Working with Arlington Fence on design options - excellent
They are smart and easy to work with.
Installer was late so I was not able to stay to see finished install.  Workmanship was good but fence was too high since I
Michael and people at Arlington fence were more than willing to come out and help adjust the fence. Great to work with, good work - highly recommended

We asked for a bid for approximately 150 feet of fence and 1300 square feet of deck.  Arlington Fence was part of a team bidding on the fence portion or the project. They were very responsive and worked with us on what type of fence and the installation. We had to unavoidably delay the project several weeks, they were understanding and resubmitted their bid with no increases in price despite the delay. We did not choose that team because of the price of the deck.

It was a good price and we liked the estimator that came out. We decided to go with another company when we do the work because they seemed more knowledgeable. He was on time, very professional and very friendly. I had to call to get the estimate.

Their prices were really high and I called them back to say that they had probably the highest price except for one other company. It took them 4 days to get us an estimate but he was professional.

They were to come out May 12 to give me an estimate.  They called and said they couldn't come out and rescheduled for yesterday, but then they called again and said they couldn't do it then either.
Response from Arlington Fence and Deck Company

"We are very sorry for the member's experience. Because we are experiencing a very high call volume at this time, we did need to re-schedule the estimate for the fence repairs. Unfortunately, due to our need to re-schedule, she had a bad experience with our firm. Again, we are very sorry for not being able to provide the level of service that our potential customer was expecting. We will continue to improve our overall operation. Thanks, Michael A. Stefanon - Owner/President"

Arlington Fence was very professional from the start to the finish.  The representatives would call back promptly, communicate honestly regarding the estimates, and were willing to work around my schedule.  Even though my job was relatively small, they were never impatient to take time to discuss details.  Their workers seemed experienced and got the job done quickly.  After a year and a half the fence is not showing any issues.  It definitely wasn't the cheapest job, but that was also a function of the quality materials and the high percentage of gate.

We were happy with the estimate we received, and we chose them based on that, and the reports I read on Angie's List. After the estimate, they predicted they could do the work quicker than they actually could, so that was a little disappointing. But we were very happy with the work that they did. They could have cleaned up a little better, but other than that, the fence looks great.

Very well. Punctual, efficient - didn't take too long - and came up with the best possible solution for my problem, I believe. They were willing to work with me on pricing and gave me a few options for what we could do. I appreciate the attention to customer service. My neighbor was also happy with the result.

Estimate was punctual and courteous. The installation was started on the day they said it would be done and completed in the amount of time indicated. Installation was done well, everything was straight and works as it should. It makes the house look completely different. Follow - up to determine my satisfaction was via email and phone, a nice touch.

My experience from the moment I called to get and estimate to the time they actually came to install the fence was very positive. Everything went smoothly.

Arlington Fence Co was a very strong competitor for our fence project--a residential, 6' tall black coated chain link fence with two 3' gates and two 10' gates and about 475 linear feet of fencing. They sent out Jonathan to walk around the area with me and discuss our ideas and options. Jonathan was superb! He was very polite, clear and concise on the details of the fence materials they offered, said he would follow up with an estimate by email, and then did so just as promised. They certainly provided "white glove" service at all times with me--several email exchanges and a couple of phone calls. Always particularly polite, eager to earn our business, but not pushing a hard sell. After we got all of our estimates we selected one of their competitors based only on price--both had outstanding service records and were multiple-award winners. They are not the least expensive, but their quality is very high and what service we saw gave us complete confidence that they would have done a great job all the way through.

Spectacularly well! Using Angies List, I contacted 4 providers with excellent ratings and received 4 proposals. Arlington Fence's was the lowest cost (in one instance, by over $1,500). Their team showed up on the appointed day and completed the work in a day or two. They were a pleasure to work with from start to finish, and they removed the old fence and all debris. Totally professional at every step of the way. I could not be more pleased.

UPDATE: I still like these guys, but I had a situation arise which disturbed me. Around a year after the fence was put in, I noticed one of the slats had fallen. I put it back on, and there it stayed for a while. Then, it fell down again, and again, I put it back on. I felt that, if I only had to do this once every couple of months or so, then no big deal. Then, over time, it started happening more often. I contacted Arlington Fence and discussed it with someone, and then had email follow-ups about it. I sent them a photo, and the person with whom I dealt (Michael Stefanon - who was very nice and respectful) concluded that it was most likely that the post had shifted. I assured him that no damage had been done to the fence, and that no one was sitting on it, nor had the fence been stressed in any way other than normal wear and tear and weather. I asked them to come out and fix it, and at that point, was told that it was out of warranty (one year warranty). He offered to do it for $125 rather than the $300+ dollars they would normally charge ( which, to reseat one post, would have been outrageous ). In my humble opinion, for something that I paid them thousands of dollars for and which should last many, many years (which is the reason I upgraded to this kind of fence in the first place), a first class place, under these circumstances and for the first and only time I've had any problem with the work performed, should have come by (at their convenience I told them... I was in no hurry and assured them that even if they were not in the neighborhood for months, that would be fine) and fixed it without charge. Again, they put the post in and absolutely nothing was done to it to cause the post to shift. They were unwilling to do this. I'm not mad. I still think of them as a good company, but a GREAT company would have taken care of me.

We did not choose to go with this fence contractor, but only because we met with them as well as another contractor within the same week, and the other contractor got us a quote faster. I was impressed with Arlington Fence's professionalism and polite manner. I would definitely recommend that others call them for an estimate as their prices are fair and competitive. I would have hired them if I could have hired both!

They accommodated my wish for very specific gate widths and beautifully arched the tops. I had estimates from three different companies but the others weren't willing to give me exactly wheat I wanted. A lot of workers were sent out to get the job done in one day and they were all very pleasant for the most part. The foreman communicated professionally and efficiently and my every wish was granted. A large tree on the property line was boxed in nicely and the workers were mindful of the roots (which I appreciated). A couple of the workers didn't want to attach boards on both sides of the fence behind a tool shed because of the tight fit. I didn't appreciate the "dumb honey" explanation they were trying to feed me so I promptly called the pleasant young guy who did the estimate and told me it could be done. The problem was squashed immediately and a creative solution that didn't involve a person fitting in tight spaces appeared (they knew how to do it all along it just took a little more effort). The posts were left 14 or 15 inches above the top of the fence line for future installation of 1 foot of latice. Every thing turned out great and they even took out five remaining posts from an old chain link fence at no additional cost though the posts were not in their way. Everything was cleaned up and they were very careful not to do damage to the landscape. The fence matches the neighbor's existing fence for a seamless look.

I can't tell you what a great experience this has been. We live 1400 miles away from our new home in Manassas, VA. With a pictures from Google Maps, some emails and phone calls, Michael at Arlington Fence installed a gtreat looking wood fence, at a great price and exactly where it should be. What should have been impossible has been the easiest part of this cross country move. I can't thank or praise this company enough!

This report is about quality of work, pricing, and fairness to customers. In 2009, I hired Arlington Fence (AF) to install a pressure treated pine fence along the back side of my property line as well as a double-door cedar gate to the backyard. My next door neighbor shared the cost of the fence and also had a gate installed by AF. This year I asked AF for an estimate to install a fence on the other back side of my property as well as to adjust the gate they installed as it was jamming and the latch was not engaging. As for quality of work, operation of the gate installed by AF deteriorated over time ? the doors jammed and the latch did not engage (my next door neighbor had a similar problem). I reported this problem to AF and they responded by cutting an abutting gate slat to allow the gate to swing more freely. This was a short-cut fix as the problem soon resurfaced and, in fact, worsened as the gate doors jammed with more force and became very difficult to open. I reported this to AF nearly three months ago. They promised to look at the gate again but there has been no followup. The fundamental problem was that AF had not installed the gate posts properly. The problem was ultimately resolved by Carter Brothers Fence which had to install new posts. The gate now works fine. AF provided an estimate for the new work that would hold for 30 days. Prior to the 30-day window I asked the estimator to add a small amount of additional fence work adjacent to the gate and on the other side of the house. The estimator promised to revise my estimate within a week. Instead, the estimate arrived three weeks later and included a price increase for the work contained in the original estimate. When I asked AF to adhere to its original price estimate on the grounds that the revised estimate did not arrive in the time period promised the president of AF responded that their estimate is based on current pricing, is competitive, and ??cannot be adjusted downward to accommodate your dissatisfaction.? This response seemed arrogant and, I believe, unfair in view of the delayed response in providing the revised estimate. As to the ?competitive? nature of AF pricing, I have since had all of the work done by Carter Brothers Fence for 20% less than the AF estimate, including fixing the gate problem noted above. Clearly, I should have contacted Carter in 2009
Response from Arlington Fence and Deck Company

"Dear Angie's List Members, Because we take the Member's posting very seriously, we want you to know that we are attempting to work with him to more accurately document the facts of the experience. While this is an isolated case, we are reviewing our estimating process to see how we may have been able to avoid producing such an unhappy customer. I invite you to review the countless other Angie's List postings to see what other members have to say about their experience with Arlington Fence Company. Thanks, Michael A. Stefanon President"

Michael and company were very prompt with estimates and conducted the work ahead of schedule. The workers could have been a little more tidy in cleaning up after themselves (vinyl shavings), but they were not excessively sloppy. The fence came out beautifully and at the best price of 3 estimates fro Angie's List "A" contractors.

Needed common back fence between two Reston townhouses replaced 12' long and 6' high, intermittent slacks with see through vertical slots. They always answered the phone, made promt appointments and kept them. Discussed improved engineering features I could incorporate over the 38 year old rotting fence, that would still meet Reston approval. Arrived on time within minutes, had lots of the new fence precut for speedy contruction. Mixed concrete on site without spilling a drop or spoiling the lawn, set 3 vertical posts in concrete. Had it neatly constructed by mid-day (2 men an supervisor), cleaned up everything by 2PM had all of the old pieces out ofthere and gone. Very professional, kne exactly what they were doing, great looking fence. Advice on how long to let the wood age before staining. A well run business, great phone manners and promptness, professional on site. Definitely give them an A.
