I can not say enough about Greg Prouty and his team's professionalism. Really. I first met Greg early this summer when my husband and I were looking to buy a period house in the historical town of Waterford, Virginia. I had asked Greg to comment on a fixer-upper house we were considering. He came by the house at a time we suggested, inspected the three fireplaces and gave me suggestions; all for free. We did not buy that house, but had Greg come out again, in late November, for free and inspect the house we did buy.
We asked him to advise us if we could have a wood burning stove in our 1790 walk in fireplace and give us an estimate for installing the favored model: a red Vermont Casting Defiant wood burning stove. Greg and his colleague inspected the chimney (and the other three in the house) and after consultation, advised us that our stove would work in our old fireplace with modifications, and that he and his team could install it for approximately $1700. (This estimate was comparable to another estimate I received by Rusty of Rusty's Fireplace.)
Greg and I corresponded by email while awaiting the stove's arrival during which time Greg reminded me of the certain parts required for the installation. The stove arrived. Greg and his team showed up on time this last Saturday, covered my oriental rug with a protective cloth, and proceeded to install the stove. He took extra care with all the red enameled parts and in measuring the stove for placement in the exact middle of the fireplace. Once installed, he showed my husband and I how to burn the first 'break-in' fires. He also replaced a cap on one of our other chimneys without extra cost. We have used the stove for three nights now and all is working beautifully. Thank you Greg! Excellent work. (We have photos of the process if anyone wants to see them.)
