Window Nation Lorton

Window Service, Door Service, Siding Service,

About us

At Window Nation, we know replacement windows. We’re third-generation window replacement experts who have been lucky to provide homeowners replacement windows, siding, and doors for over fifteen years. We opened our first showroom in Maryland in 2006, quickly growing to serve homeowners in cities across the country – and we’re not stopping there. We’re grateful for every homeowner who has trusted us to upgrade their most important asset: their home. We’ve learned a lot about home improvement over the years, but the most important thing we learned isn’t about window replacement. We learned the home improvement industry isn’t about offering the best windows, siding and doors; it’s about the relationships we build with our customers.

I contacted window nation in January 2015 at the recommendation of a friend and had them install 6 Windows and one sliding glass door. After the install I had to reprint all of my window sills due to the damage done to them during the install. After the install I also realized my kitchen window wouldn't lock. WN sent a technician out to try and fix the window and we determined it couldn't be fixed and a new one would have to be installed. On several occasions throughout 2015 I would receive a sales call from window nation asking if I had any need for new Windows or to tell me about a new sale or promotion. Each time they would call I would tell them I was still waiting for my window to be fixed, and that the friend that had referred me still hadn't received his referral fee. Each time I would get profuse apology, then a transfer to customer service, a customer service rep who would say that they didn't see the note about the repair OR referral in my account, and a promise to fix the window and to get the referral paid. This happened three times. Then I thought if I told them I needed a new window installed they would be more likely to respond. Again, I called three times, was told who my sales rep was (a different name every time) and that they would be back in touch with me shortly. Although I didn't hear back from two of them, I did speak to one sales rep who said that although the rep who sold me my original Windows wrote the price of additional Windows on my sales order and wrote "price good through 12/2017" and signed and dated it, this sales manager wouldn't be able to honor that price. . He then assured me he would follow up with a quote for the ONE new window I wanted installed. Which I received. Two weeks later. The quote was for $10,000. For ONE BAHROOM WINDOW. And, folks, this is an average size, single, double hung, townhouse window. I did get my kitchen window replaced...13 months later. And my friend still hasn't revived their referral fee.

Please don't spend your hard earned money with this company,

Estimate was scheduled at 9am, so when no one had arrived by 9:35 so I called the number in the email confirmation. Kept getting placed on hold and transferred to new people who kept doing the same run around spiel of asking my phone number, confirming the appointment time. Told them to go ahead and cancel the estimate and that I was not interested in rescheduling. I stayed home to make time for their allegedly 1 hour presentation where they require both husband and wife to be present.
About 15 minutes the sales manager called to apologize and tried to reschedule and offered to take care of me for the inconvenience but I declined as I've found it hard to trust them going forward as I've had too many bad experiences with sales people for house work that I put a lot of value on first impressions.
I ended up calling the manager back to apologize for being so dismissive and was able to get a ballpark quote over the phone. Haven't decided on a vendor yet.
Response from Window Nation Lorton

"We can't apologize enough for messing this up on our end. Certainly not how we like to conduct business as we pride ourselves on customer satisfaction. I am not sure what happened here, but I will find out. In the meantime, I am sorry we didn't have a chance to earn your business. Harley Magden, co-founder and owner"

We met reps at the Dulles Home/Garden Show....made an appt for a rep to come give us an estimate.  Sales Rep was on time for appt.  This was the longest presentation of the 6 estimates we had done --- honestly too long.   We'd had one other one before this one and this presentation confirmed the strange way window estimates are given.  After showing us a brochure for their windows and going thru all the information we were given FOUR prices by the sales rep and then ONE more by email from another sales rep.  Seriously made us question any of the pricing.  The first one the on site sales rep gave us "buy it in the next year" -- 36K;  the "buy it in the next 30 days" price -- 27K;  the "buy it ASAP" price --- 21K;  the "out-the-door" price (after he'd gone outside to call his manager) -- 17K.   What the heck------it was like trying to buy a car and all the games that happen during price negotiations.   When we said we would not be signing contract today as we had others scheduled to give us estimates there was more pushing to sign and then cancel the contract if we wanted.  We told him we would not do that.   So as he's packing up to leave he takes the estimate sheets and would not leave us a copy (good thing I was writing it down in my notes) because he had to turn them into his "inside sales rep".   So we get an email---now the price is 15K if we sign in the next few days because they will include us in an order for a large project in Fairfax.   Again we never received any type of itemized accounting of how much each window actually costs.  We just can't do business this way.  Our 5th and 6th companies both showed exactly how they determined their price.

"Thank you for considering us for your home. I apologize the process didn't go smoother and that we didn't do a better job explaining how we arrived at the cost and were able to offer you a discount. Best of luck with your home. Harley Magden, co-founder and owner."

Window Nation Inc was very professional. They laid down protection/plastic tarps to not track mud in my house and left it very clean. They were fast, quite, and courteous! It was all a great experience.

The Team showed up on time. The leader, Alex, introduced himself and his assistant, Gustavo. After showing them the windows and patio door that were to be replaced, they went right to work. Alex asked if he could use a parking space close to the worksite just to unload the what they would need to complete the job. I pointed out a space where they could park with the understanding that he would move the truck into my parking space and he did. Alex started with the installation of the patio door while Gustavo started installation on one of the five windows. They worked at a steady pace. Once the patio door was installed, Alex proceeded to assist with the remaining windows. By mid-day, they were close to working on the last window. The guys didn't incur any problems and were very pleasant during the whole process. The work was completed in the allotted time. From set-up to clean up, the guys did an excellent job. Alex walked me through to review/inspect the completed work. Overall, Window Nation was an experience I will always remember.  From beginning to end, service was excellent!

Great job on the sales end by Chris. He explained everything in detail and gave us great advise. On the installation end Jonathan and his crew were on time and professional. They knew what they were doing. My wife and I are very pleased. We highly recommend Window Nation to anyone looking for great customer service.

From the initial visit by the sales rep to the technician that came to measure and through the installation, everyone was very professional and everything went very smoothly.  The windows are good looking and seem to work well.  The installers arrived on time, were very thorough and careful and cleaned everything up before they left.  The sales rep came by after the installation to see how everything went and the main office called the next business day to make sure we were satisfied.  Altogether, it was a great experience.

The experience with Window Nation was good to start with.  Had them come out and give a brief demonstration (had one in the past so I didn't need the full demonstration) on their windows and took measurements and gave a quote.  The quote that was given was below a local competitor who already installed windows in my house.  I was happy with the price and went with the Vytex Grandview Slider window.  When I signed the contract, I was told 4-6 weeks, which was right on time (could have been earlier if my schedule would have permitted).  Fast forward to installation day and that's when the dissatisfaction came to play.  The windows are excellent but wish the salesman would have had a sample of the Grandview slider when giving the demonstration.  I say this because the window has no extra give/frame from the lip of opening the window.  I understand they are trying to give as much glass as possible, but there should be some space from the lip of the window that slides against the frame...wasn't even two hours after having the windows installed and I pinched my fingers closing the window due to the lip butting right up against the frame.  Second, the two man installation crew did a subpar job of cleaning up.  I ended up having to go back after them to sweep/vacuum where the new windows were installed.  In addition and the biggest dissatisfaction is they did not clean ANY of the windows.  After they had left, I had to go back to clean the windows to remove all the dust and residue from the installers.  Some of the residue on the windows had to removed by using Goo Gone and not all residue is removed (unable to remove and got tired of scrubbing the windows).  While trying to lift the windows out of the frame to take them out for cleaning, they are extremely hard to pull and get stuck on the actual frame of the window so you have to pull extremely hard to get the window out.  Next, one or maybe both of the installers, left caulking residue or something alike on the cabinets in the kitchen (still have not removed as I have not had time to scrub the cabinets from their mess).  Lastly, one of the crew members used the bathroom and did not bother to flush, leaving the toilet seat up.  Overall, Window Nation was great to work with but Vytex Window, not so much.  I marked no to using the provider again in the future as right now, it?s unknown.  Could possible use Window Nation again but most likely not Vytex Windows.

Ridiculous! They claimed that a 33" x 21" window was an egress window and quoted my a minimum of $1200 to install one window. This didn't even include removing the brick which they said I had to contract with someone else to prepare the space for the window to be installed. I would never use a company that would charge this much and can't do the work to remove some bricks from a window opening themselves.
Response from Window Nation Lorton

"Hi [Member's name removed], Thanks for sharing your experience with us. We take all reviews seriously, good and bad. I understand you weren't happy with the cost of your basement window. We feel confident with the price we promptly quoted you over the phone and brick removal is out of the scope of work we currently offer. I wish you the best of luck with your home. Harley Magden, co-founder and owner"
