Initial Quote Process

  • I called 5 different contractors and received 4 quotes.  (BNW builders didn't provide a quote)
  • Skyline's quote for vinyl windows was within $800 of the cheapest quote and $7000 less then the most expensive quote.  I should mention that I went with the more expensive composite windows which put it around $2400 higher than the cheapest quote.
  • No high pressure sales tactics, straight to the point.
  • I like the fact that I was dealing with the owner of the company rather than a sales person.
  • I had my initial appoint in the morning and received my quote within the same day.
  • I was informed it would take 3-5 weeks to order the windows once I signed the contract.
  • Skyline estimated that it would take 2 days to install the windows.
Job Execution
  • Windows arrived within 3 weeks which was earlier than I expected since I was told 3-5 weeks.
  • It took a total of 3 days to install all of the windows.
  • They showed up when they said they would.
  • They did everything they said they would.
Overall Summary
I do a lot of home improvements projects myself (built-ins, molding, tile work, flooring) and I am very happy with the work that Skyline has done for me.  I was initially a bit worried when they said it would only take 2 days to install the windows.  I didn't want them to do a rush job, happily it was not a rush job and they did excellent work.  The windows were installed before hurricane Irene and survived the storm without any leaks or problems.  I would recommend Skyline Windows to anyone and will probably use them to replace my patio doors in the future.

I'll start with the good... Roger showed up to my house for our first meeting on time. The Onka windows Skyline sells are a great product. The work they performed was done well and completed on time. Their "gutter guy", Michael, is super nice and was a pleasure to work with.

Now the bad... There is really only one major flaw with Skyline. Their communication (with customers and internally) is absolutely terrible! I waited days for an estimate when other companies were able to give me a quote on the spot. It took weeks to get the windows ordered and other work started after I gave them the OK. I left numerous messages that went unanswered. Apparently Randy is the only person that can make a decision at Skyline and he is impossible to get in touch with - both by me and his employees. If he ever does contact you, it will be via email. I have yet to speak with him on the phone.

Even though it was a hassle to work with Skyline, I was willing to let them do one more small job for me - wrapping the exterior trim around my new windows.  I finally got their quote. It seemed a little high, so I tried to negotiate for a better price. Here is Randy's response (via email of course): "Call some other companies and have them price it.  Good luck."

Thanks for the advice, Randy. I will call another company - for this and every other job I have in the future.

**Reply to Skyline's response: Thank you. I believe this proves just how unprofessional you are.

And for the record - I was not expecting your sub to be waiting at my door when I got home from work the same day the job was completed, and therefore did not have the correct checkbook. However, I did write him a check that day, from a different account, and asked that he allow 2 days for funds to be transferred into that account before depositing. The check cleared 4 days after the work was completed.
Response from Skyline Windows of Richmond
"I wish we could please everyone all of the time. We do try our best and are always willing to learn. There are times we just fall short of others expectations. Here are the facts regarding this situation. All chronicled and logged into our database. ā€œThe Rest of the Storyā€ regarding Customer comments I waited days for an estimate when other companies were able to give me a quote on the spot.. Observation: Apparently Skyline offered the best product and price instead of just throwing an immediate price to the customer. Also this customer failed to mention that he rejected our original estimate which led to delays. (Wanted a lower price) I waited days for an estimate when other companies were able to give me a quote on the spot. Observation: Your initial appointment was on July 20. After receiving our estimate the customer wanted to make a number of changes(i.e. not ordering a door) and also wanted a cheaper price. After coming to an agreement the member asked us to place the order on August 10. On August 11 The member received an acknowledgement that his windows had been ordered and would arrive in Richmond on August 24. The windows were delivered to him the next day. I'll pay cash and you can start ASAP. -Member Our response Call some other companies and have them price it. Good luck. Customers response Are you serious? I've spent over $7000 with you in the last few weeks and you're telling me to go somewhere else over a couple hundred bucks? Unbelievable. Further observations- Actually the member paid Skyline $3760.00- Not 7,200.00. We recommended two companies that the member contracted to do work. After all work was completed he did not have the funds available to pay one of these companies when that was the agreement. He said to the siding company, ā€œYou will have to wait for your moneyā€."

It was a great experience from the start. Randy only uses his own employees to do the jobs....no contractors. They all showed up on time and did a great job. All of the windows were replaced within a 1/2 day. The rest of the time was all the finish work/trim. We love our new windows and are saving almost $100/month on our energy bills.

Skyline did a terrific job. They arrived on time, worked steadily, answered my questions, and cleaned up well. It was a one day job, arriving at 8:30 and leaving at 4:30. The install crew was polite, good guys to talk with, and very skilled. I asked one of their guys if he would put some caulk in a area of my trim/siding not related to windows and he did so, using a colored caulk that matched my siding thereby avoiding me having to paint the seam later. There were no issues with ordering (took about 4 weeks) or installation. Once Okna upgrades their 800 series sliding door to include a wood grain interior finish later this year, I plan to have Skyline order and install it. Randy Ray of Skyline was my contact and he is the ultimate in no pressure sales. (Frankly, I bet that the high quality of his windows and his reasonable prices seal most of his sales.) Randly suggested I visit a job they were doing in my neighborhood to see their work and I came away happy with their work. He loaned me aluminum wrap and obscure glass samples for my wife to see and was timely with my email questions. His office staff was friendly and always forwarded my telephone messages. This is an excellent company and they carry excellent products. They are a top drawer firm. As the final compliment, my wife is so happy she's thinking about having Skyline replace our front and side doors, now!

We had four estimates on replacement windows. The costs were comparable, but we chose Skyline Windows for the quality of the product, the permanent crew (no subcontractors), the BBB A+ rating, and the comments provided from local customers. They installed all the windows in one day, and were courteous, efficient, and professional. They even took down our blinds and put them back up after the windows were installed (we had been out of town and had no time to remove the blinds). And they washed the windows before they left! We should have replaced the windows long ago. They look great, will decrease our electric bills, and are a snap to clean!

Roger's sales presentation was low key, understated, and honest. He presented factual information and answered all my questions without applying any high pressure sales tactics. Work began within 3 weeks of our signing the contract. We enjoyed good communication with Skyline Windows and appreciated their flexibility in completing the job in 2 separate visits ( to allow our painting contractor to paint brick molding prior to vinyl wrapping). The windows look great and work beautifully. It was a pleasure doing business with Skyline Windows and plan on calling Skyline when we are ready to replace the 5 remaining windows in the rear of our home. .

I am now retired, but in my working years, I built new homes. I was a framing and a finish carpenter, which is an odd combination today. I know what good work looks like, and I also know what the other kinds of work look like. Skyline Windows does outstanding work. There products are good; their workers are NOT subs, they do replacement windows day in and day out, year in and year out. They do it quickly and first-class. Every move they make has a purpose. They are extremely skilled craftsmen, and as you can tell, I HIGHLY recommend them. If you need your windows replaced, you will NOT find a better company! They came when they said they would; they showed respect for our home and for us. Our association with Skyline Windows, from the first phone call, too Randy?s initial visit to give us a price, to Roger and his crew doing the installation was absolutely unusual in our day of rip-off tradesmen. If you want the best with competitive prices, look no further.

It went extremely well. From my first phone call of inquiry, to Randy's visit for an estimate and explanation, to the installation by Roger and his crew, everything was professionally handled. We are very pleased with the outcome-the improvement in both outside noise level and climate control is remarkable. Equally as important, the workmanship is excellent and the crew was great-friendly, efficient, and did impeccable clean-up.

First, I had to repeatedly reschedule due to a back injury. Then, when they came, they were more than happy to do some of the prep work I should have done-moving furniture, taking down blinds, etc. I asked them to put the blinds back up in the master bedroom and bathroom, since I still wasn't up to that, and they put ALL of the blinds back, including those that needed new holes drilled, etc. The entire team was polite, considerate, and more than happy to go the extra mile to help me out with the things I couldn't do because of my back. You can certainly buy a more expensive window, and it may or may not be any better than the windows Skyline sells. But I doubt you'll find a more considerate team of installers.

I thought this service was impeccable. They were very kind gentleman. They would never swear or use any foul language, they are easy to work with, they did everything in an orderly fashion, and they were great with everything. They were even good about installing an irregular window that most places would not do. All I can say is positive things about them. They were the best.

Fabulous! I interviewed five different companies and chose Skyline because of their pleasant, non-hassle demeanor, understanding of my project, attention to detail during the initial presentation and overall cost of the project. Everyone I dealt with has been knowledgeable, professional and easy to work with. My new Precision doors and Sugarcreek storm doors were custom made to the exact measurements. Skyline owner himself came and personally installed my doors. They showed up on time and even came back the next day to finish up a bit of detail work (on a Saturday morning!) and offered to install my own special doorknocker, too. They cleaned up after themselves and after all the work was done, you couldn't tell that they had been there at all. They even worked with my security company to reinstall wiring for the door alarms. I now have safe, solid and secure doors and I am happy. HIGHLY recommend. I will use Skyline for my new windows next year.
