These guys are geniuses. I had a binding issue with an AWD vehicle and they came up with a low cost solution of a special "cocktail" fluid as an alternative to a very expensive part replacement. They are the best...period.

I left the car in the morning and they were able to test drive, look at the problem and provide an estimate by that afternoon. They included a discount because I was an Angie's List member. Once we decided to have the work done, they started the work right away with estimate of three days to complete. They completed the work early and let us know we could pick it up. Part of our justification to do the transmission work was the three year warranty included. I recommend Hi-Tech Transmissions and would go there again if needed.

I was very unhappy with this experience. I took my car in to have the transmission fluid flushed and replaced. I later came to find out that they did not do any of the work they were supposed to do. I effectively paid them for nothing. There was also an additional $30 charge for the oil that they had already charged for, so I had them remove it from my bill.

They checked it and they called me back the same day and gave me an estimate. They told me what was wrong with my car and told me they could fix it. There were a lot of issues with it and other mechanics had not been able to help me. The engine supports were cracked and he recommended to get them all changed to make sure the others would not crack. They explained in detailed what needed to be done. They also do engine work. They fixed what others couldn't. They were easy to deal with. They know what they are doing and I'm happy with the results. The price was very fair and the job was done when they said it would be. The guy at the front desk was very professional. I have recommend them to my son-in-law.

I had taken the car to my regular mechanic, the dealership and then found Hi-Tech Transmissions on Angie’s List. From the first call, they were professional and courteous. They beat all the other estimates by literally thousands. The dealership wanted over $6000. They gave me a date and price upfront and they were spot on. They provided great communication as they kept me informed along the way. If you need transmission work done – this is the place!

My daughter lives in North Carolina and takes both of her cars to Hi-Tech. She's been ripped off by other places and feels the drive to VA to Hi-Tech is worth it; she gets great service, they take time to explain to her what's going on in terms she can understand and doesn't get ripped off.
She does alot of driving back and forth from NC to VA, DC and MD. On her way to MD, the engine blew in the Grand Prix and Hi-Tech replaced the engine (3 year/36K mi warranty) and there have been no problems.
Previously the transmission in her Acura went out and Hi-Tech took care of it. She had problems after the warranty was up, took it back to Hi-Tech and they provided great service and also gave her an additional one-year warranty, free of charge.

Hi-Tech Transmission had serviced my 1997 Chevy Pickup truck in the past with a re-built transmission. It had recently stopped shifting into the 3rd gear so I brought it back to them for servicing. The warranty offered by them was just out of date but since it had low mile since the last servicing they honored the warranty and provided a re-built transmission for free and offered to add an additional transmission radiator to help prevent future breakdowns. For around $300 I accepted and its now running great and much cooler.

It is hard for me to judge the price because I knew that it would be expensive. I don't know what to compare it to. It wasn't cheap but it was a good job. I chose to do it because I was mainly looking for somebody who would do a good job. I have nothing but good things to say about them. I would absolutely use them in the future, if required. They were very professional. They were very nice, very good and worked towards the goal.

My normal shop sent me to Hi-Tech for what they felt was a signifcant transmission or transfer case issues. The tech there found out it was an issue with the mounts and would cost far less (by $1000 or more) than I had been thinking. I would recommend them highly.

I have a 96 ford explored - only worth $2500. I needed a transmission part for the 4X4 engagement of the front wheels. I made it clear to the estimator that this is a 16 year old vehicle and do not put "premium" parts into it - it is only use on weekends for trips to Home Depot. I got the estimate and it was $600. The part was $400. I had already priced the part in the auto parts store right beside them and it was $130!!!. I complained and they agreed to put in the part I purchased. I completly get building relationship with a mechanic to get a fair price - but when they attempt to gouge you right out the door it is bad. They probably do good work but I don't trust them any more.

.Apparently the technician had realised that there was excess spark on the transmission to fix the fifth gear. Everybody else wanted to do a complete transmission rebuild. The integrity of the company was outstanding. When all the other companies wanted to do the complete transmission rebuild only this company was ready to do a partial. Even the Mitsubishi dealer would do nothing less than replace the whole transmission. So we are looking at a $4000 job. To find somebody who would do this without doing the whole job is refreshing. The easy way to do this job is to simply replace the whole transmission with a manufactured transmission. It minimizes the skill that these people need to have and there is no risk in it. The rebuild folks stand by and all they need to do is to have the labor to put it in. It is a quick exchange in a lot of cases I will use this company in the future.

I took my 1990 Jeep Wrangler to Hi Tech because of the good reviews it got in Angie’s list. My clutch pedal was going all the way to the floor and I couldn’t get it into gear. Clearly clutch issue, but since it’s a 20+ year old vehicle I thought there may be transmission problems too. I wanted it to be in good hands, and I wasn’t disappointed.
Hi Tech offered to have my Jeep towed to them but my insurance covered towing so I handled it. Mike called me back that afternoon and gave me an estimate of $1,300 to replace the clutch master cylinder, slave cylinder, and clutch assembly. I was expecting something along the lines of “you need a new transmission” but he said that seemed to be in good shape (for a 21 yr old Jeep). It was a Friday and they promised it back on Tuesday afternoon.
Tuesday afternoon rolls around and I had not heard from them so I called and Mike says the major work is complete but they still have to resurface the flywheel because it’s glazed and will slip when letting off the clutch … gonna be Wednesday afternoon before they’re done. And they won’t charge me the $70 to resurface the flywheel. Okay.
Wednesday I called Hi Tech first before driving an hour in traffic. Good thing because Mike tells me they are having trouble bleeding the clutch system of air … gonna be ready Thursday! So I had to leave work early on Thursday too. Hi Tech picks me up at the nearby light rail station in my own Jeep, and I swap with the driver to drive it back to the shop. As I pull forward I hear a metallic clanging noise under the vehicle. It clangs every time I accelerate while letting off the clutch. Back at the shop, Mike immediately gets to work trying to diagnose the noise, and puts it on the lift to make sure everything is tight. After 20 minutes, still no luck. Finally, he says “I know what this is”; it’s the 20 yr old starter motor clanging against the flywheel. It’s now past quitting time for his mechanics, but Mike gets on his cell phone and has a new starter motor delivered in 10 minutes, installs it in another 10 minutes. Noise is gone. And he didn’t charge me for the starter motor or labor even though I offered to pay him what he paid for the new motor. Drives great, no noises.
So I got the vehicle back 2 days after initially promised and $200 more than estimated, but for good reasons. They ensured the system was bled properly (no air bubbles), resurfaced the flywheel at no charge, and installed a new starter motor for free even though it wasn’t their fault. Plus at my request they replaced the shifter bushings which raised the cost about $100 higher than the estimate. They were ambitious in their time estimate and pretty close in their cost estimate. I felt like they were being honest the whole time though, and they didn’t use cheap parts to lower cost. They also did what it took to fix the noise that evening so I could drive it home rather than push it to the next day. I’d hire this business again!

The clutch on my car had suddenly stopped workingand ndash; the clutch pedal would not depressand ndash; so I had it towed to Hi-Tech. It had been making noises for a few months so I had plenty of time to look around for a good transmission shop and this one came highly rated. It's easy to see why. It's not a flashy location, in a nondescript section of Lee Highway that you wouldn't look at twice unless you had to, but the staff greeted me immediately and handled getting my car off the tow truck quickly and efficiently. Drop off was a breeze. It took them more than 24 hours to get back to me with their initial diagnosis, a bit long perhaps but a good shop should be busy. I was given a 'best case' and a 'worse case' estimate, both well within what I thought the work would cost. Because of the nature of transmission work, I understood their inability to provide an exact estimate. The work was done on time and at the low estimate cost, and I was given a detailed description of the problems they had found and how they repaired it. I was treated courteously at all times, never had to wait for attention, and am very happy with the entire experience. This place just exudes confidence.

We used Hi-Tech before, many years ago, and found them reliable and decided to have them replace the front axles as well as the clutch. They completed the work quickly (within one day) and the car now runs very well. Believe it was worth the cost to keep the car running.

When I went to pick it up a 2nd time the car was in the lot with the windows down and the radio blaring but the car was not ignited.. it wasn't running! I was surprised since my problem was the battery. I went in to get the key and leave and they presented me with a tow bill! I was surprised again. It was completely unexpected. It didn't feel quite right but I paid it and it still makes me mad that I had to.

I had an extremely good experience with them. It was a car that I was giving to somebody who doesn’t have any money and who needed a safe car. I explained that to them and they did a very exhaustive diagnostic of the car. They did not tell me that I had to replace the transmission when I didn’t have to and found some other things which they repaired for me.

They were very polite and knowledgeable. I just did not go with them because their warranties were not as good as the dealer, but their prices were comparable. I appreciated that they took the time to speak with me several times by phone, and I would certainly consider using them in the future.

Correct diagnosis, first rate, courteous and prompt service. Another service provider (also on Angie's list) had charged $55 for an estimate even though their website advertised free estimates. They then misdiagnosed the problem, saying the entire transmission had to be replaced. Getting an estimate from Hi-Tech was the best thing I could have done, because they knew exactly what to check, provided an honest estimate, and gave prompt service.

We were happy that they extended their warranty for the first repair and fixed us at no charge with no questions asked. When we had another failure while driving cross country, now 30 months and 40K miles past the original 24/24 warranty, I was merely calling for advise when they said they would take care of us. They located an affiliated shop in Des Moines, contacted them, talked them in to fitting us in on a rush basis, and took care of the bill. We lost only a day at the beginning of our vacation when we could easily have killed the whole vacation.
