Consistent problems with all aspects of service. Missed pickups and spilled containers. There are particular problems when it is inclement weather. Moreover the Management will not credit the pre-paid costs for 'missed' pick-ups. When missed, returning to make the pick-up is sometime delayed for a week.

American Disposal charges Prince William County customers for services not used. """The county requires us to charge for this service regardless of if you use it or not""" It is wrong for either a company or Prince William County to require payment for an at-home yard waste pickup service when County residents do not even use the at-home pickup service, or depending on where they live, do not even have any yard waste (sticks and leaves) that need to be taken to the landfill. ADS customers are being forced to pay extra for an add-on service they are not using, or even ask to be added. I never use their yard waste service, never have, I only used their other two services, Trash and Recycling. I take my yard waste to the Prince William County landfill myself, using my own trailer.

American Disposal Services has not picked up our recycling correctly for at least two months.  Sometimes they show up 2-4 days late, but at least half the time they don't show up at all.  This is impacting multiple homes all down our street, and we're all triaging makeshift containers to hold uncollected debris, and picking it up as it blows around in the wind and rain.  This situation is ongoing and unacceptable.  I have begun reporting the missed pick-ups every morning, every week, through their automated system but this has not shown any improvement in the situation.   In addition, they provided written notification last night via email that they are implementing a 10% increase to all remaining customers (presumably because so many are fleeing them) to raise our bills.  Given that they have reduced pick-ups on our contract already from twice a week to once a week, have already raised prices last year, and are not honoring their contracted obligations to pick up our debris on time, or 50% of the time at all, this is unacceptable.  I reported this situation to the County and the Better Business Bureau.  I notified both American Disposal and their parent company, Waste Connections, of this as well.

The weekly trash pick up has been very unreliable. I have received "your service may be delayed" e-mails every week for the past two months. For the past several weeks, even the delayed service has been delayed for either the recycling or yard waste or both.

Terrible. I gave 3 weeks notice that I was moving and cancelling service. I am owed $50 for missed pickups and the last month of service. They require payment prior to performing their service. The bins were on the street the last day as agreed. Trash was picked. the bins were not. I have since received invoices to pay for the bins. I recently by the former house and saw 2 bright shiny new American disposal bins at the curb. They obviously replaced my old ones. This business does not want to talk with customers. There is no email. No chat. And the telephone number lands you in a queue. Today I am number 61. The last call, I waited 2 hours and was disconnected. Avoid this business.

First, American is not locally owned in either Virginia or Georgia, it is owned by Waste Connections of Toronto Canada . Trash pickup has been satisfactory, but yard waste recycling can be a month or more between pick-ups. I understand that this recycling requirement was waived during the pandemic, but that waiver is long passed. Trash removal was recently reduced from twice a week to once a week, and the price raised at the same time.

American Disposal Services has been a big disappointment. I have had to call them several times to ask when they will pick up the yard waste in my neighborhood. I'm told one day, but then they suddenly stop coming on that day and come on another day that is not trash or recycling day. I have been told by three different customer reps that yard waste is picked up on Wednesdays, but they don't show up. Then, Saturdays, but they show up on Tuesday. Then, Wednesdays, again, and they come a few times on that scheduled day. And then, they, once again, stop coming, so our yard waste and that of our neighbors piles up. Today is Wednesday. I have just called them for a fourth time and have been told that they will come today. Let's hope they do! My father pays in advance for American Disposal Services to pick up the family trash/recyclables/yard waste, but they don't deliver as promised. How disappointing and frustrating!

I've been waiting for more than 3 months for them to resolve my billing issues. Every time I send an electronic payment, they reject it. No returned phone calls, no email responses. No one seems to be available in accounting when I request to speak to someone. We've been customers for more than 10 years but apparently that doesn't count for anything. Cancelling their service today.

When you report a missed pick-up to their customer service number, they typically claim they will contact operations and send someone to empty the container. Has not happened yet. They over promise and under deliver consistently. See [*** Link removed ***]

They have been extremely unreliable and have become more so in recent months. It takes an all day commitment to talk to someone on the phone, they do not respond to email nor do they respond to inquiries on the form on their web site. On April 9, I cancelled my service. They told me they would pick up my trash containers on 24 April. They did not. I spent over an hour on the phone today trying to get them to pick up contaianers. Two separate "customer service" representatives told me they would call me back. Neither one ever did. The containers are still sitting in my driveway. I have been now told that they will not pick up the containers until 8 May. They refuse to refund the unserviced portion of my bill which I paid through June. I want the containrs gone and my refund, but no one wil give me any satisfaction.

I cannot believe that THEY OWE ME over $50 after I cancelled THEIR service to go to a trash service that cost $60 less per quarter, and they WILL NOT issue me a REFUND!!! I was told this is their policy...that they hold onto that money and credit the customer only if he/she becomes a customer again. REALLY??? Oh yea!! I want to go back to a company that charges me 3X what other companies charge and STEALS my money when I decide to leave because I need to lower my bills!!! What is WRONG with these people??? I had problems signing up with them for my mom's service, getting them to pick up trash regularly, and now I'm having problems with them giving me what I'm owed! Not cool! Not cool at all! Believe me, I'll be letting folks know about this! And putting it on Angie's List, Yelp, FB, Twitter... how can anyone think that keeping over $50 indefinitely is somehow OK??? SERIOUSLY??? This is a multi-BILLION dollar company. I saw them on Undercover Boss...like they were all compassionate and empathetic. Yea, well, when they STEAL their former customers' money all the time, and they fleece their current customers out the ying-yang, I guess they can afford to give 3 employees all kinds of nice stuff while the cameras are rolling. DO NOT SIGN UP WITH THIS COMPANY & if you are with them, leave, but at the END OF THE QUARTER!!! They charge 3X more than other trash and recycling pick up companies, you cannot be assured of their pickup (even on good weather days), their prices increase substantially every year (citing FUEL price increases), AND it appears they have no problem keeping money that is clearly not theirs. I've known companies that take forever to issue a refund, but never one that refuses to issue a refund! It's one thing to refuse a refund for a product, but this is for a service that was NEVER PROVIDED. Wow...unbelievable! So, there you go. Customer beware. Oh, and they DESTROYED the trash containers. We had to call and call to get new ones each time. They would bring *repaired* ones that barley held together with the way they treated them. Then my husband began repairing them, reinforcing them much better. The guys still managed to rip the lids off and damage the sides. I mean, did they have anger issues? It was difficult to keep the trash in and critters out when they kept ripping apart the trash containers. It was ridiculous.

We had to start using American when Charlie and Son stopped servicing our neighborhood. American disposal company provides horrendous residential track pick up service. Trash is always in the street which we have to pick up twice a week. Can are slammed on their side to curb; they've broken two of our trash cans. When you call and complain things will improve for a week or so and then service resumes back to where it was. I gladly cancelled with them today and am going with a new company.

Fairfax County ordinance prohibits trash collection on residential streets before 6:00 AM. At least twice a month American Disposal trucks roar down our street before 6:00 AM, sometimes as early as 5:15 AM. About a month or so ago a truck stopped in front of our house at 5:15 AM and sat there for an hour with the engine idling while the crew slept. This morning the yard waste truck parked in front of our house on the wrong side of the street at 5:22 AM with the engine running. The driver was using some sort of electronic device - you could see the obvious glow of the blue screen while the other guy slept. At 5:55 the truck turned around in the cul de sac and pulled up to my yard waste. The helper got out and stretched like he'd been sleeping, wandered to the back of the truck and tossed the yard waste in, ambled back and climbed in the cab before the truck drove off. I called customer service (answered by "Nancy" and said that one of American Disposal's trucks had parked in front of my house at 5:25 with its engine idling. She promptly hung up on me! Really consider your options before hiring this company.

The skip days without saying anything. They drop garbage in the street. They put recycling in with the regular trash. And they raise their price every few months. Mind you they originally raised it significantly when gas was approaching $4.00 a gallon. It's been well below that for years but the price still keeps going up. None of the 'gas' increase was returned as gas prices dropped significantly. There's nearly a quarterly raise in the pricing.

I just watched American Disposals trash truck dump my recycling with the trash. I called to complain last week that this happened and they obviously don't care about the environment. I'm furious. Why do I take the time to separate my recycling??? They just lost a customer.

Trash containers are tossed back from the truck and left wherever they fall in the street. This also leads to the containers being thrown against vehicles and you know that it has been trash day as there is trash left on the streets. Unfortunately, they are not careful and apparently have no pride in their work.

This company services our community. They have a contract with our HOA. Three weeks ago our trash container disappeared after being picked up. I called our community center, whereupon they asked if perhaps one of the neighbors might have accidentally gotten it. After checking, answer was no. I called back and they said they would have one dropped off if there was one available. Two weeks later, still no trash container. This is the responsibility of the trash company to repair and replace, so I finally got their number after multiple calls to our management company, and after three aborted calls over the same number of days (I was in their Muzak-like call queue and after 18 minutes of being on hold while they bragged about their great service (!?) gave up.) The fourth time I finally got a live person, who said that they would check with the operations manager and call me back. Three days later, no call back. This fifth time after 18 minutes of on hold the recording said that they were closed, and call back later. (This was at 1:32 EST on a Monday!!!) I have dealt with a lot of nonresponsive organizations and companies in my lifetime, but I can't remember one as bad as this.

Last week they could and would not pick up my trash.  Streets where cleared and they still refused to pick up my trash.  They are abandoning their resident customers for their commercial customers.  Now it is time to fire them and go with another company!

Living in semi-rural Virginia, my home and others on my street are serviced by a long private paved road with ample room for trucks to maneuver and turn around. The first few months were fine, prompt and on time. Whenever they missed I pick up, I either called or emailed customer service and a makeup run was scheduled for the next day. Other than essentially paying double for the same service I had before, I was ok with their service.
However in November of 2015 they start missing every week and I would have to remind them to come. Each time I reminded them in writing, they admitted dropping the ball. During the Thanksgiving holiday, they forgot to come twice. Only this time they replied with a statement saying they would no longer drive down our private road to our residence to pick up the containers sitting on the street. Rather they wanted me to roll them about 1/3 of a mile to the main road. Being semi-disabled, this is not possible and is,  in fact one of the reasons I ordered trash service in the first place. I explained that other service providers in our community, including USPS, UPS, FEDEX and Comcast all drive large trucks on our private road without a complaint.
I've asked them to please modify my service in writing with thirty days notice and to please credit me for the dates they have forgotten to pick up my trash. Note that I pay my bill regularly and on time via an automated system through my bank, so I expect American Disposal to live up to their end of the contract and provide services paid for.
To date, I have not heard back from them.
