After almost a year of moving into our new home, we experienced our worst nightmare. Our not one but two basement levels had visible signs of water penetration from the previous homeowner's negligence. A record year of rainfall along with improper grading of the home helped unmask many issues to the surface we never thought about when we first bought the home. It was a very hopeless feeling to experience and go through. My husband and I did our due diligence on waterproofing and foundation repair and interviewed about 20 contractors who specialize in this field. Upon meeting Mr. Steven Starkey from S&S Waterproofing and Foundation Repair, we knew we found the right guy to correctly fix the water problems at our home. Mr. Starkey was always very prompt with the many questions we had for him and always had the right answer back for us, which made us feel very comfortable hiring him and clearly separated himself from the rest of his competition. In the end, Mr. Starkey and his crew performed a complex hand digging excavation around 3/4 of the outside of our home. This included jackhammering and repairing in the carport area of our home as well. They did this during the hottest time of the year, the end of June - mid August. Mr. Starkey's crew was very professional and hardworking; they always came on time, never took shortcuts in the six weeks from start to finish on the project. His foreman running the project, Sturado was very knowledgable and closely monitored the job. It made us feel very comfortable having him there overseeing the job along with Mr. Starkey who usually came by everyday as well to check on things. Mr. Starkey's crew of six hand dug everything on the outside, which was quite complex because of the two different level basements. They properly sealed the outside cracks and removed most of the marine clay which was creating pressure on our home. His team relocated the sump pump inside our home to a better strategic area and also made another outside sump pump to collect the water around our home and carry it away. It has been about a half year past the project completion and we had not had any signs of water penetration inside our home, even with quite a bit of rainfall afterwards. We feel very confident in the work Mr. Starkey's company performed (guarantee's his work, lifetime transferable warranty). He has checked back with us after the project was completed to see how things were and has offered to come back if we had any questions or problems which is reassuring. It's rare to find a company like S&S Foundation and Waterproofing who truly stands behind their work and take pride in their reputation. If you want a great waterproofing and foundation company we would recommend S&S Waterproofing and Foundation anyday; Mr. Starkey's company was one of the best contractors in any field that we have ever hired since owning a home, dating back to 2012.

Outstanding

work went well. First day had to dig holes under my garage slab, that did not have any footers, which we found out that day. 4 footers had to be poured. Then had to cure. Then 4 push piers were installed to stabilize the garage at its current level. Steve was great. Very honest about what i needed and what he would recommend. I received another previous quote from a large well known company, and it just did not sound right what they were telling me.

This is the second time that I have used S&S Waterproofing and Foundation Repair. The first time was to fix very large sink holes that were opening up in my front yard, apparently due to underground collapsed drainage piping. This time, when I contacted Steve I asked if they did retaining walls. Steve came to look at the job. I immediately expressed my concern with my limited budget, which Steve completely understood. He offered several options on how to complete the job within my budgetary constraints. We hired S&S Waterpoofing and Foundation Repair to do the job. During each phase of the job, Steve sent me photos of the job progression. He answered any questions that I had almost immediately via text message. Most importantly, he also made sure that my wife was onboard with anything that they were doing. Apparently he knows who controls the money and who the boss is! LOL! Additionally, during the job Steve identified issues with a previous contractors work and addressed those for me as well. Steve is very concerned with customer satisfaction, that is incredibly important to me and my wife! The end result was a beautiful retaining wall. The only thing better than the beauty of the wall is how well it works, drainage is completely handled with ease, even during bad rainstorms! When visitors come to the house, they all ask who built the new wall because it looks incredible! Thank you to Steve and his crew for doing such an amazing job! I am sure this is not the end of our relationship, I will be calling Steve for any of my construction needs in the future! Finally, I just wanted to say, I am the type of person that has anxiety with these types of situations, due to the cost issue, my personal lack of knowledge, and an inability to be able to see the end result before it's accomplished. This is a follow-up to my 6/12/2019 review: Our area recently experienced several instances of torrential rains resulting in basement flooding in a number of our neighbors' homes. Ours remained completely dry attesting to the quality of work provided by this company.

We were having problems with water leaking into the basement along the cinder block wall perimeter and began to have pooling there and at the garage door entrance to the basement. We contacted several companies for an estimate to fix the problem. S & S was the company offering the best solution. S & S did a very professional job in completing a inside drainage trench system with sump pumps. Steve worked with us to work out the details to our satisfaction in contract form. The process was explained as the work progressed. The crew were efficient and courteous. Work was completed in a reasonable time and good quality materials were used. The basement and yard area were left clean and in good order. We are very satisfied with the results.

We interviewed 12 different contractors before selecting this company for work on our 1895 basement. The majority could not (did not want to) perform the full scope of work or tried to sell us on other products that did not fully address our problem (old brick walls, no foundation, and a high water table). One company rep diagnosed the problem over the phone without ever coming to our house... During his first visit, Steve (the owner) listened to my concerns and recommended solutions in line with what we wanted to do without the high pressure we got from other sales reps. His team was HARD WORKING and courteous and, with the exception of an occasional snowstorm, finished everything in a timely manner. The total cost was competitive with other quotes that didn't fully meet our needs. We will likely need some minor work in another part of the basement as we remodel the floor above and his will be the only company we call.

S&S did a great job with our exterior waterproofing when we purchased our home. We had water intrusion on the wall that couldn't be excavated. They installed new drainage tile with sump pit and sump pump. The team completed the work in a day. Great experience with the crew.

I can just say WOW!!! Steve's crew did an impeccable job!! You can't even tell where the old brick ends and the new brick begins; they even managed to match the mortar perfectly!! AND, they left the work area immaculate!! Honestly, it was neater looking when they left than it was when they started the job!! We are located in Northern Virginia and had some water damage in our basement and had several estimates for the work. Stephen was able to come out quickly to perform an estimate. His was the only external option, compared with internal drainage systems other providers offered and we were able to avoid having a sump pump in the downstairs bedroom. It was also reasonably priced and included removal of the damaged drywall and mold. It took some time to get the work scheduled, due to weather and high demand. However, Stephen was very upfront about this and the timeline was comparable to other companies. The crew worked very hard and were polite and professional. They did quaility work and we are happy with the result.

Steve arrived at the agreed upon time and applied the epoxy patch and then left for a bit and returned to apply the second phase. The chemicals applied had no odor and have been highly effective in keeping out further seepage of rain water.

They did amazing work. I had met 9 contractors and consulted with 2 structural engineers when making hiring decision. They were the only company to offer a sensible solution and they delivered on their promise. Best price. Another contractor would have charged 40 percent more for less work. I don't know what we would have done if we hadn't found Steven Starkey. Very hard working team that went above and beyond in pulling my house and yard back together. No other contractor came close. They are the #1 foundation repair/ waterproofing company in the metro D.C. area.
