"Thank you for the feedback and the compliments. Family Electric appreciates your business and we look forward to you calling us again when we can be of service. Regards, Linda - Family Electric Admin. Asst./Office Mgmr."
I was very pleased with Family Electric, I told them it was a very small job but they were still happy to help me. Since it was small a job (and I have a lot of flexibility with being home with short notice) they called me to let me know of a cancellation to get the work done a few days earlier than expected, and their staff arrived right when I was told they would.
They reattached my meter to the house, fixed my front lights (one was rewired incorrectly by the siding contractor), and as a last minute request, removed some wiring that was left from when Virginia Power came out and removed a demand response program box and just left a tube laying there with wiring still attached. I was told when I called that they had a base call/travel fee and then an hourly rate, but if the work didn't take long, they'd only charge me for a half-hour. The work was quick, and they only charged me for a half-hour as offered. The total cost was just a little bit more than the service call fee I would have paid through my home warranty company to fix only the front lights. Would definitely use them again for any electrical items not covered by my home warranty!
- - Arrived when promised
- - Completed all the requested work
- - Provided extra service to install the generator battery charger
- - Left the work area clean

I would advise to make sure you consider work it takes to patch up the holes that adding recessed lighting will leave behind. They did a great job so the holes were unavoidable, but consider the cost of that repair into your overall project cost.
Were it not for some bad weather that delayed their return visit, this would have been a 2 day, and not 3 week job.
I would recommend and will continue to use this company for our electrical needs.
"We at Family Electric appreciated all the work and the opportunity. Family Electric values their customers tremendously! The weather did play a factor in completing this job in a more timely fashion. Regards, Linda w/Family Electric"
The day of installation, the senior tech told me that the half an hour of time that was used for our first meeting and estimation was to be deducted from the two hour time limit. Also any type of material they used I would have to pay for the material. I replied that I thought we went over the material list so I could have everything ready for them. I told them sincee they were only allowed an hour and a half, get in as many as they can. They got five out of six installed and I ended up cleaning up.
I thought speaking with the owner on the initial phone coversation and asking specific questions I wouldn't have any surprises
When I called the company ( left messages) after the installation to inquiry about the surprises that were not discussed prior to the installation. I never got a returned phone call.
"Family Electric would like to thank [member name removed] for the work provided. With regards to her purchase of the Angie's Big Deal ($99.00) for up to 2 Hours of Electrical Labor there were some limitations that were provided in the FINE PRINT. First - in this case estimates were not a part of the deal before the work was to be done. We showed up at her house expecting to do the work as scheduled and she was looking for an estimate at this time not the actual work. We provided an estimate and in doing so she used up some of the time allotted for the deal. The big deal also stated two electricians for an hour or one electrician for two hours. Family Electric did state in talking with her that we send two electricians to perform the work - therefore it was an hour of work provided for $99.00. This deal specifically stated it was for LABOR only not materials. The coupon also stated the additional labor hours above the coupon value would be priced at $95.00 an hour. [Member name removed] may have provided some material for the job but additional material was needed and provided by Family Electric and there was a charge for that material. Family Electric did return [member name removed]'s phone calls and a reminder call was provided the day before the appointment. Again - we thank [removed member name] for the work. Regards, Family Electric"
However, please read the "Big Deal" fine print, the technician assistant counts as a second person. So that cuts your 2 hours down to 1 hour of service for $111.00, which is more than they normally charge per hour ($99). I wasn't given the option to choose 1 technician so that I could get my full 2 hours of service. Also I was charge $24.50 for each GFCI outlet that was replaced. I looked online at lowes and the average GFCI price was around $15.00, so I feel like I was charged an extra $100 (1/2 hour of service + $10 per outlet).
I do feel more comfort knowing that things are working fine. I would work with this company again, I will be more prepared and ask more questions about pricing.
"I would like to thank you for the work and that she would use us again. This is the only entirely "B" rating we have EVER received. All ratings have been "A".We should not be punished for a customer not reading the detail of the Deal. She indicated that BOTH personnel worked efficiently and separately from each other. Our standard practice is to have 2 personnel on a truck for many reasons. These employees even went out of their way to obtain like fixtures. The member needs to recognize that our standard charge is $99/hour plus a $69 trip charge-she also needs to recognize that Angies needs to be paid from this Deal as well. All that said,we again thank her for her business and look forward to her calling us again."
Scheduling the work was easy, with about a 1 week lag time. Family Electric was very accommodating with my work schedule. I stayed home the first day, which was helpful as there were some questions about exact placement of the new recessed lights. The two electricians doing the work were very professional and offered good solutions to the inevitable little problems that can arise in any job. I felt comfortable having the electricians return to my home the next day without needing to be there. They completed all of the lighting work rapidly, and the drywall was patched within a few days. Any mess was well cleaned at the end of each day.
The job turned out beautifully. Absolutely no issues with this job at all. Family Electric is terrific to work with, does high quality work, and is reasonably priced.
"Many thanks to the customer for his work and his professionalism in dealing with us.It was a pleasure for our crew.We are also beholden for his referral of another generator installation referral. We believe that referral says it all about Family Electric's work and customer's confidence and appreciation with our generator services.I cannot understand why we did not get an "A" for price since he stated"Had met with others, found Steve more helpful and a good price".We realize that the propane installation left something to be desired ;however, since the customer already had propane service at his home,he indicated that he was going to handle the work directly.All-in-all,a great working relationship was had between the customer and Family Electric."
The guys showed up precisely at the start time, and got right to work. They were quiet and clean, and provided me with options based on our specific wiring situation. All in, the appointment was 1.25 hours, so I paid an additional $45 for the labor, plus $88 for the parts.
