Mr. Armstrong showed up on time and spent almost an hour reviewing a moisture problem I was having on my ground floor. I initially thought it was a AC problem, but Daniel went through the whole house with me from the basement to the second floor and it was determined that the old, thinning insulation between my floor upstairs and the ground floor ceiling was the most likely cause. He was very articulate in explaining how moisture (heat) from the upstairs meeting the cold (AC) from the downstairs can cause ceiling damage. Having reviewed other possibilities: roof, plumbing or masonary problems, I think his assessment of the situation is the most plausible - and he didn't charge me for his time. I know, most contractor's don't charge for a consultation, but he really took his time and he LISTENED to me. I look forward to using him for annual AC and heating inspections.

It went well. The technician was a very personable young man who showed up on time. He checked the condenser and found the problem right away. He had the part that it needed on his truck, so he quoted me the price to install it. I gave the ok. After the part was in place, he checked the coolant level and found it was a little low so he added some with my permission. I would definitely use this company again.

Unfortunately the news wasn't good, but that was out of Sean's control, as the crawlspace had taken a large amount of moisture and was full of odor. He showed me how it was getting into the HVAC, and advised that they could do nothing to address it until the moisture problem was taken care of. He was very empathetic, and gave me the name of a company they work with who does that kind of work. I was only charged $40 since they weren't able to resolve the problem. Considering most HVAC companies charge $75 and up just to ring your doorbell, I really appreciated that. I called Armstrong based on the reviews on Angie's list, which were stellar. The main thing I notice with how Sean and Dan operate is that they really seem earnest about taking care of the customer, whereas literally every other HVAC company I've done business with is clearly out to extract every cent they can out of their customers. Most customers realize this, but with the perception that everyone else operates the same way, we as customers become a captive audience that's loathe to have to call an HVAC company. I don't get that vibe at all from Armstrong, and with upcoming projects to replace aging systems, I'm relieved that I found Armstrong Mechanical-- I can at least eliminate getting ripped off from my list of worries.

The tech did not the to overload me witrh a list of things needed. He did suggest that the unit needed cleaning to allow a better flow Which was $ 50.00 and the check was made again on the unit which had improved .I'm pleased that I wasn't burned with an enormous bill, very satisified

Tech was running late, I had to call to see what was up. After arrival, inspected both units, said the coils needed cleaning and more R22 was needed. I made mention that the Tuneup be called a check up since that's all that was done for the Tune up deal. Everything went well would use again.

Dan Armstrong made an appointment to send his tech to our house. The tech, Sean, showed up at the correct time. Got right to work. Communicated with Dan to figure out an unusual problem with the AC. They figured it out then and there all the while keeping me informed of what was going on. Sean gave me the estimate for the repair and they ordered the part. It came in as expected. Made an appointment to install the part which worked great! And the best thing...they realized the part was under warranty and only needed to charge us for the labor and gas!!! (We just purchased this house and had no idea there was any warranty on the AC unit from it's original installation. We wouldn't have known any different.) I would absolutely use Armstrong Mechanical again!!

The fix was quick and efficient - a wire was loose and tightened....provider was honest and helpful. He could have taken advantage of the situation, but he did not. He even recommended helpful strategies to save money and time. I would recommend this company.

Armstrong Mechanical Services Inc. were great. He came right when he said he would come. He did everything he said he would do. He did it very quickly. I asked if I needed more freon, which would have been an opportunity for him to sell me stuff. But he said he checked it out and that we're fine and didn't need any. I thought that was very nice and honest of him, to not sell me something I didn't need. It was just as was advertised and it worked out well. He came out within a week of me purchasing the Big Deal.

First, I have to say that I was a bit gun-shy after a horrible horrible experience with another company (Virginia Air Mechanical and Commonwealth Duct & Mold) in 2011. They started work on this installation, requested payment and promptly disappeared from the planet. I should have known better, but I am probably too trusting for my own good. My lawyer is still pursuing them. So this time around, I joined Angie's List and got 4 estimates. I had never heard of Armstrong Mechanical before, even though they were fairly local. But they got such high marks that I chose them for my final estimate. Daniel Armstrong responded immediately to my inquiry and even put shoe covers on when he came in to see my house for the first time. No contractor has ever been that respectful and I was immediately impressed. It was probably harder for him to give me an estimate looking at the mess the prior contractor left behind than it would have been if he was starting with nothing -- but he spent a great deal of time going through my home, taking notes and measurements, and made me feel comfortable that all was not lost. Instead of shaking his head and telling me what a mess he had to clean up before he could start work, he was reassuring. Others were shaking their heads and to me that meant $$ when they came back with their estimates. Daniel came back right away with several estimates using American Standard equipment that would be the right fit for my home. His estimates for higher end units (Gold and Platinum series) were much more competitive than the lower end builder grade estimates provided by several other well known companies. But he provided me with a range of options, all of which would work efficiently, so that I could make that decision. Maybe I should have been skeptical and gone with the 'well known' company? But having lost money and been so burned a year before, I needed to put this job in my rear view mirror at a reasonable price. So I took a leap of faith with a company I didn't know. Let me tell you - God was looking out for me this time around!!!! It took a few weeks for the entire job to be completed because of the complexity of working with an old house, but they did it right!!! They fit me in to their schedule, and I could hardly tell when they'd been in the house working because they left everything immaculate. I interacted mostly with Eddie, when our paths would cross after work. He took time to walk around and explain everything to me as it was happening. No holes were drilled without checking with me first for placement and aesthetics - I really appreciated that. I can't believe my good luck in finding this company. Yesterday afternoon Daniel did his final walk through, cleaned up a few things, showed me the best way to use the system and helped me program the thermostat. I couldn't be more pleased if I tried, and will actually miss these guys -- hmmm... wonder if they do generators?

We called Armstorng to check out a heat pump that was not functioning properly. We thought it needed gas. We also wanted a check performed on both of our heat pumps and a gas furnace. A technician was scheduled to come within two days of the initial call (not an emergency). Punctual. Friendly. Professional. The technician found our humidifier needed a new mister pad. He also found the heat pump malfunction was a burned out control board. We wanted to upgrade the thermostats to programmable thermostats. He made a recommendation that we accepted. He returned within the same week to replace the humidfier mister pad, the burned out control board, and three thermostats. The heat pump fix was effective and we are happy with the new programmable thermostats. We will call Armstrong again next year for a preventative check on our heat pumps and gas furnace. We will also not hesitate to call them again in the event of a heat pump or gas furnace malfunction.

I had about 5 companies come over to give me estimates and they all recommended pretty much the same thing, just different brands. Armstrong came over and actually took the time to go in the attic, look at the equipment, measure my ducts and make certain that what I had would work with what they offered. I told him that I was interested in their Angie's list deal ($4000 for a 3 ton York system) but wanted to hear his other options as well. After looking at my house, ducts and equipment he said that would be too much for my house. He said i'd need a 2.5 ton unit and i'd have to increase some of the ducts' diameter to accommodate even that. He's guaranteed that my house will be cool with the lesser system and the changes to the ducts. The competitors didn't even bother to look and see what size my air handler was, let alone the size of my ducts etc. His estimate for everything ended up being a great deal less than the competitors, even with the duct work and an additional air cleaner that we wanted added on. I pretty much told him I wanted the $4000 deal going in and he told me that was too much for my house. I got the estimate on a Tuesday, got the official quote Wednesday morning and they came to replace everything on Friday. They installed it all in one day while I was at work and my babysitter was at our house. When I got home everything was done, everything was clean and you couldn't tell that anyone was even in there, besides the all new AC system of course. Daniel came back by my house a few days later to make sure I knew how everything worked, how to replace the air cleaner filter myself and a few other maintenance items. He saw that one of my pipes from the outside unit wasn't properly insulated and replaced that on the spot without asking or me even realizing there was an issue. Daniel and Armstrong Mechanical made this potentially painful process an absolute pleasure. I could not be happier with the job they did and I cannot recommend them highly enough. Please make sure to at least call them up and get a quote from these guys and you will not regret it.

Another company had quoted us several thousands of dollars to have the HVAC problem on our rental unit fixed. We decided to try Angie's List for the first time and "Daniel" was wonderful in showing up quickly, explaining the problem in detail, and giving a quote that we were very pleased with. He did everything he said he would do, in the time frame he said it would take.

I used a big deal, and he did not charge me any extra. It was a good deal. He was very courteous and very professional. He is intelligent. I could talk to him about things about the heating and air conditioning system, and he knew what the answers were. He came at the time he said.

Absolutely top notch professionalism. The technician was very thorough, friendly, honest, skilled, and just excellent in every way. He resolved the problem through testing and cleaning and repair of as few components as possible as opposed to recommending expensive replacements as can often happen with many contractors. Made lots of recommendations about prevention, service, and other areas of concern that he noticed but without any kind of sales pressure. Prices were also more than reasonable. This is one of the most comfortable contracting experiences I have ever had. I will definitely call on them again for years to come.

He was prompt and couldn't find anything wrong.

Our heating system broke down on Sunday 24 Feb. It was a bitterly cold day and our indoor temperature had dropped to 52 degrees. We consulted Angie's List and read the excellent reports on Armstrong Mechanical of Hopewell and called immediately. We left a message which was answered within 30 minutes. Mr. Armstrong arrived about an hour later on the Sunday afternoon and quickly identified the problem - a failed component in the system. Unfortunately for us he did not carry the part as it was not a common replacement item. He promised to call the makers, "Carrier", first thing on Monday morning to get the part. He also agreed to call me to confirm that the part was available. I am pleased to say that not only was the part available but he also called me to give the promised progress report. He collected the part from Richmond and hoped to fit it that same afternoon. All this he did and we, once again, had heating - thank goodness. I could not have asked for a more efficient contractor - his courtesy, professionalism and attitude could not be faulted. He is, quite certainly, the best heating contractor I have ever experienced. On Tuesday 26 Feb when he checked out the system It gave me a sense of satisfaction to settle his very reasonable account because I knew that I had received a genuine service from a competent and trustworthy young man.

It went fine. There's nothing to tell. e came, did the work and left.

We realized on Sunday that our evaporator fan motor on our unit under the house wasn't working and was probably the source of the burning smell we noticed the day before. Since it was Sunday, we used a space heater until Monday instead of calling someone out on a Sunday. We had no idea who to call, so I joined Angie's List and chose Armstrong Mechanical Services, Inc. because of how many great reviews they had. I called them about 10:30 a.m. and got right through. The owner, Daniel, said he could be here by 12:30 - 1:00 p.m. He showed up at 12:17. It took him less than fifteen minutes to diagnose the problem (bad fan motor) and give us estimates for just the motor or for the whole under-the-house unit which has never been replaced. We opted for the motor right now and he took off to get one, was back in less than a half hour, and finished within a reasonable amount of time. My husband and I could have done the job as we are both mechanics, but we are getting older and didn't want to crawl under the house. We could not have done the job anywhere near as quickly as Daniel did and it was well worth the money. When we need HVAC repair again we will definitely use this company and recommend him to anyone we talk to. I would never have found this company without Angie's List, so joining was well worth it.

It was fine. I don't have a lot to comment on. They did a good job.

Discovered problem with furnace on sunday afternoon. Called Armstrong Mechanical on Monday afternoon and talked to Daniel. He arrive at 5:30 PM, giving me a courtesy call 30 minutes prior to his arrival. He quickly found the problem and corrected it. Very professional, friendly, and reasonably priced. Would highly recommend to anyone.

Phenomenal service. The owner of the company himself came out and did an extremely thorough job, including covering all points and explaining the points that were non-applicable in my case. Educated me on the use of other components (whole home humidifier, for example) than he had to, going above and beyond. He also didn't try to heap on unneeded services so I didn't feel like this call was a bait call at all. Simply performed the task promised, with professionalism and care. I highly recommend this company, and they will get any of my future repair/maintenance business! Thanks!!

Daniel arrived on time, ask a couple of questions about what had happened and knew right away what was wrong. He confirmed the problem and replaced a capacitor. I asked several questions, which he answered in terms that I understood. Daniel was very professional.

The serviceman was on time went right to work and finished in an acceptable time. So far we are very satisfied with the experience.

The overall experience was excellent.

Since, we missed the air conditioning service (we had to have emergency service) Mr. Armstrong agreed to service the heating equipment.which was terrific. Mr. Armstrong gave us a complete inspection of our heating system (forced air gas furnace) a gave us a clean bill of health. The next morning (Thanksgiving) we did not have any heat. We gave Mr. Armstrong a call and explained our issue with the heat. Hearrived at our house within 20 minutes on Thanksgiving morning to fix the problem which he did, he also took full responsibility for the problem. It hard to get better service then Mr. Armstrong delivered on that morning and we really appreciated his response. Needless to say we highly recommend his company for any of your future needs.
