Appliance Repair
Refrigerator side of my SubZero stopped cooling. Called ABA. The technician came out and spent about 45 minutes diagnosing the problem, which was a failed thermostat on the refrigerator side. So far, so good. He indicated the part was in stock and he would be out the next working day to replace the thermostat. Meanwhile, I surfed the net to find a parts supplier for SubZero, told him which part was involved and he indicated the retail cost would be about $67. The technician arrived as scheduled on Monday and installed the part. Again, he was there about 45 minutes (SubZero components are readily accessible.) The bill came to $405. Assuming ABA paid full retail price for the part (which they probably didn't), I was charged about $300 for labor (or $200 per hour--even with a senior's discount of 10%).
