The Ship's Cabin used to bring warm, freshly baked bread to the table with whipped butter and ALWAYS had elegant lighting on the table lit to create a relaxed atmosphere for stylish dining. They no longer do this and the food took longer than expected to arrive at the table, so we had ample opportunity to inspect the decor and discuss it at length.
My great nieces found condiment bottle caps in the sand filled table decorations, and these decorations also appeared to be filled with ACTUAL beach sand as opposed to some craft store purchased decorative sand. Is this even sanitary? Also, the tables had small oil lamps instead of candles but as sunset approached (ten to twenty minutes after we arrived) nobody came around to light them. Additionally there were an excessive number of "table tent" advertisements for beer and other alcohol-based beverages on the table and these looked tacky!
The uniforms of the wait staff also used to include cute Pirate-themed while silk blouses, black shorts and black nylons on the female waitresses to set the sea fairing mood. Today the "costumes" consist of ordinary black shirts and slacks and the wait staff did not appear at all enthusiastic about their jobs.
The vendor can greatly improve upon the dining experience by cleaning up the table decorations, inspecting them after each meal to insure no bottle caps or cigarette butts ended up in them, and lighting the candles at sunset while simultaneously dimming the lights in the restaurant at least twenty-five percent. All of these things would have improved the setting and helped restore my impression of the restaurant to its former high status.
The crab soup was very good.
The crabcakes were tasty!
If only the experience for my other family members had not been something to joke and laugh about afterwards! Also, at $26.86 per person including three children under the age of fifteen, I think the total price was a bit high. Only one adult beverage was purchased by our entire party and that was my birthday drink, which was of acceptable quality.
I might visit this restaurant again but it would be without family and friends until the atmosphere improves.
