"Dear Member, this is a perfect example of what seems to the home owner to be a “simple” fix. Quality contractors with many years of experience know that there could be underlying structural issues and damage that would make the job, and the cost, much more complicated. We would not give you a final price at initial viewing of your leak for several reasons. We would have had to do more investigation that may have involved some demo work to find out where the leak was coming from and what unseen damage might be present. This could have resulted in a short and easy fix, or depending on the heart of the problem, a much more complicated one. It would have been unfair to you to set a price in the consultation, then begin the work to find out you would have had to be charged more than was stated.
