Auto Transmission Service
Trying to get your transmission fixed? Look no further. Mike is as good as it gets. We have a 2006 Ford F-150. The transmission blew -
wouldn't move out of second gear. We bought the truck from Richmond Ford, and they were the first place we called. "Can't help you" was all they had to say. They weren't interested in hearing about how little or how gently the truck has been used. "You're out of warranty. We can't help you." Needless to say, we will never buy another vehicle from Richmond Ford.
So we called and interviewed 4 transmission places: AAMCO, AAROW, RiverRidge, and North American. They all had good things to say, but 2 offered free towing if they did the work, which rang alarm bells for us. Made us think that there was profitability built into the job. The same 2 were also pretty hard sell. In the end, we chose Mike at North American Transmission. Mike clearly knows his stuff. He likes a challenge, works hard, and is truly honest. Reputation matters in a business like transmission repair, where damages and associated costs can easily run into thousands of dollars. Mike took the time to explain his diagnostic process in detail and was as perplexed as we were - our truck only has 39,000 miles on it and has been well cared for. (We are the original owners.) It took a week, but Mike found a factory defect on the transmission valve die itself. He showed it to us when we picked up the truck today. And the job didn't cost anywhere near the $3,000 the other places estimated. BTW, his wife Kathy is the office manager and it felt good to support a local family-owned business.

The work was done along with an explanation of what and why. A nice feature is that the custome gets to talk directly with the man who does the work.

Mike is very knowledgeable guy. He put in a few hours to make sure he diagnosed the problem correctly before he stated changing things and doing thinks. He made a careful diagnosis before starting the work. Mike is very honest and fair. At other service, they estimated it to be $700. There is a huge difference. The quality is excellent. His responsiveness was very good. He told us when to bring it in and told use when it was going to be done and it was done and set. He knows exactly what to do. He went about his job and got it done and he got it done under excellent price as well. We were lucky to find him. I would use them in the future if I needed to.

They did a good job. It took a little longer than I would have expected. They were kind of hard to get hold of. The quality of their work was fine. I would probably use them again.

Mike was very straightforward about everything. Very good communications. The check for estimate as well as the repair was completed right on time. It was about as pleasant of an experience as you could have for replacing a transmission.

This place is great. I really like them. I've been with them for years and I think they are trustworthy. I like feeling like I can leave my car in their hands and know they'll take good care of me and my car.
