't have the spare part to fix my very old system, and the cost to fix wasn't worth it. I decided to replace the entire system, which was internal blower system and outside heat pump. My original company was very responsive, but the price they quoted me seemed high. I called Nugent and they sent a salesman around the same day I called (and I called after noon). The salesman was nice but a little pushy, but we were able to negotiate a price that was about $1k cheaper than my original provider's price, even after all the discounts that I would have had with that provider. Due to a weekend and a holiday, they weren't able to install the system until Wednesday, but to save $1k, it was worth the couple of extra days. The team arrived on time, were courteous, neat, and finished the work promptly. They laid tarps/mats down in the house to minimize the dirt, as they were going back and forth from my muddy garden. When they left, all I had to do was one quick vacuum. The installer stayed to show me how to use the new digital thermostat. The only downside is that they are not yet registered as a preferred provider with Dominion Power, so I am not eligible to get the heat pump upgrade rebate that Dominion offers. ($200-$250, depending on the unit). However, it was still cheaper without the rebate. I would encourage Nugent to complete the process to become a preferred provider. If their prices had been closer, I would have gone with the provider that would have gotten me the rebate from the electric company.

Our hot water heater stopped providing hot water. Matt, the plumber, did a thorough check on the hot water heater and determined that the problem stemmed from a missing "cartridge" that should have been installed with a new Delta tub/shower valve. The cartridge was not included in the package but rather in a trim kit that is on order. The cost was $95. We became concerned about a potential electrical issue, as a result of an ongoing renovation, and made a second call to John Nugent & Sons several days later. The electrician (also called Matt but a different person), determined that a GFI plug was not properly installed. The cost was $95 and that included a panel inspection. Matt came back a few days later, at our request, to properly install the GFI plug. The cost was $250. We were very pleased with both Matts. They arrived within the timeframe given, they called before they arrived, and we were pleased with the knowledgeable and friendly service of the office employees who made the appointments.

Due to the nature of the job they were unable to put a crew on-site when needed. The estimator came in and performed the necessary procedures to allow for another contractor to come in and work. After the other contractor finished, several surprises arose. I called Nugent & Sons that night, and they had a plumber show up the next day to take care of the new and unscheduled issues.

A team of 4 people showed up at staggered times, as needed for the job. All were very concerned that they had foot coverings on or that they only walked where drop clothes had been installed. First group removed the old unit and ducting. New unit was installed very efficiently. There was a concern that the installation of a liquid line would require drywall cuts; however, they were successful at installing the line with no holes needed to be cut. The team obviously knew what needed to be done and proceeded to do very professional work. I have the highest regard for John Nugent and Sons work ethic and the professional people that they have working for the company. All workers were polite and professional. This is the second major project that they have performed for me. They installed a gas heat system and gas water heater in another house. They are competitive on pricing and I trust their workmanship. Nilson, RJ, Marcus and Ronnie are outstanding professionals and craftsmen and did an excellent installation. Carl, who did the initial visit and estimate and Bill who came out to measure the system are also a credit to the John Nugent and Sons team.
