"We thank the member for reporting back to Angie's List. We were pleased to be able to provide information about the services the member was seeking and would be happy to discuss any further needs at a future time."
"We appreciate the member's candor in this report. Of course, we would hope that anyone reading this will bear in mind that comparing prices is, frequently, not comparing apples to apples. Even if, for example, the square footage of a deck or patio were the same, this does not mean that construction techniques, materials and/or business practices are all equal. Our margin of profit is not excessive; but we are a licensed Class A BLD contractor with worker's comp insurance. These, before ever getting to the subject of differences in materials and workmanship, are factors which protect our clients but drive up price. A low price is not difficult to achieve in the somewhat complicated world of licensed and correctly managed contracting when one is willing to short change safeguards which protect the consumer. Our experience shows that these are usually the reasons that our prices are "significantly higher than other bidders". There is always a reason for price differences. We would not have stayed in business with a good reputation as long as we have, I suspect, if there was not some logical explanation for a higher price. We contend that our prices are fair and competitive when compared with any other properly licensed, insured and qualified contractor. The 2011 Cost vs Value report available online will bear this out. Thank you to the member for their report and thank you to the reader for considering our response."
"We do appreciate the member's report. The member's family has a lovely home overlooking a park like setting. We certainly hope we can be of service to them in the near future."
"This home was quite unique with interesting design implementations both inside and out. It was a real pleasure to add our custom exterior color windows to the already attractive interior."
"The Members were awesome to work with. Delightful people. It's only fitting that they have a lovely home to enjoy. They deserve it. We were quite pleased to assist them in making their master suite a more comfortable sanctuary in which to spend time."
"I have checked and do not have any record of the member's request for a bid. Having said that, I must admit that his name does sound familiar to me. It is very possible that I made an honest mistake and confused his appt with another that may have cancelled. I suppose it is also possible that that the member may have mistaken our company for another that let him down but I completely willing to assume blame for this unfortunate situation. There was a prospective customer who called us from Woodbridge and commented that he was 'just around the corner'. After speaking for a few minutes, we realized that the services he was seeking were not part of our core competencies. We mutually agreed that he would be best served by seeking the services of another contractor. The phone call ended quite amicably. It may be that I confused this customer with the member request and, thus, cancelled any further follow up. As to the alleged promises made by me, I may have said something on the order of "Let me see if I can get over there today" or some such thing; especially if Mr. Morris told me to come by anytime as clients occasionally do. I have, in all honesty, made that mistake once or twice before; with all good intentions, telling someone that I will 'stop by' when I can. Of course, all parties would be better served by setting a specific appt time. But, typically, if I am promising something, I will always set an appt. A review of every other comment from Angie's List customers gives us A ratings for courtesy, professionalism, punctuality and responsiveness and should speak to the fact that we are not knowingly careless about our prospective customers' time. We always intend to be respectful of the schedule of others and endeavor at all times to treat others the way we would like to be treated and that, of course, includes respecting the time that they set aside to meet with us. As I have no record of Mr. Morris, his phone number or email, I have no way to reach him but should he choose to call me, I would be more than happy to personally apologize for what appears to be a mistake on my part, a mishandling of his request for a consultation, and, clearly, an offense to him personally. I appreciate Angie's List customers for reading this and considering that, as we often say, "we are staffed by humans". When we make a mistake, please point out our error and we will make every reasonable effort to correct our mistakes. I am unsure as to the reason for Mr. Morris' vitriolic response to us but, again, I would be happy to extend my apologies and I wish him the very best in finding the right contractor to assist him with his outdoor project."
