"On the day of appt, it was pouring rain, since time is needed to take the required measurements and have them written on paper, as well as taking pictures with my Apple Tablet Camera would be quite impossible in the rain. Mrs. [member name removed] was called and asked if we could please reschedule do to the weather. She made it clear that it she was not concerned about rain since she will be inside the house and me outside. At that time, I decided that Mrs [member name removed] was not the type of person we would want to work for."
"When we were contacted by Mrs. [member name removed], she said she had wanted an estimate for a Master Remodel. I personally designed the bathroom and showed her catalogs. She said that she is going to do her due diligence and wants to make sure of what every product was and quality of such item. I agreed. On the contract, every last item was listed by store item number and listed exactly what the brand was. After reviewing, she decided to move forward with a contract. At the contract signing, the contract was read by her and her husband. And then we went over it together to make sure they understood exactly what they were receiving. They agreed it to be correct and understood exactly the high quality of materials we would be using. Approx a two weeks go by and we get a call . First, she says that they are just kids and didn't realize what they were doing. Kids? Over 40 is not a kid. She was informed about the 3 day cancellation policy and forefiture of the deposit. Next, we get a call saying that "we were just to embarrassed to tell you that we were turned down on the loan." Although we are 100% intitled to the 20% deposit due to breach of contract. Once in a while, after writing a contract, clients will still go out getting other estimates. Since we use very high quality materials, it not unusual to have another contractor using lower quality materails and day laborers to beat our price. So to protect us from this, in good faith offered her a total refund of said deposit if she would sign a statement that she will not be having another contractor coming in to build within a one year and that she did in deed get turned down on their loan. She would not sign it. Then started to say that she and her husband would go as far as standing in front of our Chantilly Expo Booth and tell potential clients that we were dishonest. We were not the dishonest ones. I go back to the completely itemized contract and her telling me that she never signs anything without doing her due diligence . Her attorney was contacted and, although we did not have to return anything, out of kindness gave her a portion of her deposit back. A lot of time and labor goes into preparing an estimate for such a project. Once we sign a contract and the 3 days pass, much more time and labor goes into preparing and ordering , plus we block in the schedule where we could of placed someone else."
