While giving us an estimate they actually told us why we didn't need certain products, instead of trying to sell us on a bigger and more expensive scope of work. The quote we received was either less than other companies we solicited, or provided better equipment for a comparable price. The work was done in a timely manner, professionally, and to our specifications. No problems whatsoever. I would recommend them, and will be using them again when I need other services done. After working with several contracting companies over the past 3 months, I am happy to say that this is one of the more pleasant experiences.

They were absolutely wonderful! They came within 1 1/2 hours of my phone call. Very professional, explained everything, and even cleaned up after they were finished! Would definitely recommend them and use them again!

I were unable to use this Big Deal because the company does not do the service on the weekends.

I chose them mainly due to the price. They were $300 or $400 cheaper I think than another company I was looking at. I will definitely use them again in the future if I need to.

I love this company! Complete professionals. There were 3 guys who arrived at my home at 7am and had completely replaced my HVAC system (including getting a massive machine into an attic up a steep ladder) by 3pm. My home was immaculate, they explained the new system and digital thermostat, and it works like a dream. Their estimate was the lowest I got, and I particularly liked that they were straight with me and didn't try to sell me a super fancy system my house didn't need. I probably saved $2K using them, and could not have found a better service. I also used them to replace my hot water heater and will use them going forward for whatever I can. Trust me - you'll love these local guys.

The plumber (Miguel) arrived early and went right to work. I explained to him what I had done to isolate and the leak source. He surveyed the interior water line and refrigerator to no avail. He then removed the dishwasher access plate and looked under the sink and discovered the leak. He repaired a valve and solved the problem.

We spoke with a number of contractors to do the work and Nugent felt like the right balance of advising us and listening to us. They were realistic about what would work and what wouldn't, and were never pushy about our decisions. At first we had Nugent install a new AC system in our newly purchased 90-year-old home. This meant new ductwork all through the house, including a creative solution to cool both floors without dropping any ducting through the first floor of the house. The system hit a snag in the first few weeks, but when we finally called the problem was identified and fixed quickly (a coolant leak near the compressor). This initial job ran about $14K---there were no overages and no real surprises. Later in the year we decided to have Nugent inspect our old oil boiler to see if we could make it through one more winter before making a change. They immediately found a crack in one of the major parts, and so gave us an estimate for a new system, suggesting we take the opportunity to replace the neighboring water hear, which was over 20 years old. Since the house already had a natural gas supply, we agreed that a hybrid natural gas boiler/water heater would be a good long-term fix. The process of installation took longer than the crew expected, and after they left the system didn't seem to be working correctly. Nugent promptly sent their guys back to ID the problem, which turned out to be a faulty part from the manufacturer. After that the system worked great, saving us literally thousands of dollars over the previous winter. All in all we found Nugent responsive and responsible, at a fair, competitive price.

During the 1st hot spell of the season, our heat pump went belly up. We were not customers. They came out the next day and diagnosed the problem. We decided to use them to replace the part. They expedited our order and had installers available as soon as the part arrived. Couldn't be happier with their support.

I didn't expect to hire Nugent & Sons since they weren't my regular plumber and this was a big and critical job. However, I had a leak in my water main and wanted it done quickly and it was in the middle of a very cold January and I was having a hard time getting dates for service due to the cold making the plumbers busy. Nugent was the second estimate I received. Nugent's estimate was quite a bit higher than the first estimate I received but the quality of the copper they quoted was better and it included a bit more scope (at my request). Even apples to apples, I think their estimate would have still been higher but I liked the philosophy of the Nugent plumber (Danny) in terms of using high quality (K-type) copper for the underground portion and some other things he said and quality is important to me. They also sent a master plumber for the estimate whereas the other company sent just an estimator. They also gave me a start date that was very soon. The start date is the one area that was slightly negative but I'm unsure who's to blame. Nugent called a day or so before the scheduled date and said Arlington Co had not issued the permit yet so they had to delay the start until the permit was issued. I checked the county website and the permit status was listed as "Approved/Not Issued" - kind of ambiguous. I called Arlington the next day and they told me that the permit was approved and the plumber could start any time and doesn't need the actual permit in hand. Anyway, if I wasn't in such a hurry it wouldn't really matter much but it seemed like a case of Arlington doing things a certain way and Nugent playing it "by the book" or not being used to the way Arlington does things? I'm not sure. In any case, the weather was terrible and snowy and the appointment was rescheduled to be after the next snow but otherwise as soon as possible. On the day of work, the digging crew (a subcontractor) and Danny, the plumber showed up on time and got to work. I forget how many people total but it seemed like a lot. There was some issue with the coupling needed to attach to city water - which seemed unexpected but it was resolved between Nugent and Arlington Co. They discovered an older abandoned water main while digging and they had to enlarge the hole in the house to fit the new 1" water main. All this to say it was a pretty complex job. Danny alternated working on the inside work and directing the operations outside and interacting with the county inspector. The job went well past sunset and it was dark by the time they were filling in the trench. They did an OK job of regrading the area that they had trenched. Being dark, it was kind of hard to see at the time. Danny did a really good job on the interior plumbing and cleaned up good. I was particularly pleased to see that he had taken the time to replace all the drop ceiling tiles (he said he used to install them) because that can be a pain. He came back to tidy up the hole in the house.

I loved the plumber so much that I hired him on the spot to replace my very old hot water heater, a project that wasn't on my immediate radar. He was very, very courteous, respectful, listened well, and fixed the issue. I trusted him immediately when I met him. He was on time for my hot water heater replacement, finished an hour ahead of schedule, tidied up perfectly, and gave me a bit if a break on the work because I had 2 jobs with him. Could not have been more pleased.

They were terrific. They were professional, responsive when we called them and they helped us calculate how long it would take to recoup the cost of getting the highest efficiency. I have no complaints at all. I think they're very good and have a good product.

Jonathan arrived on time on the same day I called for broken sump pumps. He listened to the symptoms I described concerning the two sump pumps I have in the basement. He then went to work to identify what was causing the problems with the pumps. He explained to me what the problems were and described what he recommended be done to correct the problems and the cost of the work to be done. The price was very fair and reasonable. Jonathan was very knowledgeable of the make of pumps I had and was able to complete the job in a timely manner. He cleaned up so well you could hardly tell he had just replaced two old and decrepit pumps. I have used another company for years that did adequate work, but I have been won over to John Nugent & Sons, and will now be a customer of theirs from now on.

We were pleased with their service and hope to be able to utilize them for some electrical work that we need done on our new home.

They said they were going to come between noon and 4:00 PM and would call my wife's cell phone 30 min. in advance. After waiting all afternoon, my wife called to find out if they were still coming. They said, between 5:00 and 5:30. She again said to call her cell phone 30 min. in advance. She went out to run a quick errand. They came at 4:30 while she was out after calling the house phone, not the cell phone, about 15 min. before their arrival. Of course, she did not get the call and was not home when they came. So, here we sit in 86 degrees and 100% humidity, trying to reschedule.

When my decades-old heat pump and air handler units began to fail in early May, I called Nugent & Sons who sent a service technician out the next day. That gentleman accomplished a hard start of the system, but carefully warned me that it provided, at best, a very temporary fix. The next day, a salesperson visited, proposed and priced a solution, and ensured that I was put into immediate contact with the scheduler who booked a pre-installation walkthrough for me approximately 4 weeks later. However, just as I?d been warned could occur, the old units gave up the ghost altogether within 2 weeks of the initial service call (and with almost 2 weeks yet to go before the scheduled walkthrough and installation timeframes). In very short order, the company ? knowing that a heat wave was expected ? mobilized and came to my early rescue. Exceptionally attentive and effective service was provided by all of the organization?s staff with whom I dealt, from the initial technician, who diagnosed the long-term challenge and implemented a hard start as a short-term carryover; the very genial and expert salesperson, who provided a prompt quote as well as delivered and installed a loaner window air conditioning to ensure at least a cool bedroom in which I could sleep for the duration; the outstandingly professional scheduler, who went to great lengths to move my job up on the installation schedule; the well-organized and knowledgeable foreman, who did the pre-installation walkthrough; and the three very courteous and highly-efficient technicians who accomplished the installation one short day after the walkthrough. It should additionally be noted that the latter three-person team worked swiftly and carefully, and left my home as tidy as they had found it. The two new units, installed 5 days ago, have been and are currently working beautifully and I have no reason to believe that they will not continue to do so. Unless some problem unexpectedly presents itself, I will absolutely consider this to have been an exceptional customer experience. At the current time, I am a very satisfied customer who would not hesitate at all to give this service provider the highest recommendations.

The technician, Todd, presented himself as knowledgeable, kind, and patient from working with the AC to explaining options to handling my pet boxer. He called and advised to turn on the fan to allow the unit to unthaw while leaving the AC off. After allowing time for this process to take place, he arrived and expediently performed the service in about half an hour.

They were very prompt to get us a quote and did a great job of estimating what it would cost. He let me go over questions and very professional. He was very punctual, showed up on time to do the install and did a great job.

They are efficient, and not too hard to schedule, and they are professional.

I was installing a new kitchen faucet and had to replace both of the shut-off valves. I was unable to replace one of them myself, and had to have help because the water was turned off to the whole house. John Nugent & Sons have service on Sunday and a good recommendation on Angie's List. I was able to get in touch with the guy who was on call that day immediately. He said he would be able to come out in an hour and a half, which he did. He was able to install the new valve in about five minutes, and he checked the other connections I had made. The cost was $215, because it was a Sunday call. That's high, but about what I expected for a Sunday call. And I couldn't turn the water back on otherwise, so it was worth it. I would definitely use this company again, but I'll try not to have to call them on a Sunday. :)

Jonathan from John Nugent and Sons, Inc installed a new single lavatory faucet as a result of a bathroom renovation. Due to the age of the home and pipes (built in the 1950's), this was not an easy task. And it required minor under sink repair involving new materials. We were very pleased with his professionalism and expertise and the fact that he ran the faucet looking for any issues. We appreciate his attention to details -- and -- the fact that he wore protective foot coverings each time he entered our home. This is the third time we have used John Nugent & Sons Inc this year and would not hesitate to use them again.
