Fairfax Fence

It took 3 months and it was never finished. I called, yelled, emailed, text, ultimately I had to fire them. Some of the many problems we experienced.
We picked out rectangular pavers, when pavers arrived they were square and we were told rectangular ones were back ordered and if we wanted them we would pay more than what was quoted and will take 6 weeks longer. Typical bait and switch.
 Same issue with the deck. They said material we picked was discontinued and installed something we did not want.
They built an outdoor propane fireplace however ordered indoor parts for it. The "installers" had no idea how to hook it up nor were they qualified in mansonary work or gas plumbing. To "chisel" through the back side of the fireplace they used a large nail and hammer. As a result I have had to hire my own installer to fix their work.  This ultimately meant I paid twice to get what I wanted the first time.  
They were supposed to change out windows where deck was build to shatterproof windows so the deck could pass inspection. After 3 months of promising to do it week after week, they never replaced it, now I have to pay someone else to fix their mistake and still have an unsafe deck.
According to their subcontractor they still haven't paid them for the work they did, so the subcontractor is contacting me asking for money and threatening me with legal action and putting a lien on my home.
To summarize, I would not recommend Fairfax fence to anyone.  Despite my best efforts in calling references, staying on top of the contractors, being involved, paying on time and doing my homework, we still ended up with a unfinished and poorly done product.  I have hundreds of pictures as to their work which I am willing to share with anyone that is interested.  I cannot express my shock to see the current rating on Angies list.  Please do not make the same mistake we did.

Did a wonderful job.  On time and sent me an estimate the next day was thorough.  The fence was beautiful. I can't stress enough of how good they were.

I've contacted Fairfax Fence but we haven’t had any service done yet, so I'll wait till we finish that. I think we will end using them. The quoting process was very good. Fairfax Fence were very responsive and showed up on time and got back to me quickly, so we are just waiting to see how that moves forward with it.

Rock solid performance from this company.  Estimate was prompt, contract spelled out everything, coordination with the County was spot on and they left no footprint, other than a little sawdust.  Job well done.  Would recommend this company for future projects.

LONG story short (sort of): We got several estimates from about four companies on fence prices and finally selected Fairfax Fence based on their price and the fact that they were on "Angie's List." We ordered the fence on 4/4/13. The fence was "promised" to be installed within 10 days to two weeks. The fence was FINALLY installed on 5/20/13. Fairfax Fence supplier (On Guard Fence Systems) shipped the fence and then claimed that the posts were "lost" by UPS in shipping. Fairfax Fence had to store the parts of the fence (that was delivered) on our property to wait for the posts to arrive. After promising to come out to install the fence, there were other "excuses" shy FFX Fence had to delay installation. Once the fence was installed, the fence latches & post caps were missing so there was another delay in getting those installed. What I thought was supposed to be ball caps on the entire fence posts, only ended up being installed on the two gates (another long story). After two months of waiting, waiting & more waiting, the fence is now in place (6/3/13 )but there was a little dispute over how many ball caps I should have gotten on the fence. If you have a choice of fence companies, I suggest you go with a higher priced estimate and (hopefully) get better service. I counted on Angie's List (based on the reviews) when I decided to go with this company. Hopefully this review will help others to make better choices.

They were pretty good. It took a little longer, but that is just the function of my yard. They did a good job on it. They were actually the cheapest guy that I talked to. They came when they were supposed to and built the fence. The fence works fine. With regard to responsiveness, they didn’t get back to me all the time. They got back to me enough. With regard to punctuality, I think that each day they were maybe a little bit late coming, but it wasn’t that big of a deal. I am actually looking at them to do a deck. It's between them and a couple of other people. We would definitely use them again in the future.

We have a gorgeous cedar 6 foot privacy fence. The crew arrived on time around 9am and ask questions on how i wanted the fence. They then took measurements and went to work. On occassions they would still come and ask questions to make sure you are happy with it before they continue with the rest of the work. Overall i would hire them again. I found the price to be better than most because i was quoted the same amount for just pine and this was cedar.  They finished by 3 and cleaned up. The owner called the next day to make sure I was happy with the service. He also called during the installation to make sure things were going smoothly.

Called Fairfax Fence, they gave us a quote. We signed a contract, set a date, and they came just when they said they would and built the fence.

Once we had selected Fairfax Fence for the project, it took a couple of iterations to resolve misunderstandings and get to contract language that accurately described what we wanted done.  Then the weather and our own schedules conspired to put things off for about two weeks (which is about what the contract said would be the time before work could begin).  A lumber company truck delivered the materials a day or so before the planned install date.  On the install day a flat-bed truck with two workers arrived at about 8:30AM.  Considering the size of the job, I expected more workers.  But aside from what appeared to be a brief supervisory visit these two did the whole job.  They put in a solid 12-hour work day, with minimal breaks.  The work seemed both arduous and quite skilled.  The resulting fence is exactly what we hoped and expected it would be, and looks very nice indeed.

Fairfax Fence did a great job at our house and built a beautiful fence.  They arrived as scheduled to give us an estimate and completed the task timely and at the price of the estimate. The workers who came to our house had an impressive work ethic, were polite, and cleaned up after themselves.  We would use this company again.

We are extremely pleased with our new Fairfax Fence. After choosing two vendors for estimates based on Angie?s List reviews/ratings, we chose FF for two reasons: 1) their thorough estimate listing all specifications and materials on the original quote plus options we had discussed; 2) they sent a couple of photos with the estimate to provide a style choice, and while one of the styles was not exactly the fence that was estimated, it was exactly the fence we wanted. FF was happy to revise the estimate based on the photo plus a few extra details that we requested. Everyone at FF was responsive and on time start to finish. Even with a snow day the week the fence was to be built it did not disrupt the schedule ? they were able to accommodate the fast turnaround we required and finished the majority of the fence in one day, leaving only one short section and gate to be done the following morning. The fence-building crew was highly respectful of our selves and our property ? paying great attention to detail and leaving nothing behind. We had a wonderful experience using Fairfax Fence ? we highly recommend them ? and will gladly use them again in the future for any fence or deck-building work that need to be done.

They did a good job.  They came out when they said they were going to come out.  They took a full day and they were done.  They had to work until it was quite dark before they finished and they were determined that they were going to do it one day. The quality of the service was excellent.  I recommended them to a client.

They gave us a great fair quote, they were very professional. We wound up doing the project ourselves though.

We were very pleased with the work completed by Fairfax Fence.  The deck is absolutely lovely; other people have commented on both the workmanship and how nice it looks.  The individuals doing the work were easy to deal with; they were efficient and professional.   We had one small problem with a breakdown in internal communication in the company.  When I called them about it they responded immediately.  They followed through with the application of the sealant (30 days after the completion of the deck) when they said they would and made the whole thing easy for us as homeowners.  They cleaned up very well after the job.  We would definitely use them again.

Fairfax Fence were fine. They didn't come out. I sent the guy the dimensions I needed via email. The guy was very nice. The guy was polite on the phone and prompt. 

600 I have a large yard.  It took the crew two days to complete the installation.  They did a good job.

UPDATE: WE WANTED TO BE SURE TO LET EVERYONE KNOW THAT FAIRFAX FENCE   DID COME BACK FOR WARRANTY WORK.  THEY WERE HERE ON TIME AND TOOK CARE OF EVERYTHING CHEERFULLY.  WE REALLY THINK WE JUST HAD A SITUATION WHERE EVERYTHING THAT COULD HAVE GONE WRONG, DID GO WRONG.  WE WANT TO GIVE THEM CREDIT FOR STANDING BY THEIR WORK AND MATERIALS.  WE ARE NOW SATISFIED WITH THE NEW FENCE.


FAIRFAX FENCE WAS ONE OF SEVERAL COMPANIES WE HAD GIVE ESTIMATES FOR A NEW FENCE.  OUR FIRST IMPRESSION OF JAIME, ALONG WITH THE REVIEWS HERE ON ANGIES LIST, CONVINCED US WE SHOULD HIRE THEM, WHICH WE DID IN OCTOBER, 2012. 
UNFORTUNATELY, WE CANNOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY FOR SEVERAL REASONS.....
OUR FENCE WAS BUILT, AND THE OVERALL  QUALITY IS OK.  THEY ALSO CAME BACK (EVENTUALLY) TO REPAIR WARRANTY WORK THAT WAS REQUIRED.  THEY DID ANSWER CALLS AND EMAILS, BUT.
1.  THEY CHANGED THE ORIGINAL START DATE BECAUSE THEIR SUPPLIER WAS UNRELIABLE
2. THEY DID NOT START WORK UNTIL 10 AM, WHICH CAUSED THEM TO FINISH THE JOB WELL AFTER 8 PM ON THE DAY OF INSTALLATION.
3. WE WERE TOLD A CREW WITH A SUPERVISOR WOULD BE ON THE PROPERTY.  SPECIFICALLY, JAIME TOLD US HE WOULD BE BUILDING THE FENCE...HE WAS NOT HERE...EVER.  A SUPERVISOR DID COME TO MAKE SURE THE CREW STARTED, BUT WE WERE LEFT WITH A "FOREMAN" AND TWO HELPERS, NONE OF WHICH SPOKE OR UNDERSTOOD ENGLISH TO A DEGREE THAT MADE COMMUNICATION EASY.  THIS, IN PART, IS WHY THE COMPANY HAD TO COME BACK FOR REPAIRS, AND TO TAKE CARE OF ITEMS THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN DONE RIGHT IN THE FIRST PLACE.
4. THEY WERE TO COME OUT ON A FRIDAY TO REPAIR THE WARRANTY ITEMS, AT 5 PM ON THAT DAY, WITH NO ONE HERE, I HAD TO CALL, ONLY TO BE TOLD THEY WOULD BE HERE ON SATURDAY.  AS I WRITE THIS REVIEW, IT IS NOW 8:45 AM ON SATURDAY, AND THERE IS STILL NO ONE WORKING TO FIX THE WARRANTY ITEMS THAT WERE REVIEWED BY A SUPERVISOR AND WE WERE TOLD WERE LEGITIMATE ISSUES.  LARGE CHUNKS OF CONCRETE FROM THE OLD FENCE WERE LEFT ON OUR PROPERTY, PIECES OF THE OLD FENCE WERE LEFT IN OUR FLOWER BEDS AND THREE ROLLS OF NAILS FROM THE COMPANIES NAIL GUNS WERE ALSO LEFT IN A FLOWER BED.  WE RETURNED THOSE TO THE SUPERVISOR WHO CAME BACK OUT TO REVIEW ALL THIS. 
5,  I POINTED OUT SEVERAL ITEMS DURING THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE FENCE THAT WERE CONCERNS, AND WAS TOLD BY THE "FOREMAN" THEY WOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF....THEY WERE NOT.  SO, HERE WE ARE...WAITING.
6.  I DID FINALLY CALL JAIME BACK, WHO ASSURED  ME THEY WOULD MAKE EVERYTHING RIGHT....SO, HERE WE ARE, WAITING.... I TOLD HIM ABOUT THE ISSUES, AND ADDED THAT THE FENCE WAS TALLER THAN THE 6FT WE REQUESTED AND THAT THERE WERE BIG GAPS AT THE BOTTOM...THOSE THAT WERE LARGE ENOUGH FOR ONE OF OUR SMALL DOGS TO GET UNDER..... LET ME BE CLEAR, WE EXPECTED TO HAVE TO DO SOME BACK FILL, BUT HAD THE FENCE BEEN BUILT TO THE RIGHT HEIGHT, IT WOULD NOT HAVE LED TO THIS ISSUE.
WE PAID THE COMPANY IN GOOD FAITH, ALTHOUGH THE ISSUES WE HAD TO CALL THEM BACK ON WERE NOT VISIBLE UNTIL THE NEXT MORNING, BECAUSE AS WE SAID, THE CREW DID NOT LEAVE UNTIL NIGHTFALL AND WE COULD NOT SEE EVERYTHING.  EVERYTHING IN THIIS REVIEW IS DOCUMENTED WITH EMAILS, PHONE LOGS AND PHOTOS, IF ANYONE WOULD LIKE TO SEE THEM.
IT IS IMPERATIVE THAT IF YOU HIRE THIS COMPANY THAT YOU WATCH THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE FENCE, AND THE CREWS, TO MAKE SURE THEY BUILD THE FENCE AS PROMISED BY THE OWNER.  WE DID THE BEST WE COULD, BUT IT SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN ON US TO MAKE SURE IT WAS DONE AS PROMISED.  JAIME AND HIS CREWS LET US DOWN, AND WE WILL NOT RECOMMEND OR DO BUSINESS WITH THEM, OR ANY COMPANY ASSOCIATED WITH THEM, EVER AGAIN.
**THE CREW SENT HERE TO DO REPAIRS FINALLY SHOWED UP 40 MINUTES LATE ON SATURDAY

We were very pleased with the service.  We had originally told them that there were 13 posts that needed to be replaced, and one rail. They came out on the date promised (after a rain delay--not their fault) and completed the job in a single day as we had requested.  In fact, they replaced 14 posts rather than the 13 we had originally agreed, because they found one additional post that was in need of replacement, and also replaced not one but three rails, all at the original bid price.  The workmen were careful and polite.  They removed the existing rails and the concrete in which they had been set, and set the new rails in dry concrete, as they had indicated in their proposal.  (Not familiar with this techniques, but it seems to be fine.)  They also realigned three gates,  reset the posts and replaced the broken gate springs.  
When they were realigning one of the gate posts, it also proved to be rotten, and snapped off at the ground level, as had the 14 line posts. Clearly, this was not their fault.   The work crew did not have a gate post with them, however (as there was no indication that one would be needed).  I called their supervisor, Aaron, explained what had happened, and asked them to replace the broken gate post as soon as possible.  They did so, in very short order and without any additional charge.  Given some of the horror stories that we have seen on line about fencing companies, we found this extraordinary.
The supervisor, was polite and accommodating.

How did it go overall?  A+++.  I am over the moon happy. 

Fairfax Fence was one of several fence companies I contacted to build a fence in my back yard.  I interacted with Jaime, who was extremely responsive and returned my phone calls and emails immediately.  Of the companies I asked for quotes, Fairfax Fence's bid was less than half of the top estimate.  As an example, Long Fence quoted me $10,000 while Fairfax Fence quoted $4,000 for the same type and length of fencing. 
Jaime was very helpful, and even helped save me money by clearing up a misconception I had about pressure-treated lumber always being cheaper than cedar.  Once he told me that, due to various market conditions at that particular time, cedar would be less expensive, I went with the cedar, which I prefer.  He also suggested that for the fence-post supports partially buried underground, pressure-treated will hold up better; so the fence has the beauty of cedar in the privacy fencing sections and the benefits of pressure-treated for the posts which would be in constant contact with the earth. 
My neighbors have told me how beautiful the fence looks, and have mentioned that when they need to replace their fences, they will definitely contact Fairfax Fence.
I cannot recommend this company more highly based upon my experience.

Jamie came out and did the estimate and Aaron followed up with the proposal.  They were by far the most professional of all of the proposals that we got.  As for the work crew they were amazing.  They arrived at exactly  the time we had agreed to and began working immediately.  They were a well oiled  machine, that worked non stop with an end result of a fence that runs straight and true.  We were so impressed with their work we have decided on having them do an additional internal fence.  Aaron was there to answer any questions and his crew flew through the job. 
Professional, on time, on budget and outstanding product...this is the team you want for fencing.

Perfectly! I called and left a message with a return phone call coming that day from Mark. We discussed the fence specifications and scheduled a day for him to come out and measure for the estimate. He arrived early to measure and was very polite and unobtrusive. He measured and then was gone before I knew he was even starting. I received a detailed written estimate via email within 2 days. Due to our HOA, I had to request permission to install the fence at which time they requested drawings of the fence and gates. Mark provided them within 10 minutes of my phone request! He then waited patiently while we received approval, even calling to make sure I didn't need any further information to complete my request. Once we received approval, Mary Ann called all the appropriate utility companies to have our yard marked. The fence was installed within the week of my request to schedule (after HOA approval). The men showed up early on the day of installation. They were excellent. Our fence was put up within the day and it was simply perfect. The yard was cleaned up of any and all debris resulting from the installation. Perfect from beginning to end. Wonderful customer service from all the staff.

Called for estimate by phone since I knew the type of fence I wanted from Internet research. Aaron was very knowledgeable and professional - sent an estimate by email just as he said he would. Fairfax Fence proposal was slightly more expensive than the others I received. Since I was trying to fit this project in around an extended trip I didn't have time to bargain for a lower price - first offer had to be best and final.
