He is primary a pediatric dermatology. I don't have to wait long. He a kind of a one man show and I see the same person and he knows. When I go in I make appointments for the next time because its hard to get an appointment. But it's not his fault.
Description of Work: Dr. Robert A Silverman is my dermatologist. I go to him for skin checks and he's removed a little warts. Both my wife and I use him.

Dr. Robert A. Silverman has a great sense of humor, he was on time, he's really nice, he knew what he was doing, and the office takes our insurance. I really like Dr. Silverman. I'm going to go back and I already have another appointment.

They are very accommodating and it went very well. I didn't have to wait long. The physician was very accountable and seemingly knowledgeable although she didn't know what was wrong with me, but that is not surprising she had to do tests. The facility itself was good. The patient service orientation was also good. I have another appointment in about two weeks. NOTE: WRONG SERVICE CATEGORY SO IS GRADING.
Description of Work: I used Best Practices for dermatology about two weeks ago.

Description of Work: Horrible!!! This office will NOT see new patients until FEBRUARY!!!! When people are talking about needing a specialist like a Dermatologist - it's usually because there is something wrong now!!! How on earth can these drs make the statement, "I can see you in FEBRUARY!!!!" My daughter has a problem NOW!!!! I would hope that her skin problem is cleared long before FEBRUARY!!! this system needs to change!

In 2010, my son was diagnosed with alopecia areata, just before his 5th birthday. His pediatrician recommended that we see a dermatologist and we went to two who had been recommended by others. Both of the general dermatologists recommended that we see Dr. Silverman, who specializes in pediatric skin care. At first, it was hard to get an appointment. We were told the first availability was several months away. Then, one of the other dermatologists called Dr. Silverman himself and explained that my son's alopecia was spreading and that he needed an appointment as soon as possible. Dr. Silverman's office called my husband back and agreed to see us within a month--still a long time to wait, but worth it. Once we started seeing Dr. Silverman, it was easy to get follow up appointments. His staff is efficient and understanding. Dr. Silverman talked us through a number of different courses of action. I felt very comforted that he was so knowledgeable and experienced with alopecia. He was frank and matter of fact, but compassionate and good humoured. I also liked that he outlined a course of action that included more aggressive options if the first choice--topical solutions--wasn't effective. Fortunately, the solutions worked--but alopecia responds slowly and at each visit, we continued to discuss what we might try next. I never felt hopeless. During the time my son was being treated, I asked Dr. Silverman about using botanical oils, which I had researched online. I expected him to tell me I was wasting my time and money--or something to that effect--even though there seems to be some documentation of effectiveness. He told me that oils had not been medically proven to be effective; but that since it wouldn't interfere with anything he was doing, he said I should go ahead and try it. He said he didn't care what worked, as long as something did and even if the oils weren't medically helpful, they would soothe my son's scalp, which was dry from the other solutions. I'm not sure if he actually believed it, but he treated every suggestion I had--crazy or not--with utmost respect. Most importantly, my son was not afraid of going to Dr. Silverman, who had children's books and puzzles in each exam room, and who always spoke to him directly (as opposed to some doctors who talk to the parents as if the young patient wasn't even there.) For a kindergarten project, my son had to bring in pictures of himself with various professionals and he chose to bring one of him and Dr. Silverman. When treating a child with a chronic condition that will require many visits, a good rapport between doctor and patient is so important and Dr. Silverman nailed it. If the alopecia returns--and unfortunately, with this condition, that's a strong possibility--we will definitely return to Dr. Silverman.
Description of Work: Dr. Silverman treated my son for Alopecia Areata between 2010 and 2012. He presecribed Clobetosol topical solution and recommended that we alternate the prescription with Minoxodil (Rogaine) which can be purchased over the counter. While we were using the topical treatments, Dr. Silverman outlined his strategy for more aggressive treatment options; but fortunately, the topical treatments worked and we never had to explore the other methods.

I liked the fact that I could go in and he found something that we did need to remove and he was able to do it right there at that time. I didn't have to make a second visit. Something I don't like about him is that if I called today for an appointment I could probably get one in April.
Description of Work: I used Dr. Robert Silverman for checking out some moles that looked to be cancerous and I had a mole removed.

I've been fairly happy with my experiences. We have had to wait awhile in the waiting and appointment rooms, but not outrageous amounts of time. When we see Dr. Silverman, he listens to our concerns and doesn't make me feel rushed, and that is definitely worth waiting in my opinion! Doctors in our managed care practice are horrible about giving the impression they need you out the door as quickly as possible. I feel comfortable with Dr. Silverman's "bedside mannerand rdquo;, and when we leave I feel satisfied my concerns and questions were addressed. Dr. Silverman's treatments have been effective, with the exception of the acne on my son's back, but that may be due to my son not applying his medication as frequently as needed. The acne on his face has cleared up fairly well. The only negative is it can take quite a while to get into see Dr. S., at least initially. I haven't needed a quick follow-up appointment, so I don't know about that. The follow-ups we did need, we were able to schedule in the time frame Dr. S. requested without the six month wait initially required.
Description of Work: I've taken both my kids to him, one for acne, the other for what turned out to be Molluscum contagiosum.

Upon arriving for my initial appointment, I filled out the usual paperwork. I was seen by the doctor within a few minutes of my appoinment time. During my initial appointment, the doctor asked about any problems I had experienced and performed an examination. During the brief examination, he noted a small spot on my back that had been itching off and on for several months. He told me to come back in six months if the spot was still there. On the return visit six months later, he performed a biopsy on the spot that showed that the spot was a basal cell carcinoma, a less dangerous form of skin cancer. At a subsequent appointment, he removed the skin cancer in his office. Five stitches were required to seal the wound. There were no problems with the operation or with the healing process, which was mostly complete within a few weeks. This was my first experience with a skin cancer. I am pleased with my experience with this doctor, who is friendly and explains things well. I intend to continue to see him as my dermatologist.
Description of Work: New patients may have a long wait for an appointment. When I called in June or July 2010 for an appointment for a routine examination as a new patient, I was told that they were taking new patient appointments starting in the month of October. It turned out that October was an ideal time for me to see a dermatologist because of a predictable skin problem that I get following scuba diving trips, so I took an appointment for October. I downgraded the Availabiltiy score to "Fair" because of this fact alone, eventhough it did not affect me. Also, the delay time new patients appointments may vary with the doctors workload. I wanted to try this particular dermatologist because he had a very favorable rating in Washington Consumer's Checkbook and I had not been pleased with my experience with a different dermatologist. One thing to note is that this doctor does not apply for payment to the secondary insurance company if Medicare is the primary payer. This may not be unusual, but all other doctors that I use do apply to the Medicare supplement insurance company. I downgraded the Billing and Administration score to "Fair" based on this fact alone.

He is very professional. He is very difficult to get in to see, but I think that's true of all dermatologists. They don't see us as quickly as we would like to be seen, but if we are a patient it's fine. If we are not a patient it is difficult to see him on short notice. When I call to schedule an appointment he would take care of me very nicely. He has got a very friendly staff of people and nurses. The billing people are very, very nice. If a brand new customer is going in there I don't know if they would get in to see the dermatologist any quicker. I am very happy with Dr. Silverman.

He's terrific. I think he's responsive, responsible and he's very fair on his pricing. He doesn't bring you back several times just to bill you again. He's very respectful and he's reasonable. His only problem is that he's so good, you need to make appointments a long time in advance.
