Better house sitters than dog walkers. Service is not capable of handling large or energetic or high performing dogs. Continually wanted to use a choke collar on my GSD puppy. Walks were rigid and sedate. No real play or enjoyment of the pup. Were always prompt, reliable, and did leave the house neat during overnights. I changed because I didn't think they were giving the puppy enough exercise and their methods were forceful and too rigid. The dog was much happier when I switched.

"Hello I remember you and your lovely dog very well. When our walker and I suggested using a no slip collar, it was because we were concerned about your dog's safety. She was very anxious around cars , trucks and bikes and we were worried that she would slip out of the collar that you provided for us. I recall that Banshee was high energy and needed a good exercise walk. I actually contemplated referring you to the very same company that you decided to switch to but you stopped service before I had the chance. I am happy it worked out for you and that your dogs are doing well. The owner of the company you decided to use back then told me that you added another dog to the family. That's great. You last used our services in February of 2009. That was a long time ago and we have added numerous clients and walkers to the Villaridge family. Many of the dogs we walk are large dogs and I assure you that the owners of these dogs feel confident that our walkers do an excellent job handling them. We wish you and your pups all the best. Rhoda Otero, co owner of Villaridge Pet Sitters"

This was the first time I've used them. They were very professional and very courteous. It was very pleasant and I liked them. I would probably use them again.

Reliable and did fine at house sitting. However, the walker could not handle a growing German Shepherd without difficulty and kept insisting she wanted to use a prong collar on the dog which I am against. With regular training the dog is tremendously well behaved but I felt that this service was not going to give the dog enough real exercise ( including running) and was incapable of reinforcing my training techniques. I switched off of them to another service. They'd be fine for older, smaller dogs.

Not sure why it took so long, but we finally made the decision to get mid-day home visits for our household of now 3 dogs. Sarah connected with me almost immediately when I contacted VillaRidge thru their website and came for an initial meeting with us in our home and to introduce us to Linnea, who would be our primary contact. We chatted awhile until we came up with what we really wanted for our furbabies. Not only was that initial visit amazing in how both greeted and handled our pets, but Linnea has been great in accommodating adjustments to our schedule and developing a routine that worked for us. Although the stifling summer weather has prevented the initial plan for mid-day dog walks right now, Linnea spends outside time with them under the shade of trees for some exercise, fresh air, and human voice and touch when we cannot provide that, especially for our puppy. It has been great, and I don't so much mind being out of the house for several hours knowing that such reliable relief is available for the dogs. We get daily notes, emails and/or text messages so that any questions are promptly answered on both our parts, and when a window or garage door is left open on our way out, Linnea connects with us to assure that our home and dogs are secured as they should have been. It has been a great partnership in a very short time! Wish we had done this sooner!

We have used Villaridge for over two years, and remain extremely pleased with the organization's professionalism, proactivity, responsiveness and caring. We view our dog as a 4-legged member of our family, and the staff at Villaridge behave in a similar manner.
Dogs show honesty in their behavior, and it is clear by our dog's reaction to Steve that he cares for her and that she trusts him. That, in the end, is most telling review of the service Villaridge provides. Thank you!

Have used Villa Ridge for several years to take care of our two cats
whenever we are away. Never had a problem. Also was very helpful
during Hurricane Sandy when we were stuck on the West Coast and could
not get home. Highly recommend.

I used Villaridge approx 8 years ago, but forgot their name. I was so glad to find them again on Angie's List. I had my two labs walked twice daily for eight weeks after having surgery. Steve still walks my dogs twice weekly now - I've kept him on because my dogs absolutely LOVE STEVE, and it gives me time to meet with friends. I just say his name, and both dogs run to the door and sit staring at it, then go nuts when they hear the garage door opening. I've even called Villaridge at the last minute to schedule walks. I can't say enough about their services.

I can't say enough positive things about this company and the ladies who run it. They are tops in my book. My two dogs were dogs that we adopted from a rescue organization so they were timid around strangers. That was not the case the first time Rhoda walked in the house. It was like they had found an old friend. She showed love and affection towards all of our pets. Every instruction that I left regarding their care and routine was carried out. I also had the pleasure of meeting Sarah in person when I returned from one of my trips. She was busy washing out the food bowls and the other young lady who came with her was in the backyard playing with the dogs. During one of our trips one young lady of the team took photos of our pets and left them on the kitchen table for us, along with a note giving us feedback as to how things went during each of the three visits. All three of those photos are framed and sitting on our fireplace mantel to this day. Unfortunately, we had to have the cat, April, put to sleep shortly after that trip and we cherish that photo the worker (I think her name was Jennifer) took of April. Not many pet sitters show that kind of love and compassion. Their actions tell me that they are not just in the business to make money but also to provide the best care possible. As long as I'm living in this area there will only be one pet sitter organization for me, and that is the one that is run by Rhoda and Sarah.

Rhoda and company are great - their walkers care for our dog just as much as we do and they are incredibly flexible in their scheduling. If we have a last-minute cancellation, we are not charged for it and if we have a last-minute need for a walk Rhoda works with us to make sure our dog is taken care of. A great company.

Dog Walking
One of the co-owners of Villaridge Pet Sitters, Rhoda Otero, was walking a neighbor's pit bull mix off leash when the dog attached my dog pinning her down by the neck. Rhoda did nothing to try and intervene, refused to give me her name and claimed that the reason she was walking the dog off leash was because the dog's leash was broken. A neighbor who observed the attack from her balcony said she was watching the dog at the time because she was angry the walker brought the dog outside off leash. After I found out who the dog walker was, I spoke with the owner of the dog, who said Rhoda told her of the attack and that my dog was fine, despite the fact Ms. Otero had no knowledge as to the condition of my dog. My dog was examined by a vet the next day and while the skin was not broken, she was unable to stand up on the side she was grabbed for the first day or so and was sore for several days after. While I consider Ms. Otero's sins many - not having a backup leash, refusing to identify herself, not confirming the well being of my dog, recounting an event to a dog owner without verification - any dog walker who would take an aggressive dog out, or non-aggressive one for that matter, without a leash is no professional in my book. I would not want anyone taking my dog outside off leash for fear she would be lost or injured, and living in a neighborhood with no yards, I would be particularly concerned my dog could be hit by a car.
Response from Villaridge Pet Sitters LLC
"My name is Rhoda Otero and I am the co owner of Villaridge Pet Sitters. I happened to stumble upon this review and am shocked that someone would post something that is untrue. I have absolutely no knowledge of this incident. May I ask when and where this was suppose to have happened? Anyone that knows me will tell you that I would never walk a dog off leash no matter what. All our walkers know of this policy as well. This is obviously a case of mistaken identity or someones attempt to damage our company's good reputation. The only issue I ever had in all the years that I have been walking dogs, occurred in Reston a few years back. The dog I was walking on a retractable leash unexpectedly bolted which caused her leash to tear. She charged at another dog being walked by a woman in the West Market neighborhood near the Reston Town Center. Both the woman and I yelled at my clients dog to stop but she made brief contact with the other dog and may have hurt her. My clients dog then stopped and backed away and sat down several feet away. The woman came up to my clients dog and kicked her which caused my clients dog to run. My first priority was to secure the dog and once I did, I asked the woman if she and her dog were ok and she proceeded to walk away from me..She did her best for the next several months to bad mouth me and my company all around the West Market Neighborhood and put nasty notes on my clients garage door about her dog. I spoke to the owner of the company that walked this woman's dog on a regular basis shortly after this incident and was told that the dog was ok and I left it at that. I felt that she was very out of line kicking my clients dog but admit that I could have tried to make contact with her at the time. I don't know if she is the one that has made the above claim but I just described the incident a few years ago and there are not that many similarities. The dog I was walking was not a pit bull mix. The leash broke during our walk so I was not walking the dog off leash. There was no other walker involved that I was angry with. I respectfully request that this very damaging comment by (Member Name) be taken off immediately and if she is the woman that was involved in the incident a few years ago, she may want to retell the story and this time tell the truth. I will also offer to reimburse her for the vet trip that she made because that is the only thing I wish I had done differently back then. I am sure that she was angry with me at the time but for her to kick my clients dog after the dog backed off and sat was inappropriate. I would be happy to speak to (Member Name) about this if she wishes but again, I insist that her comments are untrue and they need to be removed. Thank you so much. Rhoda Otero"

We are very pleased with Villaridge. The staff has always been very pleasant, punctual and love our animals. We have used their services for several years and found that having them dog sit (stay at our house) or walk the dogs several times while we are gone is cheaper than boarding two large dogs. There are many times where we have called them last minute and they have been able to fit us in. I would and have recommended them.

Sarah and Rosemary were terrific. They gave me peace of mind when I was unsure of who would be able to watch the kitten over a holiday weekend. I will definitely use their service in the future, and I would recommend them to anyone who wants their "family" to be loved while they are away.

Very well. They are great to our pup, take care of cleaning him up when it rains, provide tips on puppy training and work with us to make sure we are all giving the pup the same guidance. They leave notes for us each visit to let us know how it goes.

Both Sarah and Rosemary arrive at our house on time and always provide much more than their advertised services; they use the phrase "in pet care for life" and that commitment shows in everything they. We have one dog with some aggression issues, Sarah and Rosemary volunteered their time to work with our trainer to learn the most effective methods of handling the issues in a positive manner and they consistently support the dog in overcoming her fears. I have absolute faith in their care of my dogs, not only their care but their love of the dogs. Both dogs run to greet Sarah and Rosemary and the affection between them is always evident. I actually enjoy going out and traveling more now because I have no concerns about the care, attention and affection that my dogs receive while I am away and this is such a tremendous relief.
