work was done very quickly and professionally; there have been no problems resulting from the work performed; cost charged for work performed seemed high (even with use of $25 Angie's List coupon); ended up finding much better plumber arrangement (equivalent workmanship with much better charging rates) for subsequent plumbing work by source other than Angie's List

They were very good and their prices is reasonable. I knew it was clear what they were doing and in fact they went over and above like to fix something else that wasn't included. They were prompt, gave a fair price and told us the price upfront. They finished the job right then and did some extra work for us without any extra pay.

This is an follow-on review from August 27th. Sal- the original plumber came out on the 8/27 to find the water issue that was coming through our ceiling. He spent only a few minutes in our house, and misdiagnosed the problem. Needless to say- we were not happy.
The water issue continued and we called back to the Long Corp and asked for a different plumber to come out to complete the repair. They had a plumber at our house in less than 2 hours.
Sherry showed up- she was professional, very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. She took the time to show us what the issue was, how it happened and what was needed to be done to correct the problem.
She repaired the faucet in the shower and asked if we had any other issues. I mentioned that the kitchen sink had a leak and she took a look, found he problem and told us that our faucet (Kohler) should still be under warranty- she called the Kohler company right then and was able to get a faucet sent to us free of charge. This is the service I remember 2 years ago when we called for a busted water pipe. Though I was very unhappy with the original plumber (Sal), it was great to be able to contact the company and have them stand behind their work and send out, what I am sure has to be one of their best plumbers. I will continue to use the Long Corp and request Sherry for any future work.

The plumber arrived at the beginning of the service window, assessed the project, and told me that the limited access and duct-work would probably force him to cut into the drywall in the basement beneath the kitchen. (This would also cost extra, as the over-the-phone estimate didn't take into account our complicated layout) He worked for several hours and was able to avoid cutting into the drywall, which was great. He connected the water to the fridge, talked me through what he'd done, cleaned up thoroughly, and was gone. An excellent experience, even if it did cost me a little more than I had expected.

First time using Long's Corp. Had some plumbing issues. Sal (tech) came out on time, very professional front office as well as Tech, explained everything that was wrong, and fixed the issues. I would use their services again.

We had a leak in our shower that came through our breakfast room ceiling. We called and made a next date appointment.
"Sal" showed up at 5:05 and took a look at the ceiling and then went upstairs to look at the shower. He came back down and asked for a ladder (surprised he didn't have one). He said he would have to cut a hole in our celling, as he could not tell where the leak was coming from.
He cut a good size hole in the ceiling and decided after about 3 minutes that there was no leak-our shower just needed to be caulked- and he didn't do the caulking- told us that we would have to do that ourselves and was out of the house in less than 20 minutes. He told us we had to pay a $150 charge instead of the $89 service charge, because he "did research".(And he left all of the wet drywall on top of our china cabinet)
So for $150 we got a hole cut in our ceiling, and a trip to Walmart to buy our own caulking...and I'm not even sure that caulking is what the problem is.
We used this company about 2 years ago and they were great- but today was terrible- we will look elsewhere for our plumbing needs.

My weekend project to snake a clogged kitchen pipe turned into a mess. After noticing that the drain plumbing was improperly all glued together and accidentially cracking one of the pipes, I decided to stop work and call a pro. I found Long's on Angie's list - called them from work on Monday morning and they immediately sent Sherry to the house. Sherry quickly determined what needed to be done and provided a quote to my wife. We accepted, and she went right to work. We were pleased by the excellent service, frequent updates on status, and the high quality finished product. The plumbing under the sink even looks more organized now. The clog is gone. We're very pleased! I see some rate Long's lower on pricing - don't know how much I may have overspent, but I always prefer to spend more for excellent service and high quality work. I think we got out money's worth, plus some.
Also, learned from this experience - don't use Draino - ever. And, don't wait until Sunday afternoon to start a DIY plumbing job.

We had am emergency when our hot water valve in one of our tubs failed to close. We called Long's Corporation on a Friday afternoon and they told us they had standard rates and would be at our home on Saturday between 1200-1700.
Sherry Long showed up at our home before 1700 and the first thing she did, after introducing herself, was to place shoe protectors over her shoes to protect our carpet and flooring. She was very professional and courteous. Sherry took a look at our issue and provided us a standard total cost based on our faucet type. In fact, she told us that we would receive a $25 discount for being an Angie's List member.
Sherry replaced the diverter in each of the valves, and she showed us the condition of the old diverters.
After the job, Sherry asked if we had any questions. We took the opportunity to ask another plumbing question for some advice. She was very helpful and gave us some good advice that we appreciated. She also went over maintenance plans if we were interested. No pressure from her, simply information.
It was a very good experience, and we would certainly use Long's Corporation once again. Thank you, Sherry, for your friendly attitude and courteous service! The cost was also very reasonable.

Very smoothly. The plumber was prompt, courteous, professional, and explained what he thought was necessary and what was probably unnecessary. The only downside was the price seemed a little high, but they have a set price book and so it was not as if they were setting prices on the fly. They are just a little more expensive. But the overall experience was positive (or as positive as things can be when there are plumbing problems).

I have a 2 shower head shower and 1 of the faucets began to leak slowly and then more frequently. This plumbing co. was the second co. to come out and evaluate and tried to stop the water leak. The main water to the house needed to be turned off whenever we were not using the shower because of the leak. The plumber suggested that we remove the bad shower fixtures and they would put on a new one which would be silver. The problem with that is our home has brass faucets and fixtures so it would not match. In that case both shower fixtures would need to be replaced for double the price so they would match, though not with the sinks or tub or shower door casing. This was going to be a very expensive fix in the long run. Too just fix the existing leak, it was going to cost 839.00 so x's 2 for the other side. They said that brass would be hard to find and if they found the same co. and in brass it would cost at least another $100.
The second option was to completely take about the broken shower, fix the hole in the wall and then repair the hole in the tile where the faucet was and make the shower a 1 person instead of two. Not happening.
I paid the service fee of 89.99, the plumber was there for at least an hour and did try to fix the leak before realizing more needed to be done.
We have since found a 3rd plumber who temperarily stopped the leak and is looking for the brass fixture to fix the problem and we can still use the water for the rest of the house in the meantime and was not asked for any money upfront. Third time seems to be the charm.

We clogged the kitchen drain really bad and after trying to snake it, using Draino and praying we called a plumber. They came out the same day (Saturday). Sherry did a fantastic job! She was on time and very professional. She ended up snaking the drain twice with about 24 foot of snake. We did a real good job clogging the drain! Sherry cleaned up after herself and the drain works great.

As a result of very positive past experiences with Long's Corporation through Dominion Resources HVAC, Long's was the first on the list to call for plumbing repairs. Mike was extremely professional, knowledgeable, and responsive tour concerns. We were extremely impressed by members of this company, especially by the empathetic family owned business caring for and meeting their customers needs. There was NO evidence of a hidden agenda of commission-driven service calls. Mike's preventative maintenance advice appears to diminish unneeded costly repairs. We are extremely impressed with the clientele of this company and their consumer oriented business ethics! We will continue to utilize the services of Long's Corporation!!

Very professional.
Price of repairs seemed a little high, but I stripped the hex screw
trying to repair myself and Sherry found a way to preserve the faucet handle
without having to replace the entire faucet thus saving me several hundred
dollars.

We needed short notice work done to remedy problems discovered in a home inspection. Sal, from Long's Corp, arrived approx. two hours after calling Long's. He replaced a sump pump, sewer line access cover, and a water value. A shower diverter value was not operating properly, but since it had a special finish, it needed ordering. Sal put in the order and scheduled a time the next day to return and install it. This he did. The price was good, and the work was done quickly, with no mess to clean up.

I'm an out of town property manager for a rental in Manassas. Found Long's on Angie's list. Called them. They contacted the tenant for an appointment. Tenant was very pleased with their professionalism. Sherry is very knowledgeable & even noted other issues with the property that the tenant had not reported, which will help prevent major damages in the long run. (Thank You!) Longs did a very professional job. The heat was not working consistently and the technician quickly identified the problem, and ordered the part. When the part came in Longs called and scheduled an appointment to install the part. The furnace has been working fine ever since.

The company was called to repair a broken water line. They told me that
the valve needed replaced, as well. A two foot section of 3/4" pipe, a
3/4" ball valve, a 3/4" ell, a 3/4" female adapter, paste, solder and
gas were required to do the job. I priced the components at an online
supplier and the components came to a total of 31.09 + tax for all but
the paste solder and gas. Paste and solder can be acquired for less than
$10.00, so the total materials comes in at under $50.00. The job took a
total of 2hrs.. The bill came to $651.23 Minus $25.00(Angie's List
discount) which comes to $626.43. $626.43 - $50.00(component price)
comes to $595.34 for labor and tax. THIS IS PREDATORY BUSINESS! They
quote prices based on their flat rate quote book and rely on the fact
that most people don't know how to repair it themselves or what it
should cost. I thought they would treat me like family, just like the
add says! My son alerted me to the highway robbery prices which leads me
to writing this, despite the fact that I liked the plumber. Is $245/hr.

"I would like to repond to (member name removed) review. I had talked to her son the Friday before and tried to answer his questions regarding his mother's work performed by Long's Corporation back in January. (member name removed) was at home when the technician arrived and looked at her plumbing problem. Sherry quoted her the prices for both jobs out of our flat rate book. (member name removed) agreed and paid Sherry in advance of job completion because she had an appointment to go to. (member name removed) had every right to send Long's Corporation away with the $89.50 dispatch fee quoted at time of job placement if she felt the pricing was not agreeable. The technician was at her house for 2.5 hours making the repairs, not 2 as stated in review. One thing that everyone forgets is that you can get prices on line for anything, you just have to pay shipping and handling and wait for it to arrive. Long's Corporation brings the material to you in a $35,000.00 van with a skilled technician from a company that has workmans comp, health insurance, auto insurance and liability insurance in case of an accident on your premises, and is licensed with the State of Virginia ( check your handyman's credentials next time), if you have a problem with work performed we have been in business since 1936 and are here to stand behind the job. I made no referenced to "mom and pop" outfits with (member name removed)'s son, I only stated that we work out of an office, with staff and have overhead. I believe that I would consider myself a "mom and pop" outfit since my grandfather started the business and then my father and uncle were 2nd generation and now myself and sister own Long's Corporation as the 3rd generation. oh yea we have 4th generationers working out in the field and office, with 5th generation coming up behind them. Finally , no request for a further discount or refund was made during conversation with (member name removed)'s son, he only stated that Long's Corporation took advantage of his mother."

Turned out that the painters who did some recent work loosened the thermostat connection. I was so impressed with their responsiveness and professionalism that I signed up for their service agreement. The technician even showed me what type of filter to buy on line to save myself some money.
