+ -1 moreEverything went fine. Here on time, quick repair (about one hour for two repairs), cleaned up afterwards, and friendly. Said he's been with with the company for about 16 years, so he has a lot of experience (always a plus).
Description of Work: I called Broughton appliance the previous week and asked if they could schedule an appt for Monday. They offered between 9am and 12pm Monday morning, which was perfect. The technician showed up a little after 10. I knew I had an icemaker problem on our Kenmore Coldspot Model #77181791 (no ice), and had diagnosed the problem using a repair manual, but the repair looked a little beyond my capability. We also had water leaking inside the fridge and collecting under the crispers. I thought this was related to the icemaker, but he explained that was a defroster problem. Sure enough, when he removed the floor cover of the freezer compartment, there was a 1/2"-thick sheet of ice there. He explained that he'd seen dozens of this model, and it was a poor design that allowed the water in the defroster drain to freeze, thereby clogging the line and making the defrost water overflow. After cleaning out the old ice, he attached one end of a wire to the defrost heating element, and stuck the other end down the defrost drain, to help keep it from freezing up in the future. He then replaced the icemaker inlet valve on the back of the fridge and re-connected everything. He also adjusted the levels on the fridge to bring it to a better stance.

+ -1 moreI called Broughton last Wednesday with a Maytag washer problem. Debbie Broughton courteously explained their policy of charging $64.95 for the trip and then only charging for the time the technician actually worked. (ie. They don't charge for 2 hours if the tech worked 1 hr 15 min. as some repair businesses do.) She scheduled a technician for the next afternoon and gave a relatively accurate estimate of when he would show up (so I didn't need to wait around all day). The next day the technician arrived as scheduled. He was pleasant, efficient and competent. He started the washer, determined that the screaming noise was coming from the pump and opened the washer. He gave us an estimate for a new pump should we need one. However, when he removed the pump and found a necklace "barely in there", he decided that the pump would probably still work well and that a new one wasn't necessary. He put the washer back together and ran it to make sure that the pump worked well. Then he helped us clean up. The technician's honesty, competence, and pleasant demeanor impressed us. I have seven children and use my washer frequently. In the ensuing week our washer has performed perfectly.
Description of Work: The Broughton technician started our washer and immediately told us that he suspected the screaming noise was coming from the pump. He then opened the washer, took the pump out, cleaned some jewelry out of it, put it back together, ran the washer, helped us clean up and answered questions while working.

+ -1 moreI called and was given an appointment two days later, with the exact time to be given the morning of the service. When I set up the appointment I gave them the model number of microwave oven, and when I called for the arrival time of the tech they went through the trouble of looking up the price of the motor (the most likely culprit) to avoid any surprises. They also warned me that if it wasn't the motor it may be the circuit board, and that that repair would not be worth doing. Mr. Broughton came out and performed the service himself - he was professional, personable, knowledgeable, and got the job done in about 20 min (having of course brought the right part). I would definitely use them again, especially because I have environmental concerns with all the electronics trash our society produces -- we only think it's cheaper to go out and buy a new gadget because we don't pay money for the long term impact of the trash.
Description of Work: Replaced motor for turntable on over-the-range microwave oven.

+ -1 moreExcellent and quick. Two house calls plus parts cost under $200.00. Also, when making the appointment they give 30 minute time frame that repairman will arrive. Very punctual. It was so nice not to have to sit around all morning or afternoon waiting as most repair/service companies require.
Description of Work: Fixed GE washing machine. It was making very loud noises during spin cycle and walking (almost running) across the floor. I tried leveling it but that didn't work. Repairman diagnosed that Teflon plates had worn away and ordered new plates. Two days later they had come in and another repairman came to replace worn out parts.

+ -1 moreOur Refrigerator heater broke down. When I called Broughton, I got an appointment the next day! The plumber was on time and diagnosed it immediately, but he didn't have the part for our fridge so he came back 2 days later and fixed it. He changed the part in 10 minutes and was done. Great service - will definitely call them if need arises. My only issue with the company is they don't ask the model number of the fridge when we make the appointment. It would have saved the 2nd trip and our fridge would have been fixed in one day.

I called the company, got a call back from the technician a few hours later, and over the phone he had me make an adjustment that fixed the problem. Now it's working great. I wish it cost a little less of course, but the cost didn't seem unreasonable.

+ -1 moreDiscovered the problem with the freezer when I pulled out some ice cream and opened it to find soup. The freezer was packed with meat from a recent wholesale store run, so we were feeling pressure to get it fixed asap. Called around to a number of places and got answering services and no calls back. Called Broughton and spoke to a very nice woman who put us on the schedule for the next day. Broughton called us back an hour or two later and said they could fit us in the same day. They did a great job for a very reasonable fee. The freezer was beginning to get cold again after about 10 minutes.
Description of Work: Whirlpool freezer went on the fritz. Knowledgeable, prompt, extremely nice technician fixed the problem in about 30 minutes. A small part needed to be replaced that was keeping the compressor from running.

Now we have ice to spare and we are very impressed with Broughton Appliance Service and would definitely call them again if needed.

+ -1 moreWhile repairman was at my house, he ran the empty washer through parts of cycles, and it didn't seem too noisy. Later that night though, with a full load, it was still EXCESSIVELY loud. So raising the legs doesn't seem to have accomplished much of anything except that the washer's lid now hits the shelf above when opened. Fortunately the $74.95 is just a trip charge and for his time, and he assured me that the machine isn't broken. But I am still in a quandary about how to balance the importance of having a pan to prevent potential damage to the wood floor vs. excessive noise. Not being in the habit of running the machine through empty loads, I didn't know that the noise only occurred when the washer was full. Should repairman have known if I didn't tell him? I can't question his analysis since the noise began the day after placing the pan underneath/removing solar water tank. But if his analysis was correct, why didn't raising and leveling the legs fix the noise?
Description of Work: I bought a house in which the existing washing machine "walked" on the wood floor whenever I washed towels. So I put it on a plastic pan, which stopped most of the walking, but suddenly the machine was EXCESSIVELY loud. The repairman said that the ribs on the plastic pan were in contact with moving parts on bottom of Maytag washer. He raised the legs of the washer to try to minimize this. He said the washer had apparently never been leveled before since the legs were in factory position. He says this machine was probably made in 1998. (At the same time as adding the plastic pan, I also had a large broken solar water tank removed; maybe it's removal affected the whole floor of the closet).

They know what they're talking about and they even charge you reasonably. I think they're great and they're probably my number one appliance repair place to call in this area.
