I contacted Deck Builders for an estimate. Tommy came to our house on a Saturday afternoon. He listened to my request and looked at our backyard and original stairs. He said he would e-mail me Saturday night with an estimate. I hadn't heard anything from him by the following Tuesday. I e-mailed him that day and he e-mailed me the estimate later that evening. After that, we communicated by e-mail, which was convenient for me. Tommy was quick in responding and would explain things to me in terms that I could understand. We signed the contract and made a deposit so work could begin. The workers came on a Friday around 5pm. They set up and worked until 7pm. They came back Monday and finished the job. While building, the workers sawed and drilled pieces of lumber, spraying sawdust from pressure treated wood all over our newly seeded backyard. They left all of their construction materials and debris directly on the lawn. They said they would return the next day (Tuesday) to remove the materials and trash. When the debris was not removed by 9pm on Tuesday, I e-mailed Tommy informing him. The workers came back on Thursday and removed most of the materials except a for one large piece of lumber and various trash. I e-mailed Tommy on Friday telling him a large (over 10 foot long) piece of lumber was left behind and that the workers created a mess on our lawn. Sawdust was all over the backyard and there were screws and trash throughout. The workers came back on Monday evening. They sawed the remaining piece of lumber and added it to the landing. In doing so, they created more sawdust in the backyard. My husband filled a small trash bag with leftover debris and trash. I e-mailed Tommy one last time telling him that we weren't happy with the mess the workers left behind. Tommy only replied that the project was done. He didn't acknowledge our complaint or apologize for the mess.

Deck builders was able to start sooner than expected. The crew arrived on time, tore down the old deck, and began on the new deck. It took about a week from start to finish. The crew did a fantastic job, cleaned up the debris and gave us a beautiful deck.

We are satisfied with their work, and the people were great. They cleaned up after themselves and everything worked out well. The deck is beautiful.

The team consisted of 2-3 workers. I had some issues when they originally installed the deckmaster brackets. The brackets were not installed as it is recommended in Deckmaster installation guide. The foreman assured me that additional screws would be added to the brackets. The rest of the installation went fairly smoothly. Tommy Harper who was the sales person was very responsive to questions or concerns, as was the foreman, Ricardo. The additional support beam was installed free of charge, labor/parts. The trim around the edge of the deck was also added to match neighbors design, again, free of charge.

It was outstanding! I am very pleased! They were very professional. They finished on time. They gave me a date, and it was finished on the day that they said. We are very happy with the work. We have gotten compliments from friends about the job. They came more than once to adjust different designs for me. They were very friendly.

This was a very positive experience. Tommy showed up promptly for our estimate appointment. He was friendly and professional. Got down to business quickly, took a few measurements and asked some questions on what we wanted. Not a lot of sales pitch and nonsense, which was much appreciated after sitting through a long sales pitch earlier from a competitor. We got our estimate within a day or two. It came in at about $7,000 lower than competitors. Based on price and positive reviews from Angie's List, we quickly signed a contract. Ricardo and his crew showed up as scheduled and did a great job. They worked a full 8 hours over about 7 business days. Never any drama and they are nice folks; these workers were a pleasure to have at our home. Clean up was very thorough. When we needed to ask Tommy something he was always available via his cell phone. The only small issue we see is that some of the deck floor boards are a slightly different shade than the others. Tommy and Ricardo have assured me that they will blend in within a few months of exposure to the elements, but it would have been nice to have everything looking perfect from the beginning.

This team delivered--figuring out a new configuration (even patient with our changes right as the project started); working around terrible weather conditions; dealing with the county inspector changes; working over weekend days; showing pride in their work. We were very happy with the ultimate result--a fabulous looking deck that we've enjoyed every day since!

We worked with Jeff to design the deck of our choice. He was very patient as we chose our materials and changed our minds a few times about what we wanted. The deck is just what we had hoped for, if not more. We would highly recommend this company to others. Their work was thorough yet very timely. They had the deck done in three days and it involved digging to put in deep posts to support the deck.

After receiving 3 estimates I chose Deck Builders because they were providing the most product for the cost and this was after an upgrade of the lumber [much lower than other companies that were going to use some of the existing materials]. It was a pleasure to work with Tommy and Deck Builders. They began the project a few days earlier than expected and everything moved very quickly [started on a Thursday; finished product by following Monday (no weekend work)]. The craftsmanship is incredible and the detail for a "basic" deck design is outstanding - my only requests were for a larger deck with stairs, nothing fancy [I can only imagine how a "specialty" design would be executed]. Boy, was I a happy homeowner when I got home from work and saw the finished product - I have, by far, the best looking deck in my quadrant [if not the neighborhood]. And, they added lights on the stairs at no extra cost. I would recommend Deck Builders to any homeowner looking to expand their outdoor living space with a deck or similar structure. Deck Builders ROCKS ! ! !

Contacted Deck Builders through Angie's List. Lived up to billing. Removal of old deck, construction of 20 x 12 deck with 21 x 12 screened in porch, plus the removal of front stairs and installation of new Trex maintenance free stairs was well within budget and far less than other commercially advertised businesses. Final product added great value to our property in Arlington, Virginia. Estimate was prompt, build began prior to expectations, work was was well above expectations. Quality workmanship, prompt and professional. Started earlier than expected, but took longer than expected due to weather. Near the end of the project project slowed, probably due to weather and other commitments. Final details needed to be emphasized. Withheld final payment until they were addressed, and they were. These were very minor issues, such as clean up. Overall they did a very professional job that I would recommend them to anyone. Electrical work for ceiling fan and outlets done by subcontractor. He is excellent, affordable and would recommend him for jobs. Work crew is knowledgeable, professional and hard working. Sometimes, difficult to always contact PM when you needed to get an answer to a question, but when you did contact him, he was always approachable, professional and consumer oriented. Believe they have a lot of business because of the quality of their work.

We are very pleased with our deck. Tommy and Jeff came out for an estimate and were very helpful with ideas. There was no pressure involved and their price was significantly lower than another company. They started when they said they would and they finished ahead of what they projected. The deck was well done and we're very happy with the craftsmanship. They cleaned up the site and it all went very smoothly. We highly recommend the company.

It took them less than two weeks to complete it during the winter. All the guys were very courteous and did an extremely fantastic job. They were very consistent and the quality was top notch. They also did a wonderful job of cleaning up.

This was one of the most positive contractor experiences we ever had. The sales person (Tommy) was extremely helpful, coming to our home on a Saturday morning. He explained all options but was not at all high pressure. The work actually started and ended well before we thought. The workers were polite, considerate, and worked FULL days-from about 8 a.m. till almost 8 p.m. each night-the job took only five days (there were three days they could not work because they were waiting for the county inspector to approve the structure before they could completely finish. That was not their fault).

I can only speak to the two man crew we had, with Luis as foreman, but they were absolutely outstanding! They started work a week after we got HOA approval, showing up on Mon morning (30 Apr.) as promised. They estimated 4-5 days for the work, and actually finished on Sun morning (6 May). They had to wait most of one day on an inspector and lost a half day due to wx (rain). I cannot say enough good things about Luis and his work, his professionalism, work ethic, willingness to explain everything being done, perform minor changes I requested, attention to detail, etc. Crew picked up each night and at completion, set aside old deck materials I wanted and put the rest in their dumpster, etc. They even moved lawn chairs in, too, when we were out and the rain started. We provided them with cold drinks when we were home and they were always very appreciative, polite, etc. A very positive experience and I would highly recommend them; great people and great workers!

Tim showed up on time and gave us a fair assessment of what had to be done and what didn't need replacement. The original support posts were built above code and were left as is. He didn't try to sell us unneeded upgrades but made good suggestions, such as the lighting and bench design. The work was started and done within the projected time.

PRICE WAS AVERAGE & WORKMANSHIP WAS EXCELLENT. I WOULD USE THEM AGAIN, AND RECOMMEND THEM.
