We have had a terrible experience with Amerigas and would like to warn others to stay away. We were quoted $69.99 for a tank inspection (we own our own tank). The man arrived, was friendly and helpful, except at first he couldn't be sure whether we had a leak or not. After checking a second time, he decided we did not have a leak but said someone would have to return to measure the distance from the tank to the vent (it should be 10 feet) as he had forgotten a tape measure. I offered him the use of one of our 3 retractable 25-foot tape measures in our garage to use, however he declined. I repeated my offer and request that he do the measurement 2 more times and each time he declined saying the company would send someone else. He reported that someone would come within the next week to fill our tank. We then got a bill for $250. My understanding was that bill was for the inspection and to fill the tank with propane. Now 4 weeks later we still have not had our tank filled and they claim the $250 charge is only for the man to come out to do the inspection - the inspection we were quoted $69.99 for. After over 60 minutes on Hold and multiple conversations with different service agents - they cannot explain what the additional $181 is for or why our tank has not been serviced yet. Please find a different company - this company is misleading and has poor customer service.

We have a camp site in Wisconsin that we was get charge a lot of money to use their tanks so we returned the 2 - 100 lbs. tanks ourselves because they were going to charge us for that also. We want into the office in Baraboo and talked to the lady there she told us where to leave the tanks and she would take care of the paperwork, that was in Sept of 2019. We have been getting a bill about every other month about this and we keep calling them, they keep saying they will take care of it. I was just on hold with them for an hour and half, just got cut off. You can't even get a hold of they to fix the problem. This hurts our credit rating and I can't do anything about it because of them. DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS COMPANY!!!!!

I just got socked with a $163.00 fee because AmeriGas had to check for leaks. A bunch of friends on Facebook said their propane provider did the same for them but there was no charge. I was also informed that AmeriGas also charges a lot more for propane by the gallon. If you are looking for a propane provider, look else there. I'm currently looking for a new propane provider.

I built my house in 2005 and we installed a propane assisted heating system. I picked Amerigas for the sole reason that I had seen their trucks in the area.The system works well however every year my propane service has been a nightmare. The first year I was in the house Amerigas sent my first few bills to the wrong address. Having never seen the bill I did not pay it. We were away for a few days and they came and shut off the gas. When we came home to a cold house as it was winter I made the call and was told our gas was shut off for not paying the bill. They never called just came and shut off the gas. When we finally sorted out that they had sent the bill to the wrong address they wanted to charge us $200.00 to come out and light the pilot lights and ?re install? service. That was a good fight.

The years that followed have been an annual adversarial relationship. Amerigas has the worst customer service I have ever seen. There is absolutely no customer loyalty whatsoever and ALL customers need to watch their bills for increases and hidden charges. I always feel as though I am being ?ripped off?. In 2013 I was on a budget plan paying $145.00 a month at a locked in price of $2.49. That was last year?s fight and if I had not done so I would have been charged an additional 50% per gallon. This year my first monthly bill was $220 as opposed to the $145. When I went to Amerigas to find out why it had increased it was the same fight as last year and I was told that they will take a look and attempt to adjust the amount. Basically if I didn?t complain I would have gotten ripped off again as the price per gallon jumped from $2.49 to $3.54 and I was never informed even though I pay for the Ameri Guard program which is supposed to be a locked in annual  lower price per gallon. I am so sick of the annual fight with Amirgases shameless attempt to steel from me that I am having a geothermal contractor come out and give me an estimate.  I am also looking at purchasing my own tank. A glorious day will see Amerigases propane tank out of the ground and loaded on a truck heading away from my home. By far one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with.

On 1/30/14 I contacted Amerigas for propane as my tank was at the 35% mark.   I got the answering machine, at which I left a voice message.  I did not receive a call back but, on 2/6/14 the propane truck arrived and delivered the propane.  I called the office to find out what price they were charging me as I did not hear back from anyone with this information.  I was not pleased with the initial quote and negotiated for a better price.  However, the driver had input his information into the computer system while I was talking to the representative and I was told that she may not be able to change the invoice to the price negotiated.  I was told that an invoice was forthcoming and to call the office if the price was not updated, upon receipt of the invoice.  I must note, that the representative was nice and professional.  I received the invoice and the correct price was reflected.

After paying to have a company come out to clean and service the fireplace for the upcoming winter season we were not overly surprised to hear the serviceman state that he could not complete the checkout due to not having any gas in the tank.  The automatic fill promised every year for the past three years had once again not happened.  Why we thought it would I'll never know.  After three to four years of fighting the same fight - automatic fill on tank - we gave up and dropped Amerigas. 
We spent three years actually going in and talking to first the front desk staff and then the manager(s).  The front desk staff rotated between friendly and surly and all unable to help.  The three managers over the course of the years, always new, made the same statement - "I'm terribly sorry for the inconvenience.  I'm new to this site and have been brought in to clean up the problems. I will ensure it doesn't happen again."  The exact same statement from three different managers! One, the second, actually attempted to amend the situation by getting the tank filled and only charging us for half the fill.  It was also the only way to keep us.  After numerous conversations with the last manager we opted to have them cancel the service all together and an appointment was set for the tank removal.  The appointment date arrived but alas, no surprise, Amerigas did not.  Nor did they for the next scheduled appointment.  It was only at the threat of rolling the tank into the street did they show up to remove it. 
Poor, poor, poor customer service.  We got the sense that they believed that we/customers would just accept the poor service in light of the cost of changing companies, which is not cheap. They were able to convince us one year with the offer of half price gas.  After that we opted for the old expression -- "Fool me once, shame on you.  Fool me twice, shame on me."  Fool me three times, I'm an idiot. Stating it another way -- once may be an accident, twice questionable but three times is policy.

I called the company, who has since sent me two past due notices that I owe them money.  I called and informed that the first month I sent them $100.00 and this month already sent $150.00 and would remit the remainder next  month. 
The clerk was rude stating, "well we have you on constant refill status and our driver did exactly what he was suppose to do".  She stated that he is not required to even speak to you, he just comes and fills the tanks.   I stated that was not true I have been a will call since 2010.   Clerk states you also do not have credit status with us (I did before).   Clerk then stated "then all we can do is pick up our tanks and take our propane".  No matter what I said she contradicted me finally stating she would allow me to finish paying off my bill and place my account on COD and will call.
What AmeriGas failed to tell anyone is that when they bought out my service provider, Synergy Propane, that they were not going to continue their contracts but also did not plan to inform customers of AmeriGas policies.

They are more expensive from other company

Have been frustrated with company since the beginning.  Never understood why price for propane was different for us and all our neighbors.  Amerigas would give us the better price if we questioned it, but no explanation was ever given as to why we weren't given that price in the first place.  Pricing was like a shell game.  Decided to discontinue our relationship.  Took them 3 months and several phone calls to finally come out and empty our tank and give us reimbursement.  Would not remove tank -- said we had to pay to have someone take it out of the ground and then they would haul it away.  Said we could just leave it in the ground if we wanted, then they billed us for "rental" for the tank!   After a phone call, they said it was a "computer error" and credited that charge.

We just moved to the area and had a tank already in the yard.  Called Amerigas, because that's who the tank was with.  They first gave me a price on how much gas, fees and inspection would cost.  My husband then called the same man and was given a totally different price and had the inspeciton cost waived!  A woman in the office called us back about setting up an inspection time.  Well I work 8-5 in Richmond and my husband 5-2.  We asked them come out after my husband got off of work at 2 in the afternoon.  We were told they couldn't because the guys would have to be back in the office at 4.  Didn't know it would take 2 hours for them to inspect their own tank!  They basically told us we would have to miss work to meet their schedule.  So much for customer service.  When we did get them to agree to be there between 2 and 2:30 the guy came early and then left because my husband wasn't there.  They were rude on the phone and pretty much told us it was our fault the guy left, even though he knew no one would be at home before 2.  While waiting for them to call us back about setting up another appointment they shut off our gas without telling us.  I called Anderson who came out right away  and took care of us.  I would NOT recommend Amerigas. Very rude people and that is if they answer their phone and it doesn't roll over to the 800 number.
