Description of Work: I'm supposed to be having my first fumigation for bedbugs this morning. I was going to pay $850 or thereabouts and a $60 monthly retainer for the next year. I spent hours preparing for the service but became suspicious when the company couldn't answer many questions I had about what the protocol was. Luckily, I called a university known for its expertise in bedbug research and described the evidence on which my bedbug diagnosis had been made. The professor told me it sounded as if I almost certainly did not have bed bugs. I was finding tiny hard black pellets, like grains of pepper, on my sheets. The Barrier inspector told me this confirmed the bed bug diagnosis.I was stunned. I had called to find out where I could find a company to remove the bedbugs correctly, not to check the diagnosis. She referred me to a company that used dogs to check for bedbugs. I was still convinced I had bed bugs -- my numerous bites all over looked exactly like the pictures I had seen. But it turns what I had originally thought may have been correct -- I was getting a lot of early mosquito bites and maybe some other type of bite as well. I learned later that the pepper grains could have been from fleas. Our old old dog was put to sleep about the time my bites started, I think--although with these things, you kind of make up a story in your mind of what might have happened. I'm allergic to these bites, whatever they are, and many of them became inflamed.A day or two after my conversation with the professor, I called the place she recommended and had my house checked -- every room -- by a real inspector this time and a little dog. I have no bedbugs. If you think you have bedbugs, call a university for a recommendation. I was desperate to get the problem solved, which makes a person very vulnerable. The person I called was at Virginia Tech. If she hadn't called me back last Monday after I sent her an e-mail describing my situation, all of my clothes, books, papers, etc., would be in big black contractor bags. I would have paid a lot of money -- I cancelled the payment after I talked to the professor. I would have been unhappy about losing the money plus the retainer (to keep the non-existent bedbugs out of my house), but much more important is the anguish I would have continued to undergo.Even if I had had bedbugs, I wanted to be able to trust someone to guide me through the process of getting rid of them. It is very doable but there are many ignorant and dishonest suppliers out there, along with a lot of good ones.

Description of Work: They treat my home for bugs every 3 months. Great company that is always on time. The girl who comes out to treat is so nice and know what she is doing because our bugs are gone.
