We took advantage of this company's Angie's List coupon for $300 worth of service for $200. As an aside, I accidentally purchased more than one of these coupons by accident! I called Angie's List and they were very helpful in canceling one of my online purchases. Thanks to Long's AND Angie's List for their professionalism and kindness!!!!!
Plumber called within 30 minutes of arrival time. Diagnosed regulator problem and proceeded to replace unit which all told took about 30 minutes or so. Then he replaced toilet mechanism , went over repaired items and we paid then & there. Entire repair process took approximately one hour including initial and final walk through.
Very efficient and speedy process and we certainly would use Long for any future repair needs.
We have used Longs for this service as well as as needed plumbing problems for several years and have generally been happy with the work done.
The split CAC system had no freon and Steve showed me the corroded insidel, which had allowed the freon to leak out. He told me I could replace the coil for $1915, restore the freon, and there'd be a very limited warranty. But if I needed freon in the distant future, he told me that it would be completely phased out by 2020. He said I could also consider replacing the entire system, since there's no telling when another big part could fail. He didn't give me estimates because he wanted to research the particular part number, etc (he'd taken the serial number of the indoor coil)., but that he'd get back to me the next day with some more info.
Later that afternoon, I received an email (my preferred choice of contact) with cost estimates for doing either way. At the time the part was available.
Much later, after I'd decided to repair the system since I'd already replaced the compressor, I called to leave a message for him to go ahead. By then the part was no longer available since the system was so old and the SEER standard now is a minimum of 14. When he called to tell me that, he asked to come out and take some measurements to determine what other indoor coil might be used and to see how much adaptation of the casing and duct work would be needed. Again, he didn't push a new system.
I haven't yet decided what to do. If I get an entire new system I'll comparison shop. However if the Longs' Corporation quote is competitive (not only if it's the most economical), I'd go with Longs for the personal service and professionalism. It's a small business which has served the Northern Virginia area for many years and I appreciate that. It also has a post-installation service plan for purchase that makes a lot of sense.
