The tech called in advance of arrival. Tech was professional and efficient. He completed the effort in less than 20 minutes without us feeling like he was rushing the job. The replacement ball valve and materials were of good quality. Price was a fair value for our area for the service received.

I've used John Nugent & Sons for HVAC & AC Maintenance, Electrical work, and Plumbing. In all instances, the technician was right on time and provided a 20-minute call ahead of arriving. I did feel it was pricy, but it's probably comparable to others in the area. All work was high quality. All technicians were professional and polite. Will use again.
Description of Work: $435 for repair of 4 outlets and 2 switches. Also had them repair a toilet, which was $297 Also HVAC and AC Maintenance, which was $160

I knew I needed a new HVAC, but they needed to come out for a diagnostic test. I didn't end up using the company since I only got my HVAC fixed instead of getting replaced. Chung is very knowledgeable and professional.

Just posting this, since I chose to hire another company for my spring AC checkup this year, and didn't get around to posting my review of this company. Nugent & Sons installed our heating and AC and I bought the service contract and paid a yearly fee. Everything was ok a couple years. I called to schedule a winter checkup. The checkup was done, but seven days later I had to call because I noticed water dripping from a pipe above the furnace. A tech came out and said "just a leak from the exhaust" and he applied sealer. I was charged a $95 "diagnostic fee." Thought this extravagant since the tech didn't notice the leak at the checkup visit. Also, on their website it stated with a service contract, a diagnostic fee was $85! With the service contract you are supposed to get priority service. I had to reschedule a checkup due to their "employee not showing up for work" and waited another couple weeks. I asked for an estimate for a chimney liner and had no response after several phone calls...I finally emailed and got a response that they would send an estimate. They never did. Decided to find another company. The service contract was not worth having. They charged their standard fees every year and other companies charge less for the same service. I see they now have their check up fee for $49 instead of the $79 they always charged, guess competition is good. I called the company and told them how dissatisfied I was. I had no response. They sent me a renewal for their service contract and I sent them a letter stating all the above and still no response.
Description of Work: Furnace/AC checkup under service contract.

This company came in and gave me an estimate. To replace 2 leaky valves it cost over $600, which was exorbitant. The materials were less than $100, and the work took less than an hour. Their prices were simply outrageous, so I told them to replace just one. We discovered a frozen pipe in the system. I asked them to look into it, and they charged me $160, when it only took them 15 minutes to assess. They wanted to charge an additional $350 to fix it, and this only took them another half hour to do. In all, they were here about an hour and half total, and they charged me $800+. Their pricing is ridiculous. The tech was courteous and polite, but the company itself is bad.

There was a slight issue with billing - accidentally paid too much but got it resolved very quickly with the help of the lady from accts payable. She was very professional and resolved the manner quickly. I would call John Nugent & Sons Inc for future issue!

The technician arrived at the earlier part of the window and was very professional. He put booties on when he entered the condo and confirmed what he was there to do, then asked me to point him to where the HVAC units were. He ran an 18-point check, writing down the general findings, including temperature readings and general statements that the buyers could understand (such as 'unit was found to be in working order'). While doing his tests, the technician noted that the filter was dirty and asked if I had a spare. I ran to the management office and bought one, and the technician offered to do the replacement. He didn't charge me for this, though I'd be willing to pay--that filter is a pain to replace! But here's the kicker: the buyers wanted to speak with Nugent & Sons to confirm that everything was working fine (they were very annoying buyers). Kate, an extremely nice and patient person, dealt with them, the buying agent, my agent, and me repetitively throughout the day. Initially, she wouldn't give out any information because they weren't the owners of the unit; I tried to have the agents handle it, but they didn't, so we agreed to let the buyers have the info; the buying agent then tried to get my contact info from Kate, she refused and passed his information along to me. Bottom line: all of the emails, phone calls, etc that Kate sent/received that day was way beyond the call of duty. In both of my dealings with John Nugent & Sons, they were extremely professional, easy to work with (i.e., techs call you directly with questions/issues so you can take care of things right then, where possible), and they didn't once try to up-sell at all. They came in, did the work perfectly, and made the transactions very easy for me.
Description of Work: I called John Nugent & Sons to evaluate the HVAC system in an investment property. We were in the process of selling it, and the home inspector claimed the unit wasn't working (which was either a lie, or he didn't bother turning it on), so the buyers asked that we have the entire HVAC system evaluated. We've used John Nugent & Sons in the past and have a fantastic experience with them, so immediately I called and set up an appointment with them.

A leak was discovered coming from the water pressure valve around 8pm. It was around 30 minutes from calling to having the plumber at our door. The gentleman who came was very professional and communicated with us every step of the way about what was going on and what the cost would be to fix. We would absolutely call them again for more plumbing work.

Labor for the job--which took only 2 hours--was a whopping $1200. Their markup on the pump they installed was 100%--I checked the retail cost of the pump online. When questioned about why they were so expensive, they had no answer. This vendor is unbelievably, unnecessarily expensive. SHOP AROUND BEFORE YOU CALL JOHN NUGENT & SONS!

I originally had someone come out to give me an estimate on replacing our electric heat pump as with this very cold winter our heating system was not working well. The second estimate I wanted was for our water heater as it appeared to be leaking and was original with the house. I had met with another company earlier in the day that tried to convince me that I needed a new electric heat pump system for over $12,000, which had me quite upset. When the John Nugent rep. came he took a look at my thermostat and said my first issue was that it wasn't set up correctly and that's probably why I was having the issue. He still recommended we replace our old system for a more efficient one went over the options and that for the type of home we have the $5-$6k systems would be a big improvement. Before he left he helped me to reset the programming on my thermostat and that night, which was the coldest of the winter, we had heat working in our house just fine. I decided to hold off on getting a new electric heat pump and to replace the water heater. The day I called to confirm that I wanted the water heater replaced we had frozen pipes burst in our home so I also used John Nugent to fix the burst pipes. I can't tell you how much I appreciated the honesty and help of the original rep. who came to talk to me about the electric heat pump and am so glad he didn't come to just try to sell a product but to fix the problem I was having, which is why I decided to use them for the services and plan to use them in the future. They were able to book the plumbing repairs and water heater replacement quickly and the plumbers were timely and professional.

Extremely professional and while not not inexpensive, a very good value. Originally got several estimates for whole house backup generator and laying an additional gas line for an outdoor kitchen. Very competitive bid but had done business with them previously so a better understanding of how it might go. It went better than expected, very thorough estimate, well discussed, then provided a schedule they hit perfectly. Reasonable amount of dirt/trenching given gas lines and electrical lines, but left the yard in perfect condition. They were upfront on what to expect and then delivered as promised.

I really liked the sales person that came out, he seemed very knowledgable and pointed out several things he was going to do in addition to installing the new units. I was upfront and honest when we met and let him know what the short falls of my existing systems but also that I was getting a total of 3 quotes from top rated Angie's List companies. He said he was going to give me his best offer upfront....which ended up being 4K more then the other two providers. I followed up with him to let him know we were just to far apart he mentioned that "we were closer than I might think". He requested I send the other compeditor's quote over to make sure we were comparing apples to apples. Turns out, he was putting a two ton A/C unit in my upstairs, when specifically said the current unit has never been able to keep up with the heat around here. (I already had a two ton unit and needed more.) When he reviewed the competitor's quote he failed to mention that they were putting in a 3 ton unit. I absolutely HATE the used care sales technique and while I am willing to pay more if the quality/value was there, it felt like he was just taking me for stupid. You don't have to be the cheapest but he not only didn't put his "best price forward" initially but obviously wasn't listening to what I wanted....a better a/c unit upstairs!

At first everything seemed to be going well. I called early in the morning right as the business was opening and asked for the next available appointment. I explained to the lady I spoke to that I had a pipe rupture in the wall of my home but I was able to isolate the pipe from the rest of the house. This enabled me to have water throughout the rest of the house. She told me the next available was going to be the next day between 1200 - 1600. I told her that was fine and to call me if something opens up before then. I received a call about 10 minutes after we hung up informing me that she was mistaken and they would be at the house that same day between 1200 - 1600. I thought to myself, awesome! The house is a rental so I called my tenant and asked them to take the day off of work to receive the plumber. 1600 comes around and my tenant calls to tell me they have not arrived yet. I called back the office and they told me that the plumber was running behind and would be out by 1800. Wanting to not waste any more time I told them that was ok and informed my tenant of the new time. 1800 come and goes and yet no call from the plumber. Finally the actually plumber doing the job calls at 1900 stating he would be to the house at 2000. This was absolutely to late for my tenant who had to be up early the next morning. I asked the plumber to have a supervisor or dispatch call me to reschedule. I NEVER heard from them again. Not one single phone call. I decided to use a different plumber of Angie's list which turned out to be awesome! I DO NOT recommend this people to anyone. Not worth your time.

Response from John Nugent & Sons Inc
[Member information removed], I have reviewed your service call. The technician was dispatched to your rental property at 4:45 pm or 16:45. I do apologize that we were running late. But as you stated we do contact every customer to let you know the status of our technicians when they are running behind schedule. When the technician called into the office that you didn’t not want him to come out it was relayed as a canceled call not that you wanted to reschedule, which is why you did not receive a return call. Again, if this information was incorrect we apologize for the inconvenience. We have relayed your comments to the technician to try to improve our services in the future. Sincerely, Nancy Nugent.

No service provided but excellent advice given. Excellent service and professionalism.
Description of Work: We had a burst pipe on a Saturday night and were looking for someone to come fix it on Sunday morning. They answered the phone immediately when we called and were more than helpful. He actually told us how to bypass the burst pipe so we could have water in the meantime. The prices quoted were very reasonable, much less than anyone else we talked to. We were able to get ahold of our regular plumber and have the job done sooner but would definitley use John Nugent and Sons in the future if we were in need.

Ductwork venting the furnace and gas hot water heater to the outside was improperly slanted which could allow carbon dioxide to seep into the house. Technician arrived on time and was very thorough and professional. His supervisor, Chad, came out to the house to confirm the solution the technician wanted to use to properly vent the ductwork and to confirm that a vent cap was required. Technician was very efficient and cleaned up the entire area once he was completed. If I have any further HVAC or hot water heater issues, I'm calling John Nugent and Sons.
Description of Work: Realigned interior furnace ductwork and replaced outside vent cap.
