Once we decided to use J & D, Jedf explained it would be 3-4 weeks before he could get to us. Rain caused a delay in the projected start time which we understood to be out of his control.
Once he began, he worked consistently until the wall could be completed. He and his employees worked hard, stayed on task and were very polite and considerate. We now have a very sturdy, nicely finished block retaining wall.
We plan to use J & D for another project in the future. We were very pleased with our experience. Our final cost was at the lower end of the estimate we were given.
I believe he gave me his honest opinion, and I will be happy to call him in the future when I do need work done.
I certainly would recommend J and D Masonry without hesitation.
Jeff proposed moving the driveway gate, which had become nearly unusable because of the slant of the old retaining wall. The new placement puts it out of the path of the retaining wall and away from the guttering at the corner of the house. He also redesigned the gate to make it easier to open and more stable.
The finished wall and gate are both distinct improvements over the original designs. The retaining wall is now a solid, reinforced structure that should not develop a slant over the years. Jeff even put a facing on the wall to make it more attractive, rather than the bare concrete of the old wall. I had envisioned just a basic replacement, but Jeff exceeded my expectations and kept everything within budget. He and his crew also cleaned everything up well at the end of the job.
I would recommend J&D Masonry and Jeff Dame, and would gladly hire him again.
"After I completed this project I received a call from (member name removed) disputing the amount paid stating that it was $200 more than the contract. I offered to provide another copy of the contract which showed the total price of $4900.00, as well as the breakdown of payments to be received during the project that matched the total of $4900.00. I feel that this might have resulted in the bad review left my (member name removed) because during the project none of the issues mentioned in the review were brought up to me. So in response: During the project, which was delayed by winter weather of snow and rain, as well as a 4 week delay brought on by the electrician, I declined the payments agreed upon in the contract because I realized the project was taking longer than expected. I did get the permits that I agreed to obtain in the contract. After the demolition was completed there wasn't enough dirt to complete the grade to make it level. Per our contract I asked (member name removed) if she wanted to purchase the additional load of top soil for $200, and she declined understanding that the grade would be inadequate. The trash left behind was in fact due to the amount of trash left by the (member name removed) in the dwelling, which I was not responsible for cleaning as per our contract. I did call (member name removed) to obtain a second dumpster, which she asked me to pay half, and even though by contract I was not obligated to, I did go ahead and pay half for the second dumpster, and then proceeded to use my equipment and laborer to remove the trash from the property. This was at a cost to me, and I did not change the already agreed upon price in the contract to cover these expenses. I also seeded and laid down straw over the property once completed. Not over trash..because I had cleaned that up. I would like to add that (member name removed) was a pleasure to work for, and never heard any complaints. I would prefer the homeowner address any issues up front and timely so they can be addressed instead of conveying their complaints in a review. The review was disappointing, and a surprise, because I felt I did go over and beyond to complete the project to the (member name removed)’s satisfaction."
