We’re so happy with The Window Man! They are an outstanding team of top-level, experienced professionals! It’s great working with Jake, our dedicated start-to-finish project representative. He has amazingly extensive knowledge in window replacements. He gave us options for high-quality, up-to-date structural materials, while still maintaining the esthetics of our home. He’s honest, intelligent, and totally focused on sound solutions for us to choose from. When we visited their beautiful showroom a few days later, Jake was with us, and we were able to see for ourselves exactly what he had explained. We have a lot of windows to restore and we received a full estimate within a day! A few days later, Ryan came to take precise measurements. He already had most of our details memorized and went to work quietly and efficiently, answering any questions and giving us a realistic timeline for installation. We very highly recommend The Window Man team! I will update once our windows are installed.

Great job from the consultation to installation. No high pressure selling. Their Infinity windwos are the best made and the installation team was a delight.

I contracted with the Window Man to replace our front door and sidelights. Cost was $11,400 of which I paid $6000 upfront, balance after installation. Door installed July 24, 2020. That afternoon I received a bill for the balance, which I paid July 28, and which was a terrible mistake. The same day I paid the balance, and just 4 days after installation, the door developed a terrible groan, so loud and unpleasant the door was unusable. I contacted Window Man via email- no response. A week later I emailed again. This time I received a response, and finally a team examined the door August 31, and yes, you have a problem. I offered to pay for the new hinges at my own expense. My only recourse now is litigation, naming both the Window Man and ProVia as defendants. We will install new windows in our home next spring, but we won't hire the Window Man. I recommend that hire another firm for work to your home.
Response from The Window Man

"Thank you for the review, we appreciate all feedback. We would like to address two specific concerns; the timeline & our response. The door was installed on July 24th as the customer states. After that, unfortunately, there is simply not much accuracy in the review. An invoice was sent 4 days later, via email, and was promptly paid by the customer, which we appreciated. On July 31st, we received an email from the customer that read in part, “Great Work, we will call you again!” This date is important, as it was not 4 days after the installation! On August 16th, we received our first email notifying us the door squeaked. The staff member who fields those emails was out sick August 17, 18 & 19. On August 20th, a second email was received about the door. An email was sent that same day letting the customer know that we will get this scheduled quickly once our ill employee returned. That Monday, we scheduled an August 31st consultation, to which the customer replied via email, “Yes, Monday August 31st between 1-3pm will work, thank you.” We established the problem was simply the hinges and those would need ordered, which they were. For the sake of trying to keep this shorter than longer, due to COVID-19, Provia is not providing ETA’s on products. Communication remained steady between us and the client. Yes, the customer offered to pay for the hinges and overnight shipping, which we would not have asked or accepted and would have made no difference in them arriving sooner. The manufacturer’s policy is that all parts/repairs MUST be done by its retail partners. Once we received the hinges, we contacted the customer via email to schedule the repair for three days later. No response. We also left a voicemail to schedule the repair. No response. The project was professionally handled from beginning to end and we stand by our efforts, especially considering the massive backlog at the factory due to COVID which is beyond our control, unfortunately. We appreciate the reviewer’s business."

Project went quite well. Ham (salesman) came to my house and advised re best choices. Had to wait 6 weeks for windows, as understood. Installers were very good and cleaned up. Only problem was tape used to fix covering over indoor hardwood floors pulled up some old polyurethane coating when removed. Window Man has offered to subsidize flooring refinishing.

So happy we hired The Window Man for this work! They knew exactly what was approved by the city for our historic home even before they showed up. Made the process seamless. Ordering was a breeze and delivery and installation were right on time! We even got a great price for the job (which was no small task!). We're planning to use them again for another large window replacement order.

The DC historic preservation society (HPO) mandated that I must install Marvin Infinity windows (or some even more expensive options). There are apparently only 2 companies in our region that are legally allowed to install this exact type of window. Quite the opportunity to take advantage of consumers…thanks DC and Marvin. I went with the Window Man because the other company didn’t want to install only 4 windows. From the moment I handed over my deposit it started to become a headache. The sales man (Ham) dropped off the planet and getting updates on when they would receive my windows, schedule the installation and if they had taken care of the permitting (Ham claimed he would, have no idea if he followed through). Eventually I got a hold of the sales manager to get on the schedule after the windows arrived. The guys who installed the windows were polite and worked quickly. However, the white trim they put in was caulked with an off-white, so it looks like crap. Seems like a rookie mistake for the "Window Man". The windows themselves aren't anything special either, so it's a total ploy between Marvin/The Window Man/DC to force people to over pay for standard windows. They don’t keep the noise out or look any better than the lower line Marvin Infinity window. Just 40% more expensive. Basically I paid for premium windows, got standard windows installed poorly with poor communication between the sales rep and customer.
Response from The Window Man

"Thank you for the review of the project that was completed 1 year ago. We appreciate all feedback. Our representative, Hamilton, has sold thousands of windows to hundreds of customers over the last 16 years and has a sterling reputation. We would like to address three specific concerns; 1) timeline, 2) caulking and 3) sound abatement. 1) We were first contacted on May 10th, 2019. A contract was signed on May 21st, 2019 and the job was installed on August 19th. We would like to have tighter time-frames, but this is not abnormal. Springtime contracts often result in 2-3 month install periods due to the entire industry being inundated with orders. 2) The caulking was out of our control. NovaBond changed their formula without informing clients. This led to yellowing on the interior of the project. After receiving complaints, NovaBond fixed their formula quickly. The reviewer never informed us of the yellowing. We'll gladly re-caulk, or NovaBond will pay painters to paint the caulk—this is the reviewer’s choice. 3) Regarding the sound concerns, this is something that our company is known for addressing very well. We would have different or additional recommendations had the reviewer ever mentioned sound as a concern. We have no written communications from the entire course of the project discussing sound-abatement as an issue. STC/OITC glass was used in the front three replacement windows, but not in the single rear window. Without adding a secondary “storm” window (which we carry—Mon-Ray—and install, specifically in Historic Districts) this is the best available option. We have no recollection of Mon-Ray windows being discussed or considered. The project was professionally handled from beginning to end and despite some extenuating circumstances (our representative’s mother passed away during this time) The Window Man stands by the quality of the products and installation. We appreciate the reviewer’s business and look forward to turning him into an A-Review!"

At the beginning of the experience with The Window Man, it seemed that it was a wise choice to choose them out of the 3 proposals we had gotten for Window and door replacement. The staff seemed knowledgeable, and answered all questions and worked with us on coming up with a good design. However, after the orders were placed it ultimately became quite an unpleasant experience. A promised 8-10 week job turned into an extended 16 week nightmare. There was little to no communication after they got a very large 50% cash deposit and when they finally did call after 6 weeks it was to say they could not do the job as specified on several windows and couldn’t get the door to swing the way it should. The manufacturer was Marvin (supposedly one of the best) and there seemed to be no one from The Window Man communicating with them either. To make a very long story short, we had to cancel the Door unit because they never could figure it out and then accept the windows smaller than specified, which meant they did some very subpar reframing, drywall and trim work to compensate for the problem they created doing that. Among other installation deficiencies, they got spray foam all over new Hardie siding that was never followed up on or fixed and the caulking they used is now all turning a bright yellow against the white fiberglass frames of the windows. We were left with dirty, streaked windows that they sent someone back out to clean without a ladder tall enough to reach. For nearly $30,000, nothing went as expected and their customer service, once they were paid, was nonexistent. Very disappointed and dissatisfied in The Window Man and the quality and skills of their installation team. Jury still out on the quality of the Infinity fiberglass Windows from Marvin. It will take a couple of seasons to know if they were worth the money or hassle of replacement.
Response from The Window Man

"Thank you for the review. We appreciate all feedback, whether positive or less than glowing. The 13-window project (not 21 windows) was a challenge, with many unique design elements and specialty-requests that weren't possible at the desired budget. Specifically in reference to the door. A triple-panel, swinging door could not be produced by the manufacturer requested, but could have been built by another company at a greater cost. The customer chose to not invest the extra spend, which is both fine and their prerogative. To the contrary of the review's claim, we engaged in extensive conversations with both the manufacturer and client to exhaust all options when trying to get the unique door constructed. The client passed on the door and, of course, that entire expense was removed from the contract. In full candor, extra time between the agreement and installation was experienced due to the order being placed at a time when the factory’s production was being moved from Roanoke, VA to Fargo, ND. However, it did not result in a 4-month turnaround as stated. We were never informed about the caulk yellowing. We only learned about this via the Angie’s List review and will do what we can to rectify the matter. Regarding the siding coming in contact with some overspray of insulating foam, we only learned about that well after the project was completed and we were there for a service issue. We plan on offering an option or two for consideration. In closing, we value our 30-year reputation of excellence, and have satisfied over 10,000 NOVA, D.C. & MD. customers. We also look to take every reasonable step necessary to make right all valid concerns each of our customers bring to our attention (even some that may not be too valid), and we will do so in this case, as well! The $22,000 project (not $30,000 as described) was a challenge, and we believe that we did a professional and quality job despite some issues that were beyond our control. Thank you, again, we look forward to turning you into an A-Review!"

Outstanding quality of work for the install of over 20 windows and doors. Install team is excellent in the quality of their workmanship, attention to detail and professionalism through out the process. Sales team is outstanding, providing product knowledge, customer follow up and of course providing competitive pricing on a wide range of window and door products. Very satisfied with their products and services, will continue to use them and I would certainly recommend them as a quality company to do business with for windows and door products and install services.

The Window Man gave a competitive quote and were referred by neighbors. Ham, the salesman, walked us clearly through everything that was involved and gave a list of addresses in the neighborhood whose windows they had done, giving guidance on what to tell the Historic District and even communicating directly with them in advance of my permit application. The appointment for an estimate was followed by a second visit for exact measuring, during which time they discovered one window with serious rot would have to be fully gutted and reangled, which only added $250 to the bill. I was followed up with promptly and given a time window we could expect to hear from them again in. Windows arrived on time from the manufacturer and they communicated frequently about progress. Made an appointment promptly and they gave clear instructions about what would happen the day of installation. Installers were incredibly professional, walked through everything before starting work and pointed out a question they had about interior trim we'd asked for. They finished within the day despite 100+ degree heat and were very courteous. All in all you may be able to find someone who can do it for a couple hundred less, but it is well worth it to know you're in good hands. Total job was four double-hung Marvin windows, including a full gut of one, and new interior trim: $7600 total, $1600 of which was for labor.

I cannot begin to recommend this window company high enough! So many companies say that they offer great customer service and stand behind their products, but if a problem occurs down the line, it’s like pulling teeth trying to get their assistance. Not with the Windowman! I bought my house 14 months ago, knowing that the windows were original and would need to be replaced. Half of them didn’t close properly, were rotted wood and super drafty. Soon after I moved into the house, I realized that I had water leaking in from the sliding glass door, something that the home inspector missed. I interviewed about 10 different companies and ended up going with the Windowman based on my neighbor’s experience with them and how impressed I was by how much time they took to educate me on the difference between vinyl and fiberglass windows. I have to be honest that the fiberglass windows are more expensive, but they look much better than vinyl and have a lifetime warranty. You get what you pay for. I set a start date for the project in early fall, with the Windowman replacing not only the windows but the rotted sills. Once the project got underway and the siding removed, we realized that the whole back of my house was basically rotted away! The scope of the project was much bigger than just windows, and the Windowman helped me find a contractor who could fix the back of the house so we could install the windows. Long story short, the project took months longer than anticipated and the Windowman was fabulous about working with my schedule and coordinating with the contractor. Due to weather delays and other unforeseen issues, the Windowman made several trips. On the day some of the windows were installed, it started to rain halfway through the installation which could affect the spray foam they used. They came back another day to fix the insulation to make sure my house wasn’t drafty. Unfortunately, stopping the water coming into the house through the sliding door wasn’t an easy fix. After trying different caulking materials ect I still had water seeping in. Both the Windowman installers and the other contractor came out multiple times over the course of 7 months to try and fix the issue. Finally, Tom the owner of the Windowman came to my house and realized that the concrete slab which the sliding glass door sits on is unlevel and slightly slanted downward towards the house instead of away from the house. A level barely showed this and you can’t tell by just looking at the door. At their own expense, the Windowman worked with a metal company to have a custom made “pan” that the entire 8 ft sliding door sits on, removed the door and reinstalled it. And it solved my water issue proven after a week straight of rain! The Windowman promised to solve the issue and they stood by their word and I am very grateful! Because I replaced 14 windows, a huge sliding glass door, an entry and storm door plus rebuilding the back of my house, I couldn’t afford to do the front door (which is framed by 15 small windows – thus expensive!) this year but plan to do so next year. And I won’t hesitate to use the Windowman once again! All my neighbors have said my windows look fabulous and I have recommended the Windowman to everyone. It’s a rarity these days to find such excellent customer service and they truly care about their customers.

"On July 13 our rep, Ham Smith, met with [Member Name Removed] and discussed replacement windows in the above historic address. Ham gave Ms. [Member Name Removed] a ball park price to replace the existing vinyl windows with Infinity fiberglass windows that we have had success getting approved in Capital Hill. Ms. [Member Name Removed] was not interested in spending that much money. Replacing vinyl windows with vinyl windows will not meet the historic specifications for this address and we will not attempt that. So there was no written quote given. I'm sorry if the information was not conveyed to you. Please let us know if you would like a quote for the fiberglass windows. Best regards, Tom Patterson"

Stuart was professional, and did the work in a timely manner. I would definitely use them again. The only issue that I had was that they did not accept the Angie's list coupon that reduced the cost from about $1000 to $750.
