Rick's Iron Works Inc

Rick's Iron Works gave me a very reasonably priced estimate for repairing a wrought iron fence that I subsequently decided to remove. Had I decided to repair it, Rick's would definitely have gotten the job by virtue of their honesty and fair price.

The company had a backlog of work and it seemed like it took forever for them to get around to performing the job. But once they did, the work itself was outstanding. They went beyond what I asked for and painted the ornamentation once it was installed. The difference was visual and remarkable.

It went extremely well. They carefully measured and customized the ironwork to suit my specifications and stairs. They came out several times to measure and actually test fit before powdercoating and installing.

When I needed security bars, I had three companies come out, take measurements, and give estimates. Rick's had the best selection, and the best prices, especially given the ornate and complex design I'd asked for. Everyone at the company was very nice, and very professional. I received a proposal for the project, including hand-drawn diagrams of exactly what the bars would look like superimposed on a photo of my windows. Great experience so far. They told me it would take 4 to 6 weeks to create the bars, and that was about right, maybe a little longer. But, when they came to install the window bars, 2 of the 3 panels they'd made were the wrong measurements. They installed the one that was correct, and we rescheduled. Several weeks later, after hearing nothing, I called, and they quickly rescheduled another installation. This time, they hadn't brought the proper tools. They were able to install the second panel, though. Finally, another week or so later, they came back and finished the job. I'm happy with the results, but what should have taken 6 weeks and one installation day, ended up taking about 10 weeks and three installation days. I hate to complain, the price was right, the bars look great, and the installation team was extremely courteous and punctual. But the company seems a little disorganized.

My experience with Rick's went very well. The Rick's bid was lower than or equal to three other estimates that I had received, and they won the job based on the professionalism of their residential estimator. The estimator (Kenny) patiently talked through my design ideas with me, talked about various options, and then was able to locate specific design elements (i.e., collars) that I had requested, at minimal cost. They also were able to do the fabrication faster than other shops I had contacted. They arrived for the installation early in the promised window, and did a fast and clean installation job. The final price matched the estimate exactly. My only complaint was that the office did not call to schedule the installation, so they showed up at my door unexpectedly one morning. Fortunately, I was home! I suspect that this was a one time failure by the office staff, and not part of a pattern, otherwise they would not be in a good position to do business with homeowners (which is a large part, if not the majority, of their business). Honestly, though, there was little harm here: had I not been home, they would have had to come back at a mutually-convenient time anyway. I am now looking to have more iron work done on our property, and Rick's was the first phone call I made.

Found company through recommendation in Washingtonian Magazine. Company rep arrived promptly when scheduled and provided detailed estimate. Very knowledgeable and pointed out problems I had not yet discovered that needed to be repaired. Very professional, w/one catch. I did not hire them because they refused to provide references or contact information for people who had work done by them. They would provide "testimonials", but would not give me the locations of their jobs or contact information so that I could talk to anyone that they had worked for or so I could check out their work, stating that it was an invasion of their customer's privacy. They have been in business for over 20 years, so they can't be doing too bad, but when I originally made my request to the receptionist, she acted insulted and incredulous, as if my request was out of the ordinary. She passed my request on to Rick Jr, who returned my call and spoke to me about it, but never acted upon my request.
