Taking on a major remodeling project is hard.  The process of interviewing potential contractors, hammering out the particulars of the design, making the time for your project, and clearing your calendar, is a stressful and challenging endeavor. So finding the right contractor is essential not only for a successfully completed project, but also for your own sanity and mental well-being.
That said, I?m pleased to report that Ron Martin Construction has just turned my aged and outdated, dark, and closed in kitchen into an updated and contemporary, bright, open space that has transformed the lower level of our home into a cheerful and elegant entertainment suite.

I?m very happy with the final result. I?m also happy with the process getting to the result. Throughout the job, and even during the bidding process Ron has been very communicative. Communication is essential to a successful contracting endeavor.

The great communication was evident while the bidding process was still open. Ron always answered my calls and questions
and was never late to an appointment. When he presented the bid we sat at the kitchen table while we read through every page of the contract. All questions were answered and changes were made as needed to the contract before we signed.

The down payment covered the cabinets. Ron didn?t cash the check until the cabinets were delivered. Work began the Monday after cabinet delivery. The tear out was performed cleanly and efficiently. Let me stress the cleanliness - even my driveway was swept clean at the end of each work day. More importantly I was left with a working skeleton of a kitchen. I could still make coffee and throw together a meal. The skeletal kitchen and the crew?s attention to cleanliness minimized chaos and made the entire process far more bearable.

There were a couple problems with the tile and granite. Both problems were outside of Ron?s control. I ordered the wrong color tile. This caused a delay in delivery and pushed the end date of the job back a couple of days. It also added additional cost when the tile company, Turquoise Granite and Marble, charged both a shipping and restocking fee.

Ron went to bat for me. He got the restocking fee lowered and then he paid half of that fee. I didn?t ask for that courtesy, he offered and stood by that offer making up for poor customer service from Turquoise Granite and Marble.

Likewise he facilitated communication with the granite company. Rather than installing one long counter, Turquoise Granite and Marble cut the piece adding an unnecessary seam. Ron urged me to follow up and I ended up getting a refund of some of the initial cost.

In fact, there was not a single question or concern that Ron didn?t personally follow up and fix. The workmanship is superior rivaled only by the quality of the customer service. The value of the completed kitchen far exceeds the cost of the project. I highly recommend Ron Martin Construction and would not hesitate to hire them for future projects.

Numerous delays .I taiked to another contractor who quoted my job 3000 thousands lower. He said it should had taken about 4 to 7 days at the most.  A job that was overcharged and delayed. I calling him back for a leaking shower today.I wouldn "t recommend his company to my worst enemy.I should be refund at least half of my payment, but I won't hold my breath My friend will  be the only one used in the future.I would had used him except for his hospitalization.

The very best experience I have ever had with a contractor.  Ron was meticulous in attention to detail.  He was immediately responsive to all messages from us.  The quality of the work was far beyond expectations.  A friend who had the same work done at about the same time but by a different contractor has had nothing but continuous problems with siding coming loose and even pieces completely falling off.  He contacted us months after job completion just to ensure we were fully satisfied and had not had any problems.  With other contractors I have hired, once the job was completed, they fell off the face of the earth, refusing to even respond to questions once they were paid and gone.

I AM SIXTY YEARS OLD AND HAVE HAD MANY DEALINGS WITH CONTRACTORS.  RON'S WORK FROM START TO FINISH AND BEYOND WAS THE VERY BEST I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED.  AS OF JULY 2015, I HAVE REACHED OUT TO HIM AGAIN REGARDING A FULL BATHROOM REMODEL AND POSSIBLE OTHER JOBS.

I CANNOT OFFER A HIGH ENOUGH RECOMMENDATION.  THE PEACE OF MIND THAT COMES FROM WORKING WITH A CONTRACTOR THAT I KNOW I CAN TRUST CANNOT BE OVERSTATED.

It went extremely well and hardly inconvenienced.  If there was a problem, he addressed it right away.  He was patient and answered all questions.  He provided recommendations on lighting as well as the cabinet lighting that fit our taste.  It was an excellent experience.

Ronnie was very responsive and accommodating. He responded to my initial inquiry (on a Saturday morning) within about 30 minutes. That same afternoon he stopped by and gave me an estimate. Monday morning he arrived and completed the work by noon, even with a last minute change that I asked for.

Mr. Martin initially somehow missed my first phone message on 10/22/13, but called on 11/1/13 and left an extremely nice message asking if it was too late to compete for this job.  We set up a time to visit and it went extremely well...we were very impressed with him.   We were waiting for a plan to be followed by a cost estimate, but we moved on with our project and selected another contractor.  We sensed Mr. Martin was very busy.  He was very professional, personable, and grateful for our patience.  So even though we did not hire him for this project, we wanted to put in a good word for him.

The entire process, from listening to my needs, wants, and ideas; providing design drawings; infinite patience during my review & choice process for cabinets, hardware, countertops, flooring, paint colors -- just everything; the work itself, and follow-up has been totally professional, timely, and I just have to say fun!  We have two more projects on our list, and I'll definitely be going back to him as we begin those projects. I highly recommend!

I received a number of requests by Angies List  to provide an assessment of a contractor that I had use.   I provided my assessment of Ron Martin, a contractor that I had used for a kitchen renovation.  My original write up with respect to Ron Martin was posted on Angies List and later removed.  I provided an honest assesment of my experience with Ron Martin.  Ron Martin had contacted me when I first submitted my assessment to Angies List and he requested that I remove my assessment.  I asked him if any parts of my write up was inaccurate.  Ron Martin did not object to any portions of my assessment being inaccurate.  I stated that my assessment stands as written.  It should be  noted that Ron Martin would not accept credit cards, nor would he honor the advertised discount that was displayed on  Angies List.  I would like to resubmit my honest assessment of the contractor, Ron Martin.    I am providing more detail on my experience with Ron Martin.  We experienced a number of issues with the performance of Ron Martin.  First, we provided a list of  the Kitchenaid appliances that we would be purchasing (gas cook-top, exhaust downdraft, dishwasher, refrigerator, wine cooler, warmer and pendant lights).   All the appliance specifications were reviewed and acknowledged by Ron.  In fact, Ron Martin had performed his own on-line review of the appliances specifications.   His initial proposal which included purchasing of Kraftmaid cabinets was unacceptable due to the high cost .  We went to Lowes and used the services of John to essentially determine whether we could purchase  cabinets at a reduced cost.  We were able to realize cost savings by purchasing from a different cabinet manufacturer; Aristocrat.  it was discovered that Ron used the design services of Donna at the same Lowes.  It was later discovered that using the services of John upset Donna and she brought this matter up to Ron.  John  was able to provide options for better cabinet costs.  The kitchen design with minor changes was presented to Ron and accepted.  As a result, Ron's efforts were limited to installation of the kitchen cabinets, appliances,  lights, attic stairs, purchase and installation of tube lighting, and refinishing the kitchen floor.  (It should be noted that I purchased attic stairs to facilitate workman access to the attic which was required.)   Problems experienced included Ron's inablity to incorporate the cook-top downdraft.  This concerned us as Ron had assured us that this could be accomplished and it is included in the price of the contract dated October 25, 2012.  In addition, Ron had reviewed the area that the downdraft was to be placed.  Ron stated that he might be able to accomplish the down-draft at an additional cost.  As this proved to be challenging for Ron, we chose to pursue an updraft solution.  The updraft solution did cost us more in equipment cost (hood and extension kit), but was an easier installation for the contractor.     There was also a problem with refinishing the kitchen floor.  After it was completed the first time it was discovered that there were bubbles on the floor.  We requested that this be corrected.  Ron's subcontractor, Joe stated that he would arrive at 8AM on a designated day in April.  This time was set by Joe.  Joe stated that if he was not there by 8AM he would not be able to perform the work that day as he would be on other jobs.  Joe also stated that we needed to be out of the house after completion of the floor refinishing.  I called Joe the day before and left a voicemail to confirm our appointment for 8AM the following day.  Joe did not return my call.  Joe did not arrive at 8AM on the scheduled day, nor did he call to advise that he would be late.  We contacted Ron at about  9AM.  Our call went into vociemail.  As we were unable to contact Ron we left the house around 9:20 AM as according to Joe's previous statement if he was not there at 8AM he would not be able to work that day.   Based on Joe' statement we cancelled our hotel reservations for that night.  Ron later stated that there was no need to be out of the house after the floor refinishing was complete.  It took a number of weeks until we could set up another date and time that was acceptable to both.  Another issue involved the refrigherator.  When the refrigerator was installed it was discovered that there was essentially no clearance on the sides.  We expressed our concern with this lack of clearance but Ron said that this would not be a problem.  We did request that the screws be counter-sunk to ensure they would not damage the refrigerator finish.  It should be noted that the side panel was suggested by Ron for looks.  We did experience a problem with the refrigerator and the technician stated that there should be more clearance on the sides to prevent compressor damage.  (There should be a 1/2 inch clearance on each side.  This is called out in the refrigerator manual) .  We brought this matter up to Ron via a certified letter, but he refused to correct the problem.  We anticipated that the corrective action would be to remove the side panel or reduce it in size.  Ron stated that he was using the design plans of John from Lowes.  This is an incorrect statement.  The problem is not the design plan, but the side panel that was suggested by Ron.  It should be noted that Donna from Lowes claimed that these were her plans and this claim can be documented with Lowes.  Regardless of who claims ownership of the plans, Ron as the contractor should have the expertise to review the plans and appliance specifications and act responsibly and professionally.  In the contract of October 25, 2012 it states " all labor is warranted for a period of one year from date of completion."  Ron has refused to honor this provision of the contract.    In another matter, We requested one small change which was to raise the desk in the kitchen about 2 inches.   Ron' people had installed the desk and Ron stated this this additional effort took about 6 hours and resulted in a cost of about $250.  I did pay this additional cost along with a progress payment of $7000.  When I questioned the additional cost, Ron became very agressive and obnoxious and threatened to walk off the job.  This upset my wife and essentially reduced her to tears.    In summary with respect to Ron's performance with my renovation, Ron did not act in a professional manner.  It was a most unpleasant experience.  I would not recommend Ron Martin.  The question for Angies List is  why was my original assessment removed?

Their people are very nice but they are expensive.  They did good work.  The price for doing the work on the house was fine but he charged me $400 to do the little piece under the door and that was expensive.  The inspection was $250.  The quality of work was excellent.  They were responsive; they came a few days later I called them and they were here on time all the time.

It was a pleasure working with Ron and his crew from start to finish; they were very professional and flexible.  We had an old screened porch across the back of our house. It had beautiful views but we wanted to convert it to an indoor family room that opened to our existing kitchen space. At our first meeting, Ron walked through our existing space, listened to our somewhat vague ideas, and came up with a design and building plan within a week. He gave us a start date and an estimated completion date and he met those dates. Our new room is even better than I had envisioned!  It opens to our old kitchen, which we plan to remodel ourselves within the next year. Ron was very helpful with design ideas for our future kitchen space as well.
We especially appreciate Ron's willingness to work with us on a couple of special requests. We are DIY'ers, and so we wanted some of the job--i.e., the flooring and painting--left unfinished for us to complete later. We also wanted to re-use much of our old porch's tongue and groove pine walls and ceiling boards. Ron and his carpenters took care to remove the boards with minimal damage, and then neatly stacked the pine boards in our garage. After we refinished the wood, the carpenters re-installed the pine boards on the ceiling of our new room. We really appreciate their willingness to help us reclaim and re-purpose some of our old porch into the new room.
Ron got our job finished within 4 weeks, with minimal cost over-runs (due to unforeseen existing problems and our switch from drywall ceiling to reclaimed ceiling planks). The men were professional, prompt, and kept our jobsite clean. They tolerated our dogs, who occasionally checked on their work, with a smile. The craftsmanship is excellent. We love our new room and are happy to recommend Ron for home renovation and remodeling jobs. In fact, if we hit any snags in our future projects, we know who to call!

I cannot say enough about that man and his employees.  He is just incredible.  It is so unusual when you initiate a contract with remodeling.  It seems someone comes and sells it to you and someone else does the work.  He was on site and called every single day.  He did have him employees here but he came and inspected.  If there was an issue he came and addressed it. The plumber installed all the bathroom fixtures.  The tub was dripping and I thought maybe it just wasn’t turned off.  If anything, the drip increased and was enough to fill the tub.  It was 7:30 at night and I decided to call him.  He said he understood and would be right over; 35 minutes later the plumber was behind him.  They stayed for 1 hour 15 minutes until the tub was fixed. We will be using him in the future.  We had him do our kitchen and it turned out gorgeous.  We had another construction company in here that I would not recommend to anybody.  Ron Martin is 100xs better than anyone else I have ever seen.  We have hardwood floors and every single day they put down coverings in our front foyer, steps, and upstairs.  They made sure there were no nicks or scratches.  Everything in our bedroom was covered.  Every night, they took up all of the floor coverings from the entrance of the bedroom all the way to the front door.  They swept and vacuumed everything.

We initially contacted Ron Martin in early 2010 to discuss the proposed project, which was a complete remodeling of our kitchen. While the kitchen was in good condition, the cabinets and countertops were dated and the layout was difficult to work in. Ron met with us, reviewed our hand drawn diagrams, and discussed with us in detail our “Wish List.” He took measurements and within two weeks provided us with computerized pictures of his proposal. Not only did he include our designs, he also proposed other revisions. Once we agreed on designed, he then priced out the project. Before finalizing the contract, he said he needed to open up several walls and the ceiling to verify plumbing and structural issues, which we agreed too. With the additional information, we then had to revise the design (it turned out that one wall was load-bearing and could not be removed without significant additional costs) but even with the revisions, the cost was the same. Work started in February, on time. It finished in June due to our delays in picking out floor and backsplash tiles and then the tiles had to be backordered, which took about 4 weeks. Work was done efficiently and within the time frames. Ron kept up informed of all aspects of the project. He would call every evening to check on the progress, to inform us of next steps, and when the workmen would be at our home the next day. He frequently stopped by to check on the work and what we thought.   Subcontractors (plumbing, electrical, tiling) were excellent to work with and very professional. We wanted special 2X2 decorative tiles placed in the backsplash and the work was beautiful. Every night, the kitchen was left clean and so was the garage, which was being used as a staging area. We enjoyed working with Ron and his crew and were so delighted with the new kitchen that we have recommended him to several neighbors. In addition, we will be contacting him in the near future to design and remodel our master bathroom, put in dormer windows in the master bathroom, and enlarge the walk-in closet. While the overall cost of the kitchen remodeling was more than we would have liked to spent, the final results are much better  than we could have hoped for and well worth the price. We recommend R. W. Martin Custom Building without any reservation. Besides, he is a really nice person!
