When it came time to evaluate the designs, none of the competition allowed us to keep any of their plan diagrams (understandable and fair- I've seen ridiculous complaints here that OHI was withholding from a customer! That's absurd- they should protect their ideas, as should any decent business in the field), but we took good notes about what each of the competition could offer and the various prices. OHI had the best design, by far, although the price was only slightly more.
We selected OHI, because of how smoothly the design proposal process went with them. They were flexible in tweaking various ideas and brainstorming, before a final price could be settled upon. They were very transparent on the pricing process, which led us to believe that the project would go smoothly as we encountered issues and made necessary changes along the way. That proved to be the case. OHI was extremely accommodating and flexible throughout the construction process.
Each day, the house was put back together as neatly as possible. The work continued quickly, and we were kept informed throughout the construction.
We give OHI our highest rating, and we recommend them without any hesitance. We are in need of various items prior to renting out our house, and OHI has been helpful in taking a look to see what fixes can be made so that our future tenants will have minimal issues with the home while we are overseas. We considered selling our house, but the master bathroom that OHI designed and built is just SO good, that we cannot bear to leave the house!
We hired OHI Design to completely renovate our kitchen. Paul's design was superb - he fully met our needs and was very patient. The construction crew did an outstanding job in completing the project. The job involved a complete demo of our existing kitchen. New cabinets and appliances were installed. All plumbing and electrical work was flawlessly installed. The construction crew kept the work area very clean throughout the project. The new kitchen turned out very nice!! We are very happy with OHI Design and will use them again for future projects.
The issues are with the follow up from Rod and the rest of the office. We had needed to have some follow up for our punch list done for the floors. Weeks would go by after reaching out to Rod with no response. We would call or email again. This dragged on for a long time. Eventually, after some very confusing follow up and confrontation, we have moved on to get the items taken care of at our own cost.
NOT HAPPY with the Company, Very Unprofessional.
When things went wrong, everyone blamed some else. MANY THINGS WENT WRONG
Wrong Cabinets Ordered
Measurement Were Wrong
Counter Tops were Cut Wrong
Plumbing Had to be Redone
Project Took 5 Months (Contract -Final Payment) 3 Months without a finish kitchen
Project Manager Always had to get approval from
his Office
After so many issues and having us unhappy they
just stopped communicating. I sent them a check after haggling about
credits. I never heard back from them again after I mailed the check.
There was no Final Walk Through, and we never received our Warranty
information we were promised, I assumed the PM would come back and finish that. After
almost 14 months since signing the contract (September 1 2013) and looking at
one of the Light Switches that is different than the rest of the Kitchen.
I decided to complete my review.
I expected a Full Kitchen Remodel to be stressful, so we hired a company
with lots of experience to minimize that stress, it was not the case.
Mr. Ohi was prompt showing up for our appointment. On the first day he spent several hour taking measurements, He then made a second appointment with us to do a more thorough job. The second work-up was followed by a complete recommendation for the house as well as the name of a contracting firm to do the work, Pendrey Builders Inc.
Pendrey Builders Inc. and Dennis Antrey were a joy to work with. Our home of 40 years had sunk in several places and our basement had bulging walls. Mr. Autrey installed "carbon strips" to strengthen the walls in the basement. With the of his workers, we were able to move all of the things away from the walls so this work could be completed. Then the carport floor was removed, the carport and attached screened porch were raise, new support for the screened porch was installed and a new concrete floor for the carport floor was poured. It was hard heavy work which I appreciated very much.
Through all of this, Mr. Ohi was there checking measurements and making sure all of the work was going to his specifications.
Now any work done on the house can proceed from a sound base.
That was the easy part. The overall job was estimated to be about four weeks in duration, and a construction dumpster was placed in our driveway. The demolition was quick and efficient, but the rebuild work went on for much longer that we had expected or hoped. On some days, construction was postponed because one of the key workers was needed at another OHI job site. (My house actually had someone else's permits taped to a window, I later found.) On other days, it was evident that no work was performed at all without any explanation. The shower glass subcontractor cut the metal header parts in my garage and showered the garage with metal filings. They went everywhere and into everything. The was no suitable explanation for this and only a halfhearted effort to clean up the mess. And the plumber didn't properly seal the shower drain fitting, allowing water to flood the garage ceiling below. The wet sheetrock broke free of the joists and fell on my wife's car, and there was water and plaster everywhere. We took advantage of the dumpster to get rid of some accumulated junk, but that did not offset the inconvenience of having that thing in the driveway.
Overall, the work took about nine weeks. The finished product is terrific, especially the tile work, attributable to the up-front planning and some excellent craftsmanship. (The garage ceiling was nicely repaired, even beyond the water damage to fix sheetrock that was sagging due to heat and age. But there will be metal filings in the garage until after I move away.) We ended up paying twice what we had set as a working budget, but it was unrealistic as we had no experience with a project of this kind.
Most unfortunate is that we have yet to receive any contact from OHI again, either as a courtesy follow-up or to request a referral. I answered No to the question about using OHI in the future because there wasn't a Maybe option; perhaps there should be.
They started the project pretty close to the date to which we had all agreed and completed the project on time as well. The works that worked on the house every day were courteous, friendly, and fairly efficient. They cleaned up pretty well most days and did a good job letting us know when to expect their presence and when they weren't going to be there.
My chief complaint is in the final stage - painting. They brought in their painters who were clearly not that careful with the work. The walls were not sanded first, so the first paint job was messy and not up to our standards. They were good about taking the feedback and repainted, but the result still wasn't that great. It's a shame to do a good job on the installation and then have a miss on the finishing touches. We're still not super thrilled with the paint job, but the overall quality of the rest of the work was very good.
