Fantastic.....
Description of Work: I wanted 4 trees removed. I went online put in a request. Matt called me on his way home from vacation on a Friday. I had the quote the next morning. I had to change my plans due to the Homeowners not letting me remove the trees. I asked for another quote, again I had it the next day. They cleaned up and removed dead limbs and canopied 8 tress. It looks amazing. I would highly recommend then to everyone.....

The owner, Matt, came out and inspected the tree and confirmed it was dead. Matt explained why he thought the tree had died, answered my questions, and assured us it was not an infestation of some sort that might spread to the other trees. His office then sent a proposal that I received the next morning via email. The proposal contained various options, like removing the tree pices once it had been cut or cutting it into firewood lengtht, and grinding out the stump. We opted not to grind the stump. Once I accepted the proposal and mailed it back to them, 2 workers came out a few days later. The workers were polite, pleasant, efficient and removed the tree, mulched it, and cleaned up in less than an hour. I did not watch the process, just checked in once with them. The tree was relatively close to the back porch and in a fenced yard, but they removed it without any incidents. We have used Goodfellers in the past to trim some front yard trees and to remove portions of some back yard cedars that had snapped during a winter storm years back. We found them to be very reasonably priced for a full service, insured tree service. We were very pleased with their work then as we are now, and would definitely recommend them and would use them again as the need arises. I would recommend using their on-line contact form on their website, as we had been playing phone tag up until then. Things went smoothly once I filled it out .

Hired Goodfellers to cut 2 trees down in my backyard. I had called 3 other companies and tried to obtain estimates from all of them, but Goodfellers was the only one to get back to me with an estimate and to do the work. They got the 2 trees cut in less than a day and did a good job of cleaning up afterwards.

Matt and his team with Goodfellers Tree Service were great. Estimates were emailed quickly. Offered adjustments to estimate when a reduction of service was requested. Had one 80 ft plus Pine tree removed and 2, 80 ft plus Pine trees trimmed - all were located close to structures. No spikes were used to minimize damage and stress to the trees that were trimmed. Great care was taken to ensure falling branches did not hit or damage nearby structures.

Before contacting Good Fellers Tree and Excavating I contacted 2 other similar companies. All of the other companies offered Free Quotes but none were as fast and accomidating as Good Fellers. They were able to give me a free quote on the tree I wanted removed and they also provided me with some recommendations as well. We recieved the work proposal the next day as expected along with a copy of Good Fellers Liability Policy. We were impressed with this as we have heard many horror stories of companies NOT being insured. So providing a copy of thier proof of insurance was a huge plus for us. After we signed the proposal and scheduled the date for service they arrived early and finished early much to our liking. The things that impressed is most about Goodfellers Tree and Excavating is the fact that they're insured and certified Arborist who are ontime, professional, and offered a price half that of other contracters and are willing to meet or beat the price of thier competitors. Our family HIGHLY recommends Goodfellers for your tree and excavating needs. The Frye Family

Matt came out and gave us by far the best estimate that we got out of 3 different companies. We had a very large pignut hickory tree taken down. It was over our house, deck, and the power lines. After my first two estimates I was pretty discouraged and thought we couldn't afford to have it taken down. Matt was very knowledgeable about all of the trees in our yard and gave us estimates for multiple services above and beyond what we had done. He sent a detailed email with proof of insurance and other information included with the estimate. Our yard was left clean when the crew was done. It is a big relief to know now that the tree that was once a big concern was safely taken down by Goodfeller's.

We had a very hard time getting a hold of the company but they came recommended by friends so we thought it might be worth it to wait for them. We got an estimate but it was not for the work that we wanted (several things were not quite right) so we asked for another estimate. We got that estimate and it seemed like a pretty good price. This was on 21 May 2013. They agreed to start the next day because we were having some other work done to the back yard. They showed up and everything seemed to go well, we even asked them if they had time to remove the boxwoods and bushes in the front of the yard which they agreed to but then they couldn't do the stump grinding. They thought that they might be able to be back on Friday but it was going to be Memorial day Weekend so it might be Tuesday. I told them it wouldn't be a problem. I paid cash for this part of the job. Friday came and went, no word but I wasn't too worried because I figured they would be out on Tuesday like they had promised. I sent a email to them on Monday and got an email back that they had a breakdown but would be out that week to grind the stumps. They never showed up and we started to call them to see if they were planning on finishing the job. We never heard back from them despite leaving several messages. I talked to the office, who I think is the owners wife, and explained that we just wanted to know if they were still interested in doing to job. She said yes but no one called us. Finally the week of June 17th ( I don't remember the exact date because they didn't schedule with us, they just showed up and finished the work) and this was over 3 weeks after they had promised to finish. We got home and found that the side walk at our house had been BROKEN by their stump grinder. We called them and we got a message that they had fired the person on the job and they wanted some pictures. We emailed these to them and then got a message that the reason they had broke the sidewalk was that the workmanship on the sidewalk was "poor" and they weren't going to be responsible for it. We called them back and told them that they were responsible, it wasn't broken before they came and they should pay for this. Today, July 1st, the owner (Matt) drove up, (no appointment to stop by) to explain why "in 13 years he hadn't broken anything and this wasn't his fault". He further said it was my fault because the sidewalk work was poor (although it hadn't broken in the last 8 years) and this was the only way to get the stump grinder to the stumps. I told him he should have told me that, showed him how his workers could have accessed the flower bed from the driveway and that way I could have had a choice about whether I want' them to finish. He said I had contracted him for this work and it was my fault, that I had to accept the blame. "He would be out of business if he told everyone that the sidewalk might break with the grinder on it". He then started to wash away the concrete to "prove to me" that it was the concrete's fault. He explained that his insurance wasn't going to pay for this and even if they did he has a $1000 deductible and he has no intention of paying $1000 for this. It isn't my fault he has a high deductible, nor is it my fault that they broke my concrete. He started to yell at me and I had to get my husband on the phone. He should have called and made an appointment to come out so that I wouldn't have been here alone when he was here. Basically, I wouldn't recommend this company to anyone. I now know why most of my neighbors are using tree times and other companies. This guy was a jerk and wants to accept no responsibility for his workers error. If he didn't think it was their fault why did he fire the worker? RESPONSE TO COMMENT FROM PROVIDER In response to the "shady things people do to get new sidewalks for fee". I am not sure what that means. I didn't ask him to give me a new sidewalk for free, so I don't think that is an appropriate comment. As for the other comment that I knew there was only one way across the walkway and that my sidewalk could break, how ridiculous of a comment. If I had known that he would break my sidewalk don't you think I would have found a different company? Lastly, I guess I don't care how many happy customers he has had, this is one unhappy customer and I am sure that there are others.
Description of Work: We had a Leland cypress removed, a pear tree removed, and a pine tree removed and a pear tree trimmed. In addition on the day they were there they agreed to add on several box woods removed and other bushes removed in the front yard . They ground up the wood and removed the stumps.

There were no complaints about the work we did on this property prior to the stump grinding issue. They were very happy with the tree work performed. Her rating of "F" is out of her frustration due to her broken sidewalk. She hired us to grind stumps. The only way to her stumps was across the walkway and she knew this. The walkway looked thick but was very poorly constructed and not reinforced. We are not responsible for poor workmanship on the concrete contractors part. This is how the law works. People do very shady things to get new sidewalks for free. We did great work on her property. We have more than 12,400 happy and repeat customers since November 2000!

Free estimate: punctually arrived on date as promised. Completely removed red oak over 60 feet high which was leaning over deck and house. Separate pricing was provided for removing tree, removing wood, and grinding stump so that we had control of final cost. Price of work was exactly as estimated. Promptly arrived as scheduled. Estimated work time was one half day and tree was completely removed within 3 hours, with stump removal ("grinding") completing the time schedule as predicted. Tree was removed piece by piece and lowered without any damage to very close wooden deck. All brush was removed, and final clean-up included leaf blowing to give the area a clean look. Goodfellers had previously removed a very large tree for us at a previous residence in the same county, so we expected the same professional outcome and we were not disappointed.

Goodfellers did a very nice job performing the work. They did exactly what I asked. They even The price was very good. They even accommodated my last-second request to leave the wood. My only complaint is the amount of time it took to get back to me to set a date. They did explain that they were having computer problems, so that is understandable. Overall, I am very happy with Goodfellers, and I would use them again.

Their performance on an initial work hired was excellent. When I contacted them to come straighten a tree in my home, he came looked at it and gave me an estimate and projected date of work. They never came to do the work and several calls to the company have been ignored. I would not recommend nor hire them in the future. The work done at my rental home which they did complete was $400. The work they gave me an estimte which they did not complete was $110. A simple phone call to say we won't do it and the reason why would have sufficed but I never got a call back. I hired another company and they took care of it without any impact to any of the utility lines.

The member lives on a corner lot with 12 or more utility lines marked in proximity to the tree. We can not safely stake his tree without risk of severing utility lines (minimum $500 fine). This was a $110 job, not a $400 job as stated above. This job was also confirmed well after the major storms struck our area. We are still (3 months later) responding to storm damage calls and we expressed this to the member. We are handling calls and scheduling work in a priority based manner. Our priorities at this time are to protect life and property.

Took them 2 weeks to return my call for an estimate. When they came out to give me an estimate I was sent the estimate in writing that night. I scheduled time for them to come out and do the work and they were a no show. When I called later that evening to see what happened; they said they would have Matt call me back. I never heard from Matt. There was no explanation and no effort to right the wrong.

Response from Goodfellers Tree Service
Our company has fielded more than 450 calls since the 2 large storms that struck our area starting June 30th. We have responded to more than 98% of those calls and kept 5 crews working 10-12 hour days since the first storm June 30. We are doing the best we can to respond to the needs of our community. We don't call our customes after 8 pm as a matter of company policy. We would be glad to refer him to a reputable company to complete his tree care needs. As a former Marine, I am diligent, responsive and thurough with our clients needs. Tree jobs are all different. The member's job was scheduled to be the last job of the day. We simply ran out of daylight. We were unable to contact the member at the number we had on file at 4 pm. We boast the highest customer rating in Northern Virginia on Google.

Over all i was very pleased with how the job went despite some unforseen difficulties. I did have minimal contact with the company, one phone call and two face to face meetings. I felt as though i could trust them and that did not come back to bite my in this case. I would very strongly reccomend them to my friends and family. One thing i will mention is that if you do not elect to have them remove the wood, where the tree falls is where it will be when they leave. I discarded the wood myself, but it was an eyesore until i dealt with it myself. This is nothing negative on the company, just somethjing i wasnt well prepared for. Also with the stump grinding, there was just a mound of sawdust, no dirt or anything to cover it up. This is nothing negative about the company, just something that i did not take into consideration.
Description of Work: I had a dead 40ft tall Oak tree in my back yard which had all the branches previously cut off. It was a dead 40ft Oak trunk, which was percariously placed in between my shed and my deck (2 feet on each side). I received a quote for the cost of the cutting down of the tree in 4 to 6 foot sections which was $240, the cost of removal of the wood, which was $150, the cost of the grinding of the stump which was 120, the grinding a small stump in my yard whic was $20, and the grinding of a larger stump in my yard which was $80. I elected to have the tree cut down and the stump ground and the smaller stump ground. I would discard the wood myself. The owner i spoke to on the phone was very responsive and told me that the job would take about an hour. They showed up 2 hours past when they said they would becuase of another job taking longer than expected. The top of the tree was eaten out by the wildlife in my backyard and when they went to bring down the first section, it broke into several pieces, one of which smashed a 2 foot by 3 foot hole in my deck. They stopped the job and took many pictures of it and said that they would take care of it. They finished the job and brought the rest of the tree down and cut it into the 4 to 6 foot sections as promised. Upon leaving they would not take payment and said they would only accpet payment after the issue with my deck had been resolved. About one week later they showed back up at my house while my wife was home and repaired my deck as good as new. When they did take payment, it was $360.00 for what i thought would be a $380.00 job.

After we did not hear from him, we determined we had the wrong phone # on file and followed up with him on Friday September 2nd prior to removing him from our "Estimates To Do" file on the company laptop.

We had some very big trees that had died and if they ever fell on their own would definitely fall on the back part of our house. We called just about every tree service on this list and in the telephone yellow pages and finally a friend said to try calling Goodfellers. We called and made an appointment and didn't expect much, we've learned tree services make appointments and don't keep them all the time, but Matt Denson came out, was very professional and gave us a very reasonable estimate. He came out the day he said he would come and did the work without damaging any of our propery, or the neighbor's property.

Response from Goodfellers Tree Service
Member, Those trees had been overcome by invasive insects, but that wasn't the catalyst in their decline. In attempts to re-grade the property, these trees were buried about 8' above the root flare. This has an effect on trees which prevents them from being able to absorb the vital micronutrients and water they needed to fuel their large canopies. Once the trees lost their ability to transpire, the tree quickly becomes susceptible to disease and insects and thus dies due to its unintended strangulation of the root system.
