Our deck caught fire last summer and we contracted Chris Heinz to do the rebuilding and replacement of our fire-damaged exterior. Chris was wonderful to work with! He worked with our insurance company tirelessly and also kept us informed every step of the way. He and his crew removed our old deck and siding, and built a new deck, a landing and stairs off our kitchen, installed a new sliding door and four windows, replaced our siding and trim, and installed new outdoor lighting. There were a few delays due to the pandemic and materials being readily unavailable from one of the manufacturers, but the timeframe was reasonable given the circumstances. Chris and his crew did an amazing job and we couldn’t be happier. We love our beautiful new deck and the new siding and trim. We get so many compliments from our neighbors and passers-by! We will definitely go to Chris next time we need work on our house and recommend him to everyone!

They even took extra care to ensure our escape artist dogs wouldn't get out even though their work involved dozens of trips in and out all day. The works itself was done perfectly and in the timeline they gave us. They cleaned up as if they weren't even there when they were done. Heinz home improvement did a wonderful job repairing my roof in the midst of an pandemic. They were able to negotiate a higher reimbursement from insurance for me all while needing to go above and beyond traveling to 3-4 Home Depot’s to find the plywood that was needed, when there was a shortage. His employees did a thorough job replacing the roof and cleaning up. Definitely would recommend for future work.

We met Chris Heinz after sustaining storm damage to our roof. Heinz Home Improvements and Services, Inc. (HHI) was doing some remodeling for a neighbor's house, so we approached Chris for a quote at our house. It was important to us that we could see the high quality of work he was doing at the neighbor's place. Chris completed an estimate to repair the roof damage at the same time the insurance adjuster completed his estimate. Comparing the two, and viewing the damage myself, it was immediately clear the insurance company had missed several items and significantly underestimated the repair cost. We tried to work with the Insc. Co. directly, but since I'm not a roofing professional, they had an advantage. Since we couldn't come to an agreement, we contacted the Co. and told them we were naming Chris as our agent, able to speak on our behalf for all matters relating to the insurance claim. Chris then contacted the Insc. Co. directly. I'll shorten the story by simply saying that, with Chris' professionalism and knowledge, the additional photos he sent of the needed repairs, and copies of the local building code, the Insc. Co. paid for EVERY item on Chris' original list. In the end, the Insc. Co. paid SEVERAL thousands of dollars more than they would have without Chris' expertise. Based on this experience, we immediately asked Chris for estimates for a number of home improvements we'd been considering. These included: 1. A complete replacement/upgrade of the electrical service to the building, bringing it up to current code and adding new 120V and 240V service to the garage. Chris worked directly with the electrical inspector, similarly to his work with the Insc. Co., making the process seamless and easy. We have a number of pets that require heat lamps all day, and Chris even offered his own generator to make sure everyone was safe and comfortable while the electricity was necessarily disconnected from the house. 2. External wooden surfaces and trim. HHI completely replaced most of the visible wooden structure of the building which required significant woodworking (cutting, shaping, fitting) to completely replace outdated materials. 3. Window upgrades, repairing/replacing original wooden window frames with modern windows. 4. A complete replacement of all gutters and all supporting structure attached to the building. 5. Tree removal (two dead/dying trees in the back yard). 6. Exterior door replacement. HHI completely removed and replaced the outside back door with a special order replacement. HHI completed the entire project in about 4 hours. Chris' team is professional, personable, and timely. EVERY time I had a question about anything, Chris and/or his team were immediately over to the house to explain, adjust, and/or do whatever was required to make sure his customer was satisfied. His crew showed up at 7:00 one morning to answer a simple question I had the previous day about the electrical work in the garage. Heinz Home Improvements and Services is HIGHLY recommended. We will definitely be contacting HHI for our own future home improvement needs.

Chris has done two jobs for us and he’ll be our first call for the next. The first job involved replacing carpet for hardwood floors in the family room, re-tiling the fireplace, and installing a new door to the yard. Right before, we discovered a washing machine leak which had ruined our kitchen subfloor. No problem for Chris and his team - they tackled it like expected. The second job was the entire remodel of our master bathroom (sink, tub, toilet, shower, tiles). We discovered many cut corners from the prior job. Again, no problem. Our bathroom looks phenomenal now. Most importantly, Chris has your back. During the bathroom remodel, my wife was 8 months pregnant. A Home Depot delivery representative was at our home being anything but customer friendly. Chris happened to be present and interjected, demanding the representative come through for us. He had our back. The Heinz company takes pride in its work. It is very communicative to make sure your expectations are met. They’ll always be our first choice to take care of our home projects.

I called Chris to receive an estimate to tile a front entry and a garage entry way. He arrived on Friday 04/06 for the estimate and said to give him 3 days to email it over. I started calling at 7 days to get the estimate. By Monday 04/16 I still haven't heard so I continued to call and leave messages, I sent text's and sent emails. I left a total of 10 messages. Everything went unanswered. I'm assuming he isn't interested in any new business so I'll be going elsewhere.

He worked directly with our HOA and received the necessary approvals for the work, relieving me of that typically frustrating responsibility. Chris and his team performed each job to my satisfaction. The work was completed quickly, in about 2 weeks. It was split into two main phases, 1) demo of the wall, building the railing, and repairing and painting the bedrooms and 2) refinishing the floors. We worked with Christopher to put together an estimate and some ideas for what to expect, because we weren't sure whether there was anything behind the wall to demo or what shape the floors were in under the carpet. He also suggested some new doors to replace the one that opened the "wrong" way. We ended up using the screen door he recommended and finding our own off the shelf HD door, because of our time constraints for the front door and didn't want to wait 4-6 weeks for a custom order. Christopher and Jesus did the majority of the work and they were very good about keeping the dust down by putting up plastic and protecting our hardwood floors. They cleaned up every day, including vacuuming. The wall ended up not being load bearing and only having electrical (light switch) we already knew about. Christopher realized that we needed to move our other switches that could not be behind the front door once we flipped it, so they moved it all to one electrical box on the correct side of the door. I worked with a Christopher to find a good post and railing, because I didn't like the typical round posts, and wanted squared ones. They also came up with a solution to make the railing work with our old plasterboard walls, which were uneven by 3/4-inch or so. They ended up using some trim to blend in railing to the wall. With refinishing the steps we ran into a bit of a problem. We knew we needed two new steps, because they had been cut to fit around the old door frame. Unfortunately, two other steps were damaged due to age and had to be replaced, which was an additional cost (we were aware of the possibility). The steps were made of heart pine, which would be a custom order, if they could find it. Christopher suggested a few options, which was to use pine step replacements that would have a slightly different grain or cap the old treads with oak (much more expensive). We were staining a dark color, so we decided to go with a different grain of pine, and it looks good. You can see a difference, but it blended in well enough that people didn't notice until we pointed it out. They stayed late and came on the weekend, with our permission, to make sure the floor guys could come the next Monday. We didn't want to delay either, so we thought that was great. Christopher even brought in a painting crew at his cost to get things done quicker. They replaced 4 lift fixtures as well, one which wasn't really part of the contact, but they did it anyway. I think the floor guys were technically subcontractors. The floor guys worked quickly and were able to make a custom match to our existing floor where the door was removed and a new piece of wood was needed. The rest of the floors were an existing stain, but close enough that the difference isn't noticeable between the levels of our house. We stayed for the sanding and stain, but moved out for 2 nights when they put down polyurethane. It was strong, but not as bad as expected, even though I was pregnant. The floors look great. Once that was done, Christopher came to do the walk through for touch ups and Jesus stayed to do the last bits of work. We'd definitely consider them again for future work. Christopher and Jesus were both prompt, friendly, and had workers. Christopher responded quickly when we had questions and usually gave us options when we weren't sure about what to do. I talked with Christopher about some other work we were considering and he had some ideas that we liked. We're waiting on those until the baby is a little older.

Chris was prompt, friendly, and made a number of suggestions about the projects. He said that it would take a few days to get an estimate as he had to talk with his engineer. Almost 3 weeks later I have yet to get an estimate. I've emailed him and left a voicemail with no response. This does not inspire confidence or denote professionalism, so I'll be looking elsewhere for a contractor to do this work.
