Brief history - we first hired this company in February 2014 to do a local move when we sold our home to move to a temporary rental - that cost was $1300 to go about 3 miles. We thought the price was a bit high, but felt comfortable after the crew arrived. Jesse and his crew did do a very good job and they were very polite and careful. Well, they hooked us and apparently knew what they were doing; we had told them we would be planning a long distance move so we now trusted them - BIG MISTAKE!!! We hired them in November 2014 to do our cross country move. The same sales person (Janis) came and gave us an estimate of $12,500. For the contents we had we figured that was about right. Well, this is where the deception started; but, based on our earlier experience, we (unfortunately) trusted them. The crew came on moving date about an hour late (they were late and none of the contact numbers we had answered - everything went to voicemail - - on our moving date). We must admit that again the crew led by Jesse was very good; they moved efficiently and were very nice to deal with. Keep in mind, that my husband and I feel like we were honorable people to deal with; we went into this deal in good faith and even provided lunch, drinks and snacks for crews on every moving day. Well, Regency's true colors came through a few days later when Janis called us while we were driving cross country and, without any hesitation, stated that her estimate was wrong and we owed almost $7000 more dollars for the move now owing almost $20,000. We were of course in shock - we believe that either this woman is extremely bad at her job (her estimate was 50% off) or they scammed us figuring we were moving to the west coast and they would never deal with us again. Based on our experience, we definitely believe it was the 2nd reason - they were so matter of fact with the change in price, no surprise on their part, no apologies, nothing. And, when asked if we could have an extra couple of days for payment since we weren't prepared for this much of a difference they shut us down and said if we didn't have full payment the driver would leave with all of our property. A few years ago we remembered seeing a story on "60 Minutes" about this very thing; where a moving company changes cost after the move and basically holds your property hostage. We just couldn't believe it was happening to us. We have moved cross country alone four times in the past 20 years and NEVER experienced this. To add insult to injury, we had a minor insurance claim for some damages in the amount of about $1200 - Regency was responsible for $500 of this claim and refused for months to pay it; only when we made repeated requests, including their insurance company, did they finally honor their legal responsibility for their portion of the ADDITIONAL INSURANCE FOR WHICH WE PAID AN EXTRA PREMIUM. Stay away from this company and we feel that they cannot be trusted and are the epitome of deceitful, unscrupulous movers. KEEP LOOKING UNLESS YOU HAVE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO PAY IN RANSOM FOR YOUR PROPERTY!!
